02 Danfo Market: Lagos Oshodi Market Reform Urban Landscape Design

Landscape Design Studio 2017

Established during 1800s, Oshodi market is one of the largest and most historical trading area in LAGOS. Citizens are usually take a private own minibus which called DANFO to this market and purchasing their daily supply. However, the freedom of trading also mixed with illegal action like drugs trafficking and prostitution. The blemish of Oshodi eventually cased to the demolition order by local government and a new bus station project. Even though the public option strongly oppose the decision, the Oshodi market was raze to the ground during 2015. This project is attempting to take the unique trading behavior as the response to the demolition of Oshodi market. In order to enlarge the social justice, the project intense to preserve the sprite of the Oshodi which is the freedom of trading and combine with the iconic Danfo surrounding the previous site. To establish a civic space where a market and a public square could function at same time. By creating a doubt-deck market, pedestrian and DANFO merchant could coexistence, and enough space for trading, assembly and relaxing. Taking the trade as the carrier, the power of landscape could reform the Oshodi in to a realization of the Lagos.

Large Market and DANFO is the icon of LAGOS, Local governemnt consider them as the breeding ground of unhealthy and crime. However, this life style seems well accpet for local community. We test the possibility of improving the situation by landscape approach.

The Oshodi market is locate in a suburb of Lagos city, Southwesten Nigeria. This area is the largest market place in Lagos city and one of the most important transportation hub. With several sub-market locate arround. Citizens take the DANFO, which is a private owned bus, to Oshodi to trade their daily life supply.

04 A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD Urban Landscape Design

Landscape Winter Design Studio 2018

Our proposal for the new Melbourne University Student Precinct brings life back into the space. Where once there were thermally uncomfortable spaces that people did not want to occupy for periods of time, there is now light, wind and shading being brought into all spaces across the site. Where there were hard and harsh spaces there is now vegetation and water, aiding in the theory of biophelia, important in a space where people are prone to stress. And where once there was a series of disjointed spaces, there is now a communal spaces, a place where people can congregate and socialise.

Based on Radiation analytics in Summer period, the significant thermal difference have occured around the rear sides of corridor because of the changing in shading time. The solution herein is to create a more stable walkway to avoid the inbalance of thermal. The hot spot would be used as a undercover idle area. The Lot6 would be reoccupied as a garden, proving the comfort spots for sitting and picnic throughout the time of a day. COMPARISON OF RADIATION BWTWEEN OPIONS

Winter Afternoon

Different areas of the site have been designed for specific times of the day. The artificial topographic area is good for summer afternoons when the site heats up. However it is a little shady for Winter so the right side of the hill would be better for relaxing in the sun. The platform is also perfect for hot summer afternoons as it provides shade and the vegetation cools down the air. It is also a pleasant space in Winter mornings when the sun is shining through. However above the platform is best for Winter days as it catches the most amount of sun. The southern courtyard is also a nice place for Winter days as it catches a lot of sun, however can be quite hot in the Summer. The site caters for all times of the year and the various activities that can go on within the spaces. We wished to provide mostly for spaces where students could study outside in the small microclimates we have created.

05 Garden On The Wall Urban Landscape Design

Bachelor Thesis Project 2016

Located in the Dongcheng District of Beijing, the community of Baiyun Temple is close to the historical site Baiyun Temple in the north and faces the Tianning Temple in the south. The inland river Sanli River, the subway station, the Sinopec gas station and the Second Ring Road are all located in its surroundings. The four multistory apartment blocks with brick-concrete structure, which were built in the 1980s, are sill in good condition.

As an important transportation hub for surrounding residents, vertical greening at the crossroads can improve the residential environment and upgrade residents’ visual experience.

Based on the theoretical analysis of the urban street canyon, Street A has relatively satisfactory ventilation, while Street B belongs to the wide street canyon, where pollutants are likely to heap up in the poorlyventilated area. Ver tical green walls could facilitate the pollution abatement.
