AUCTION CATALOG benefiting the MENDOCINO COAST DISTRICT HOSPITAL

WELCOME TO WINESONG 2015! We are grateful beyond measure to all of you who have been with us since 1984 – thank you so much for your continuing support. To those of you who have joined us along the way, we cherish your involvement and are gratified you are with us. The support from our Winesong friends means much to us and our community. We look forward to celebrating with you, and we hope you will join us in welcoming our firsttime guests and new friends who have never experienced Winesong before. For those of you coming for your first visit, welcome to the family—Winesong is a special time, a special place, and a special feeling. We are pleased and grateful you have chosen to join us in 2015, and we hope all of you will enjoy our beautiful Mendocino Coast day of good food, outstanding wines and lasting friendships. Winesong is above all a fundraiser produced by the Hospital Foundation to provide support for vital equipment and services at Mendocino Coast District Hospital. Our Foundation Board and staff have been planning for this day for a year and we are aided by a loyal corps of volunteers, some of whom you will see in the Gardens today. These volunteers, many of them Hospital employees and physicians, are part of the strong commitment this community has to our Hospital. Your generosity over the decades has funded equipment that is absolutely essential to the health of this community and its many visitors. Thanks to you, life-saving services are local and of the highest quality. Our community is a long distance from large city services, but we have cutting edge diagnostic imaging capability in our Hospital with laboratory, cardiology, and oncology services, among others—all local when other hospitals are more than an hour away. For those experiencing a life-threatening emergency, an hour literally can mean a lifetime. Along with our entire community, we thank you for your support and invite you to a joyous celebration of excellent food and wine. Enjoy the Day! Sincerely,

THE BOARD & STAFF of the MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

WITH DEEP GRATITUDE My 14 years at the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation have been a rewarding and wonderful experience. It has been more than just a job, I truly believe in our mission. Even as I begin a new chapter in my life, I will continue to focus my energies on supporting the Hospital Foundation and its support of the Mendocino Coast District Hospital. In addition to joining the Hospital Foundation Advisory Board, I plan to stay connected as one of the many volunteers. My life has been enriched through the beautiful friendships and relationships made along the way and I look forward to participating in our Winesong family reunion for years to come. The Mendocino Coast is still my home, MCDH is still my Hospital and the need for support is still great. It is with deep gratitude and respect that I raise a glass to toast our Winesong family. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness, dedication, and generosity. I am deeply grateful for your support and friendship. Winesong is family and family is forever! Sincerely,

FROM THE HOSPITAL On behalf of the Mendocino Coast District Hospital Board of Directors, employees, medical staff and volunteers, we are honored to have you as our guest! We welcome back our longtime supporters, and greet those of you visiting for the first time. While you enjoy the company of friends and the beauty of the gardens today, please know that the generous support you are providing ensures that our local hospital and medical services will continue to be available to everyone who lives, works, or vacations on the Mendocino Coast. These services are vital to our community since the next closest full service hospital is at least an hour away across winding roads! Winesong proceeds fund equipment that is absolutely essential to the health of this community. Your support last year provided funding for ventilators, portable x-ray and cardiology equipment. I am pleased to share some positive news and accomplishments from this past year: • MCDH

has begun the process of establishing a Vision to “be the best Critical Access Hospital” in California. A productive Strategic Planning Retreat brought together community stakeholders who discussed many facets of the District Hospital, and its success in the future.

• MCDH

has produced a three year capital budget that lists the needed equipment, building improvements, and I.T. infrastructure we need to be a success.

• Our

North Coast Family Health Center has welcomed additional providers including: Pain Management Specialists, new Mid-Level Registered Nurse Practitioners and a new Family Practice Physician.

As the MCDH CEO, I am eager to share my experience building strong teams and community support that led two of my past Critical Access Hospitals to top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the USA. We hope you enjoy the day’s activities knowing your generosity truly makes an enormous difference and is valued by those of us in the community. Thank you for being with us today.

