WIPB Announces Local Winners of PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest
T
he results are in! WIPB is happy to announce the local winners of the 2013 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. The first place winners in grades K-3 will advance to the national contest. More than 140 creative entries were received by local children and 12 winners were chosen for first place, second place and third place recognitions. The annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is a national initiative designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The Contest is made possible in part by financial support from Easy Student Publishing. It encourages children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity by submitting their own original stories and illustrations. “This annual competition is an extension of WIPB’s commitment to promoting literacy in the communities we serve. We’re thrilled that after so many years it’s such a popular contest. ” said Lori Georgi, educational outreach manager. All first place winners will advance to the national contest where a panel of
esteemed judges will rank the top 12 finalists. National winners will be announced during the summer of 2013 and winning stories will be featured on pbskids.org/ writerscontest. ountry music holds a distinctive
place for the dynamic duo of Bret and Michelle (Belle) Cook. And dynamic they are. With 15 years spent touring this United States and performing with some of the most prominent names in the industry, this power couple demonstrates their talents reach far beyond the stage. Witness them take the screen as hosts of WIPB’s newest series, Cook & Belle’s Playhouse premiering July 11 at 9pm. “This new show aligns perfectly with our mission to entertain and engage the communities we serve through distinctive television programming,” said Alice Van Dyke, general manager. Cook & Belle’s Playhouse replaces a viewer favorite, Country Hit Videos which aired for 20 years on WIPB. Cook and Belle have teamed up with our crew to bring viewers a more intimate look into the lives and art of talented artists who hold a connection to Central Indiana. “There is fantastic talent here in Indiana and this show is the perfect way to showcase it,” said Bill Bryant, production manager. Taped from the comfort of a Muncie home, the show currently features four artists, Carl Storie, Seth Cook, Sarah Scarborough and Danny Frazier.
They exemplify the talented, passionate and community oriented individuals we at WIPB love to celebrate. Bret and Michelle’s upbeat, fun-loving style and the exclusive musical performances are what makes this show one you do not want to miss. Join us in welcoming Cook and Belle and their musical guests to the WIPB family and get ready to rock!
