March 10th – 6:00-7:30

Patient Tah Kpaw receives dental care from Dr. Fry and dental assistant Angela Malpass while brother Tha Ktaw waits for his turn.

What Does a Learning Difference Look Like? What does a diagnosis of dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, a non-verbal learning disability, and/or an attention deficit disorder mean? What do these learning differences look like in the regular classroom? How do these students learn and how does the regular classroom look to them? Each of these questions will be addressed with the hope of gaining insight and empathy into the world of these students.

t may not seem like Summer yet, and of course we don’t celebrate the first day of Spring until later this month, but it is definitely time to start thinking summertime thoughts! March is Wilmington Parent’s Summer Camp issue, and our Camp Guide is packed with information. Wondering when to start signing up for camp, what types of camps are available, or what age your child can start? The answers to these questions and more begin on pg. 20! With Spring around the corner, we also see the beginning of another sports season. Some young athletes can be found on the field or courts year-round, and there is no denying the importance of staying active! However, John O’Sullivan’s article on pg. 19 questions the wisdom of certain aspects in the sport’s world that many parents and coaches have accepted as the norm. We hope to see everyone at Wilmington Parent’s 12th Annual Summer Camp Fair on March 7th from 10am-3pm at Independence Mall. This interactive event is fun for the whole family! Kids will find activities and entertainment, while parents explore adventure and enrichment options for the summer!

Plant a Flower Day 2015 Celebrated on March 12th every year, the Plant a Flower Day is a day dedicated to flowers. The message is to plant a flower on this day. Gardening is a lovely hobby and beautiful art for the whole family to practice at one’s own pace. Hence, this is the day to start something new and give your green fingers a chance. Flower Planting in Wilmington If the ground is warm, blooming shrubbery is best planted in Wilmington in mid-March. If it remains a little chilly, you may want to get some containers and start your flower planting indoors! Here are two that Lou’s Flower World on Oleander Dr. suggest starting on March 12th: Rhododendrons and Azaleas. They bloom in late spring to early summer; flower colors include pink, red, violet, yellow, and white, depending on the species and variety. Visit www. capefeargardenclub.org for help with getting started. Camellias. Visit www.tidewatercamelliaclub.org or www. americancamellias.com for information about planting these colorful beauties!

Diaper Bank of NC-Lower Cape Fear Seeks Donations Diaper Bank of North Carolina- Lower Cape Fear celebrated its launch on February 20, 2015. The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission of providing diapers to children in need. With 26 percent of its children living below the poverty line, North Carolina has one of the highest child poverty rates in the country. A rarely mentioned consequence of this poverty is children who go without clean diapers. Existing safety-net programs such as WIC and SNAP (food stamps) do not cover diapers. With the cost of diapers averaging $100 per month per child, many families struggle to afford the diapers their children need to stay healthy and comfortable. Imagine… • having to choose between buying diapers and putting food on the table • needing to leave your baby in the same diaper for the entire day - or longer • trying to clean a soiled disposable diaper so that it can be reused • listening to your baby cry because you don’t have a diaper for a change • dealing with your baby’s severe diaper rash, urinary tract infections, and skin infections • missing work or school because you can’t afford a full day’s supply of diapers as required by childcare facilities

910-795-2511 www.DrEggDental.com Mayfaire Town Center

Little mouths are a big deal.

But there is good news. When parents have reliable access to an adequate number of diapers, the benefits to family stability, health, and economic success are significant. Hotspot Drop-off Location Green Baby Diaper Service 6006 Oleander Dr. 399-3051 10-5:30 Monday through Friday Saturday 11-5 Green Baby Diaper Service is offering a FREE week of service for every 50 disposables donated for new customers.

In addition, if you have any questions regarding diaper need in our area or how you can help the diaper bank address this need, please call or email us at (910) 632-0636 or lowercapefear@ncdiaperbank.org.