THE WINESONG COMMUNITY AUCTION TEAM This year marked a significant change for Winesong. Back in February, a group of local business people, friends of the Hospital, members of the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation Board, and staff members gathered in the Wisteria Room at the Little River Inn. The purpose of this meeting was to embrace the task of creating a memorable and successful Winesong weekend that would not only benefit our precious Hospital, but also generate new ideas and approaches for Mendocino County’s most significant fundraiser. One goal was to refocus Winesong on its local community: The Mendocino wineries who support us so generously over the years; The welcoming hotels and inns that open their doors to our friends and guests; our first-class chefs, restaurants and food providers; our dazzling talent pool of amazing artists; our army of volunteers who work tirelessly; and our world-class brewery who is now taking a more active role despite the fact that our name is not “Brewsong”! At the same time, we all realize that we have an enormous debt of gratitude to our neighboring wineries throughout California. Also to our friends from across the country who travel to our stunning coastline every year to support our rural Hospital. Here we want to recognize this dedicated and hardworking group. From Mendocino: Allen Cherry Susan Cimmiyotti Patricia Jauregui-Darland John Dixon Jeanne Francis Linda Friedman Kathy Hughes Gwen Jacobson Charlene McAllister Sallie McConnell Julie Masterson Guy Pacurar Christy Rose Pauline Zamboni

And these special friends: Carol Batté Dan & Jett Gulbronsen Lowell & Janet Herrero DawnMarie Kotsonis Archie McLaren Monty & Sara Preiser George Rose Muriel Wilson

Forgive us if we have overlooked anyone, but know that your assistance was both valued and essential.

AUCTIONEER: DawnMarie Kotsonis DawnMarie Kotsonis ignites the auction stage with her passion and heartfelt commitment to the organizations she serves. As the Development Officer of a large Southern California hospital, she experienced first-hand the challenges of fundraising and, unknowingly, began the building blocks of her true calling. Her introduction to the world of charity auctions began in the 1980’s while running a successful commercial auction firm. She was asked to help raise funds on behalf of cystic fibrosis research and it was a very personal request. The disease claimed the lives of both her nephew and her best friend. It did not take long for her to realize that working on behalf of nonprofits was far more fulfilling than any commercial auction career would ever be. She also recognized that her background in Development gave her unique experience and insight into the world of fundraising. So she abandoned the commercial side and never looked back. Since then, DawnMarie has presided over countless record-breaking charity auctions nationwide including a number on the Wine Spectator’s Top 10. The dollars she has raised are in the tens of millions and the number grows every week. DawnMarie is based in Los Angeles and welcomes all inquiries. She is at www.gavelgirl.com.

WINESONG CELEBRATES FAMILY In 1985, a small group of dedicated volunteers with a vision and a couple of pick-up trucks put together the first Winesong. Our event poster was a hastily put together image of a corkscrew, and our invitation list was largely local. But word got out about this unique event here on our beautiful Mendocino coast and from those early days of sitting on hard metal chairs in the sun at the Dahlia Garden, we’ve evolved to the simple elegance of today. Through good and bad economic times, and from our humble beginnings, with the support of our family from near and far, we have been able to provide lifesaving equipment and services for our hospital that would otherwise have not been possible. We honor 31 years of Winesong family, it has been an incredible experience; made all the better by the continuing support of so many of you who have faithfully made the annual journey to join us. For those of you coming for the first time, we welcome you to our family and look forward to seeing you in the future. Along with our entire community, we thank you for your unwavering support. Today we celebrate you, our Winesong family!

