Napa Valley MUSTARD CELEBRATION
Here’s to the season between the seasons, when Napa Valley welcomes you in with bold, vibrant color.
As the tale is told, the first mustard plants arrived in the 1800s when Jesuit priests scattered seeds throughout Napa Valley. Today, visitors from around the globe flock to our premier wine country destination to enjoy this early-blooming crop, which famously ushers in a new growing season and blankets Napa Valley in swaths of vibrant yellow from January to March.
This “season between seasons” may be Napa Valley’s best. Between sprinkles of rain, Mustard Season is a refreshing time to frolic al fresco, take in the scenery, and discover local color.
No matter where you turn, it’s easy to immerse yourself in 35 miles of artistic beauty, thanks to Napa Valley Mustard Celebration events running across Napa Valley, from Calistoga to American Canyon, all Mustard Season long.
From January to March 2025, the Napa Valley Mustard Celebration promises to be an amalgamation of sight, sound, touch, scent, and taste. Brought to life by longtime Napa resident, art gallery owner, and Mustard Season beacon Jessel Miller – in collaboration with valley-wide local artists – this year’s celebration will offer live art demonstrations, local merchant spotlights, specialty food events, art-in-winery exhibits, dance parties, film screenings, art walks, and more. Get ready to experience Napa Valley’s creative “wow factor” on full display.

Meet the Artist: JESSEL MILLER Featured Artist
“ ”
I was honored to be chosen as the face of this valley-wide, threemonth celebration honoring Mustard Season. Four judges picked the image for the Napa Valley Mustard Celebration this year in a first-time competition. My piece, titled Napa Valley Mustard Moment, reflects the gentle movement and rhythm of our valley vistas.
I began my professional career in 1971 – moving to California in the early 1970s, after graduating from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. I made ends meet as a fashion illustrator and gradually supported my fine art career as a graphic artist. Back then, I considered myself a realist, loved portraiture, and began to focus on faces. In fact, I strictly worked on faces for 15 years and developed a rich, unique style in watercolors. I was shy then, but my personality blossomed while preparing for my first major show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1980. Melvin Belli, Diane Feinstein, and Maya Angelou were just 3 of the 25 personalities I met and painted for a Bay Area Personalities exhibition. My entrance to Abstract Expressionism (and “Jesselism” as I call it) began in 1984 when I moved to Napa Valley and opened the French doors to my gallery in a historic, 100-year-old building on Atlas Peak Road. The gallery grew from 300 square feet to 7,000 square feet over the next 40 years, and I have dedicated myself to supporting artists from around the country since. The official name on the door is Jessel Gallery, but this space is a cultural community center for all artists. My greatest strength as an artist is my ability to blend and harmonize color. There is a delicate balance when no recognizable characteristics are on a canvas; some find the work unfamiliar; some need to see something real reflected back at them, and some identify, recognize, and live in abstract world with me. It is my joy to share this planet with all art appreciators, with room to roam and bathe in a blissful kaleidoscope of color.
Artist Biography
Shania Twain and I were born in the same town in Northern Ontario, Canada. Watching a special on her life, I was moved by the photos of Timmins and the huge snow drifts on the side of the road. It brought back memories of my childhood, which was filled with hours of delving deep into my imagination.
There was a stillness in the small-town night skies in Ontario. Winters (with temperatures as low as 50 below zero) were from September to sometimes June, so without any devices or distractions, a child had to create the world they wanted to live in. Almost every evening after dinner, I would go outside, lie back in the snow, and gaze at the miracle of the Northern Lights. The tranquility transformed and transported me.
Like a cosmic comet, I flew into outer space and drifted among imaginary planets as a young artist, looking out into the world in wonder about how it all worked. My world was an enchanted land of music, dance, and art. 75 years later, it still is.

Epicurean Dynamic Duos
BY JENNIFER DADESHO
Some things are stand-alone classics, needing no introduction or accompaniment. Sometimes, though, a singular classic gets even better when it has a partner. Think Batman and Robin, Romeo and Juliet, Sonny and Cher. You get the idea.
In the world of iconic epicurean couplings, a few tried and true classic combos immediately come to mind – burgers and fries, hotdogs and beer, steak and potatoes. But let’s get somewhat more decadent, shall we? Dive into the ultimate indulgence of culinary pairings … caviar and oysters with their consummate companions – sparkling wine and vodka!
