We’re proud of the PARTNERS we’ve generated in the past few years to help provide new and improved recreational opportunities. These include but are not limited to Chimney Park re-Create, Boardwalk Park, Windsor Charter Academy play structure and the Poudre River Trail, just to name a few. Watch for a random survey early in the year from the YMCA, another potential partner for the Town of Windsor! The survey will focus on program gaps and amenities desired by the community. Community Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk The Town of Windsor Tree Board will host the 6th Annual Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 16th. The race will start and finish at Boardwalk Park and follow the Windsor Lake Trail. Proceeds will go towards planting trees throughout the community. Leashed dogs are welcome. Fee includes a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top runners/ walkers in each category and lots of giveaways will be handed out! Active Adults Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Tour

Walking Levels for Trips and Tours

In Breckenridge each year, blank canvases of snow become works of art. From a whimsical bouquet of enormous flowers, to thought provoking abstract shapes, sculptors form these masterpieces before thousands of spectators over the course of five days in the heart of town. In its 21st year, artists from all over the world will come together to present intricate, awe-inspiring snow sculptures. These artists will carve twenty-ton, 12-foot-tall blocks of snow into pieces of art using only their creativity, inspiration, own two hands and permitted hand tools. Capitol Building & Byers Evans House Tours This 45-minute legislative orientation may include a visit to the House and Senate galleries and a possible meeting with a lawmaker. After the Capitol tour, step into the past at the Byers-Evans House Museum. The house was built in 1883 by Rocky Mountain News publisher Williams Byers and sold in 1889 to the family of William Gray Evans, an officer of the Denver Tramway Company. Adaptive Recreation What is Adaptive Recreation: Adaptive Recreation are recreational opportunities designed for people with disabilities. In addition to all of the fun opportunities, Adaptive Recreation allows participants to meet new friends & practice life skills. How to become a participant: Prior to participating, each participant must have a current Participant Information Form, complete with parent/guardian signature, on file with the Adaptive Recreation personnel. Forms are located at the CRC, 250 N. 11th St. Inclusion Opportunities: Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to participate in general recreation classes offered by the Town of Windsor. The meal builds on that with vegetables (subji), curries, chutneys, pickles, etc. as concurrent courses and finally ends with traditional desserts. A typical Indian vegetarian plays on the numerous variations of this plan to get a nutritionally balanced diet. This class teaches one of the popular variations prevalent in Northern India. Sewing with Letha Price Basic Sewing

Join in on the fun of the “Apron Craze” by making one for yourself or as a gift! Designed for novices and those wanting a sewing refresher. Focus will be on basic sewing techniques and terms, fabric selection and cutting, and operating a sewing machine. Develop and sharpen your skills by making an apron. You’ll see that sewing is very rewarding. You’ll have “sew” much fun.

A minimal fee for a kit/pattern is required and due to the instructor on the first day of class. Machines provided if needed.

Learn the basics of painting with the palette knife. Have fun learning a new style and create a still life painting. The instructor will supply oil paint for this class so you can experience the use of prismatic palette colors. Students need to bring 2 palette knives; small size 1001 and large size 1002, one canvas size 11 x 14 and one tube of titanium white oil paint (prefer water soluble). Perform at local parades and festivals! Taught by one of the nation’s top twirling instructors, Director of the Rocky Mountain Golden Girls Baton Academy, Yvonne Pedersen. Recreation Girls Softball Indian Peaks League Windsor Parks and Recreation girls ages 12 & under, 14 & under, and 18 & under will participate in the Indian Peaks Girls Softball Association League (IPGSA). This “C” level recreation league has been serving girls along the Northern Front Range for over 20 years providing friendly fast pitch competition. IPGSA teams can play in a tune-up tournament, play 10-to-12 league games, a round robin tournament, and can qualify for a post-season tournament. League season runs from May 4 – July 3. High School Summer Baseball

14 Year Old Baseball

This is a competitive baseball league that is an extension of the Windsor High School baseball program and organized by the high school baseball coaches. Players will initially be split into three teams, Varsity, JV, and C team with the possibility of moving from one team to another throughout the season. Teams play 25-to-35 games in both wooden bat and aluminum bat leagues. Teams will also participate in tournaments during the season and post-season.

