Man pleads guilty to death of girlfriend
see page 43
A man suspected of causing the disappearance and murder of 19 year old Hazel North has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. John Davis had previously admitted to burying Hazel North’s lifeless body in a park before going on the run with the intention of evading justice. By Gregg Kelly 26 year old Davis carried out a “brutal and sustained assault” on Ms North, leaving the 19 year old dying on the floor of his flat for nearly 18 hours, before she was fatally injured. Doctors found that Hazel had suffered fatal damage to her liver and abdomen and in particular because of the liver damage, would have bled very rapidly, succumbing to her injuries increasingly quick.
Upon searching the flat occupied by
Davis, they found no traces of Hazel, but discovered a mud spattered spade
For three weeks police searched for Hazel North hoping that she was alive and well, at the time there were various reports and sightings of her, it turned out that John Davis had murdered and buried her body in woodland two streets away from where he lived and hidden the fact for three weeks. The 19 detailed she had fatally
year old’s death certificate the numerous wounds that suffered before finally being wounded, with repeated
wounds to her head, neck and torso.
John Davis had already been accused of attacking her in February of this year. Glasgow High Court heard that Davis had boasted of the attack on his 19 year old girlfriend saying to friend James Christie “I done her in and buried her.” Before sentencing the court also found out that the accused had recently spent time in custody, serving a prison sentence after carrying out an unprovoked horrific attack on 30 year old Richard Buggs leaving the victime partially blind in one eye.
Ms North’s family had packed out the courtroom to hear details of her death and the details in which police had found Hazel’s body.
dead, and I’ll show you where she is.”
Detectives had spent the entire time searching for Hazel, while also searching for boyfriend John Davis but could not locate him. Eventually he walked into Kilmarnock Police Station and said to officers “Hazel is
After disposing of the body, Davis ran away, but his conscience finally led him to admit his wrongdoing. Allowing Hazel North’s family to mourn the tragic and premature death of a treasured member of their household.
The last time Hazel’s family had spoken to her parents was 28th February which tragically was also the last day she was seen.
Davis admitted that he has had a hard time coming to terms with his actions and said to police after guiding them to Hazel’s buried body, “This is helping me I realise what I did was wrong and I’ll face the music from here.”

Arguably at the front of that list is Jimmy McGovern, who began his small screen career by penning episodes of Brookside, which was set in his home city of Liverpool. Provost’s prostate campaign makes a difference
4th July - 18th July 2014 | Ayrshire News 3
Pubs, clubs and restaurants urged to complete training or lose licence
Over 80% of North Ayrshire pubs, clubs and restaurants are in danger of losing their licence as they haven’t completed vital training. Dr Joanne Edwards, Principal Scientist and Senior Lecturer at Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre (part of the University of Glasgow); Provost Jim Todd and Ann Innes of Prostate Cancer UK display the total amount raised.
Helping men to spot the early signs of prostate cancer and save their own lives has been Provost Jim Todd’s mission during his term of support for his chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK. The campaign has now drawn to a close after two years and while its main aim was to raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms, over £26,600 has also been raised through fundraising events and generous donations from all sectors of the community. This will go towards funding research, raising awareness and improving care and support for men affected by the disease. Provost Todd said: “My main quest when I chose to support Prostate Cancer UK two years ago was to break down the barriers around men discussing their health and seeking medical advice, raise awareness and help the charity to become better established in East Ayrshire. After a year, I had become immersed in the subject and felt that there was much more to do. For that reason I decided
to continue to support the charity for a second year. We’ve now raised over £26,000, helped set up a local support group and taken part in numerous awareness and fundraising events. “None of this would have been possible without the help of so many people, including employees at East Ayrshire Council who have enthusiastically backed and generated ideas such as the ‘Movember’ campaign, the CHIP van team who now provide information on prostate disease wherever they go and of course the numerous people and groups within our communities who have kindly supported the campaign and given so generously to it. “A particular highlight was the ‘Ride for Dad’ event last summer which saw around 100 bikers travel in a cavalcade from Kilmarnock to Cumnock and back to Dean Castle. They proved that if the biker community is brave enough to confront the issue of prostate cancer, then so can everyone else! “Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer and prostate disease in
general also blights many lives. But caught early they are very treatable and many more lives would be saved if men would talk about it, find out the symptoms to watch for and be less worried about going to see their doctors. “We hope that, over the last two years, we’ve helped to bring about a change in the way men approach their own health and I hope that they will continue to be vigilant about the issue of prostate cancer and not be afraid to talk about or deal with it.” Ann Innes of Prostate Cancer UK said: “We are extremely grateful for the amount of support which the Provost, East Ayrshire Council and its staff have given to Prostate Cancer UK. The work they have done to raise the profile of prostate cancer and prostate disease has been incredible and has helped us to make a difference to many men in East Ayrshire.” Provost Todd will announce soon which charity he has chosen to support for the coming year.
Under national regulations, licensed premises must have a Premises Manager who holds a Personal Licence to operate legally. In addition, a Personal Licence Holder must be on the premises to operate after 1am.
“As a Board we are obliged to uphold national licensing laws. This means that, should a premises fail to complete the training or inform us when they do, there will be no option but to revoke their licence, with no recourse to appeal.
All personal licence holders who received their licence before September 1 2009 have to complete refresher training by the end of August 2014. They are also responsible for informing North Ayrshire Licensing Board that they have carried out the training by December 1 2014.
“This is obviously a concern with so many premises having failed to complete the training with just two months remaining before the deadline.
Should they fail to complete the training or inform the Board, their licence will be revoked automatically. The national legislation makes no provision for a hearing, appeal or deadline extension and cannot be altered by individual Licensing Boards. North Ayrshire Licensing Board has written to all Premises Licence Holders informing them that they must either hold or employ the holder of a Personal Licence and have issued deadline reminder letters including information on the requirements. It has also put similar information in its Licensing Policy Statement which was adopted in November 2013.
Female employment at record high New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that more women in Scotland are now in work than ever before while overall employment in Scotland continues to grow. 35,000 more women in Scotland are now employed compared to a year ago, while both female and overall
employment rates in Scotland are higher than they are in the rest of the UK. Commenting, local SNP MSP Willie Coffey said: “These figures are a welcome endorsement of the Scottish Government’s efforts to boost the economy and create jobs – with Scotland’s employment rate outpacing the UK’s.
“And it is also great to see the female employment rate at a record high, however we know that there is much more that can be done.

“I would urge them to make sure that they sign up for the refresher training at the earliest possible opportunity.” Anyone whose personal licence was issued on or before 1 September 2009 must sit and pass the Refresher course by 31 August 2014 and submit evidence of this to the relevant licensing board by 1 December 2014. Any personal licence holders whose licence was issued after 1 September 2009 must also undertake refresher training, but will have specific deadlines dependent on the date they were issued their licence. Individuals who are yet to obtain a licence also require training to hold a Personal Licence. Visit www.scplh.info for information on training requirements.

