Looking back on 2009, we want to convey our heartfelt appreciation for your long-term support for Spottswoode. Because of your expert salesmanship and your steadfast loyalty Spottswoode wines continue to find their place in the finest and most notable establishments. We can’t thank you enough for that. With a smile we look forward to 2010…. In mid-release of our 25th vintage, the 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys center stage due in part to a new review from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. We are happy to share his enthusiastic description of this wonderful vintage. “This wine, which I believe will evolve for 25 or more years, has a gorgeous nose of violets, black currants, licorice, camphor, and a hint of graphite. Layered, rich and full-bodied, the wine has an opaque purple color as well as wonderful purity and balance. It’s a beauty, perfectly balanced and as flawless and seamless as a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa can be.” December 2009 - 95 points We remain true to our long-time tradition of thoughtful allocations that are held for you and you alone. If you have yet to collect all of your 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, now is the time. This wine, showy and complex, expresses the heart and soul of the Spottswoode Estate. Cheers, Lindy Novak and Tracey Skupny

Código Vino y Año P. It boasts off the charts intensity as well as an opaque purple color, and notes of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, roasted coffee beans, pepper, smoke, and a hint of sweet toasty oak. This full-bodied, rich, intense, backward Syrah needs 2-3+ hours in the decanter if one is going to approach it at this point in its life. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040+.” -The Wine Advocate 199804 Clarendon Hills Blewitt Springs Grenache, South Australia 2004 $146.75 |$119.00| 94W&S 93RP “As usual for this cuvee, the 2004 Grenache Blewitt Springs possesses an extraordinary, exotic, flamboyant personality that causes Roman Bratasiuk to say it’s his “Dolly Parton-styled wine.” Terrific notes of blackberries, raspberries, and rich kirsch liqueur are accompanied by an opulent, flamboyant wine with tremendous viscosity and richness as well as a lusty, heady finish. In short, it’s a mouthfilling, full-bodied red to drink during its first 5-7 years of life.” -The Wine Advocate 199809 Clarendon Hills Moritz Shiraz, South Australia, 1999 $134.50 |$109.00| 95RP 93WE “...Gorgeous aromas of flowers, blueberries, cassis, and meat jump from the glass of this cuvee. With huge body and a rich, intense style, Bratasiuk claims it is his hypothetical blend of a Cornas and Hermitage, although it possesses more fruit than most of those wines. It should drink well for a minimum of 15 years.” -Wine Advocate 199052 Elderton Command Shiraz, Barossa, Australia 2003 $230.00 |$186.30| 95RP 94WS 93WE “While the deep plum/ruby/garnet-tinged 2003 Shiraz Command is slightly less nuanced than the 2002, it is just as powerful and full-bodied, offering copious quantities of fruit, glycerin, tannin, and muscle. This chewy, rich offering appears to be on a faster evolutionary track than its 2002 counterpart. Give it another 2-3 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 12-15.” -Wine Advocate 199814 Elderton Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa, Australia 1999 $86.67 |$70.20| 91RP 90ST 91JH The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits an enticing nose of cedar, spice box, black currant, and blackberry. The wine offers a delicious rich density, vigorous and fresh, with tannins somewhat more severe that the 2000. This is a great keeping wine, that is both ambitious and full.” -La Revue du Vin de France 190457 Chateau Teyssier, St Emilion, Bordeaux 2006 $70.75 |$57.25| 90RP “A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc that copes effortlessly with a weighty 14% of alcohol due to WS Wine Spectator | RP Robert Parker | ST Stepehn Tanzer | WE Wine Enthusiast | GVE Grandes Vinos de España | *D Estrellas Decanter GP Guía Peñín | W&S Wine & Spirits | TB Guía Tinto y Blanco | MH Miami Herald | CGC Connoisseurs Guide California | WN Wine News

