A very warm welcome to Sloane Square and the surrounding areas from all of us at Hamptons.

You will be moving into one of the most highly regarded areas in London. Desirable homes, tree lined avenues, diverse shops and restaurants and an eclectic, vibrant population.

Hamptons has been matching people with property that’s right for them, locally, nationally and internationally, since 1869. We were pioneers, setting standards that few of our rivals could match and this hasn’t changed since.

Today, 150 years after we first set up home in Pall Mall, with 15 decades of finding property and looking after people under our belt, our clients now consider us to be their, ‘home experts’.

Yours sincerely,

The Sloane Square Team

Interview with Metro Storage

Find out more about Metro Storage – one of the biggest providers of self-storage in Central London – who like to consider themselves your spare room on your doorstep!

Why should people choose a storage provider?

Self-storage is an easy and convenient way to store your belongings especially if you’re moving house and have a gap between your last property and the next. Storage can also be ideal if you’re looking to redecorate after you’ve moved house and need to create some room.

At Metro Storage we offer a range of unit sizes so you can find one that works for you. Our extensive opening times mean you can visit at a time that suits you and our flexible terms allow you to extend or end your storage when you need to without incurring unnecessary fees.

What would you say to someone who is hesitant to use a storage facility?

Try a viewing and ask as many questions as you can whilst you’re there. Self-Storage is still relatively misunderstood but booking a viewing and seeing the storage space for yourself can help to overcome this.

At Metro Storage we offer a personal customer service assistant that will be able to help you every step of the way should you have any questions. There is also a wealth of information and videos on our website that will help to explain how storage works.

With us you only pay for the days that you use. If you decide you’re not happy after 14 days we’ll refund for any days that you haven’t used, so why not give it a try?

Who or what have been your major influences and role models?

We first saw the self-storage concept in Manhattan, New York, USA. A company called The Manhattan Mini-Storage company used to have a near monopoly in the city back in the mid-to-late 90’s. We were heavily involved in the Central London parking market at the time, having at one time 13 car parks in Chelsea and the West End, but the Congestion Charge was just around the corner and we knew we needed to diversify quickly. Self-storage seemed the perfect partner business – ultimately taking a large area, splitting it into smaller segments and renting these out – either for customer’s cars or belongings.

Once we decided to get seriously involved in the industry, we worked very closely with a number of key suppliers, but soon settled on working with Mark and Andrew at Active Supply & Design. Both were

great to work with. They were very knowledgeable, happy to share their knowledge and good people!

Is there a project that you are most proud of?

Our first will always stand out in my mind. I was in my late 20’s, had just secured a long lease on a 30,000 sq.ft. warehouse next door to the Oval cricket ground in Kennington, London. And when we got the keys and walked around this massive three storey warehouse, we were a little ‘nervous’ about how on earth we were going to fill it!

We had some prior knowledge of the self-storage industry – having put storage units in all the nooks and crannies where we couldn’t park cars in our car parks in Chelsea and the West End. They had filled and thankfully stayed full.

However, we were about to embark on a much bigger project, so there was a certain amount of ‘learning on the job’. One of the best ideas we had was to do the fit out floor by floor, learning as we went. By the time we got to the top floor, we had just about figured it out!

What would a typical storage package look likeend to end?

At Metro Storage, we like to include everything in one, simple price. That’s why we include the storage fee, VAT and FREE INSURANCE in our already competitive prices. There are no admin or sign up fees or compulsory extras for insurance. We even provide the use of a free padlock while you store with us, and there is free customer WiFi in all our stores. We can even organise free 24 hour access at some of our stores, but we do ask customers who want this extra free service to undergo further online security checks.

We have excellent value ‘move in bundles’ to help customers make the most of their storage – from basic packaging supplies, to a complete service that includes Man and Van and even a packing service.

Customers can sort out extra insurance with us if they need it over and above our free included cover. We can also provide all the packaging supplies you need – either in store or delivered to your door.

All this is managed by your own Storage Personal Assistant - Our aim is to make the whole selfstorage experience as smooth as possible, every time.

A little bit of history

Sloane Square was originally called Hans Town and was laid out in 1771 to a plan by Henry Holland and his son; it was named after Sir Hans Sloane, who owned the land at the time. The square is home to several landmark buildings, including the Peter Jones department store, the Royal Court Theatre and Cadogan Hall. The centre of Sloane Square is where you’ll find the Grade II-listed fountain called the Venus Fountain, an impressive landmark built back in 1953 by Gilbert Ledward.

Why move to Sloane Square?

The area is a hive of activity all year round and it becomes especially popular during December, with people flocking to shop and see the Christmas lights. There is a wide variety of architecture and demand for property around Sloane Square is extremely high - therefore properties on the market don’t tend to be around for long! Potential buyers and renters are attracted to the excellent shopping, the superb nightlife on the doorstep and the cultural attractions in the local area. It is well served for public transport with Sloane Square Underground tube station being on both the District and Circle lines, plus there are a wide variety of bus routes providing connections all around central London.

Around Sloane Square, there are a huge variety of international shops, bars and restaurants, whilst you have the world-famous Saatchi Gallery and Royal Court Theatre on your doorstep.

Ready to create the life you dream of upon waking?