Ayrshire leading way in battling Jumper thief pulled by long arm of the law sensory impairment A PIONEERING plan to revolutionise access to services for people with sight and hearing loss in Ayrshire is being launched on today, in part to meet a huge expected upsurge in the numbers living with sensory impairment.
Sensory loss can be present from birth, but for most people it occurs later in life, and can range from a relatively low level disability to total blindness or deafness. Today’s moves, the first of their kind in Scotland, have seen all three local authorities join forces with the health board and voluntary organisations to offer a more integrated, easy-toaccess service. Eddie Fraser, director of health and social care for East Ayrshire Council has led this work on behalf of the councils and health board. He said: “We put these proposals out to public consultation in March and got a very positive response. “As well as integrating services for people with sight and hearing loss, we want to include a stronger focus on prevention and enablement, and community-based provision. The new Ayrshire Plan has been given impetus by an unprecedented increase in the number of over-65s projected to be living in Ayrshire and Arran by 2035, up from 69,200 to 106,800 (19 per cent to 30 per cent of the total population). The numbers aged 80 or over are anticipated to rise from 17,598 to 36,070. The

A chronic heroin addict has been sentenced to four months in prison after admitting to stealing a jumper from a local JD Sports store. increases the older the population gets. There are currently around 62,200 people across Ayrshire and Arran with hearing loss, projected to increase by 50 per cent in the next 20 years to around 93,300. Meanwhile, the numbers with significant sight loss are set to double from 12,440 now to around 24,880 if no preventative measures are taken. Eddie Fraser added: “We know the number of people with a sensory impairment is set to increase profoundly across Ayrshire and Arran. This will require that we adapt services to meet these changes. In addition to the huge surge in the older population, life-expectancy rates are also extending. With this comes the growth in the number of people who will experience visual or hearing loss, and even dual sensory loss. It will also see those children with sensory impairment and additional needs
living much longer into adulthood. “So we must respond better to the needs of vulnerable people and those that are isolated socially or geographically and who have real difficulty in accessing services.” A key feature of the new plan is the increased involvement of third sector providers, although ultimate responsibility for care will remain with the statutory sector. Delia Henry, director Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, said: “We welcome the new integrated approach being taken across Ayrshire and Arran. It is crucial people with hearing loss have the necessary support at every stage of their lives. One of the major concerns for people with hearing loss is the sense of isolation that they face. We want to make sure they know about the support available to them and how they can best get access to it.”
36 year old Edward Donnelly, stole the jumper from JD Sports in the Rivergate Shopping Centre on April 6. Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard he brazenly walked into the sports shop around 3:50, selected his desired pull over and hid it before running out the main doors, setting off a store alarm in the process. Staff upon hearing the alarm, checked CCTV and consequently contacted police, who arrived a short time later, checked the footage and identified the man as Edward Donnelly.
He was then reported to the procurator fiscal’s office. Appearing in court last week, it was discovered that Donnelly is currently serving a seven month sentence at HMP Bowhouse, with his earliest release date being July 23rd. Described as having a chronic heroin addiction, Donnelly has been actively trying to rid himself of his vices by taking part with addiction services whilst serving his custodial sentence. Sheriff Foran sentenced Edward Donnelly to a further four months on top of his original sentence, saying of the concurrent custodial sentence. “You have a bad record and this is my only option.” By

Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, Councillor Tony Gurney said: “After the success of this scheme over both the Christmas and Easter period it only makes sense that it returns for the schools summer holidays.
“Extending school meals into the summer will give kids a chance to get involved in physical activities with their friends throughout the holiday as well as the opportunity to get a good, healthy and nutritious meal. “North Ayrshire school pupils have always enjoyed a high standard of nutritious meals and looking at the summer menu it is clear to see why we are considered one of the best.” North Ayrshire’s catering team have been recognised as one of the best in the UK – winning Team of the Year and school cook Pamela Jamieson picking up an award for Chef of the Year at the prestigious Cost Sector Catering Awards.
Prestwick Airport’s reputation as Scotland’s family-friendly airport has been boosted with the opening of a new children’s play area.
For older kids there’s an X-Box Kinect providing full body gaming and entertainment. It responds to the way you move…which should be popular with Dads too.
Located within the Departures Lounge, the colourful Play Zone offers pre-flight fun and entertainment for little flyers and kids of all ages.
Prestwick’s Paula Horne said: “We know that travelling with young children can be stressful so we’ve created our new Play Zone for them to enjoy as they’re waiting for their flight with you.
It’s part of the ongoing redevelopment of the airport and is free of charge. There’s a Playtouch® Touch Screen unit featuring a range of games, all of which have three difficulty levels, enabling kids from young to old to challenge and enjoy themselves.
“It’s just perfect for keeping your little ones happily distracted while you relax and grab a drink or a bite to eat. We believe it’ll make keeping an eye on the kids just that little bit easier.”

Ayrshire potatoes seek protected status Producers of Ayrshire potatoes are to seek Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, it’s been revealed.
Only three other types of potato in the UK already have the status, including the Jersey Royal. Paddy Graham-Jones, Albert Bartlett’s technical and procurement director, said: “Ayrshire earlies are unique to Scotland and to Ayrshire. They have always heralded the arrival of summer. The smooth creamy texture and fresh flavour stem from the Ayrshire soil and climate and the skill and experience of the growers. “These lovely little potatoes have to be appreciated in the short season they are available, and achieving PGI status will give this special Scottish potato the recognition it deserves.”
Both UK and Scottish governments have backed the application. First Minister Alex Salmond said: “Ayrshire early new potatoes are well sought after and achieving PGI status will provide a 100% guarantee of the product’s authenticity for consumers at home and abroad.” Mr Salmond said: “If the bid is successful, the potatoes will join other distinctive Scottish products such as Scottish salmon, Orkney cheddar and Stornoway black pudding in becoming a protected food name. “Put these together with others in the pipeline, like Dundee cake, and you could have a full delicious meal on Scotland’s protected food names alone, all washed down by the product with the most protected name of the lot - Scotch whisky.” By

Children and young people in Largs and district are being urged to keep fit this summer by being given the chance to hit the pool for free. The pool at Vikingar is part of North Ayrshire Council’s free swimming sessions throughout the school holidays.
This would result in the Ayrshire Early New potato being given the same protection as Arbroath smokies and Stornoway black pudding. If the bid is successful the only potatoes that can be branded as Ayrshire earlier are the potatoes that are grown in the Ayrshire region and harvested between May and July. This could help raise awareness of the potatoes.
Free swimming for under-18s
Under 18s can benefit from free swimming to help get them active and eliminate holiday boredom, until 17th August. To gain access, swimmers will need their North Ayrshire Council library cards or National Entitlement Card. The scheme is being delivered in partnership with KA Leisure, which aims to provide more opportunities for children and young people to participate in physical activity on a regular basis. Pools at the Magnum in Irvine, Auchenharvie in Stevenston and Garnock in Kilbirnie are also taking part. Commenting on the scheme, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, local councillor Alan Hill, said: “We are committed to increasing opportunities for children and young people across North Ayrshire to get more active, more often, to help improve their overall health and wellbeing. “By providing free swimming sessions we hope to encourage more people to head to their local pool, take the plunge and get fit while having fun this summer.” By
hard-working staff, our dedicated and inspirational board of management, and enthusiastic and committed partners across Ayrshire we will make that ambition a reality.” With Ayrshire College welcoming the £53 million Kilmarnock Campus, Heather Dunk is currently overseeing a change in the educational opportunities for Ayrshire and the regeneration of the town as a whole. Ayrshire College chairman Willie Mackie said “I am thrilled and delighted to see Heather Dunk awarded an OBE. Heather is a fantastic ambassador for Ayrshire and her contribution to education in Ayrshire has been outstanding. Primary six pupils from Braehead Primary in Ayr have proved they are top of the pops – becoming runnersup in a national songwriting competition to create an original composition that celebrates Glasgow 2014. The pupils also performed their song – ‘The Cheer Starts Here’ – live in front of a 3,000-strong audience for the Queen’s Baton Relay Celebration at the Low Green in Ayr on 20 June and will take to the stage at Glasgow Green on 27 July for another live performance as part of the Big Big BIG Sing Glasgow music event. Braehead’s fantastic and catchy song was created for the Big Big Sing project, which is part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme and supported by Glasgow 2014, Creative Scotland, Glasgow UNESCO City of Music and Spirit of 2012 Trust. It forms part of Braehead’s Cultural Rucksack programme, which is designed to increase pupils’ access to arts and culture and boost creativity and learning. The pupils wrote and recorded their song with the help of University of the West of Scotland colleagues – led by Creative Voices tutor Robert Maitland, a recording artist and community song writer – and Songwriting and Performance students – led by singer songwriter Becci Wallace –
as part of the University’s Digital Commonwealth project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning, said: “This is an incredible achievement for Braehead Primary and we’re all extremely proud of the pupils. It’s a great song that I challenge anyone not to sing along to! The pupils performed like true professionals at the Low Green in Ayr and I know the whole of South Ayrshire will be supporting them when they take to the stage at Glasgow Green. They are absolute stars!” The song’s catchy tune and clever lyrics – which celebrate the coming together of Commonwealth nations and perfectly capture the Commonwealth spirit – impressed the competition judges and narrowly missed out on the number one spot. Head Teacher Sandra Campbell added: “The class were so excited to perform at the Low Green and experience such an incredible audience, like so many of their favourite pop stars and musicians, and I’m sure that’s only a taster of what’s to come at Glasgow Green. They really are a credit to the school, to their families and to themselves and I’m sure there will be lots of tears – of joy! – on 27 July.” To hear the song, and to learn the lyrics, visit www.south-ayrshire. gov.uk/commonwealthsong