One of his most endearing and enduring quotes is this: “If you cannot think of a reason to open a great bottle of bubbly every week, you need to reevaluate your life.” Inspired by David’s words, the Foundation and Hospital Boards of Directors, spearheaded by Charlene McAllister and Susan Warner, set out to gather a year’s worth of bubbly from North County’s finest producers. It was arduous work, but they succeeded with a total of 52 dazzling bottles (with 2 extra for those special occasions). To showcase a portion of this collection is a handcrafted six-bottle wine display box featuring the work of local artist Suzi Long and inspired by David’s words.

LOT 4

2005 Chateau Leoville Barton - Grand Cru St. Julien, Double Magnum Here is a rare double magnum of the legendary 2005 Chateau Leoville Barton.
This Chateau bears the name of one of the most prominent families in the Bordeaux wine trade. The owners have Irish roots, but the Bartons know wine, and have stamped their name all over the Medoc, from Chateau Langoa-Barton to Leoville Barton to Barton & Guestier, their merchant business. In fact, Chateau Leoville-Barton has the Bordeaux record for continuous ownership by a single family—180 years! Grapes from the 47-hectare vineyard are vinified in the cuvee of neighboring Chateau Langoa-Barton. Both are managed by Anthony Barton, the most recent in a long line of Irishmen who have directed the family wine business. The 2005 was highly regarded by the leading wine critics: 96 points Wine Spectator
Delivers breathtaking aromas of blackberry, currant, licorice and flowers. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and super-silky tannins. Dark chocolate, currant, berry and licorice follow through. This is racy and beautiful. Best after 2015. 94 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “Another prodigious offering from the affable Anthony Barton, the inky/blue/blackhued 2005 Leoville Barton exhibits a sensational perfume of charcoal, burning embers, underbrush, cedar, creme de cassis, and subtle toasty oak. Painfully concentrated (much like the 2000 was at the same stage), with full body, admirable purity, and several boatloads of muscular tannin, this St. Julien is built for 50-60 years of cellaring. Its purity and precision are typical of today’s winemaking, but Barton is certainly not making a wine for near-term gratification. This is another 2005 that will require enormous patience. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2065.” 94 points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar “Wonderfully perfumed nose offers cassis, minerals, tobacco, flowers, mocha and truffle. Bright, mineral-driven and concentrated, with terrific underlying backbone giving energy and definition to the dark berry, mineral and chocolate flavors. There’s a floral lift here that’s exhilarating to find in the very ripe 2005 vintage. Finishes very long and classy, with a firm tannic spine. An outstanding vintage for this wine.”

The 1982 Delamain Grande Champagne Cognac was bottled in 2009 after spending nearly 30 years in oak. As Narsai explains, “Darrell Corti (the noted Sacramento wine merchant) and I bought a single barrel in Bristol and had it bottled. No caramel or anything else was added; the Cognac was filtered, then brought down to proof with distilled water. It is my favorite Cognac.” A Baccarat Louis XIII crystal decanter accompanies this rare bottle from Narsai and Veni’s private collection…and, yes, it may have contained a drop or two!

Arietta Wines is a small Napa Valley winery owned by Fritz and Caren Hatton that focuses production on site-specific, Bordeaux-inspired blends. The 1996 and 1997 Arietta Napa Valley Red Wine, from Arietta’s debut and second vintage, respectively, were made by noted Napa Valley Winemaker John Kongsgaard. Blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from the Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, both offer refined fruit and complexity, together with elegant structure.