The Pros and Cons of Anonymous Social Media

K

eeping secrets is part of growing up. Deciding what you’ll tell people about yourself—and others—is one way children develop an understanding of privacy and trust. With Facebook and other forms of public social media, nothing is secret. Even young children now know that comments or photos become part of a person’s “permanent record.” And that’s one reason many teens are switching to anonymous apps with names like Whisper, Secret, Yik Yak, Street Chat and FessApp. With anonymous apps, teens can let off steam without worrying about repercussions. They confess crushes and mistakes, make edgy jokes, laugh over embarrassing moments and divulge sensitive information. Some people also feel free to open up about serious problems--abusive relationships, conflicts with friends and family, concerns about mental and physical health and even self-destructive behaviors such as anorexia, cutting and suicidal thoughts. That kind of communication is very different from more public forms of social media where everyone puts their best food forward all the time. Living in a glass house can be boring, exhausting and even lonely because no one is spontaneous or even honest. At their best, anonymous apps are an opportunity for young people to explore the edges of who they are and find out that their problems are not unique. Of course, anonymity also has a well-documented dark side. Many people do things they wouldn’t otherwise do when they can’t be held accountable. On anonymous sites, people slander and threaten other people. They spread cruel rumors and solicit sex. Given the potential for serious problems, it’s easy for parents to overreact. That won’t help. Without understanding the allure of anonymous social media, parents can’t set effective limits. Although every anonymous app is a little different, parents quickly gain insight into the appeal of no-name social media by browsing whisper.sh, a site where “whispers” are shared, classified, rated and assembled into lists. Even a cursory look reveals whispers that are witty and confessional, harmless fun and seriously disturbing. Taken together, they provide a remarkable window into the anxieties, preoccupations, embarrassments and fears of other people, a collage that’s compelling for teens trying to figure out how they fit into the world. Armed with a basic understanding of anonymous social media, parents are in a better position to talk to teens. Here are questions worth asking:

What apps are you using? Find out what apps your child has installed. Just as important, find out what apps your child’s friends are using. Many kids feel they need to have a particular app simply to keep track of what’s being said by others. How are apps being used? Some teens use anonymous apps wisely— posting funny messages or even supporting people who seem to be having a tough time. Other kids are seduced by the popularity contest. In 8 | March 2015 | Wilmington Parent

order to get more “likes,” they push the envelope with posts that are increasingly outrageous, sexual or cruel. Children need to hear from you that you expect them to live up to their values in private as well as public settings.

What’s the appeal of anonymity? Help your child think through the pros and cons of anonymity. How does it influence what people post? Be sure your child understands that privacy policies for websites often change. Even though anonymity is likely with these apps, it’s never guaranteed. Also police can and do track down people who break the law by making threats or posting sexual photos of minors. What’s the role of GPS? Many popular anonymous apps depend upon the location service built into every smart phone. YikYak, for example, was designed by college students so people on the same campus could share random messages. In high schools, the program has been used for bullying, bashing teachers and even bomb threats. Yik Yak erected “geofences” that are supposed to make the program off limits for many public schools but, of course, that doesn’t stop students from accessing the program in other settings. If sites like this are causing problems at your child’s school, consider disabling the GPS feature on the phone.

Which sites should be off-limits? Make it clear that you don’t want your child to use “random chat apps” such as Omegle, Chatrandom and Tiny Chat. These are adult apps that make it all too easy for teens to connect with strangers. You may also want to steer your child away from sites that have developed a reputation for bullying. Ask.fm, for example, is notorious for cruel questions such as “why are you fat?” or even “why don’t you kill yourself?” Some people are trying to create anonymous social networks that bring out the best in people. Let (let.com) is an app that encourages people to award stars to each other. It claims to have zero tolerance for bad behavior. Outpour (www.outpour.io) allows users to share positive comments they might be too shy to make in person. Their motto: “Go find the beauty in people and tell them.” Even sites that try to monitor and remove offensive posts won’t be successful all the time, so teens who use anonymous apps are likely to encounter material that is confusing or even upsetting. Opening up candid conversation about these apps defuses their power. Teens may not tell their parents everything, but they should have confidence that, when they are burdened by a secret, the best people to confide in are still Mom and Dad. v Carolyn Jabs, M.A., raised three computer savvy kids including one with special needs. She has been writing Growing Up Online for ten years and is working on a book about constructive responses to conflict. Visitwww. growing-up-online.com to read other columns.