Castle fit for the community Sorn and Auchencloigh are the latest East Ayrshire communities to embrace concept of the community led action plan. In recent months, New Cumnock, Mauchline, Darvel, Newmilns, Logan/Lugar and Cronberry and Fenwick have launched their local plans and future visions for their local communities. The action plan is based on feedback from extensive community engagement. The community engagement process began in December 2013 until April 2014 and over the four month consultation period local households, community groups, young people and businesses were asked for their views, and a series of meetings, focus groups and events took place. The responses received helped to shape the community’s shared vision for the next five years.
The Sorn and Auchencloigh action plan outlines a number of local priorities, and like many other communities, roads and transportation issues are high on the agenda and specifically for Sorn, infrastructure with access to internet and broadband connections features strongly. Sorn in particular suffers from a high volume of heavy load bearing traffic passing through the village and there is a keen desire to address this in the interests of road safety and also to preserve the tranquillity of the community. The plan also outlines proposals to improve the appearance of both communities, by cleaning up the villages generally, tackling dog fouling in the area and maintaining public spaces and flowerbeds. Community representatives want to explore ways of improving local sporting facilities and activities and hope to encourage local volunteers to get involved in delivering these. This is a very picturesque pocket of East Ayrshire and the local action plan outlines a number of actions designed
to help boost local tourism trade and the local economy. It contains proposals to develop walking and cycling paths in the area, with improved signage and better promotion; to increase the facilities available for tourists to the area in terms of retail, hospitality and public amenities.
The event at Sorn Castle was attended by over 50 people from the local communities.

Kilwinning Sports Clubhouse opened by Justice Secretary Kilwinning Sports Club fulfilled a dream today as Justice Secretary Kenny Macaskill officially opened their new £2 million clubhouse and 3G sports pitch.
It is almost fifteen years since the Club’s founders Jim McCubbin and Jim Hodge took over a waterlogged field in the town’s Pennyburn area with the aim of providing dedicated football facilities for the local community. Since then the inspirational club, which has been supported by North Ayrshire Council, has become a vibrant hub for the community, providing top quality football facilities, a family golf centre and fitness suite. It has also picked up a host of awards and has been highlighted as a exemplar for other community clubs across Scotland. Funding for the £2 million facilities comes from North Ayrshire Council (£0.52m), CashBack for Communities
(£0.5m), sportscotland (£0.5m), Irvine Bay Regeneration Company (£0.2m), Social Investment Scotland (£0.2m) and the Robertson Trust (£0.08m).
“This is an area where many cannot afford to use traditional sports facilities, so it has always been important to make the club affordable for everyone in the community... The community has been our prime focus and we have always ensured the facilities serve the community rather than spending money and then trying to get people through the door.” The Club now has around 30 football
Residents in Mauchline got just what the doctor ordered, with the arrival of fibre broadband. The village is one of the first in East Ayrshire to benefit from a scheme to deliver super-fast internet speeds and, thanks to it, ‘telehealthcare’. The roll-out of the £410 million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme, alongside the commercial roll-out of superfast broadband, will see around 95 per cent of premises in Scotland connected to fibre broadband infrastructure by 2017/18.
Providing a sporting legacy for the community is key to Kilwinning Sports Club’s work and ties in closely with the Commonwealth Games, and local schoolchildren enjoyed a special taster session of Commonwealth sports at the opening celebrations. Jim McCubbin said: “This is a great day for the club and community and is quite appropriate that we are opening the new clubhouse and pitch ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Superfast broadband makes a healthy difference
Council Leader Willie Gibson, Jim McCubbin of Kilwinning Sports Club, Justice Secretary Kenny Macaskill MSP and Provost Joan Sturgeon at the opening of the fantastic new sports clubhouse
teams from right across North Ayrshire and 1500 people on its books. Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to open and tour this fantastic new facility at Kilwinning Community Sports Club. It’s great to see first-hand how money seized from criminals is directly benefiting communities the length and breadth of Scotland. “The community spirit, which was
instrumental in developing the club, was very evident this morning and it’s clear that the facility already caters to thousands of people offering access to a wide range of sports and activities. “With the Commonwealth Games being only a few weeks away, I hope that even more people in the Kilwinning area will be inspired and encouraged to make maximum use of these new facilities, try a new sport or excel in their chosen field.”
The new infrastructure installed by BT engineers will mean that more than 4,500 residents in Cumnock, Mauchline and, in the coming weeks, New Cumnock will be able to access download speeds of up to 80mbps, allowing multiple users in a home or business to access the internet and download and share large files at the same time and more quickly than ever before. Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “This marks an important milestone for the people and businesses of Mauchline as well as for the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband partnership.”

ISIS militants declare Islamic Caliphate in Syria and Iraq By

Pistorius cited as ‘suicide risk’ as case resumes The trial of former Olympian Oscar Pistorius resumed this week after having been adjourned for a month while the athlete underwent psychological examination at a mental hospital outside Johannesburg. According to a report released by a psychologist that studied Mr Pistorius over the past month, he is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and could be a suicide risk. When the trial resumed it was revealed that psychologists concluded that he was not suffering from any sort of mental disorder when he shot Ms Steenkamp through the bathroom door of their home last year.
This week ISIS militants, who staged a military takeover of eastern areas of Syria and north western Iraq over the past number of weeks, declared that the areas under their control are now a Sunni Islamic caliphate and that the group has change the name of the regions under their control to The Islamic State. A caliphate is an Islamic institution in which a single individual is declared the spiritual leader of all Islam, in this instance, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has declared himself the leader of all Muslims worldwide and demands that their loyalty be pledged to the Caliph. The last Caliph held a mainly symbolic role under the Ottoman Empire until the role was dissolved in 1923 by the newly established Turkish Republic which emerged after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire after World War 1. The declaration of a new caliphate in the territories controlled by ISIS in Syria and Iraq has been viewed as a political statement more so than a religious one, experts on the group have described the establishment of a caliphate as a signal to Al Qaeda that ISIS are now the leading Jihadist group in the region, retribution for Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri condemning the group. Since the announcement by ISIS of the establishment of the Islamic State, alZawahiri has described it as a state of ‘deviants and heretics’. After the establishment of the Islamic State, ISIS has ordered competing Sunni rebel groups in Iraq to swear
fealty to the Islamic State and hand in their weapons. A similar tactic as was implemented in the areas of Syria that ISIS controls previously, quelling any interference from competing rebel groups and using force and at times barbaric punishments such as crucifixion and beheading against individuals found to oppose ISIS in the areas under it’s control. Since the announcement of the new caliphate, al-Baghdadi, the self styled Caliph has called for Jihadists from across the globe to come to the new Islamic State to fight and build the state. al-Baghdadi spoke in an audio announcement released via one of ISIS’s websites saying: ‘Those who can immigrate to the Islamic State should immigrate, as immigration to the house of Islam is a duty. Rush O Muslims to your state. It is your state. Syria is not for Syrians and Iraq is not for Iraqis. The land is for the Muslims, all Muslims. This is my advice to you. If you hold to it you will conquer Rome and own the world, if Allah wills.’ It has been reported that ISIS is hiring hundreds of young men in the areas under their control for a sum of £290 a month, giving them a fortnight of military training followed by a fortnight of religious instruction before being sent to the front lines. The Iraqi government has begun retaliating against ISIS using newly acquired Russian fighter jets and assistance from American military advisors on the ground, the Iraqi forces have been repeatedly pushed back since ISIS began their assault on the country last month.
Mr Pistorius denies murder, claiming that he believed Ms Steenkamp was an intruder in his home. However the prosecution claims that the athlete shot Ms Steenkamp after the pair had a heated argument. Due to the psychiatric reports returned about Mr Pistorius’ mental
state at the time of the killing, the olympian will be held criminally responsible for his actions, meaning that he faces life imprisonment if
Princess Cristina of Spain files appeal in fraud case
Princess Cristina of Spain, sister to the newly appointed King Felipe, has lodged an appeal against charges of tax fraud and money laundering brought against her by the Spanish prosecution service. Princess Cristina is the first member of the Spanish royal family ever to stand trial in Spanish history. The Princess has been implicated in a tax fraud and money laundering
scheme, allegedly masterminded by her husband and his business partner, which used a charitable organization registered to Princess Cristina as a money laundering front, embezzling millions of Euros over the course of a decade. This recent scandal has attributed to a loss in confidence and trust by the Spanish people in their monarchy, resulting in increased support for the republican movement within Spain. By