Once again the Schmelzer Family looks forward to welcoming four couples to their beautiful hilltop estate. For one luxurious week, their villa is your villa. The Thirteenth century villa is in the traditional rustic Tuscan style with stone exterior, wood-beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled floors. Newly renovated, it features large windows that invite the same Tuscan light that attracted Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo to the region. Other amenities include a gourmet kitchen/dining room, spacious living room, fully equipped gym and five bedrooms and five bathrooms (three of which are en suite). Several terraces provide their own magnificent views of the Concha d’Oro, home to the prime vineyards surrounding the property. Enjoy the villa’s swimming pool and beautiful pergola, where you and your guests will relax in a tranquil atmosphere with an appetizer and glass of wine. To make your stay memorable, the Schmelzer family creates the ultimate experience for wine and food lovers, beginning with a tour of their winery and vineyard, followed by a reception with brother and sister, Michael (the winemaker) and Jennifer Schmelzer who will serve as your personal concierge for the week. They will arrange for a tour and tasting at the Corzano e Paterno, a small family winery dedicated to the production of the finest quality wine, olive oil and sheep cheeses. Another must is a tour with Castellina’s elusive Salami maker as well as lunch at Dario Cecchinis, Italy’s world-renowned butcher. Jennifer suggested we include two meals prepared by Rosanna Scortichini, a ‘casalinga’ which literally means housewife. She is, among other things, a lovely Italian mother, who with her warmth and generosity aims to please. Who wouldn’t enjoy a meal with her- in Italy, no one’s cooking is as good as mom’s!

The Villa is ideally located for many day tour choices. Among local options are visits to the Tuscan city of Siena and its ninth century cathedral, the winery at Castello di Ama, the winery and olive oil producer, Castello di Volpaa, or a guided tour on or off the beaten path exploring the old quarters of Florence, where artisans practice ancient techniques using gold, silver, paper and wood.

LOT 9

This Lot Includes:

2012 Grace Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Etched and Hand-Painted, Double Magnum 2012 Grace Family Vineyards Blank Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Etched and Hand-Painted, Double Magnum When Dick and Ann Grace released the 1983 Grace Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, the first vintage from their 1.8-acre Napa Valley vineyard to be bottled under their own label, it was a gamble; no vintner in California to that point had produced an extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon in miniscule quantities and become successful. Two years later, the 1985 Grace Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon received 96 points from The Wine Advocate and overwhelming demand for the tiny production soon caused the Graces to limit sales primarily to their mailing list, a tradition that continues today. Dick and Ann Grace also donate bottles to charities, their way of using wine “as a catalyst for healing our planet.” These two rare double magnums of Grace Family Vineyards come from the outstanding 2012 vintage. The 2012 Grace Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, from north of St. Helena, marries generous red currant and black cherry fruit, herb and leather complexity, silky texture and elegant structure. The 2012 Grace Family Vineyards Blank Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, from Alan and Chotsie Blank’s 1.8-acre vineyard on the eastern edge of Rutherford, showcases cherry and cassis fruit, eucalyptus and cedar nuances, and fine structure and balance. The big bottles are as remarkable as the wines within; each bears a handsomely etched and handpainted rendition of its respective label.

In some years (1961, 1966, and 1983) both critics and connoisseurs agree that Palmer is as good as any wine in Bordeaux. Robert Parker awarded the 1983 vintage 98 points and called it “a candidate for wine of the vintage.” The 1989 was also rated as a superstar of that vintage.

Palmer’s relatively high Merlot content makes Palmer the closest in style of any leading Médoc properties to the great wines of Pomerol and St-Emilion.

The high bidder and guests will enjoy accommodations for three nights at the Albion Schoolhouse, one of Mendocino’s most unique and coveted vacation rentals. In the best vintages, it is a richly textured, elegant and even flamboyant wine with ample ripe berry, truffle, mocha, spice, plum and tobacco notes. The silky, textured finish is a hedonistic treat, according to the critics. The wines have the ability to age and evolve as well. La Dominique is situated between the border of Pomerol (to its north) and Cheval Blanc on the other side. Clément Fayat, the current owner, purchased the 22-hectare estate in 1969 and, since then, has been lavishing considerable money and time on its restoration. This is always a particularly voluptuous St. Emilion with a deep color, a trademark of blackberries and vanilla nose and a sweet, velvety ripeness on the palate. The 1982 is outliving most of its neighbors, and the Chateau excelled in both 1989 and 1990. Robert Parker’s favorite vintage is the 2000, which he describes “is even better than the superb 1998.” The Bordeaux vineyard of Chateau Talbot occupies 102 hectares of vines in the Medoc in the St. Julien appellation. The terroir of Chateau Talbot is mostly gravel based soils and is planted to 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
The 1982, “a magnificent wine...that is a treat for both the intellectual and hedonistic senses” was a 95 point Parker wine. The 1983 was singled out as “one of the best wines of the vintage.”