Whether you are a fancy foody or an appreciative explorer, keep this curated list handy, highlighting this more quintessential of gustatory experiences found in wine country – from Healdsburg to Sonoma and from Napa to St. Helena.
Breathless Sparkling Wines, Healdsburg
Breathless is the passion project of three Sonoma-born sisters paying homage to their mother, who taught them that every breath is a gift. Located a few blocks off the Healdsburg square, find this eclectic and eco-friendly spot featuring Art Deco-inspired interiors housed in a building constructed of reclaimed shipping containers. The award-winning team at Breathless offers a caviar picnic experience featuring Tsar Nicoulai caviar, sourced and harvested responsibly, served with the staple caviar accoutrement – crème fraîche and savory gourmet potato chips. At this casual outpost, you select the Breathless bottle to savor with your caviar. It’s laid back and effortless, and with the approachably priced Breathless bubbly, you just may find yourself staying around at Breathless long after the caviar is gone.
The briny, rich taste of caviar is balanced by the crisp acidity and effervescence of sparkling wine, creating a harmonious contrast that elevates both. Together, they create a perfect synergy that is both sophisticated and satisfying.
Patz & Hall Winery, Sonoma
The acclaimed Sonoma-based Patz & Hall is a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir house that sprung to life in the 1980s when James Hall and Donald Patz found a common bond over wine, in particular the elegant Burgundian varietals. Decades later, which included a change in ownership, James Hall has repurchased his winery and is reinvigorating not only the wine styles but also his partnerships with like-minded California winegrowers. Located minutes from the iconic Sonoma Square, the Patz & Hall Sonoma House offers several opportunities to enjoy the wines including its notable “Bubbles and Pearls” caviar and sparkling wine experience. This exclusive tasting highlights three current-release Patz & Hall sparkling wines – Rosé, Brut, and Blanc de Blanc – along with three Tsar Nicoulai caviars, served complete with the de rigueur caviar accoutrement.
Hanson of Sonoma Distillery, Sonoma
Anyone familiar with vodka will quickly tell you that most vodkas are distilled from rye or wheat and some from potatoes. But vodka distilled from grapes? Yes, that’s a real thing and Hanson of Sonoma really nails it! Family-owned and operated by founders, Scott and Judy Hanson, alongside their four children, Hanson of Sonoma produces organic, grape-based vodkas infused with natural fruits and vegetables, crafting uniquely flavored vodkas including a cucumber vodka, a Meyer lemon, and a habanero. This low-key spot offers vodka tastings that are fun, innovative, and informative but also offers a bit of indulgence, too. Don’t miss the vodka and caviar combo featuring a variety of crisp, clean Hanson vodkas coupled with a line of namesake caviars curated by Regiis Ova, the exceptional caviar brand from famed chef, Thomas Keller. The Hanson team offers another indulgence, too…oysters! Farmed and raised by nearby Hog Island Oyster Company, this pairing is another treat. Take some time to delight in either (or both!) of these experiences at Hanson. Vodka is a perfect complement to both caviar and oysters, serving as a palate cleanser, allowing the taste buds to fully experience the briny characteristics of both delicacies. And, yes, in Napa and Sonoma, wine is the rule and vodka is certainly an exception. So, don’t miss this exceptional experience!
Domaine Carneros, Napa
Established by the well-known family behind Champagne Taittinger, Domaine Carneros iconically stands atop a hill, giving off majestic vibes. Serving as the perfect Instagram-worthy photo opportunity, come here for the outstanding views but stay for the delightful sparkling wine. Domaine Carneros, one of the first wine estates in the region to offer such, boasts an ultimate caviar program. Taking place in the newly opened space within the chateau, Salon des Rêves, these elevated tasting experiences are extraordinary. The Salon des Rêves is an ultra-chic lounge evocative of a classy speakeasy. Commencing with the oysters and bubbly tasting, guests may further indulge with a custom selection of imported Tsar Nicoulai caviars paired with hand-selected sparkling wines from the estate. “The array of Tsar Nicoulai caviar pairings we offer at Domaine Carneros are a luxurious indulgence that elevate the sparkling wine experience, and guests can also
The clean, crisp profile of vodka, especially when served ice-cold, provides a neutral yet refreshing backdrop to the rich, briny flavor of caviar. The vodka’s purity enhances the caviar's delicate, oceanic taste, allowing the nuances of its texture and saltiness to shine.