Nicolas Sarkozy former French President in custody
In a historic first, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been placed under formal investigation by French police, in what is thought to be the first time a former French president has been in police custody. Mr Sarkozy, his lawyer Thierry Herzog, senior prosecutor Gilbert Azibert and second prosecutor Patrick Sassoust were all placed under police custody on Tuesday morning over allegations of corruption and illegal use of influence in a case regarding an investigation into illegal campaign financing. After 15 hours of questioning by anti corruption police, Mr Sarkozy appeared before a judge of Tuesday night. Mr Sarkozy denies any wrongdoing or corruption and suggestions have been made in the French media that he is being targeted by the legal system in retaliation against criticisms he made against the justice system during his presidency. ISP’s to sue GCHQ Several internet service providers from around the globe, have filed legal complaints against GCHQ, the UK’s intelligence agency after the agency openly admitted to intercepting data and practicing mass surveillance on the ISP’s networks.
The ISP’s are making the case that the intelligence agency infected their networks with ‘malicious software’ and illegally accessed the companies and their customers data. The ISP’s are filing their complaints against GCHQ through the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT), the legal body which investigates and assesses complaints against the agencies activities and the veracity of claims where the surveillance agencies have disregarded privacy protection to an excessive degree without due cause. The majority of the IPT’s hearings are held at least partially in secret. Recently the IPT has received a number of complaints from a wide range of organizations in relation to GCHQ’s surveillance, including one case which will be heard later this month on the
legality of the agencies gathering of intelligence through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. In a document released by the agency two weeks ago, the agency justified the legality of their mass surveillance programmes by claiming that online traffic is often directed overseas and as such under current legislation is deemed ‘external communications’ and as such using GCHQ’s interpretation of the law can be surveilled and intercepted without a warrant. While following the letter of the law, this policy of unhindered surveillance violates the spirit of it, with many human rights and privacy groups calling for the law to be updated for
German princess fined £1000 after drunken rant at St. Andrews party A German princess has been fined £1000 after attempting to strip naked at an Oktoberfest party in St. Andrews and racially abused a first aider. Her Serene Highness Princess Theodora Sayn-Wittgenstein reportedly tried to take her clothes off before making racist remarks and assaulted a first aider. Dundee Sheriff Court heard this week how Sayn-Wittgenstein told first aider Farah Jasmin Hussain: “I was doing my nails this morning - I wondered how many Muslims I could kill.” The court heard that the princess had gone to St Andrews University, where she received a degree in international relations before working in Jordan. She returned for a reunion with friends and to attend the exclusive
Oktoberfest party held at Kinkell Byre every March. Fiscal depute Trina Sinclair told Dundee Sheriff Court that the accused was climbing rails and “drawing attention to herself.” The court heard how she started to remove her clothing and was eventually taken to the first aid room. After upsetting the first aider, who ran out the room in tears, the princess “stood on a chair and began to rant about her human rights.” After thrashing and attempting to strike other first aiders and members of the security team, the police were called. She was handcuffed and leg restraints were applied. Defence solicitor Douglas Williams said Sayn-Wittgenstein had “brought shame on herself and her family”.

It has emerged this week that a dossier of claims relating to a Westminster paedofile network in the 1980’s has been lost amid allegations that there was a government cover up of the allegations contained in the report. The report was produced by former MP Geoffrey Dickens in 1983 before being handed to Lord Britton who was home secretary at the time, Lord Britton claims that he passed the documents onto his staff and officials ‘as was standard procedure at the time’ and had no further dealings with the documents. When questioned about the documents last year, Lord Britton denied having any recollections about the files that were passed to him, however this claim was countermanded after a Home Office review case that discovered that Britton had in fact written a letter to Dickens in 1984 claiming that the

He said: “The overwhelming impression one gets is of disorderly and violent conduct occasioned by far too much drink for someone who was unable to properly deal with that level of intake. “I deal with you in the same way as I would deal with anyone who behaves in this way. “These comments you made are unacceptable - they would cause nothing but division, concern and unhappiness.” Sayn-Wittgenstein made no comment as she left court. material had been assessed and was found to be worth passing onto the director of public prosecutions and that the files had been ‘passed to the appropriate authorities’. Labour MP Simon Danczuk has issued a challenge to Lord Britton to come forward with all the information he has about the case saying that Lord Britton should ‘share his knowledge’. Danczuk claims that the document contains information about the ‘Paedophile Information Exchange (Pie), about paedophiles operating a network within and around Westminster’. Since the revelations uncovered by Project Yue Tree, the investigation into historic abuse cases, a cadre of MP’s has called for a far reaching investigation into the affair, a move which Downing Street is so far resisting. Rolf Harris found guilty
This week Rolf Harris was found guilty of 12 counts of indecently assaulting four girls aged from 7 to 19 from the 1960’s through to the 1980’s. Prosecutors described Harris as a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ type individual presenting an amicable facade and taking advantage of his fame to abuse young girls. The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that a further 12 alleged victims have came forward since the trial concluded on Monday. Law firm Slater & Gordon who have been handling the abuse claims against Jimmy Savile has said in a statement that it is considering the
new allegations carefully tabling any further cases.