All that glitters isn’t just gold – it’s also semi-precious stones and diamonds! Put into the hands of a true artisan like Elliott Dennett of Old Gold Jewelry, these precious gems and metals become a timeless keepsake for the ages. These exquisite earrings made of rare Peridot gems and Diamonds were created exclusively for Winesong. Master jeweler Elliott Dennett hand crafted these dazzling drop earrings with a double row of 18k white gold pave set diamonds – 49 in total – surrounding large pear shaped Peridots. They are the epitome of understated elegance. Radiating grace and style, these one-of-a-kind earrings are absolutely stunning. The Peridot has made a comeback of sorts in the jewelry industry; and while still considered rare, Peridot is the official birthstone for the month of August. Peridot dates back to ancient Egypt and was considered to bring luck, peace and prosperity to the wearer. Because the radiant green shine of this gemstone doesn’t change even in artificial light, it has been dubbed the “emerald of the evening.” Add these resplendent, heirloom quality earrings to your jewelry collection – they’re destined to be cherished and appreciated for generations. Elliott Dennett is a second-generation jeweler. His parents – Jim and Cheryl Dennett – opened Old Gold in Mendocino the year before Elliott was born. He developed his fine eye for gems and jewelry design through a lifetime of helping out in the store, attending trade shows and shopping with his mother. A graduate of the Gemologist and Jewelers programs at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, he continues to enhance his skills by attending workshops led by master jewelers across the country.

LOT 29

This Lot Includes:

1991 Opus One Red Wine, Napa Valley, Magnum 2001 Opus One Red Wine, Napa Valley, (750) 2004 Opus One Red Wine, Napa Valley, (750) Opus One represents one of the most celebrated international winemaking ventures in history. A joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the goal was to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine with classic Napa Valley fruit character and classic Bordeaux complexity. Opus One has achieved that goal, producing wines that have gained both high praise and high demand. Today Opus One has vineyards and a state-of-the-art winery in Oakville, and is considered one of the Napa Valley’s signature wines. Three vintages of Opus One comprise this Magnum Opus lot. The 1991 Opus One Napa Valley Red Wine – offered here in magnum - earned 92 points from The Wine Advocate, along with the description, “Gorgeously rich.” It is signed by both Robert Mondavi and Baron Phillipe de Rochschild. The 2001 Opus One Napa Valley Red Wine received only 90 points from The Wine Advocate (who must have had an off day, as the wine deserves a higher rating) and the comments “Reveals a classic, French-like style, with notes of cedar wood, melted licorice, black currants, roasted herbs and tobacco leaf…an outstanding effort.” The exceptional 2004 Opus One Napa Valley Red Wine was rated 96 points by The Wine Advocate, who called it “Full-bodied, opulent.”

WINESONG FUND-A-NEED A Medication Safety Net

LOT

31

Giving a patient his or her medication seems simple enough. Swallow this pill, drink that fluid and you’re done. But in today’s medical world checks and balances need to be in place to assure medication is dispensed properly. Medication use in hospitals is highly complex and often involves many distinct steps not to mention working with an inventory of thousands of options and look-alike/sound-alike medication names.

2015

The Bedside Medication Verification System is the point-of-care process that allows medical staff to electronically match a drug to patient information. By scanning bar codes on medications, patient wristbands, and staff ID badges we assure that the right medicine is being delivered in the right dosage, to the right patient, at the right time.

LIVE AUCTION

Bar-code scanning is to medication safety what wearing seatbelts is to automobile safety. It is not the only thing, but it is a significant thing.