The Health Perks of Caffeine By Sandra Gordon

M

oms and caffeine go together like macaroni and cheese. But caffeine doesn’t just help get your morning off to a snappy start or power you through a mid-afternoon slump. It’s good for you too. The latest research offers new insight about the health perks of this potent pick-me-up.

Caffeine is the ultimate power tool. “Caffeine boosts brain power and memory, makes you feel more vigorous and improves mood,” says Harris R. Lieberman, Ph.D., a research psychologist with the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, Massachusetts. But don’t gulp down two cups first thing to turbocharge your day. A study Lieberman led involving U.S. Navy Seals found that an average of 300 mg of caffeine (equivalent to three cups of coffee or four cups of tea) consumed throughout the day is optimal for most people for peak mental and physical performance.

Coffee cuts endometrial cancer risk. Downing daily cups of coffee can reduce the risk of endometrial cancer, the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health found that women who drank three to four daily cups of java reduced their risk of endometrial cancer by 29 percent compared to women who drank little or no coffee.

Coffee helps derail diabetes. The pooled results of 18 studies involving over 450,000 people found that each daily cup of coffee consumed is associated with a 7 percent lower risk of diabetes. Follow-up studies show that coffee may reduce inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity. But again, don’t OD on the stuff. Some studies link coffee consumption—more than three cups of coffee per day—with an increased risk of rheumatoid arthritis.

Coffee won’t weaken your bones. Although a teeny bit of calcium does leach from your bones when you drink full-strength Java, it’s not enough to be harmful, even if you drink a lot of coffee. Still, if you want to make up the difference, pour in one to two tablespoons of skim milk or have a skim latte (half steamed skim milk, half coffee) instead. v Sandra Gordon is an award-winning freelance writer who delivers expert advice and the latest developments in health, nutrition, parenting and consumer issues.

The Buzz on Energy Drinks To tackle your to-do list, it may be tempting to gulp down an energy drink or two. The trendy tonic packs a concentrated dose of caffeine—as much as 207 milligrams, which is double the caffeine content of an 8-ounce cup of coffee. Energy products could be an emergency solution if, for example, you have to drive at night for a long distance and you’re tired. But over the long run, energy drinks aren’t so healthy for your heart. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the potent products can increase blood pressure, irregular heart rate and heart palpitations. If you have high blood pressure, downing these products could spike it into a dangerous range. Elevated blood pressure may lead to heart disease, heart failure, stroke and kidney failure. Energy products could also trigger atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem that’s associated with stroke. At the very least, the caffeine load in an energy drink could cause irritability and anxiety. The upshot? Skip energy drinks and enjoy less potent forms of caffeine.

He hated it.” “I know,” said another. “My 10 year old daughter’s soccer coach told her she had to pick one sport, and start doing additional private training on the side, or he would give away her spot on the team.” So goes the all too common narrative for American youth these days, an adult driven, hyper competitive race to the top in both academics and athletics that serves the needs of the adults, but rarely the kids.

The path is a race to nowhere, and it does not produce better athletes. It produces bitter athletes who get hurt, burnout, and quit sports altogether. As I said to my wife recently, the hardest thing about raising two kids these days, when it comes to sports, is that the vast majority of the parents are leading their kids down the wrong path, but not intentionally or because they want to harm their kids. They love their kids, but the social pressure to follow that path is incredible.

The reason? FEAR! We are so scared that if we do not have our child specialize, if we do not get the extra coaching, or give up our entire family life for youth sports, our child will get left behind.

This system sucks. It sucks for parents, many of whom do not have the time and resources to keep one child in such a system, never mind multiple athletes. There are no more family trips or dinners, no time or money to take a vacation. It sucks for coaches who want to develop athletes for long term excellence, instead of short term success. Most importantly, it sucks for the kids. Any sports scientist or psychologist will tell you that in order to pursue any achievement activity for the long term, children need ownership, enjoyment and intrinsic motivation.

We need to wise up and find a better path. Parents, start demanding sports clubs and coaches that allow your kids to participate in many sports. You are the customers, you are paying the bills, so you might as well start buying a product worth paying for. Coaches, you need to wise up as well. You are the gatekeepers of youth sports, the people who play God, and decide who gets in, and who is kicked to the curb. Every time you ask a 9 year old to choose one sport over another you are diminishing participation in the sport you love by 50%.

