Delta Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi News Release FOR MORE INFORMATION: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE William Harris September 5, 2014 Alumni Relations Secretary 269-‐532-‐9894 harriw10@ferris.edu Ferris Band To March In Art Van Santa Parade The Ferris State University band program has been invited to march in the annual Art Van Santa Parade in downtown Grand Rapids on Nov. 22. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be broadcast live on WOOD TV8. The Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity will take charge of all preparation for this event, including rehearsals and travel to the event. The fraternity hopes to draw participants from multiple Ferris ensembles including the Ferris State Athletic Pep Band, the West Central Concert Band, the FSU Symphonic Band, and the FSU Jazz Band to march in the parade. This marks the first time since1994 that a Ferris ensemble will march in a parade outside of Big Rapids. However, Kappa Kappa Psi is no stranger when it comes to putting on a parade. For the last three years the organization has donned the old marching band uniforms and marched in the annual Fall Festival Parade in downtown Big Rapids. This year the organization hopes to use the parade as a sort of ‘practice run’ for the bigger and longer Art Van Santa Parade. “Marching in the Fall Fest parade allows us to give back to the community that supports us as college students, and bring awareness to a void in the FSU community,” said Eric Watson, former president of Kappa Kappa Psi. Despite the positive responses the unofficial marching band has received from the community, Ferris still has no marching band to call its own. In fact, Ferris State University is one of a handful of schools in the GIAC conference without a marching band. “Funding just isn’t available [for a marching band], however, I think if funding was available then it would come back,” explained Dale Skornia, Assistant Music Conductor and Faculty Director of the Athletic Pep Band. -‐more-‐

Until then the organization is taking advantage of every opportunity to march in events such as the Fall Festival Parade and the Art Van Santa Parade. Kappa Kappa Psi is a national honorary band fraternity that operates to better band programs across the nation. The Delta Omega chapter was chartered on Sep. 25, 2011 at Ferris State University. -‐30-‐
