December Must-See Programs Saving the Titanic
Thursday, December 11, 8pm
We all know about the many deaths in the icy waters, the fates of the rich and famous on the ship’s maiden voyage and the dramas that played out in the Titanic’s last hours. What is less known is how shipbuilders and engineers attempted to save the stricken vessel. Based upon eyewitness accounts, this is the story of nine members of the engineering crew as they work among the coal-fired furnaces heating the boilers to satisfy the ship’s demand for electricity.
Downton Abbey: Season II Marathon Sunday, December 16, Starting at 5pm
PART ONE: Two years into World War I, Downton Abbey is in turmoil. While the men go to war, the women also pitch in, and many couples see their romantic dreams dashed.
PART TWO: Downton is turned into a convalescent home with Thomas in charge. Lavinia and Sir Richard’s secret comes out.
PART THREE: Isobel and Cora lock horns over control of Downton’s medical role. Mrs. Bird starts a soup kitchen. And Matthew and William embark on a perilous patrol behind German lines.
PART FOUR: In the climactic battle of the war, Matthew and William go over the top to an uncertain fate. Vera plays a cruel endgame with Bates and Anna.
PART FIVE: As the war nears its end, Downton’s aristocrats and servants put their lives back together. A mysterious wounded officer makes a shocking revelation.
The National Christmas Tree Lighting 2012 Thursday, December 20, 9pm
Celebrating its 90th year, the lighting of the National Christmas Tree signals the start of the holiday season across the country. Taped at President’s Park in Washington, D.C., the 60-minute special will feature performances and readings by top musical artists and actors. The evening’s festivities will be capped off by the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree by a very special guest!

In May 2009, three fresh-faced teenagers appeared on a popular Italian talent show and dazzled television viewers with their flawless rendition of the Neapolitan standard “O Sole Mio.” The Italian teen vocal group took the audience by storm singing classical and traditional Italian songs that showcased their vocal talent as well as their interpretive gifts for music.