It is time to stop being scared, and stand up for your kids. There are more of us who want to do right by the kids than there are those whose egos and wallets have created our current path. We have just been too quiet for too long. We have been afraid to speak up, and afraid to take a stand. If you want to get off the road to nowhere in youth sports, and to stop feeling guilty about it, then please know you are not alone. Our voice is growing stronger every day. We can create a new reality, with new expectations that put the athletes first.

We can put our children on a road to somewhere, one paved with balanced childhoods, exploration, enjoyment, and yes, multiple sports. Someday our kids will thank us. v Soccer professional turned author, John O’Sullivan, founder of Changing the Game Project. O’Sullivan was captain of the soccer team at Fordham University, and then played in the USL for the Wilmington Hammerheads. O’Sullivan’s original article “The Race to Nowhere in Youth Sports” can be found at www.changingthegameproject.com.

What do local coaches have to say? Coach Dwight Findlay says: Coaches need to encourage technical development, while building players character and confidence. In my experience, the more kids get an opportunity to explore different options (sports), the more prepared they are to make better choices when they are older. Players also seem to get stuck at a certain level and never progress to the elite level when they don’t have the opportunity to play other sports. It is good for developing athletes at the middle school age and younger to explore different sports, that allows them to reach higher levels in their chosen sport. This also prevents drive and excitement from dwindling at that critical age of 13. Most importantly, when a child is playing for a coach and parent that is inspiring and encouraging, supportive and happy they play a better game. Coach Paul Cairney says: The vast majority of young athletes will never play beyond high school, so my overall opinion is to enjoy as many sports as you can. Physically, I do believe that kids should play different sports growing up. If they focus on just one sport, this may result in repetitive movement in just one area and could increase injury. Psychologically, one sport focus can result in burnout. Bottom line, sports should be fun and remember, it’s only a game. Dwight Findlay - Founder and director of Coaching & Performance Development for Superb Soccer, Superb Football, and Superb Basketball, and played at the First Division level in Trinidad and Tobago. Dwight is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, (NSCAA) and he holds diplomas for coaching children from the ages of 5 to 18. Paul Cairney - UNCW women’s soccer coach since 1994. A four-year letterman with the UNCW men’s team, Cairney has amassed 174 career victories and posted a winning record in eight of the last 12 seasons as he has developed the Seahawks into one of the Colonial Athletic Association’s top clubs.

Camp Counselor: Perfect Job for Teens By Gayla Grace

Responsibilities include ensuring they’re at activities on time, helping with needs as they arise such as minor first aid or sunscreen application, playing with kids at activities, and being a friend on a bad day or a homesick moment. Teens gain maturity as they help young campers with needs that arise.

Teens can begin working as camp counselors during their high school years and continue during college if they choose. Some camps offer the opportunity for younger teens to begin as counselors-in-training during their junior high years. Our 14-year-old son will be working as a JCT (junior counselor-in-training) for two weeks this summer at a camp close to home and can’t wait to get started.

2. Endurance. Camp schedules are packed with activities to allow the

A camp counselor job has a lot to offer your teen other than just an income. Here are a few life skills your teen will acquire:

1. Responsibility. A camp counselor is assigned a group of kids and asked to look after their needs and help manage their schedule.

kids opportunity to experience as much fun as possible in a short amount of time. Camp counselors must keep up, even on days they feel tired or unmotivated.

3. Selflessness. The teen years typically include spells of sour attitudes and selfish behaviors. A camp counselor role forces a teen to suppress his self-indulgent attitude and replace it with empathy and understanding for others. v As a freelance journalist and mom to five kids, Gayla Grace loves sending her teens to camp as counselors.