According to reports in the Australian media there have also been complaints to the Australian police regarding cases of abuse by Harris. Chiefs of the Western Australian police have said that there are no new investigations into the former entertainer. Alison Saunders, Director of Public Prosecutions has said that currently it is too early to comment on whether or not there will be further actions against Harris saying: ‘We’ll work with the police and look at any cases that they send to us and see if there is enough evidence to bring more charges’. Oculus Review Oculus is a psychological horror film directed by Mark Flanagan, now showing in cinemas. It stars ex-Doctor Who companion Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites.
The film follows the story of Kaylie Russell (Gillan) as she tries to capture on camera, the malignant, supernatural force that resides inside the mirror and prove that those affected by it were not responsible for their actions. Using her position as an employee of an auction house, Kaylie steals the mirror and moves it back into her childhood home where, eleven years earlier, the mirror’s influence caused her father to murder her mother. During this time, her brother Tim (Thwaites) is released from protective custody. It is clear that he wants to put the past behind him and move on with his life, but his sister’s obsession with the mirror drags him into her plans. At first he insists that his sister is delusional, unable to come to terms
with the traumatic experiences of their childhood, but when he once again witnesses the mirror’s supernatural power he is forced to question what he remembers. The film itself is structured like a mirror, showing two timelines – the present and eleven years before which run parallel to each other. The earlier one starts off as flashbacks, but as the film’s climax comes closer and the power of the mirror increases, the boundaries between the two timelines become blurred. Another boundary that gets distorted is the one that separates reality with the horrific side of imagination. The two characters experience graphic hallucinations, leaving them, and us watching, unsure of what is real. This film demonstrates the perfect amount of gore that a horror movie needs to install shock in its audience. I found myself cringing at parts that would have been ridiculous if the makers had fallen into the trap of using an excessive amount of blood
CULTURE AND EVENTS
and guts.
Nevertheless, I would still use the word “safe” to describe the techniques in this film. There are many unoriginal suspense-building ploys used in this film, such as the slow removal of blankets covering objects or the use of deadly silence just before something scary jumps out the shadows. In addition, Mr. Russell’s imprisonment of his wife following her mirrorinduced breakdown employs the outdated “mad woman in the attic” trope. We are given the mirror’s bloody history when Kaylie reads aloud her research to the cameras, but I would have liked to learn more regarding the origins of the mirror’s supernatural capabilities. CULTURE AND EVENTS
A catch up with ‘One Last Secret’
Local bands encourage youngsters to take part in Scottish Independence vote
North Ayrshire has become the first local authority to link up with the famous Rock the Vote movement in the run-up to the Independence Referendum in September.
So who are in the band and how long have the band been together, How did you guys meet?
Darran (drums) - We got together at the beginning of 2012. Wesley (lead voxals/bass) - Me and Fraser can’t actually remember how or where – or when we met. But we’ve known each other a long time. Fraser (guitar)- We all got together through other bands splitting up and us knowing of each other from ‘the scene’ so to speak. I know Darran and Darran knew Liam (guitar).
You’re performing live at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, how did that come about?
We’re really excited about this gig – especially Wesley and Liam who are both massive Beatles fans. Our manager and the guys at the Cavern had been in touch with each other and it just went from there, so yeah, we’ve been invited as special guests to perform on the actual, proper stage that the Beatles made infamous!
Where were the band when you heard you had reached no1 in the Scottish New Music chart?
We were all separate – it was late at night when it was announced so sadly there was no champagne popping or celebrating to mention, but it’s great to get some recognition – everybody likes a compliment after all. Some of the other chart entries are from acts that have achieved more than we have to date, so it’s great to be at the top – especially with a brand new entry.
Who were your musical inspirations growing up? Who would you compare yourself to currently in the music scene?
Our inspirations are pretty varied, The
Beatles, Foo Fighters, McFly, Biffy Clyro, Eminem, Stereophonics… There isn’t really anyone like us that we’re aware of. We’re probably more mainstream rock/pop than most unsigned artists. You’d probably think that with a mainstream vibe, it’d be easier to catch attention, but at times it seems the ‘scene’/’industry’ is more interested in everyone sounding different – and by different, not being mainstream – and by a lot of bands trying to sound different, it means a lot of bands actually end up sounding the same. We stay true to the music we enjoyed growing up and still enjoy today. People have suggested our sound is stadium/anthemic rock. We’re happy enough with that!
What has been the bands most rock and roll moment so far, any trashed hotel rooms to report on?
The before, during and after party at the MV Festival, Fraser got a bit worse for wear. Insanity ensued. Nothing was trashed, except Fraser. He doesn’t drink often, but that night, he certainly made up for it.
Having played in Scotland and Britain, what has been your favourite venue?
Darvel Town Hall was probably the best. The production was excellent, everything about those gigs have been completely professional and wellorchestrated. Though there is a high probability that after The Cavern gig this coming weekend, our answer to that may change.
What can you tell us about your upcoming debut album?
The album release in September will be our most important release to date. We went away for the weekend to a
cottage studio to write and record it, which we’ve never done before and really enjoyed the experience. We hadn’t written together, the four of us, before – normally Fraser and Wesley write together and Liam writes individually, then we bring new material to rehearsals and work them through. We took lots of beer with us and came back with all of it – we were just enjoying the writing experience so much that we were concentrated on that, literally every hour of the day. The album itself is our own, personal, work of art. We are producing a full length record for the first time rather than an EP or a single and we want that to come across in the album – every song on it as is good as the next and as important as the one before. It will be the first multi-track release that focusses on one sound – our previous EP’s contained material written by three of us individually, with three different lead vocals. We now have one consistent sound in Wesley’s lead vocals, pulling everything together.
Do you think it has become easier for bands to get noticed thanks to social media?
It’s a hard one to answer one way or another. There’s a number of folk who have been reportedly discovered via YouTube for example, but we’re yet to hear of anyone being discovered through Facebook or Twitter – though maybe it’s only a matter of time! Social media definitely provides a platform, everyone can get their music out there now, everyone can be heard somewhere. Though the flip side is – you want people to come to gigs and see you live and if social media is your only platform – and isn’t used wisely, you could end up with thousands of
fans on the other side of the world with no way of getting to them to gig. It certainly allows a more intimate connection with fans no matter how big or small you are as a band and provides a wider audience, they don’t call it the World Wide Web for nothing!
What lies ahead for the band following the release of your debut album?
Before the album release in September we have the music video and iTunes release for Light It Up on Fri 27th June. We’ve then got a number of gigs across Scotland and England as well as Loch Stock festival the first weekend in July which should be great fun!
Throughout the summer the focus is on getting the album recorded and produced with 12 inch media and then after the debut album release we’re going on tour across the UK. The dates are Sat 13th Sept – Sat 20th Sept and we’re really looking forward to spreading ourselves around the country and hopefully gaining some new fans along the way – and adding to our Shhh picture collection!
It’s due to be an exciting year for us, it really is all go.
Finally the floor is yours, what would you like to say to your fans?
Everyone who has supported us in any way to date – we are 100% thankful for. If you’ve come to a gig, bought some merch, downloaded our tunes, watched our videos on our YouTube channel, bought an EP, interacted with us in any way; thank you for the bottom of our hearts. It makes everything that we do all the more worthwhile.
Star names from the pop and rock world, including Lady Gaga, Korn, Pink, Pharrell Williams and My Chemical Romance, are just a handful of Rock the Votes famous backers. North Ayrshire Council grabbed the opportunity to become the very first UK authority to hook up with the US-based movement as it considered how to encourage 16 and 17-year-olds - eligible for voting for the very first time - to make their vote count. The Council now aims to emulate the success of the US organisation in halting the slide in young people’s votes by ensuring they are registered and know how their vote works. The initiative will see North Ayrshire host a series of Rock the Vote concerts featuring the very best local talent throughout July and August, culminating in a headlining event at the Harbour Arts Centre. Some of the most talented local bands feature in the Rock the Vote gigs, including Crash Club, DJ Neil McHarg (also of Crash Club), The Outlawed, Liquid Walls, Halo Tora, Burnout, Jamie Clarke, Bernard and Kieran MC, and Remedy. Kilwinning’s The Outlawed are keen to support the Rock the Vote campaign and have a simple message for young people who are thinking about voting: “This is one of the most important events we will ever be a part of. The important thing is that young people register to vote and then make sure their vote counts, no matter what way they vote!” That message will come out loud and clear at the Rock the Vote gigs which kick off at West Kilbride Community Centre on Tuesday 1 July from 7pm. The gigs will run from 1 July- 14 August.