feel good about the sustainable production methods of both the caviar and our wines,” said Remi Cohen, CEO at Domaine Carneros. Be sure to book ahead in order to secure your space within Salon des Rêves. Pairings are seasonally based, so the wine you sip and the caviar you savor will change throughout the year. Insider’s tip … be sure to indulge in a glass of Le Rêve Rosé, if it’s available. This effervescent sparkler is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes and is ever so delicate and elegant with or without that bump of caviar.
Cuvaison Winery, Carneros, Napa
At Cuvaison, you are going to fall in love. If not for the lovely wines, then for the breathtaking views. If not for the vistas, then for the kind, jovial, and welcoming wine ambassadors. And, if not for them, then the sparkling wine and caviar pairing will certainly have you hooked. Cuvaison wines first made their debut in 1969 and ten years later, roots were planted in the Carneros region of Napa Valley anchoring the spacious estate. Fast forward to present day, the wine experiences at Cuvaison are varied, relaxed, and always inspiring. Set amid rolling vineyards, the estate has recently unveiled its Boathouse Pavilion designed by renowned architect, Douglas Thornley. This area of the property is comprised of two stunning open-air boathouses extending out over the large Cuvaison estate pond. “The boathouses are designed to bring that feeling of walking down a dock to a boat slip and that sense of leaving worries and stress behind as you reach the water,” says Cuvaison President and CEO, Daniel Zepponi. Available for private tastings, the Boathouse Pavilion boasts an ultimately unique Napa Valley experience. Reserve a caviar and sparkling wine flight – which is certainly kicked up a notch if booked within one of the boathouses – and enjoy Regiis Ova caviars paired with Cuvaison sparkling wines. The Brut Cuvée, with its zesty vibrancy, is an ideal complement to the caviar. Effervescence and acidity from the wine coupled with the rich and briny flavors of the caviar are a perfect match. And, these flavors set against the beautiful backdrops at Cuvaison are yet another essentially natural pairing.
Arguably one of the more prolific people in the world of wine, Jean-Charles Boisset, provocateur, founder, and proprietor of the Boisset Collection, offers guests not one, not two, but three sparkling wine and caviar options and each experience promises decadence and fun.
Chateau Buena Vista, Downtown Napa
Sparkling wine and caviar tastings at Chateau Buena Vista taste good and look good, too. Relish in the plush décor at this two-story tasting room located in the heart of downtown Napa while savoring the diverse bubbly and rich caviar combos. After enjoying salty and savory tastes, save room – you may just find yourself lingering longer to experience another great duo at Chateau Buena Vista … the chocolate and Cabernet pairing.
JCB Tasting Salon, Yountville
For a gilded experience among beautiful crystal chandeliers, stop in at JCB Tasting Salon to enjoy caviar paired with bubbles served within a hip and ultra-blingy setting. This location is truly a feast of the senses, dishing up delectable bites amid an array of eye candy décor.
The Ink House, St. Helena
At the historic Ink House, guests may opt for private, guided tastings featuring a roundup of bubbles from the JCB Collection paired with artisanal caviars from Boisset’s namesake caviar trove. The Ink House, constructed in 1885 by Theron H. Ink, an early California pioneer and farmer, has been a Napa Valley landmark for more than 130 years. Fun fact: this historic building also served as home to Elvis Presley in 1960 during his filming of the movie, “Wild In The Country”.
From casual to glamourous and informal to structured, armed with this list of not-to-be-missed experiences, when the whim for indulgence strikes, find no shortage of interesting options for exploring caviar, oysters, bubbly, and vodka in Napa and Sonoma. Grab your best mate and make like a dynamic duo yourselves, touring around California’s iconic wine country to experience the most supreme of epicurean duos.

This remarkable wine is a true standout, celebrated for its rich complexity. With its bold structure, luxurious fruit notes, and velvety finish, the 2021 Yates Cabernet delivers a tasting experience worthy of its acclaim.