In order to prepare Windsor 8th graders for the summer high school league, Windsor Parks and Recreation will join the Fort Collins Baseball Club (FCBC) in a spring ONLY Rookie League for 14 year old teams. This league will begin in early April and finish before Memorial Day Weekend. League will consist of 10 games that will be played in various communities.

Sports – Youth Parent Meetings Reduced Fee Program The Windsor Parks and Recreation Reduced Fee Program is funded through generous donations from multiple sources including the Windsor Town Board and United Way of Weld County. Reduced fees are available for Town of Windsor residents meeting qualification guidelines including proof of income and household size taken from the most recent IRS tax form and proof of residency taken from a property tax certificate, Town of Windsor utility bill or rental agreement. The NYSCA training teaches coaches their responsibilities and holds them accountable to a strict code of conduct. It is mandatory for youth coaches to come to one of the scheduled meetings during the year! Coaches must stay for the entire two hours.

Forestry Treasure Island Garden Treasure Island Garden is a cooperative effort between the Town of Windsor and the Colorado Master Gardeners of Weld County. Treasure Island Garden, a demonstration garden with the Town of Windsor and Weld County Master Gardeners has produced over 550 pounds of food this year for the Windsor Food Pantry. Thanks to all the “passers-by” who offer encouragement and support. Thanks to the Town of Windsor for the land and water.

For now the garden is resting but will start up with spring. Please join us to “dig in the dirt” starting in April on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Spring will bring some new areas, ideas and a lot of work to the garden. The second Saturday classes will start on April 9, 2011, at 10:00 am. Please join us to discuss preparing your gardens.

Winter Watering Tips

• Dry air, little soil moisture & fluctuating temperatures are common during fall and winter. In the Front Range, it’s rare to have snow cover for a prolonged period of time.

• Severe drought stress can affect plant growth, health and vigor for years. Winter injury usually results in death of fine root hairs, which absorb water and nutrients. Plants may also be weakened, resulting in increased disease and insect problems. • Water plants only when daytime temperatures are above 40 degrees F. Apply water during the middle of the day so plants have time to soak up water before possible freezing at night.

• Plants near the foundation of the home or fences are more susceptible to injury due to reflected heat and intense sunlight.

• Established trees and shrubs should be watered every four weeks if there is no snow cover or natural precipitation. Newly planted trees and shrubs should be watered every two weeks.

• Pay special care to evergreens, as their needles continue to lose water throughout the winter.

• As a general rule of thumb, apply ten gallons of water for each diameter inch of tree. For example, if the tree has a three inch diameter trunk, 30 gallons of water are needed at each watering.

• Winter watering is usually not necessary for established lawns. However, newly planted lawns (started within the last year) are more susceptible to winter injury and desiccation. • Make note on a calendar when natural precipitation occurs. Remember that any water is beneficial to your plants, even if you cannot keep a rigorous schedule. • For more information, visit the CSU Extension website at ext.colostate.edu and search for Fact Sheets #7.199 “Watering Established Lawns” and #7.211 “Fall and Winter Watering.”

Deadlines:

The registration deadlines for each event are listed in this brochure under the event description. A “first come, first served” wait list will be maintained after the deadline date to fill any remaining event openings.

Waiting List Procedure:

Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available. Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. You may stop in to the Community Recreation Center or go visit www.windsorgov.com to fill out a refund request form. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Department cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

The Windsor Parks and Recreation Department’s goal is to provide our participants opportunities to form new friendships, meet new people, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible. Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Reduced Fee Program

The Windsor Parks and Recreation Department has a reduced fee program that offers financial assistance to both children and adults who need support in order to participate in recreation activities. Please contact the Community Recreation Center to obtain an application. Your request will be confidentially reviewed and approved based on financial qualifications. For details see page 35.

Tree Sale

Each year, the Town of Windsor Parks and Recreation Forestry division teams up with the Windsor Tree Board to help keep Windsor green! There will be a great selection of trees that grow well in the area provided at a discounted price! Trees are available for Windsor residents to be planted within the Town limits (for clarification on residency, please check your property tax statement).