the freshness of its crushed blackberry fruit and floral overtones. The wine is very elegant, with delicious pure grenadine on the palate, good concentration and fine tannins. Another example of why Teyssier is one of our best selling clarets.” “The 2006 (90), which I did not review in my report published in issue #181, is an outstanding success as well as a sleeper of the vintage. Its dark ruby color is accompanied by plenty of black fruit, licorice, earth, and spice characteristics. It should drink nicely for 8-10 years.“ -The Wine Advocate 190467 Chateau Teyssier Laforge St Emilion, Bordeaux, 2006 $128.75 |$104.25| 93RP 4/5*D “From the bottle, the 2006 Laforge, which was not included in the February report, was rated 93. A brilliant wine for the vintage, it possesses sweet tannins, abundant fruit, and remarkable concentration and intensity for this vintage.” -Robert Parker 193661 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru, Borgogne 2006 $181.33 |$146.88| 90WE “Drouhin has a special interest in Chambolle-Musigny, with vineyard holdings in both grands crus, Bonnes Mares and Musigny. This premier cru blend captures the sensual side of the appellation: it’s soft, lightly jammy, with ripe strawberry flavors and finishing with hints of tannin and acidity.” -Wine Enthusiast 660412 Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle Hermitage 2005 $584.67 |$473.58| 93WS 93WE 3ST Dark ruby, almost opaque. Assertively fragrant nose combines pungent violet- and lavender-accented cassis, blueberry, cherry pit and graphite. Spicy dark fruit and mineral flavors shows an impressive sweetness that carries into the solidly tannic and very long finish. This boasts great depth and chewy texture, but the dominating impression today is of rich, powerful fruit.” -Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar “A big step up from Jaboulet’s La Petite Chapelle, this is on a par with some of Jaboulet’s past efforts. It’s richly concentrated, yet nuanced, with notes of blood and mineral added to ripe cassis fruit and accented by hints of vanilla and spice. The tannins form an almost creamy texture in the mouth, and the finish lingers a good long time. Drink 2012–2025.” -Wine Enthusiast “Very juicy, with nice drive to the black currant and boysenberry fruit, which is pushed by dark plum sauce, black licorice and sweet toast notes. The long, fleshy finish shows the polished grip of the vintage. Best from 2010 through 2022. .” -Wine Spectator 662228 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2002 $150.00 |$121.50| #29/100WS MH “Number 29 of Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2004! This wine shows an incredible concentration of fruit, with loads of berries and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and lots of smoky character. Goes for a long time on the finish. Always a benchmark for the region. Best after 2005.” -Wine Spectator Deep saturated color, rich and hearty with black cherry, coffee and chocolate flavors, smooth, silky tannins, long finish. Highly recommended. Full-bodied and very jammy, yet there’s a good core of ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Slightly one-dimensional now; give it time.” -Wine Spectator 192104 Terrabianca Chianti Classico Scassino 2001 $46.33 |$37.53| 85WE 3*D “The estate’s more forward Chianti version, from 97% Sangiovese and 3% Canaiolo – that most classic of Classico formulas. The vineyard’s name comes from “scasso”, stony soil, which makes this terrain difficult to cultivate but fabulous in terms of fruit and concentration. This still backward wine is opaque purple in color with a brooding nose which reluctantly gives up notes of pain grille, smoke, earth, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding flavors, concentration, depth, and length, it remains tightly wound but all the components for further evolution are present. Although it can be enjoyed now, it will be at its best in another 4-6 years and continue to provide pleasure through 2030. Pesquera is Alejandro Fernandez’s flagship estate.” -Wine Advocate “Ruby-red. Strongly perfumed aromas of dark berries, cherry, flowers and spices, with a restrained oak element. Lush and broad, offering sweet kirsch and cassis flavors firmed by chunky tannins. Turns silkier on the long, velvety finish. This gained vibrancy with aeration and I suspect that it will be at least five more years before it really starts to show what it’s got.”