98 Points: “A distinctive, singular wine made from mountain-grown grapes, it offers dried sage, white pepper and mineral accents over extremely sinewy, vibrant red and black fruit and nervy, firm tannins. Tasty, toasty oak accents like vanilla, caramel and espresso. Use of 24 percent Hungarian oak barrels accounts for some of its personality.”

WINE TASTING on the historic SONOMA PLAZA
BY JODY PURDOM
Experience the serene charm of Sonoma Plaza in the cool, winter months, where intimate wine tastings offer a cozy escape and a chance to savor the region's finest vintages without the crowds.
With little effort, visitors can take advantage of dozens of tasting options right on the historic Sonoma Plaza. Boasting eight acres of green space dotted with trees, picnic benches, a duck pond, and fountain the Plaza is a beloved open space right in the middle of town. Work your way around the eclectic mix of tasting rooms. A few of our favorites are listed below and we encourage you to try these and also seek out the other hidden – and not so hidden – gems.
Ledson Winery’s Zina Lounge
Located in Sonoma’s Ledson Hotel, the Zina Lounge is the epitome of classic elegance. This unique gem on the Plaza offers a rare opportunity to explore three exceptional wine labels all under one roof: Zina Hyde Cunningham, Ledson Winery and Vineyards, and the Mountain Terraces label. At Ledson, the belief is that great wines begin in the vineyard, where a dedication to unique and meticulous farming techniques sets the foundation for excellence. General Manager, Brandon Garcia says that his commitment extends into the winemaking process, resulting in wines that beautifully capture the essence of terroir and a true sense of place.
“What truly sets Ledson apart is our passion for providing not just one standout varietal, but a collection of wines that each tell a story of their origins and craftsmanship.” The knowledgeable staff is available to provide a memorable tasting journey, offering insights into the distinctive qualities of each label. Part of the experience at Ledson Hotel and Zina Lounge is enjoying these phenomenal wines in the lobby of the beautiful and intimate sixroom, family-owned hotel, which takes you back to another era.
Corner 103
Opened in April 2015, Corner 103 was recently ranked in the top 10 in USA Today’s Reader’s Choice awards for the second year in a row – the only Napa or Sonoma winery to be awarded this distinction. Sourcing grapes from 12 vineyards located throughout Sonoma County, Corner 103 is best known for its Sparkling Rosé, Chardonnay, and Corner Cuvée, a four varietal blend that varies each year with a majority (60%) of the grapes being Merlot based. The downtown Sonoma tasting room is centrally located and provides a comfortable ambiance where guests can enjoy the award-winning wines (multiple gold medals and consistently ranked in the top ten best tasting rooms) while learning from the friendly and knowledgeable team in a non-intimidating way. Each of the seated tasting experiences is one-on-one and reservations are limited to keep the space feeling intimate yet unpretentious. A food pairing is also on the menu and is a perfect addition to a relaxed and approachable wine tasting experience at this beautiful Plaza tasting room.
Kamen Estate Wines
After celebrating the sale of his first screenplay in 1979, Robert Mark Kamen came to Sonoma to celebrate with friends. His visit ended with the impulsive
produce from the Kamen estate and paired perfectly with Kamen wines. Book your Estate Experience today!
purchase of 300 acres of wild, untouched, mountainside property now the home of Kamen Estate Wines. Kamen is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, which was the first variety planted on the property in 1980 using cuttings of the Martini clone from the nearby and historic Monte Rosso vineyard. Also notable, Kamen was one of the first vineyards in California to be certified organic and has maintained that commitment for over 40 years. One of the first downtown Sonoma tasting rooms to offer a luxury wine experience, Kamen hosts an approachable and unpretentious exploration of serious, world-class wine. The modern and inviting tasting room is open daily for guests to experience a changing selection of limited production wines. A tasting bar is open to walk-in visitors for a tasting flight, or seated reservations allow for guests to indulge in a more immersive experience. The incredibly warm and educated staff take guests through a unique journey of the man who wrote Karate Kid and then found accidental success as a vintner. The story is as remarkable and authentic as the wines.