INTERESTING COMMISSIONS

Commissions of interest are those requiring Full Refurbishments with Clients who trust deferring to us during the Design and Refurbishment Phases, and appreciate the value of creative design.

WHY US?

Our extensive experience in Central London Refurbishment gave us a broad understanding of Refurbishment, Construction and Planning Regulations. We have secured a multitude of successful Planning and Listed Building Consents for almost each of our project the vast majority of which are in RBKC.

Unlike some other Architects/designers, our approach to projects is not limited to Design and Creativity but also to Practicality and Cost Effectiveness.

We also believe that regular Site Inspection is extremely essential. To this, we carry out between 2 to 3 inspection visits per week as opposed to the guidance of the RIBA Architects Appointment Agreement which states a minimum of 1 visit per month.

We are also very flexible in our availability for Clients accommodating their work schedule to meet them after work hours and on weekends when necessary.

We know Kensington and Chelsea like the palm of our hand. We both lived in the borough for over 25 years and our offices are very local. When our projects are in close proximity to our offices, it makes for quicker Site Inspection, as well as Client Meetings.

Interview with Kido School

Tell us a little of the history of your nursery Kido is by parents, for parents - we are owned and operated by a group of parents from all over the world. We were set up in response to our founders’ struggles as young parents in different countries searching for high quality early years education. Since our first nursery school opened in 2014 we have been obsessed with two things: improving learning outcomes for children, and our service to parents.

What would you say is special about Kido

There are many special elements to Kido that we are very proud of. Our international early years curriculum makes Kido settings truly unique. Children benefit from the best of curriculums drawn together from all over the world. Including extra curricular elements such as Spanish and French, dedicated STEM classes, Kido Explorer Days - a project based learning experience, along with an international Zoom club to share cultural experiences and celebrations across three continents.

Are there any facilities you are particularly proud of?

We take a great deal of time and effort to plan and create classroom environments that support children’s learning. We believe children learn best in natural environments that are calming

and allow children to focus on the activities and experiences available to them. We ensure our indoor and outdoor play areas give children a space where they can run, jump, climb and fulfill all of their developing physical needs. Our nurseries are equipped with natural wooden toys and furniture which echoes our commitment to sustainability and reflects on our Reggio Emilia and Montessori inspired curriculum. We work with various suppliers globally to ensure the children have toys and equipment to aid their natural exploration of the wonderful topics on offer in each classroom. This means you’ll find STEM laboratories in our settings, complete with lab coats and safety glasses, we have home corners that reflect different cultures through the clothing, books and food on offer, and you’ll always find a wonderfully presented, clean and welcoming nursery at any Kido threshold you cross.

Kido’s school readiness program is run each year for our cohort of school leavers. We cover all of the required academic topics, Maths, Phonics, Reading and Literacy while also incorporating a huge focus on our children’s personal, social and emotional wellbeing and development. We want to ensure everyone leaves Kido with the utmost confidence and enthusiasm to embark on school. We are very proud that all children across Kido are accepted into their families school of choice.

What makes you different to any other setting

We believe that our Kido teachers are what make our settings different from others. We are very passionate about our commitment to professional development for all of our teachers.

We have our own, inhouse dedicated training team that works closely with each nursery to ensure high quality experiences for all. Teachers in early years have a huge impact on children’s first learning experiences and we take our responsibility of supporting our educators to be the very best that they can be very seriously. We set out to provide each child with a lifelong love of learning and a wonderful experience in their first educational setting, this wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic teams of teachers.

Eaton House School

Eaton House School was founded in 1897 and it is with great pride that I carry on this wonderful traditional education more than 120 years later. Whilst the school has expanded across two sites in Clapham and Belgravia, and the education has become more rounded, interactive and high tech over the years, the fundamental core ethos remains the same. We aim to provide a first-class education, striving for excellence in all academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, giving every child the confidence to discover where their gifts lie and to enjoy their talents. Wellbeing is at the core of everything we do. We are non-selective at our 3+ and 4+ entry points, because we believe that children develop emotionally and academically at different paces and without the pressures of early exams. Planning and Building Control

Unsure which services you need?

If you are thinking of making changes to your property, you may need to apply for planning permission and / or Building Regulations approval. If you’re not sure which applications to make, please use the guidance below to help you to decide what you need to do.

Please note that many developments will require both.

What is planning?

Planning is the process of deciding whether a proposed development should go ahead or not. It uses national and local policies to consider the development in its context and may look at the impact of the work on neighbours and the wider community, existing architecture, the land, the layout, and existing or proposed infrastructure (such as drains, transport and schools).

You will probably need planning permission if your proposed development will do any of the following:

• create a new building, or change the use or appearance of an existing building

• affect the sunlight, privacy or outlook for neighbouring properties

• affect the nearby area with noise disturbance, smell or fumes

• work on or around listed buildings or any conservation areas

• affect traffic volumes, road safety or access

• change the density of development in an area

• use significantly different materials or finishes from nearby properties

• have an effect on existing trees

What is building control?

Building control applies national statutory regulations to ensure the structural quality of any building work, in areas such as safety, public health, accessibility, and the materials used. Most substantial building projects (such as an extension, knocking down walls or converting a garage or loft) will need Building Regulations approval.
