Developer Offerings Homesites situated along the Atlantic shoreline in Windsor have been planned to maximize views while still allowing design flexibility and private beach access. They offer from 72 to 130 feet of ocean frontage. These few remaining homesites are reserved for ocean cottages, which may be conceived as relatively small cottages or as large compounds organized around a series of courtyards. Both choices allow for ample cross ventilation, while maintaining the openness and sense of privacy characteristic of Windsor. Buyers may work with their desired architect and choose one of the eight Windsor-approved builders to construct a residence. The lots conform to patterns already established on the ocean side of Windsor, where homes are low in scale and understated in style, yet showcase the designs of some of the world’s finest architects. Prices for oceanfront $2,650,000.

In the Golf Estates at South Village, the number of available properties also is limited. Homesites here stretch along the 4th through the 7th fairw ay s of Winds or’s aw ard-w inning golf course, with long views of greens, lakes and parks. This serene neighborhood, only minutes from Windsor’s Village Centre, is a good choice for those seeking a more private setting or a golffocused lifestyle. Seven limited-edition design plans are available and buyers who choose one of these approved designs can reduce typical custom home construction time by nearly half. These plans are suited to several different homesites in the South Village and are pre-priced for ease of planning. Homesites for the Golf Estates at South Village start at $450,000. Plan pricing begins at mid $2 million.

THE GOLF ESTATES AT SOUTH VILLAGE
comes to Windsor Scientists, environmentalists and other experts have been invited to Windsor to share research and to discuss the plight of the world’s oceans and marine life at a symposium scheduled for March 7-8. Windsor is partnering with The Aspen Institute, an education and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C., to organize the event. The Aspen I nst i t ut e Sym posi um on Oceans will be a series of lively sessions and discussions about the current state of oceans and how the ocean community can better communicate a message about conservation to policymakers and the general public. Another topic of conversation: What innovative tools for marine protection currently are being used, and what are the challenges to their success? The program will open with a reception and dinner at 6 p.m. on March 7 and will conclude after lunch on March 8. The event is open to Members, their guests and supporters of The Aspen Institute. USTA 10 & UNDER TENNIS PROGRAM
Village Life
Windsor has one of the most comprehensive club tennis programs in the country, with eight Har-Tru courts and a very active and social tennis club that offers recreational play for players of all ages and skill levels. This season, Windsor is involved with the United States Tennis Association’s 10 and Under Tennis program, a skills specific program geared toward children ages 10 and under. “The USTA 10 and Under Tennis program follows the same logic as other youth sports like baseball or soccer, which use kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment,” says Tom Fish, Windsor’s director of tennis. “The balls bounce lower, don’t move as fast through the air and are easier to hit. Racquets are sized for small hands, and courts are smaller and easier to cover.”
Last season, several Windsor Members gathered at the pond by the stables for a few afternoons of friendly competition. They used a small wind sock to test the direction of the wind as it came around the stable, and then launched remotecontrolled Laser sailboats from a small dock. Using simple controls, they sailed their boats through a race course created with buoys.
We couldn’t say. The new Windsor Sailing Club wasn’t yet keeping records.
“By using this new play format, the benefits are immediate, and within a short time kids are rallying, playing, and excited to keep playing,” he says. “That means kids will have more fun and less frustration. They’re playing real tennis and having real fun — and that’s what is most important.”
The boats, which are about 40 inches long and 6 feet tall, have a single mainsail. The remote transmitter has controls that allow the boats to be sailed just like their full-sized versions. “This is so much fun, we want to share it with anyone – experienced or not,” Shelby says.
Who won?
Windsor Pro Kristen Wilson works closely with the Mardy Fish Foundation, which was asked to champion 10 and Under Tennis for the Treasure Coast region. Wilson received extensive training directly from USTA that will benefit Windsor’s tennis program, Fish says.
The Sailing Club held one session just for kids; another is planned for this season. This is one activity Members can enjoy with their grandchildren, Shelby says.
“Our focus was on having fun and learning how to control and race the boats so no official records were kept,” says Windsor Member David Shelby, who established the club with fellow Windsor Member Charlie Leighton. “By the end of the season, we had 17 boats owned by Members. We have all ages including several 10 to12 year olds who are very competitive.”
Expect even more fun this year, he says, as the club plans new activities such as scheduling regional regattas with similar fleets at Orchid Island and, perhaps, keeping records and hosting an awards dinner. The 2013 schedule begins in January at 4:00 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays. The Sailing Club invites other Members to join in the fun. “Help in rigging and learning to sail is available on request,” Shelby says. As might be expected of a community designed to foster interaction, Windsor has no shortage of diverse and creative clubs and activities. Windsor Members have formed a Wine Club, a Book Club, a Bridge Club and a Duplicate Bridge Club.
Windsor’s tennis program includes a number of other activities and events for all ages including club championships, junior clinics and a junior round robin tournament. Windsor’s courts, designed by Wimbledon champion Stan Smith, are surrounded by lush walls of scented jasmine that create an intimate playing experience as well as a perfect windbreak.
A group of Members meets for evenings of dinner and theater. There is also a Gun Club, which plans shooting trips, and an International Art Committee, which serves as ambassadors for Windsor’s Art Programme.
An all-white dress is observed on the courts. Private instruction is available.

DECEMBER 2012/JANUARY 2013
Gert & Uwe Tobias Exhibition Opens sculptures combining influences from traditional folk art and abstract art from the early 20th century. For their show at Windsor, the Romanian-born twin brothers will create a site-specific installation of large woodcut prints of vibrant, jewellike colors conceived for the gallery’s unique environment.
Works of art by Gert and Uwe Tobias will be on view at The Gallery at Windsor from December 9 through April 4, 2013. This exhibition will be the first in Florida for the internationally celebrated artists, who are known for collaborating on large woodcuts, gouache paintings, typewriter drawings and ceramic
“We are very grateful that, thanks to the Whitechapel Gallery and Mr. and Mrs. Weston, we will have the opportunity to exhibit at The Gallery at Windsor,” Gert and Uwe Tobias said in a statement. “Following our projects at the UCLA Hammer in LA and MoMa in New York, six and seven years ago respectively, it will be interesting to show a small yet exquisite overview of our works from the last few years in the U.S. We’ll be presenting a wide selection of our ‘drawings’ made with a typewriter, plus collages and woodcuts on paper as well as woodcuts on canvas, which is a new technique developed by us in the last year. In terms of themes for the exhibition, we’ll be
developing the ideas that have intrigued us recently, including paraphrases of Dutch still life painting, medieval applied printing and Mannerist printing. We are very much looking forward to the show and the whole experience.” Gert and Uwe Tobias, who have worked together since 2001, will attend the opening weekend of the show, which is the second of three annual exhibitions curated by the Whitechapel Gallery, in partnership with Windsor, to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. The gallery opens at noon by appointment each day except Tuesdays. Closing times vary. To schedule a guided tour, please call 772 388 4071 or email gallery@windsorflorida.com. On April 16, the show moves to the Whitechapel Gallery in London, where it will be on view through June 14.