Moon Hollow Estate Wines
New to the Sonoma Plaza, Moon Hollow Wines is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon and its friendly, downtown tasting room. Selling wine by the glass or bottle, the inviting staff welcomes guests to the comfortable space. Sourcing its grapes from atop Gehricke Road in the Moon Mountain district AVA, the vineyard was replanted from scratch in 2011. Today, the vineyard carries on the legacy of Cab, which is well suited to the volcanic soil as well as the history of the vineyard. Elsewhere, Moon Hollow grows Sauvignon Blanc of which just 300 cases are made each year. Similarly, another tiny vineyard produces about 400 cases of Grenache per year. Carrying on a tradition is as important to Moon Hollow as is being a part of the community. A visit to the tasting room showcases simple yet eclectic décor where fake sheep greet visitors each day.
Capo Isetta
A long and distinguished wine making heritage defines the Isetta family, where Giacomo Isetta first excelled as a cooper. Generations after “Nonno” lovingly handcrafted wine barrels, others in the family worked in various winemaking endeavors throughout the state. Today the wines, including a Red Blend, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay, and a Rosé, are all driven by outstanding vineyards located in the northern part of Sonoma Valley. The downtown tasting room is a reflection of the family legacy, their mark on the industry, and commitment to the local community. The family-friendly space is open until 9PM and brings outstanding hospitality, exceptional wines from local farmers, small bites and good cheer. Watch the game on the large screen TV while enjoying a glass of wine. A barrel room is also available for business off-site or teambuilding events. Whatever your fancy, at Capo Isetta, you are family.
Caddis Wines
Explore the rich, complex flavors of expertly crafted wines from Caddis. Winemaker and owner Chris Sorensen is dedicated to producing small-batch, handcrafted wines that showcase the unique character and terroir of both the Sonoma Valley and Livermore Valley. His wines are known for their balance, complexity, and expression, and they are enjoyed by wine enthusiasts all over the world. Chris is also committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship, and he works closely with local grape growers to source the finest grapes and implement eco-friendly practices at the winery. The Sonoma Plaza tasting room has become more than just a space to savor these exquisite wines; it’s a warm and inviting haven for wine enthusiasts. Note: Chris's love of fly fishing has also inspired the name and branding of Caddis Wines, which is named after the caddisfly, a delicate insect found in the streams and rivers of Sonoma Valley.
Whether you’re spending a few days in Sonoma or just a couple of hours, the Plaza tasting rooms are not to be missed.
COLE’S CHOP HOUSE Where Everybody Knows Your Name
n BY LAYNE RANDOLPH
Owner Eric Keffer encapsulates the culture at his restaurant, Cole’s Chop House, with this sentiment: “When you come in here, you see these pictures on the wall, and they’re locals. They’re not celebrities. These are local patrons who have been supporting us for years and years and years, and it’s like our little way of saying thank you.”
What started as a job for Keffer when he was young, led to him owning the restaurant 16 years later. When Greg Cole and Beth Fairbairn, the proprietors (and his bosses), called him into their office and asked him to sign a non-disclosure agreement, he knew immediately what was happening. “The first thing I said was, ‘Who are you guys selling the restaurant to?’ And Greg Cole looks at me and said, ‘Hopefully, you.’”
“Then Greg gave me the greatest compliment that I’ve ever received. ‘Eric, you run the restaurant like an owner would.’” That day started the journey that brought Keffer and his wife Heather to the present day, owners of the very successful Cole’s Chop House.
n Classic American Steakhouse
As the owner of a classic American steakhouse, he takes the concept of quality to a new level. He sources the finest meats from across the country and beyond, including 21-day, dry-aged U.S.D.A. certified prime steaks, midwestern corn-fed Black Angus beef, formula-fed veal, and New Zealand lamb. They source their products through Allen Brothers of Chicago, renowned for their unwavering commitment to excellence.
But Cole’s is more than just a place for topquality dining. “I always make a point to be at the restaurant on [certain holidays] because we have so many families that come in, even if it’s only once a year, they come in here just on that day, and it’s very humbling and very touching when you see that part of their Christmas or Father’s Day tradition is Cole’s Chop House.”
n Raising The ‘Bar’
Keffer made a few changes once entirely in charge, extending the bar offerings, including adding to an international wine list, classic cocktails, and rare bourbon and whiskey selections.