Wilmington area camp counselor opportunities UNCW Youth Programs UNCW typically hires college age counselors, however they do have a limited number of opportunities for younger teen volunteers. Potential volunteers are required to fill out an HR volunteer application and sign a release of liability form for the university. Once approved, volunteers will attend a training session to learn about best practices for working and communicating with youth. For certain programs a volunteer candidate may be required to undergo a background check. If you would like to volunteer with youth programs, please send your name, DOB, contact information, a brief description of your volunteer history and the reason why you would like to volunteer with our youth programs to Dr. Kezios at kezioss@uncw.edu. Wilmington Family YMCA Leaders in Training This camp environment provides a unique opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, particularly in assisting counselors with younger campers. The Y’s LIT program operates hand-inhand with the Youth Day Camp, providing young leaders the

www.wilmingtonparent.com

opportunity to mentor younger kids, participate in daily activities, and help counselors execute programming. Young teens will learn specific skills for working with kids and co-workers, and gain experience planning and leading activities. The LITs will always have an adult counselor with them and this Y camp program gives teens the opportunity to build their skills, confidence and capacity for working with people of all ages. Email Corey Maarschalk at Corey.Maarschalk@wilmingtonfamilyymca.org or call (910) 251-9622 ext. 255 for more information. Local Private Schools Many of the private schools in Wilmington offer summer day camps and enrichment activities throughout the entire summer. If your child attends one of these schools, ask about junior counselor opportunities for middle and high school students. Junior counselors are often a huge help during craft and game times! The counselors love to have an extra hand or two, and your aspiring camp worker will learn valuable work and volunteer skills.

Hoggard Student Named Candidate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Luke D. Guo, a graduating senior at Hoggard High School, has been named one of more than 3,000 candidates in the 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.4 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2015. Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 51st year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academics and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities. Candidates are also selected based on exceptional performance on either the College Board SAT or the ACT assessment. In addition, each Chief State School Officer (CSSO) was invited to nominate three male and three female candidates in their jurisdiction, based on outstanding student scholarship. Further consideration is based on students’ essays, self-assessments, descriptions of activities, school recommendations, and school transcripts. The U.S. Department of Education will announce the Scholars in May of 2015. Scholars will be invited to Washington, DC, for several days in June to receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a recognition ceremony and to participate in events and activities with their elected representatives, educators, and other leading individuals in public life. For more information about the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, parents and students can call the U.S. Presidential Scholars Office at (319) 688-4345, or send an email to PSP@act.org.

Roland-Grise Middle School’s Operation Love Program Celebrates 10 Years of Helping the Homeless For Roland-Grise Middle School, 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Operation Love, a service project geared toward helping the homeless population in New Hanover County. Roland-Grise Middle School students in the Striving To Achieve Excellence (STAE) elective class have been collecting toiletries, outerwear and children’s items for Operation Love since January 5, 2015. So far, Operation Love has collected over 1,000 items, which the STAE students sort into hygiene kits and children’s entertainment kits The students then deliver the kits to the homeless shelter on North 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. “This is a great opportunity for the students to see a fundraising project from start to finish,” said Kelly Oakley, STAE Coordinator at Roland-Grise. “Often, families donate canned goods and clothing to local drop-off locations with little knowledge of where those items go thereafter. This project gives the students the chance to take donated items to the shelter and interact with the folks who will receive them.” For more information on Operation Love, contact Mrs. Oakley at 350-2136.