Get your Garden Ready for...
How to Feng Shui your bedroom
Barbecue Season!
For more than 3,000 years cultures have held a strong belief in feng shui. Feng shui being the art of balancing the energies of a room, to promote health and wellbeing. It is also aid to promote, good fortune and positive career choices. Feng shui literally translates as wind and water, which in Chinese culture promotes good health, however if a room has poor feng shui it can lead to bad luck, misfortune and poor health.
Whilst lying down on your bed you should not be able to see the door, however try and avoid having angular bedside tables facing you while you sleep. (the angular tables draw positive energy away from the bed).
Here is an easy guide to making sure your room is full of feng shui positive energy. Thus bringing good fortune and well being to your life and your career.
3. Electrical devices
The bedroom is the most important room in your house, its where you recharge your personal energy and with feng shui on your side, you can fully receive the benefits of feng shui. 1. The Bed
Lets presume that you have already acquired a perfect feng shui bed, (comfortable mattress, light pillows, natural fibred sheets etc) The prime location to place your bed for positive feng shui is facing away from the door although avoid putting your bed in a corner. (This is called the feng shui commanding position) 2. Surrounding bedside area
Consider removing unnecessary electrical devices from your room, however if this is not possible, the prime location for electrical devices should be at the opposite end of the room from your bed. 4.Clean fresh oxygen
Another simple exercise which will promote great feng shui, is the regular freshening up of the room, with either an oxygen air purifier, opening the windows(you’d be surprised how many people won’t ever open their windows) Fresh air, equals positive mental stimulation. 5. Lighting
Lighting is one of the most essential parts of creating perfect feng shui in your room, you should be able to chose from more than one light source in
your room. Candles, dimmer switches, lamps, having a good light source can enable you to draw nutrients from the ambience in the room. 6. Colour flow
For positive feng shui, its best to use natural colours whilst decorating your room, referred to as “skin colours” which means that you use the colours most aligned with the human body, try and avoid strong powerful colours because it drains the positive energy from the room. 7.Image optimisation
Finally, the process of selecting the correct artwork for your bedroom is essential for bringing the room together, for feng shui to work, everything that has gone before, must work in unison with the room. By choosing positive and successful images and adorning your room with them, you will help promote positive energy in your life. However do the opposite, and adorn your room with negative defeatist images and you are allowing, negative, defeatist energy into your room and your life.
There is one thing that sunny afternoons were made for... Barbecues. There is nothing better than to invite the friends and family round, having a few drinks and throwing some meat on the barbie. However, before you organise the garden bash you will need to make sure your garden is barbecue-ready. Here are our top tips to get your garden looking so fabulous, you will want to eat outside even in winter! (Well, maybe not, this is Scotland after all!) 1. Make sure your garden is nice and clean. Sweep up any dead leaves and pull up weeds. Brush your paths and decking. Tidy up the shrubbery and trees. 2. Give your garden furniture a good cleaning up. If you don’t have any garden furniture just life the dining table outside. If you don’t have enough chairs, ask friends and relatives to bring some with them or pick some cheap foldaway ones in Ikea. If you have a big grassy area in your garden put down a picnic
rug and some cushions for a relaxed al-fresco experience. 3. Position the barbecue as close to the kitchen as possible, so it’s easier for nipping in and out. Use the table for laying all the food out on, like a buffet style. Make sure you put out sauces, bread and salad to go with the meat. 4. Dot citronella candles around the garden for when the midgies come out to play. Drape battery-operated candles over trees and fences for when it starts to get dark. 5. Make sure you have a shaded area for older guests or babies. If you don’t have a parasol, string up a sheet in the trees, or throw some light material over a whirly-gig. Your guests will thank you for it! By

Prestwick Airport is to receive nearly £10m of investment from the Scottish Government. The funding will go towards operating costs, a repairs backlog and to make improvements to the terminal building. One of the concerns which has come out is that some rival airports have voiced concerns about competition from publicly-subsidised Prestwick. I believe it was a good decision by the Scottish Government to purchase the airport last year amid fears it would be forced to close. Given the huge
amount of jobs that are located in and around the airport, it is essential that the airport continued to function on a commercial basis. I think that the next step should be to get an expert team in and to try and make the airport profitable once again. As well as other financial support the government has set aside £4.5m for repairs and £2.4m to make improvements to the terminal building, including refurbishment of the duty free area. It was frustrating to hear that the airport had suffered from a lack of investment and there was a backlog of
essential maintenance required. Previous calls for the name of the airport to be changed have been put on hold for the time being as the reality is that it is far more important that the airport as a business is focussed on being a success and let’s hope that comes around sooner rather than later. End zero-hour contracts, EU tells UK The EU Commission has called on the UK Government to offer better social protections to workers on zero-hour contracts – which affect 1.4 million workers in the UK and are three times more widespread than previously reported, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Douglas St, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire KA1 1RD
“It is important that people on zerohour contracts do not become trapped in a succession of short-term, lowquality jobs with inadequate social protection,” an EU Commission spokesperson has stated, adding “The UK has an obligation to ensure compliance with working conditions standards set by EU Labour law, including respect for the Working Time Directive.” A spokesperson for David Cameron meanwhile defended the Government’s decision to reduce social benefits for jobseekers who refuse to sign zero-hour contracts. GMB continues to actively fight against the exploitation of workers in
zero-hour or other forms of precarious employment contracts. Workers are being unfairly exploited to benefit shareholders and employers’ profits – it has to stop says GMB. 13 million workers across Europe fall beneath the poverty line despite having a fulltime job, according to new EU trade union research. Whilst preaching cuts and austerity, Germany is the worst offender, with one in five of its workers low-paid. It’s a common thing but, this only tells a fraction of the story when we link to past lives and reincarnation. Continued on next page

When she was ten her parents visited Amsterdam while there they decided to visit the museum of Anne Frank and were arranging to get transport there but, Barbro stopped them
There were other key points to her belief such as, she loathed beans which were said to be the Frank families staple diet for the two years they were in hiding – she had an irrational fear of uniforms and she would not take a shower insisting it had to be a bath [they were known to pipe gas in through the showers in the concentration camps] This along with other cases like it shows that there has to be something in connection with reincarnation otherwise, where would all the facts come from? Another story, which became a TV documentary, was about “The Boy from Barra” the Scottish lad who kept telling his mother that his real family lived there and that planes landed on the sand as well as other details about his home there.
Quite disturbing for any parent to hear I’m sure – she had constant nightmares about men running up the stairs to find her in an attic but her parents thought all of this was just childish nonsense. At the age of eight the class were being taught in school about the story of Anne Frank - she was confused thinking she knew all about this already as it felt like her life - this was beginning to get out of hand and her parents sought medical advice only to be told there was nothing wrong with their daughter.
been taken them down to be framed to preserve them.
On entering the attic she became distressed and fearful, the way she was after one of her nightmares however once calm she said – it’s great to see the film stars still on the wall but, when her parents looked there was nothing there – her mother asked about this she was told they were indeed originally there but they had
When they finally took him to the Hebridean Island of Barra he was able to take them to the house and it was as he had described it and planes do land on the beach. These are only two cases but there are literally hundereds from around the world that have been researched and documented. So, how do you know if your child has been here before? Take a look at this list and see how many things you feel relate to your child.
William McFadzean CSNU has been aware of Spirit since childhood, but, it wasn’t until he was in his twenties and his Grandfather passed, that he started to take his work for the Spirit World seriously. It was a natural step for him to develop as a Medium and to work for the Spirit World. William started to attend weekly development classes in Ayr and continued to develop in various Churches and Centre throughout the UK over many years. Further development was at The Arthur Findlay College in Stansted and has since gained experience by working some of the best platforms in the UK and Europe. William’s demonstrations can have you in tears one minute and howling with laughter the next. He has a natural ability to blend with the Spirit World and interact with an audience at the same time. William is a Platform Accredited Speaker and Demonstrator, as well as a Certificate holder of the Spiritualist’s National Union. For more details please see: www.ayrshire-mediums.com

