Think critically and

LEAP into learning LEAP (Learning by Exploration and Active Participation) is our own unique and powerful learning tool that puts our learning-by-doing philosophy into action on every program. In practice, LEAP translates into hands-on activities and personal reflection prompts. Through LEAP activities, our students participate in live history debates, dramatic skits, dance classes, and much more: a revolutionary role-play in Spain, a handpainted masterpiece, a local cooking class with friends.

4

Three college credits included with every trip Our accreditation enables us to offer eligible students the opportunity to earn free elective high school credit. Plus, through our partnership with George Mason University, eligible students can earn three college credits upon successful completion of both their travel program and online coursework.

Connecting travel experiences to the classroom

Curriculum & Academics Education is at the heart of every WorldStrides program, and no group knows this better than our experienced crew of academic professionals. From designing WorldStrides’ coursework for students to delivering thought-provoking workshops for teachers (and much, much more), our Curriculum and Academics team stands at the intersection of travel and learning, guiding student travelers toward scholarship, personal growth, and new areas of discovery.

Free academic credit

College credit

All students are eligible to earn free high school credit for their participation on a WorldStrides travel program by completing an online course like Global Perspectives, Leadership and Character, or Environmental Studies. Our Curriculum and Academics team does more than just grade these assignments—they share substantive feedback and encourage exposition, allowing each student to revise and resubmit their work until they reach breakthroughs in personal academic pride.

WorldStrides travelers can turn their program experience into a benefit that stays with them long after they’ve returned home by completing our college coursework, an achievement that distinguishes them as online learners and gives them a jump-start on their path to a successful higher education experience.

“Transformative travel experiences are most powerful when paired with true educational engagement for every learner.” Kiersten Teitelbaum, WorldStrides Director of Curriculum and Academics

Experience the

Heart of the action We put the most committed, expert team behind every trip, and it shows in the cultural quality your students will feel: Where you stay. What you eat. How you get around—and most important, how you interact with the locals and live like them. This is what transforms an ordinary travel program into the educational experience of a lifetime. This is what we do best at WorldStrides. Central hotels All of our hotels are centrally located and 3-4 star rated, so you can wake up in the bustle of the city and save commuting time to everything you want to explore. Local cuisine Our tours provide breakfast and three-course dinners daily, all from carefully selected local restaurants. Many tours also feature hands-on cooking classes, like making tapas in Spain, French dishes native to the Loire Valley, or a Tuscan farm lunch. The fastest transport We want to maximize the time you spend in each city or town instead of idling on a coach, waiting to get there! We put you on the fastest trains and comfortable coaches, and we also include metro tickets. The most inspirational experiences Iconic castles. Historic town squares. Famous paintings. They’re the “wow factor” we build into every trip. And these are only the starting points!

More than 50 years of

Trusted travel We’re specialists at international travel, so we have years of experience in keeping programs on track, no matter what the world hands out! We’re also seasoned troubleshooters: We’ve got the staff and partnerships to pivot on a dime and make any realtime program adjustments when necessary, so you can feel confident and covered, every moment of your trip. That’s true peace of mind! Unsurpassed stability and relationships We can bring you consistency and safety because we have worked for many decades with the same reliable companies—airlines, hotel networks, and overseas and domestic security resources. Unmatched safety services and coverage WorldStrides’ 24/7/365 hotline puts live help just a phone call away. Additionally, our Doctors on Call medical support service is administered through our exclusive partnership with the George Washington University Department of Emergency Medicine. Our dedicated in-house Health and Safety team relies on a rich network of international partners and exhibits a “do-what-it-takes” commitment to responding to whatever the world hands out. When COVID-19 shut down travel across the world, we had our travelers’ backs—and we’ll continue to do so as we navigate the future of travel together.