FUND-A-NEED

The Mendocino Coast District Hospital remains committed to patient safety and quality and continuously strives to improve how we care for our patients and their families. The Bedside Medication Verification technology we will enable us to double check patient medication and help solidify our commitment to ensuring our patients receive the best and most advanced care possible. In support of this effort, we ask for your help with building the Medication Safety Net.

For years caregivers providing bedside care have served as the last line of defense against medication errors. Equipping our medical staff with the Bedside Medication Verification System provides a state-of-the-art tool for patient care and helps assure the “5 Rs” of medication delivery: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Dosage, Right Route, and Right Time.

Filling the 6L is Panthea Winery’s award-winning 2012 Pinot Noir. It received the John A. Parducci award for “Best of Show, Red” in the 2015 competition at the 37th Annual Mendocino County Fair Wine Competition in August. While a serious, committed affair, Panthea Winery and Vineyard is not your typical winery operation. There is no front office. There is no year-round staff. But each fall when the harvest bell rings, friends and family converge to see it through with fun, jubilation and vintner Kelly Boss’s guiding vision. It is a decided old world effort of hard work and love.

Artist Erin Dertner contributes ‘Misty Harbor’ a stunning hand-painted 6L bottle with a familiar Mendocino fishing boat scene beautifully rendered. Painting, studying and teaching the subject of light are Erin’s driving forces. The cool shadows of the early morning and those that fall long and warm in the evening enliven her creative soul as nothing else.

Most importantly, both produce truly impressive red wines. Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle formed Dalla Valle in 1982. The Dalla Valle family has a long history of making wine in their native country Italy. The Napa wine made its official debut in 1986, the same year they built the winery. Located on a plateau in Oakville, their 21 acres of vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc on rocky, volcanic soils off the Silverado Trail. Their terroir consists of red stony soils with loam and clay.

They produce two main wines, Cabernet Sauvignon and a proprietary blend of approximately 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon called Maya, which made its debut in 1989 and is named for Gustav and Naoko’s daughter. Since 1998, Naoko has been in charge of all winery operations. Mailing list clients as well as a few select restaurants quickly snap up the 3,000 cases produced annually.

A key figure from another legendary Rhone Valley family, André Brunel is the third generation to manage Domaine Les Cailloux, named after the cailloux roulés, the large stones found littered all over the Chateauneuf du Pape. The Brunel family has been in the area since the 1700s. Their vineyards occupy 17.3 hectares. Some of their vines are close to 120 years old. The Les Cailloux standard Chateauneuf du Pape is usually a combination of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah and 3% of different grape varieties.

“One cannot think of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most celebrated cru of the Southern Rhone,” says Kermit Lynch, the celebrated wine importer, without thinking of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. “The Brunier family is legendary in its own right, having been rooted to the enigmatic plateau known as ‘La Crau’ for over one hundred years. The wines of Vieux Télégraphe are classics, displaying strength, rusticity, earthiness, and tremendous longevity. The old vines of La Crau are all used for the final assemblage. For many, La Crau is Châteauneuf-du- Pape’s grandest cru.” The 1995 was a favorite of The Wine Spectator which rated it 95 points. “This offers the classic profile of Châteauneuf, with complexity and length bred by world class terroir. Drink now through 2020.” Robert Parker describes the 2007, as “A brilliant effort from brothers Frederic and Daniel Brunier that earned 96 points.” And it was also #3 on the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2009.