90-Day Fitness Challenge at Century 21 Sweyer Two local business combined their efforts to encourage healthier lifestyles here in Wilmington. SHAPE: Get in. LLC, a Wilmington fitness group and premier personal training company, teamed up with Century 21 Sweyer for a 90-Day Fitness Challenge. Three SHAPE trainers graciously donated enough personal training sessions to allow 9 employees to workout twice a week from early January through the end of March. Century 21 has an existing in-house challenge they offer each year called “Dump the Plump” and the SHAPE trainers thought it would be fun to help the staff take their nutrition and fitness to the next level by working with them for the 90-day period. This challenge was the brainchild of one of SHAPE’s personal trainers, Fonda Dickens, who is friends with one of the owners at Century 21, Paige Sweyer. Fonda thought this program would be the perfect way for SHAPE to give back to our local community, and for two Wilmington businesses to join forces toward a common goal of improved wellness. Katharine Hesmer, owner of SHAPE, says, “I know it’s hard for me as a SHAPE owner to be objective, but I have to say that it’s been really fun to watch the challenge unfold, and to see how driven and determined the Century 21 staff have been. They are taking their sessions seriously and working hard.” SHAPE trainers have provided ongoing support, nutrition advice, and measurements (including weight) before and after the challenge. Added incentive? The male and female with the most weight loss at the end of the 12-week period will each win a Garmin Vivofit Fitness Band! For more information on how SHAPE can work with your employees on their fitness goals, visit www.shapegetin.com or contact katharine@ shapegetin.com.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) leads the nation in observing Brain Injury Awareness Month by conducting an awareness campaign in March each year. The theme for the 2015 to 2017 campaign is: Not Alone. The Not Alone campaign provides a platform for educating the general public about the incidence of brain injury and the needs of individuals who are injured and their families. The campaign also lends itself to outreach within the brain injury community to de-stigmatize the injury, empower those who have survived, and promote the many types of support that are available. Visit www.biausa.org for more information. Brain injury safety and awareness do’s: • New parents should be educated on the prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome. • Soft material should cover the area around playground equipment. • Infants and older riding in vehicles should be properly restrained. Parents should be education about proper installation and use of car seats, booster seats, and seatbelts. • Safety gates should be installed on stairs and other elevated areas, like outside decks, and safety bars on windows to alleviate falls. • Coaches, athletic directors, and officials should be trained about TBIs-what to look for and treatment. • Parents and youth athletes should be knowledgeable about the risks of head injuries in their sports and be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of TBIs. Athletes should wear protective equipment required, i.e. a helmet for horseback riding.

Single Parent or Superhero? By Heidi Smith Luedtke, PhD

C

meal once a week might lift your burden and brighten your spirits. The more specific your needs, the easier it will be to get help.

Single parents have important (and seemingly endless) responsibilities. Unless you have super powers, the stress of doing it all yourself can be overwhelming. But asking for assistance isn’t easy.

Brainstorm Buddies. Develop a list of resources, including family and friends, and church and community services. Don’t be afraid to put formal sources of support, such as counseling groups, on your list. Individual or group therapy can help you heal after divorce and learn to thrive as a single parent.

“It can be an act of tremendous courage, humility, or coordination to seek out help,” says family counselor Suzanne Harrington, MA. Single parents want to feel competent and in-control and asking for help can make us feel weak or inadequate.

Play to Others’ Strengths. Consider who is best at what and take preferences into account. If the kids’ grandparents get frazzled by babysitting, they might prefer to host a family dinner once a week to stay involved and give you a break. That’s okay. You want this to be a win-win situation.

Listen Up, Stressed-Out Superheroes

Help Kids Help You. Determine what kinds of contributions are ageappropriate for each child. Your six-year-old may be too young to vacuum, but she can set the table or sort the recycling. Older kids can take turns folding laundry or helping put away groceries.

Asking for help is smart, even when you feel you can manage alone. Studies show social support reduces the negative health effects of stress, including coronary disease and immune suppression, and boosts your sense of personal balance and well-being. You’ll have more energy and a more positive outlook with a team of trusted helpers around you. Parents who seek help can model reciprocity, humbleness, and gratitude, says Harrington. The helping community you create for your kids will likely inspire them to pitch in, too. Pitching in builds kids’ competence and provides a sense of accomplishment and belonging.

Discovering the Joys of Teamwork Slow down, superhero. Follow these steps to reach out and reconnect with sources of support. Identify Needs. Start out by figuring out what concrete help would be most beneficial, Harrington advises. Perhaps you need childcare so you can work, attend school, get counseling, or just relax. A home-cooked

Be Clear. When you seek help, explain exactly what you want. Misunderstandings happen when we assume others know our expectations. If you want the bathroom squeaky-clean, explain what clean means: towels hung up neatly, bath toys picked up, toilet and tub scrubbed, floor mopped. Set helpers up for success. The pressure to be a single-parent-superhero can be strong, and you may avoid asking for help because you fear you can’t reciprocate. People don’t help because they expect your assistance in return. They help because they love you and care about your family. Remind yourself that everyone benefits from meaningful social connections and take pride in the helpful community you’re creating for yourself and your kids. v