The wine was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in 500-liter French oak. It gives up a captivating bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, liquid mineral, incense, lavender, blueberry, and black cherry. Youthful, rich, and layered on the palate, this harmonious effort will age effortlessly for another 4-6 years. Drink it from 2014 to 2024. Laurona is run by the renowned Rene Barbier with importer Christopher Cannan as a partner in the venture. -Wine Advocate 192308 Huerta de Albala Taberner Tinto, Cádiz 2005 $87.33 |$70.74| 92RP “The 2005 Taberner exhibits an exceptional perfume of bacon, sausage, and blueberry pie. Full-bodied, with layers of spicy, fleshy fruit, this intensely flavored wine has the structure to evolve for several years and should drink well through 2020.” -Wine Advocate 414 Marqués de Murrieta Mazuelo, Rioja 2000 $127.33 |$103.14| 91RP “To celebrate the winery’s 150th anniversary, Murrieta produced 3,500 magnums of the 2000 Mazuelo (made from the grape of the same name). It spent 24 months aging, including 6 months in new American oak and 6 months in new French oak. It boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to sumptuous, concentrated fruit notes (blackberries, plums, and cherries) intermixed with notions of tar, earth, and spice box. This Pomerolstyled Rioja should drink well for 20+ years.” -Wine Advocate 196351 Roda I Reserva Rioja 2004 $142.75 |$115.75| 93GVE “Color guinda picota de gran intensidad, limpio y brillante. Nariz intensa, muy elegante, con fruta negra madura, sensaciones minerales y madera muy bien integrada. En boca, gran estructuta y buena acidez, con final largo que aún debe afinar los taninos. Es un vino redondo y muy elegante, con nítida expresión varietal. Vino de largo plazo. Se aconseja su decantación antes de su servicio a una temperatura oscilante entre los 61 y 63F. Buen acompañante de asados y guisos de caza.” -Grandes Vinos de España 666334 Roda Reserva Rioja 2004 $106.00 |$85.86| 94TB “Very open on the nose straight away, very complex with aromas of musky red cherry, tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, plum, anise, and coco with some violets, undergrowth and mocha coffee. Classic Roda in the mouth, abundant silky tannins that lend a great texture, backed up buy some driving acid leaving the sence of perfect balance. The palate needed a bit more air time to show its stuff, it starts off with some red cherry and currents, plum with some earthy minerals, then adds cinnamon, pepper and mocha with time. A fairly long finish that shows off those lovely tannins.” -Dave Worthington, Tinto y Blanco

Highly complex nose melds black raspberry, minerals, milk chocolate, tobacco, licorice and brown spices. Wonderfully silky, sweet and broad; quite primary for a young Dominus vintage but with subtle earth tones adding nuance. This has plenty of high-quality tannins but the wine’s buffering flesh gives it an impression of sweetness. One senses near-perfect ripeness here in the way the wine saturates the palate with flavor. Very suave and fine-grained wine that will almost certainly rank among the best half-dozen vintages of Dominus made to day. Incidentally, long-time winemaker Boris Champy has returned to his native France to make wine, and Ted Mostero, previously in charge of winemaking at Almaviva in Chile, is now in charge here.” -International Wine Cellars “The 2005 Dominus (a 7,000-case cuvee of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) has come of age, and is one of the strongest efforts they’ve made. It is possibly the best Dominus since the 2001, and perhaps even the 1997 or 1991. A beautiful, sweet nose of roasted coffee interwoven with kirsch, black currant, cedar, and spice box emerges from this deep ruby/purple-colored wine. The wine has fabulous intensity, a layered, opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, well-integrated acidity, and a stunningly long finish. The layering of this wine as it builds incrementally on the palate is something to behold. An outstanding, sexy, ageworthy Dominus, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and last for at least 25 or 30 years. The nose is dense and compact, filled with dark berries, blond tobacco, black cherries and cacao. The entry is both powerful and supple, spherical in quality. Perfectly ripe, the enveloped tannins are firm, round and elegant. Black fruit and licorice linger throughout the evolution in mouth, well-balanced and harmonious. A superb vintage. The 2005 blend consists of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. No Merlot was used in the blend this year. This wine clearly has tremendous aging potential. Deeply fruited and redolent of ripe currants, blackberries, briary spice and a wee bit of chocolate, Paraduxx once again strikes out on its own unique