7 Reincarnation traits in children 1 The eyes – some children are referred to as “Old Souls” you can tell simply by looking at their eyes, as the eyes are the mirrors to the soul. When they look at you its as if they stare straight into your very being and just know you. 2 Advanced skills – kids who are way advanced for their age and can speak and demonstrate skills to a high level - we would perhaps call them child prodigies but where did they get the skills? This could very well have been the case with the likes of Jean Piaget the psychologist who wrote a highly educated paper at the age of eleven. 3 Language – children can either begin to speak in a whole different language or learn one easily. Kids can remember a previous language like the wee boy of 6 years old who was able to understand and translate the words of Adolf Hitler even thought he had no knowledge of the language in or around the family. 4 Memories of a previous life – children will often recount stories about a past life, telling of their family, places they lived, who their families were and also what they did. Apparently this normally happens between the ages of 2-4 after that the memories fade. 5 Birth Marks – children can have birthmarks where they believe things happened to them in a past life. The Tlingit Indians looks out for specific markings on children to see if their loved ones have returned. There was a case in India where a wee boy had a mark on his head and told his family, this is where I was shot in a past life – when investigated it was found to be true.
Yet another boy in India had several birthmarks on his chest and remembers a shotgun blast to that very area. 6 Traumatic events – children can be in total fear about something that is so irrational e.g. in the case of Barbro K arlen and her fear of uniforms which, she went on to conquer by becoming a mounted police officer in Sweden. 7 Information – children can give parents information about their own life before they were born telling them “ we were watching you from heaven before we came here” even my own children at a very young age said to me “ we were watching you from up there [as they pointed to the sky] before we came down to you. The late Dr. Ian. Stevenson, the son of a Scottish Lawyer, had researched over 300 cases of children’s reincarnation including the case of Barbro - which can be found at; http://reluctantmessenger.com/ reincarnation-proof.htm

Life Flow over a number of years, just fast fixes that get fast results. When a twig falls from a branch into the stream it just gets carried by the flow until it hits a boulder or rock. Then it waits until the current carries it back into the flow again. Sometimes it feels as though it’s lodged there forever but that doesn’t always mean it needs years of counselling to move on; sometimes it just needs a gentle shove. For me that’s what life coaching is. Now whether people come and see me as soon as they feel stuck or whether they’ve been there for a while it’s still only that gentle nudge in the right direction they need to put them back on the path that’s right for them. When we’re born we don’t come into the world carrying excess baggage; that comes from things we’ve picked up on the way. Such as the behaviours we’ve learned from other people around us so we fit in our environment. But in fitting in we bend ourselves out of shape and we lose bits of our self. Life coaching is helping you get back to being the real you.
I believe that everyone is born with the gift of being psychic. Some people develop it and use it to help others, some people try but can’t quite get it to work and others will never know they had it in the first place. But what does this have to do with life coaching and while we’re here now what exactly is ‘life coaching’? And more importantly you probably want to know how it can help you? When I had my old day job there used to be a steady stream of people at lunchtime draw up a chair and sit themselves down to tell me about their problems. I didn’t mind as long as they didn’t mind me eating as we chatted. I was happy to help if I could but at the expense of my lunch...? Hmm. It usually ended in the same way; ‘ you should be a life coach you know’. Well, maybe there was something in that; you know the way your mind starts to wonder then wanders off in another direction. But this time I let my body follow it. I knew the direction I was travelling in that job wasn’t the right path for me
anymore so I left it behind. To move quickly forward and cut a long story short I retrained as a ‘life coach’ with Ali Campbell, who is life coach to celebrities and royalty. His name just kept appearing everywhere I looked; you name it there he was, and I liked what he did and the way that he did it; I became one of his apprentices learning from him exactly how he gets results for his clients so that I could do it for others. No need to ask someone to relive their story, no need to come for umpteen appointments
There’s a saying that our thoughts create our reality. Sometimes we have a fear or worry about something in the future, usually based on our memories of what happened in the past. Well unless you’ve developed those psychic abilities I spoke about earlier then how do you know things will turn out the way you think? Life coaching helps you see the reality of the present. Whether it’s a fear or phobia, lack of self confidence or maybe getting rid of stress and putting insomnia to bed once and for all I can help you get results quickly.

Spirit Connections
Each week Joan will provide messages from your loved ones in the spirit world with the aim of providing comfort. If you read one of the messages and feel that it connects with you message Joan and let her know. Spirit Connections:
It may feel like all you do is work in the house and clean up after everyone and that your life is a tad boring however I am to remind you that what you do is always appreciated, perhaps not in the way that you would like but, nevertheless it is. I sense your mother close to you in the world of spirit and she is hearing your thoughts and wants you to know that you did so much for her in the same way and that she loves you very much for just being you. She is showing me how you are feeling at the moment but I sense this is a phase that you go through every now and again and so, it will pass. For some reason I see you thinking about yoga and just getting out to do some other things to help you rise above this stage and you are getting the thumbs up from your mum for this too. Things will be humdrum if you don’t do anything to change them and so this is your opportunity to do so. I am also hearing the name Grace as I write this so that will mean something to you.
Spirit Connections:
As your child get’s ready to fly the coup it is never an easy time especially where emotions are concerned. I sense travel and study in that order and that you are helping them to prepare for this journey and even though you want them to get everything they can out of life it doesn’t make it any easier to see them go. I sense the name Veronica or Vera may have a link to you as well and I also sense that a male in the spirit world is they’re walking
the steps with you and is helping you to remain strong and allow them to go with love. James and Calum will connect to you also and that perhaps there is a connection to them & your Son who is about to make his mark in the world. This is a time when you can also consider what you would like and how you can move forward in your own life as well as this is your growing stage too and time for you to create more of your own identity. Watch out for an offer of travel coming to you that will keep you occupied in the mean time.
Spirit Connections:
The first thing I am given from spirit is the name Kitty and I feel strong Irish links with this name and connections to Inverclyde. There has been a recent house move and I am sensing that you are at last ready to put down roots and begin your life all over again. The last three years have been quite difficult and emotional due to a sudden loss and only now are you rea dy to move forward. A gentleman in the spirit world comes for ward with such gentle and loving energy and can see your progress although painful at times he is proud of your strength and is always close to you. He wants to remind you of a memory and I sense old photographs and Canada are all part of this – there were many wonderful times and laughs along the journey you took together and he still wants to see that smile from you again. He is also saying there is a pregnancy around you and this will help you to get out and about, a new least of life and with such fun attached to it so keep your spirits up as he walks the path with you. Joan will also be answering your letters so email her at: joan.charles@btopenworld.com Joan Charles Perception Brook Street Studios, Suite 2/6 60 Brook Street, Glasgow G40 2AB