“You know, before Greg and Beth, we had a few European wines, but we’ve broadened that out—along with our whiskey selection. Jamin Hollabaugh oversees our cocktail program, not just the handcrafted cocktails that we do but also the unique flavors of different bourbons that we get and different whiskeys from around the world. And he’s put his little niche on it.”
n Something For Everyone
Speaking of niche, while Cole’s is a steakhouse through and through, Keffer wants all guests to feel comfortable, so he added vegan, and children’s options to the menu. For pescatarians, there’s Cole’s Oysters Rockefeller, Cold Water Maine Lobster Tail with Drawn Butter, New Zealand Öra King New Zealand Salmon Filet, and for non-fish eaters, Cole’s offers a plant-based Ribeye. Children also have menu options, but Keffer emphasizes that whether items are a part of the menu or not, his team will ensure the little ones are happy so the adults can relax.
n Preserving A Legacy
The Keffers are carrying forward the Cole family legacy by upholding the standards that made the restaurant a local favorite. “Greg and Beth have always been such a predominant connection in the community. Anytime you walk into a business that has another individual’s name on it, it holds you to a very high standard. That’s a marker my wife and I must maintain, if not try to exceed. That’s the mindset I started with from the first day I worked here. And I will keep it until the last day I work here.”
Your Tasting Adventure Awaits at HANSON OF SONOMA DISTILLERY
Craft cocktails. What comes to mind when you read that heading on a menu? Fun, innovative, tasty ... and probably expensive. So, when offered the opportunity to join a Mixology class at Hanson of Sonoma Distillery, I immediately signed up. Not only was I interested in expanding my knowledge of spirits, but I’ve always wanted to have a “signature cocktail” to serve my guests, a unique concoction that my friends would savor whenever the party was at my home, minus the hit to the budget that an evening out together enjoying craft cocktails would entail.
BY RONDA GIANGRECO
JACK’S MIXOLOGY LAB
Vodka is often the best choice when designing a craft cocktail, as it’s neutral flavor makes it one of the most versatile spirits available to a budding mixologist. Another wonderful trait of vodka is the absence of any sugar, and thus fewer calories than other liquors.
Jack Swanson, Hanson’s exceedingly warm and entertaining mixologist was the perfect guide to help me discover the secrets of balance, creativity, and precision needed to create my signature cocktail. Under his supervision I learned to make two exclusive, handcrafted cocktails. More importantly, he taught us about the production process and how to infuse vodka with a host of unique flavor profiles, combine ingredients in innovative ways and finish cocktails with flare. The entire evening was filled with laughter, comradery and good spirits, both in and out of the cocktail glasses.
Don’t have time for a class or an entire tasting experience, pop in for flavorful and affordable cocktails – some of the best in the valley!
Hanson vodka, made from grapes rather than potatoes, stands out for its purity, crispness and smooth palate feel. While it makes an excellent base for cocktails, it’s when sipped “straight” that you can sincerely appreciate the loving care with which the Hanson family has approached their production of the spirit that bears their name.
AWARD-WINNING VODKA
The idea for a locally produced vodka was hatched by the Hansons in 2012, and took two years of research and development, as well as 155 experimental batches to create the perfection they sought to achieve, thus garnering a “Platinum Award” and “Best in Show” at the Spirits Internation Prestige Awards.
Hanson also distills an incredible single malt whiskey from malted barley!
The tasting room at Hanson of Sonoma Distillery is one of the most welcoming and cozy corners of the valley. The distillery opened in Sonoma in 2018 and was followed by the opening of a second venue, the Hanson Sausalito Tasting Room, in early 2019. The hip mixed metal and dark wood interior of the Sonoma tasting room is the perfect place to sit back and relax with a beautifully made craft cocktail. Add to the experience by getting to know one of the Hanson Mixologists who are all happy to share a taste or a pour with all of their guests!
Hanson also offers Martini and Caviar pairing or the ever-popular Vodka and chocolate tasting. Yum!
VISITING HANSON OF SONOMA DISTILLERY
Whether you are visiting for an afternoon, or participating in one of their monthly hands-on classes, you’ll be treated to tasty concoctions and lively banter that will undoubtedly be a highlight to your day in the wine country of Sonoma Valley.
SHAKE THINGS UP AT HANSON DISTILLERY!