path and comes up something more than typical Zin. It is full and fleshy with fine balance and a bit of Cabernet grip, and its very deep, genuinely complex flavors are as long as they are impressively layered. It has a sense of refinement even if it is a touch tannic to finish, and there is no question but that it will improve for four or five years.” -92 points and two stars from the Connoisseurs’ Guide to california Wine “This year the blend is Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. As always, the wine is rich, complex, ageable, and unique among California reds. Zin brings its distinctly briary, wild berry taste to the pedigree of the Bordeaux varieties. The result is a balanced, elegant and refined wine that will stand five to eight years of age. A great accomplishment.” -Wine Enthusiast “Dense inky purple hue. Spicy scents of powdered chocolate, nuts and earth. Dusty entry with spicy terroir notes that showcase raspberry flavors and echoes of walnut and mocha from this unusual blend of zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Rich and coating on the close with ripe berries and oak-laced tannins. -Wine News WS Wine Spectator | RP Robert Parker | ST Stepehn Tanzer | WE Wine Enthusiast | GVE Grandes Vinos de España | *D Estrellas Decanter GP Guía Peñín | W&S Wine & Spirits | TB Guía Tinto y Blanco | MH Miami Herald | CGC Connoisseurs Guide California | WN Wine News

191032 Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel Sonoma Valley 2006 $96.67 |$78.30| 92WS 92CGC “This is what great Zinfandel is all about. Ripe but balanced with lively acidity, jammy but concentrated and well-structured. Offers fresh wild berry, raspberry, vanilla and cracked pepper notes, but with layers of intriguing sage, lively mineral and smoke accents. Drink now through 2014.” -Wine Spectator “Very much cast in the very ripe, very extracted manner that has come to be the Segehsio stamp, this dramatic wine offers up a broad sweep of blackberry fruit highlighted with suggestions of chocolate, sweet oak and jam. It is absolutely mouthfilling stuff, and it shows a slight trim of heat at the finish, but it is marked first and last by its very powerful fruit and will shine as a partner to savory pork roasts.” 92 points and two stars from the Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine 197108 Saintsbury Pinot Noir Carneros 2007 $81.50 |$66.00| 87WE “This is classic Carneros Pinot Noir - with boldness of fruit and an elegant structure. It comes from vineyards across the appellation, and it is aged in 100% French oak (30% new). Balanced, clean and approachable. A good, solid, everyday Pinot. Likeable for its dryness, crispness and silky texture. Shows adequate flavors of cherries herbs, cedar and spices. Drink now.” -Wine Enthusiast 191806 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2001 $115.33 |$93.42| 91ST “Good medium ruby. Smoky aromas of cassis, game and currant leaf. Very suave and fine in the mouth, with less obvious sweetness than the 2002 but perhaps more precision of flavor. Notes of currant, coffee, smoke and game linger impressively on the firm finish. Classy cabernet for the price.” -International Wine Cellar 193713 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec, Mendoza 2006 $34.75 |$28.25| 86WS “A textbook example of what good-value Malbec should offer: purity of fruit delivered in a pleasingly fresh style. A supremely easy drinking wine with brambly blackberries and spiced apple - not at all overshadowed by the 14,6% alcohol. Drink now.” -Decanter “...smoky, spicy 2007 Altos las Hormigas Malbec ($12) has surprising depth and savour.” -Bloomberg Markets 192657 Pulenta Estates Gran Corte Mendoza 2006 $113.00 |$91.53| 91WS “The 2006 Gran Corte is composed of 45% Malbec, 34%Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Tannat , and 3% PetitVerdot aged in French oak. Deep crimson-colored, it has a complex aromatic array of cedar, leather, spice box, mineral, black currant, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, firmly structured, and concentrated, it has outstanding depth, savory flavors, and a 45-second finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2021.” -Wine Spectator 191847 Grgich Hills Chardonnay, Napa Valley 2002 $100.67 |$81.54| 89ST “ Pale silver-yellow color. Waxy, nutty aromas of smoked meat, marzipan and vanillin oak. Rich, nutty and dense, with uncompromisingly dry but chewy flavors of peach, pear and hazelnut. Old-fashioned in a positive way. Very dry finishing flavors show very good texture and cling to the palate.” -Stephen Tanzer WS Wine Spectator | RP Robert Parker | ST Stepehn Tanzer | WE Wine Enthusiast | GVE Grandes Vinos de España | *D Estrellas Decanter GP Guía Peñín | W&S Wine & Spirits | TB Guía Tinto y Blanco | MH Miami Herald | CGC Connoisseurs Guide California | WN Wine News
