HYMN OF PRAISE* Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Robert Robinson, c. 1758

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing; Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it: Mount of God’s unchanging love! Here I raise my Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I’m come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood. O, to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let that grace now, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; Prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart, O take and seal it; Seal it for Thy courts above. *Those who are able are invited to stand.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Rhosetta R. Rhodes ’99, M.Ed. ’12, Vice President of Student Life & Dean of Students SILENT CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Gregor Thuswaldner, Ph.D., Provost & Executive Vice President As Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians, Christ “died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them... If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” Friends, in Christ we are forgiven. With God’s grace, may we live lives worthy of Christ’s infinite gift to us. People: Amen.

HYMN* Led by Leonard A. Oakland, Ph.D., Professor, English Amazing Grace Amazing grace, how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.

John Newton, 1779

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed! Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come. ’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun. *Those who are able are invited to stand.

People: These things we ask in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray, saying, “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”

RENEWAL OF THE COVENANT The Rev. Forrest H. Buckner, Ph.D., Storm Family Dean of Spiritual Life & Campus Pastor Minister: And now, dear friends, let us with all our hearts renew our part in the covenant that God has made with God’s people, and take the yoke of Christ upon us. This taking of the yoke of Christ means that we are heartily content that God should appoint us to our place and to our work, and that God alone should be our reward. Christ has many services to be done. Some are easy; others are difficult. Some bring honor; others bring reproach. Some are suitable to our natural inclinations and temporal interests; others are contrary to both. In some we may please Christ and please ourselves; in others we cannot please Christ except by denying ourselves. Yet the power to do all these things is assuredly given us in Christ, who strengthens us. Therefore, let us make the covenant of God our own. Let us dedicate our hearts to the Lord and resolve in God’s strength never to go back. Being thus prepared, let us now, in sincere dependence upon God’s grace and trusting in God’s promises, yield ourselves anew to our Lord. Members of the senior class stand.

Seniors (led by the senior class coordinators of 2020 and 2021): I am no longer my own, but yours. Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will. Put me to doing; put me to suffering. Let me be employed for you or laid aside for you; exalted for you or brought low for you. Let me be full; let me be empty. Let me have all things; let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are mine, and I am yours. So be it. And the covenant that I have made on Earth, let it be ratified in Heaven. Amen. Those who are able are invited to stand.

People: O Lord God, loving Redeemer, who has called us through Christ to be partakers in this gracious covenant, we take upon ourselves with joy the yoke of obedience, and engage ourselves, out of our love for you, to seek and do your perfect will. We are no longer our own, but yours.

THE LORD’S SUPPER The Rev. Forrest H. Buckner, Ph.D., Storm Family Dean of Spiritual Life & Campus Pastor The Rev. Lauren E. Taylor, M.Div., Campus Pastor The congregation will be instructed how to partake of the Supper with the individual communion packets by the pastors.

SONG OF THANKSGIVING* Be Thou My Vision

Eleanor Hull, 1912

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art: Thou my best thought, by day or by night; Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true child; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise; Thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure Thou art. High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

SENDING PRAYER* The Rev. Stephaine Y. Nobles-Beans ’03, ’17, Associate Chaplain for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Ministry

BENEDICTION* The Rev. Lauren E. Taylor, M.Div., Campus Pastor *Those who are able are invited to stand.
