Capability Appropriate design direction is generated through discussions amongst clients, architects and services consultants where various relevant issues are deliberated and brought to a level of understanding and commitment among the design team. This in turn gives rise to design decisions that dictate the size of the project, the context of the site and the constructibility of the concepts. The firm constantly exploits and evaluates the wide ranging contributions and ideas from all members within the firm, the clients and the consultants. MIX Studio possesses a rare and highly efficient infrastructure with its own six-storeyed office building in the heart of the city equipped to house multiple teams working simultaneously on various projects.

Studio Vision MIX Studio believes that design should be timeless, which while fulfilling a client brief, go beyond it. A design should stand the test of time, style and trends. Each client is important and special to the firm, and deserves attention and time. To that end, MIX Studio desires to work on only a few projects at a time to ensure complete focus and involvement. The team strives to make the office a second home for all those who work here, to evoke a sense of ownership and belonging, and create a happy, satisfying environment which enables each one to grow and evolve. The studio has a strong ethical culture which drives all designs in the studio! MIX Studio is a firm that has spent the last 18 years designing environments that are rooted in the earth – using the sun, the wind and nature to create spaces that are suffused with light and contemporary innovations that draw from traditions and spiritual metaphors.

Coucil & community vision In the ‘Brimbank Open Space and Playground Policy and Plan’, Brimbank Council managed to develop a better landscape system in the future. As the open space closest to the Sunshine station, the Portland Garden is the neighbourhood’s central park with the play space as its centrepiece. It displays our neighbourhood and community. Based on the requirement of residents and council, our team aims to build a well-established playground which offers exciting recreation facilities, exposure to different vegetation and artworks as well as rest and communication space. According to the Infrastructure, the residents are connected to the site. In the future, the Pollard Garden would promote community safety, create the new playground and social space.

Defining of the Future From our extensive assessment, Children and their parents in the community are the primary potential users of the site. Our team aim to create an attractive place for families to gather, socialise, and interact with their children through play. Children could stimulate their imagination and creativity here as well as their families would leave sweet memories. To achieve that ambition, we believe that traditional

passive open space is no longer the preference. On the contrary, the residents here deserve a place where shares their cultural identities and stimulate their sense of belongings. Thus, MIX is willing to invite residents and artists participating in the design process. With rich experience in designing the neighbourhood and community park, we guarantee you the most powerful and innovative outcome.

Activate the community by new public space. The Pollard Gardens neighbourhood park is a valued pocket park within the surrounding area and provides new open space for entertainment and public activities. This park is where the residents have fun, take rest and connect with other members. It is a joyful area which activate our community and increase the cohesion of the residents. MIX Studio believes that the neighbourhood park is a core of social contract. It shapes the character of our community.

Be welcomed & playful through recreation facilities The Pollard Gardens neighbourhood park provides opportunities for family-focused fun and recreation. Abundant and safe recreation facilities make the park where children play and enjoy outdoors. Meanwhile, cooperation with artists will bring fascinating qualities to the site. In the future, the garden would try to engage the children revel in the beauty of landscapes and the exhilaration of its ever-changing characters. MIX Studio is expert in the landscape design and always bring the smile and good memory of childhood to the children.

A safer neighbourhood by reconstructing the ignored corner The Pollard Gardens neighbourhood park can make a difference on community safety. This garden is ignored by the community as it is a gathering place for alcohol or even drug addicts, a better open space would decrease the crime and other negative events. At the same time, a graceful neighbourhood park will promote healthy lifestyles and reinforce active local values. It is a strong shift to community safety. MIX and team are renowned for the amazing designs for public landscapes and use it as a force for social progress.

Locating close to the Yarra River, this project was fully considered with the relationship between wild bird species and human neighbourhoods. Based on the research about local species, MIX Studio proposed the concept of ‘The Nest‘. The place served as both neighbourhood event spaces and children’s playground. Carefully selecting the bird attracting plant species, tree trunk-shaped climbing facilities and egg-shaped polished metal seats and distorting mirror made the place attractive and welcomed to children who love to take a wild adventure. Besides, MIX Studio invited nearby residents, local artists and biologists who participated in the design process.