Wild
Mushroom Forays (Four Sessions: Saturday + Sunday)
The festival a weekend full of truffles, but we couldn’t resist a walk in the woods in search of wild mushrooms! Join experts David Campbell and Norman Andresen in small groups for a delightful foray into the woods above Napa Valley. Follow along as they forage for exotic mushrooms in their native habitats at the height of the mushroom season!
“We’ll
see what we find and find what we see! With a little luck, perhaps we’ll find porcini, hedgehogs, chanterelles or candy caps.” – David Campbell
We have limited the group to guarantee personal attention and interactions with your guides. You’ll also receive a handy copy of
A Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of California to use and take home.
You’ll also savor delicious fresh truffle quiche bites before venturing out to enjoy nature as you learn the basics about mushrooms, including the process of mushroom identification, as well as proper handling and cooking options for edible mushrooms. Most excitingly you’ll be able to keep any that you find!
Past forays have led to such fascinating mushrooms as the popular and deliciously fruity, peppery chanterelle; and candy caps, whose sweet aroma often finds its way into cookies and ice cream; also matsutakes, highly prized (and priced!) in Japanese cuisine and, more recently, in Michelin star restaurants around the world. Foragers also came across many breathtakingly beautiful, non-edible species, such as toadstools. Foraging for wild mushrooms should only be done with knowledgeable mushroom experts, and you will not find a more qualified expert than foray leader David Campbell, the Bay Area Poison Control Center’s go-to mushroom guy.

Discover the Unique Charm of
Lake County
W/ine tasting in Lake County offers a captivating .journey through some of California’s hidden gems in the world of winemaking. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, this region boasts a diverse array of vineyards and wineries, each offering its own unique charm and character. Lava domes, cinder cones, and the world’s largest geothermal field define the area and the terroir. The grapes, and therefore the wine, are uniquely influenced by geology. There are over thirty wineries to explore, with wines to savor. Sip distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc in addition to numerous other varietals. The area is so well regarded for grape growing that several prominent names, such as the Jackson Family, Foley Family, Beckstoffer, and Constellation Brands own vineyards in Lake County. From family-owned boutique wineries to larger estates, there's something to suit every palate. The experience goes beyond just tasting wine; it’s an opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture and hospitality while enjoying breathtaking views of Clear Lake and the surrounding mountains. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, wine tasting in Lake County promises an unforgettable adventure.
Let’s eat!
When in Kelseyville, you have to eat at Saw Shop Public House! Their motto is “Welcome to our house—everyone is local, and locals are family.” The food here will blow you away. It’s good, fun, tasty and friendly. On The Waterfront Restaurant in Lakeport is a modern eatery with a globally inspired, progressive menu of original dishes meant to be shared. The fresh and ever-changing seasonal menu is designed to tantalize your senses with a fusion of flavors, complemented by wine, to deliver an unforgettable experience. At the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake, the atmosphere exudes a warm, inviting charm that makes it a local favorite. The rustic wooden interiors, adorned with vintage photographs and eclectic memorabilia, create a nostalgic ambiance that perfectly complements the hearty comfort food on the menu. Another local favorite is Red's at the Skyroom in Lakeport. Relax and watch the small planes fly in and out while enjoying traditional comfort food like fish and chips, specialty burgers, fried chicken sandwich or Uncle Gary’s Pot Roast Sandwich. But the twist? Oysters and sushi! Greenview Restaurant is another delicious option, located on the Hidden Valley Lake Golf Course.
The Drive Up to Wild Diamond Vineyards
Will Reward and Thrill You
This is what makes a wine special: The place, the terroir, the view, the people you are with and of course, the wine! Wild Diamond Vineyards produces small-production, handcrafted wines that are estate grown, reflective of the unique volcanic influence terroir.
As you sip your wine, settling into one of the several comfortable tasting areas, you are surrounded by a 360-degree view of Lake County – hills and vineyards. When conditions are right, you can see Lake Berryessa or the spouts of geysers in in the distance …all as you sip elegant wines. Bordeaux lover? Rhône lover? Go no further. Winemaker Bruce Regalia knows his craft well – and he lets the grapes and the earth speak to you.
There are many wineries in Lake County, each with its own special appeal. However, if you want to experience a glass of wine at the top of the world, where all your senses will come together, this is an experience you must treat yourself to. It will take your breath away.