“Beach Cabanas” giclée, signed by artist Lowell Herrero, 48” by 36”, framed Lowell’s “Beach Cabanas” transports the viewer into a fresh new seaside world filled with color, charm, and serenity. What home would not be more inviting or beautiful with this image? What demanding day at the office would not be soothed by a glance up from a computer to this scene? Artist Lowell Herrero’s passion for life is reflected in his evocative art. After a successful career in graphic design, he began painting in 1966, and soon garnered success for his images of cats and cows. A move to the Napa Valley in 2001 inspired paintings that celebrate nature’s beauty and abundance. His vivid, stylized rural landscapes also celebrate those who work the land. Now he continues to find new inspiration for his singular artistic vision; recent paintings depict traditional beach holiday scenes with inimitable Herrero flair. Among his recent paintings is “Beach Cabanas.” Quiet yet powerful, “Beach Cabanas” portrays a colorful row of cabanas along a boardwalk, with the beach and ocean in the background. The work is offered here in a 48 by 36-inch limited edition giclée on canvas, personally signed by artist Lowell Herrero and handsomely framed.

The broker Guillaume Lawton noted as early as 1815 that “it is very robust, with a fine colour, and quite pronounced sappiness.” In 1962, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired the property from the Castéja family. ‘It would have been nonsense not to acquire such a great neighbouring vineyard,” remarked Baron Eric de Rothschild.
Since the acquisition by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the vineyards have been totally overhauled and the chais renovated. It has been a remarkable 40-year effort to reclaim the Médoc 4th growth wine ranking for Château Duhart-Milon. All wines offered today by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) are made with high standards delivering wines of elegance and finesse in the tradition of the great Bordeaux house, Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. This Chateau’s reputation has soared recently with the 2009 (97 points) and 2010 (96 points) vintages. This lot includes the best vintages over four decades.

Winemaker Victor Simon is smitten with Sangiovese. “I’ve been playing with Italian varietals for years,” he explains. Sangiovese has a lot of acidity and needs to get ripe and then slowly ferment to balance the fruit and the acid.” His 2010 Sangiovese Venturi (Awarded a gold medal winner at the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition) is organically grown, 100% varietal, single vineyard, dry farmed, aged 18 months in French Oak, and perfectly balanced.

Anyone who knows Kathy also knows that she loves to party. In celebration of Kathy’s spirit, we include this beautiful bottle painted by Serafina Andrews aptly named “Ole’ California.” Serafina is truly a Renaissance woman. She has explored the beauty of the human form in figure drawing which led to the journey beyond words where the lines continue to dance before her on paper. Early in her life she was a concert ballerina and classical Spanish dancer, touring internationally. Following study at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles her art career has led to presenting art seminars in Europe.

While developing estate vineyards, Breggo produced exciting singlevineyard Pinot Noirs from several of Anderson Valley’s finest vineyards: Savoy Vineyard northwest of Philo, Ferrington Vineyard in the hills north of Boonville and Donnelly Creek Vineyard east of Boonville. It also blended wines from various sites to produce Anderson Valley appellation Pinot Noirs. In 2009 the Stewarts sold the brand to Lede Family Wines, which continued to produce single-vineyard and Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs under the Breggo label until 2013. This impressive collection of Breggo Pinot Noir showcases deft winemaking, Anderson Valley character, and the distinctive nuances of individual vineyards and vintages. presents

S AT U R D AY . S E P T E M B E R 1 2 T H WELCOME TO WINESONG 2015 Each and every year, we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to see familiar faces and meet new friends who join us in support of Winesong – an amazing Charity Auction and Grand Tasting. It’s a day spent savoring exquisite wines, sampling food from true culinary artisans, and enjoying stunning scenery; and it culminates in our Silent and Live Auctions. This year, a special group of people came together to form our Auction Procurement Team with the help of Colleen Buckley-Reynolds. Made up of locals and those who have been longtime friends of Winesong, they have invested their time, energy, and talents in graciously creating and procuring new and distinctive auction lots. We hope you are as delighted bidding on our auctions lots as we are in providing them to you! Thank YOU for making a difference! Wishing you a day of successful bidding! A heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who selflessly support the Hospital Foundation in making Winesong a rousing success! S AVE THE DATE FOR NE X T YE AR’S WINE SON G W EEK EN D