Industry-leading innovation when it’s needed most At WorldStrides, we’ve been tackling “unprecedented” for years. We’re constantly evolving to meet health requirements, and we’re committed to getting it right. Learn more about the new protocols developed by our Back to Travel Task Force so you can travel with confidence at worldstrides.com/travel-with-confidence.

“I figured if we were going to travel, the safest protocols would be in effect, and they were. What actually happened on the trip went way above my expectations—everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience.”

Sharon B., Program Leader

Here’s why our

Tour Directors are the best They lead adventures off the beaten path and set the action-packed pace for each day. They’re trained as educators to understand students’ unique learning styles—making activities fun and memorable instead of lecturing at travelers. They’re all savvy natives who are fluent in the language of your destination abroad: “Let me show you my London. It’s not just what you’ve read and think!” They continually build on our LEAP philosophy by inventing new activities like treasure hunts, role-plays, and debates. They’re great with kids: “The trick for a kid pick me up? Make them laugh. Then they’re listening. Because they’re having fun, they’ve now joined the conversation!”

Our selection process yields only the best! We invest a lot in the selection and training of our Tour Directors, taking them through a formal training process and assessing how they’ll lead and inspire our groups based on auditions, role-play, and more. ~ 1,500 application forms per year ~100-200 preliminary finalists ~20 new recruits It all adds up to a carefully vetted, well-qualified, and enthusiastic group of Tour Directors.

Tour Director Spotlight

Meet John Lionet, a WorldStrides

Tour Director

John knows that the best way to make education fun for students is to help them find personal meanings in what they see and do. He’s a unique blend of teacher, entertainer, and all-around catalyst in helping travelers find real-life adventure abroad—students see him as an inspiration and a friend, and teachers love him because he’s so inclusive.

Like many of our Tour Directors, John started out as a teacher himself, including a chair position in a high school’s modern languages department. (In fact, we give preferential consideration to former teachers within our rigorous Tour Director selection process, because we find they’re naturals at making tours educational and fun.) A Tour Director for over 10 years, John has led trips all over Western and Central Europe, from Scandinavia to Slovakia. You might see him on the steps of Carcassonne, showing students how to create a human flying buttress—or cooking up a paella dish with them in Barcelona.

On his favorite place in the world… The Mediterranean—all the ancient civilizations that influence us still so greatly today flourished on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. On interacting with students… What I love most is that students get me to see the world through fresh eyes—they challenge me to look at things differently. When I can help them open their minds and really give their curiosity free reign, we both learn together.

On his favorite impromptu activities… Scavenger hunts, creating tableaux out of works of art...anything that prompts students to actively explore and create new connections. I also try to get them to interact with local young people—that often ends up being their favorite memory of the trip. On how travel changes students for the better… Young people need to have their eyes opened to the world around them, they need to be self-reliant, to learn that their way is not the only way—and to accept those differences. Travel does that!

“Young people need to have their eyes opened to the world around them...Travel does that!” John Lionet, WorldStrides Tour Director since 2006 37

76

GLOBAL COMPETENCY

Language Immersion Living and learning among native speakers supercharges language learning. And isn’t conjugation more fun with a croissant? Students emerge from these in-depth study programs with superior speaking skills in addition to newfound confidence in the language and knowledge of the culture.

Service-Learning Community service is about more than giving back. It’s about connecting unique people and cultures for an improved understanding of the world. By reflecting on social issues, working side-by-side with local communities, and collaborating as a team, students come home with new respect for cultural differences and a stronger commitment to becoming true world citizens.

Leadership & Community Engagement Through our unique partnership with Camps International field study centers in nine developing countries, expedition-style adventures become transformative experiences in personal discovery, leadership-building, and design-thinking as students build essential skills that will serve them forever.

“There has never been an educational travel program that has aligned with our mission as much as our WorldStrides Global Competence trip. I started asking the students where they would like to go next year—they told me that they want to come back so that they can continue to help the community and see the work that they have done and [how it has affected] the locals!” Program Leader from Delaware 77