Star Signs
www.ayrshire-news.co.uk
Psychic Joan Charles
I am delighted to be delivering your stars although; I won’t be doing them in the traditional way, as I am not an astrologer. For many years I have provided the stars using Tarot cards and that is what I will be doing here so, I guess in a sense they should be called, Taroscopes. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy what the cards have to say.
Aries
Perhaps not the best week you’re ever had although as they say every cloud has a silver lining and I sense yours is on its way. Sometimes you need to come through the rubbish to get to the good stuff.
Taurus
I sense you will be the bearer of gifts for others perhaps not in a material sense but there are things of value that you can pass on and that’s worth more than any material object. There may also be one special gift that is for you too.
Gemini As one door closes another opens and even though you are not sure if this new opportunity is exactly what you wanted it is worth considering before you say no – you could perhaps make it work.
Cancer
When it comes to strength and determination you can very much hold your own and other look to you for help when need be. My sense this week is that you are the agony Aunt for others around you.
Leo
Watch out for an invitation as it’s all about fun and play for you right now and you could be thinking it’s a chill out phase so enjoy. I’m sensing a connection to the commonwealth games so perhaps a ticket is on the cards.
Virgo
Travel and fun stand out however, if you do things in a rush there are bound to be some issues that arise from this so – take your time and that way you’ll get the most out of your adventures.
Libra This week you could have a tendency to be a little melancholy and be looking back over the past. Memories are treasures and it’s all about the way we see things as to the impact it has on us.
Scorpio
Maybe your time is taken up planning how you will keep family amused and you may come up with some interesting things that will work a treat. I am seeing something connected with a boat trip perhaps that’s one of your plans?
Sagittarius
I sense work features strongly this week and that you will be in organization mode in order to get some time to yourself. It’s a kind of checklist before you head off to some exotic place or even just for time to yourself.
Capricorn
Woohoo pleasure is the word I am picking up and I feel that you will be treating yourself to whatever takes your fancy. Retail therapy along with meeting up with pals and just enjoying yourself is what is in store.
Aquarius
You are a hard task master to yourself let alone anyone else and you will be cracking the whip to make sure things are done and in order for work so that you can get onto the next list you have waiting.

In the course of her work Denise also uses her gifts to help parents who’s children show signs of being either psychic or mediumistic and she does this by visiting the family and speaking with the children to uncover where they get their information from.
I was lucky enough to be able to chat to Denise Lescano who is a psychic medium living in Naples in Florid, and who has offices worldwide including; Baltimore, Tokyo and Japan.
In the case of Elijah who was four years old, he told his Mother who was pregnant, that her baby would be going to God.
American Medium
Her earliest psychic memory is around the age of five and so is no stranger to the world of spirit. I asked Denise what she felt were the highlights of her career and she told me “the highlights of my career and what I am most well known for is my extensive work in the mainstream communities within the mental health and medical community, as well as, law enforcement on local, national and federal levels in the US and also internationally. I have a large network of Doctors, Mental Health counselors, Law enforcement professionals and attorney’s that I work with and that refer clients to me. Although I work with the spiritual communities as well, the spiritual community is a much smaller percentage of my work. However, in the last 5 years or so I have been doing more and more work with Television and currently I am working on 3 TV shows. The Psychic Super Nanny clip that you saw is
Sadly a few days she had a miscarriage but he also informed her that she would have another two babies and that they would be boys – low and behold that’s exactly what happened as the couple went on to have a set of twin boys – obviously, Elijah was one very tuned in wee cookie
right now are focused on bringing my message and insight to the TV and film audience. My book was written for the mainstream masses and I will take the same approach with TV and film. I have a degree and background in Visual communications, media and marketing which serves me well in these arenas” It is so important to be able to help families come to terms with and understand a child who has a psychic ability – they need to know that this is in fact “normal” and that to give them love, nurturing and understanding can make all the difference to their lives. Denise is a very talented and gifted psychic who’s work is making a difference and this is what its all about
When Denise made a visit to the couples home she was told that Elijah used to say that he got the information from God however, when she tuned into the psychic energy she was able to share with the family that the information was in fact coming from a Grandmother, she then gave information connecting to her as proof. The family quickly made sense of what was going on which you can imagine would have been a relief, especially when the family don’t really know where this is coming from or what to do about it in order to help their child. I asked Denise what her next goal was and she said “ My newest goals

Crystal Power The Amethyst
Believe it or not th is is known as the “ Sobriety Stone” as it is classed as an antidote for drunkenness.
It is such a powerful crystal for mind, body and soul and is used for the likes of psychic protection, to attract abundance into your life, to bring about calming energies and for meditation.
Apparently this is a great crystal to use when faced with legal or authority matters and so this is worth bearing in mind in case you find yourself a situation like this. Psychics and spiritual folk use this particular crystal all the time to help enhance their energies and skills – they use it for dream work
and clairvoyance, which is apt as it, links to the third eye chakra which is situated in between they eyes on the brow area. To tap into its qualities have one in your home and leave it on the window ledge under the light of the full moon.
Pisces
Pennies from heaven, new cash looks set to come your way and not before time. I sense that you could do with a little extra for the holidays. I’m also seeing foreign cash and it could be there is an added bonus there too.

here are just a handful of writers working in British TV whose name makes viewers sit up and take notice. Arguably at the front of that list is Jimmy McGovern, who began his small screen career by penning episodes of Brookside, which was set in his home city of Liverpool. Since then he’s won numerous plaudits for such acclaimed programmes as Cracker, The Lakes, The Street, Hillsborough, Sunday and Accused. Now McGovern is back with Common (Sunday, BBC1, 9pm), a one-off, feature-length drama that is sure provoke plenty of chat around watercoolers across the nation – and may even spark further debate in more lofty settings. Like
much of his previous work, it’s set in the north west of England. At the centre of the tale is Common Purpose, a 300-year-old legal doctrine that allows several people to be charged with a crime where they are not the primary offenders. It has been increasingly used in the last 10 years to tackle crimes, often murder, which are deemed to be gang-related. “Joint Enterprise was first used in Britain's courts a few hundred years ago,” explains McGovern. “It was designed to stop the aristocracy duelling. If one duelist killed another then all involved in that duel (the seconds and the surgeons) were charged with murder. It worked. mBritain's aristocrats stopped duelling.

“Now the law is being used against Britain's youth. If someone dies in a fight and you're involved in any way whatsoever, you could find yourself charged with murder. And, if you do, Heaven help you because the burden of proof required in joint enterprise cases is frighteningly low.” mThe BBC’s controller of drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, adds: “Common is an ambitious and controversial film. Much in the same way as Hillsborough and Sunday, Jimmy wanted to write this film after
talking to the families of those directly affected by the joint enterprise law. “We believe it is right for the BBC to give writers such as Jimmy an opportunity to tell a story like this, and to allow the audience to make up their own minds about it.” The Village star Mirallegro heads the cast as 17-year-old Johnjo, who gives his cousin and some mates a lift, supposedly so they can get a pizza. They’re actually going to confront somebody they’ve had an argument with – and in the ensuing melee, an innocent bystander is killed. Chris Diamantopoulos Episodes BBC2, 10pm With Pucks dead, our beloved scribes are about to head home, but word has got out about their piping hot script, and unhinged big cheese Castor wants to fast track a series into production… without even shooting a pilot. The problem is Castor is mentally a few programmes short of a schedule, as he proves in a rib-tickling/ cringeworthy meeting when he proposes they screen any show at any time. And that could include a fourhour show about bees. Meanwhile, Matt gets a rude awakening when he goes for an interview at NBC.

Big Review!
One great thing about online shopping is the fun when it arrives – it’s like a present to yourself!
The Smart Girls Guide to... The Glasgow Hire Bikes
So imagine receiving a box of goodies and the excitement of not knowing what’s inside! If you like the sound of that, you will love Glossybox! After hearing great things about Glossybox, I received a box of treats and it really is like a gift! Beautifully wrapped in tissue paper and ribbon within a pink box, enclosed within are five beauty products. Usually a mixture of samples and full size products, items are hand picked by the lovely people at Glossybox to suit your preferences. It is then delivered straight to your door. All for £10 (plus P&P) a month, this works out to £2 a product! Bargain! I was sent the June box (I kept this article until July as not to ruin the surprise for anyone waiting on one!) and the goodies were fabulous. Here is a run down of what was inside: Nailgirls 3-in-1 base, topcoat and nail strengthener The nail varnish has been relaunched and is longer lasting. I have had it on for 4 days so far as I write this (even through nail biting deadline day!) and my nails have got hardly a chip on them. Teeez Trend Cosmetics Beautiful Flat Stiff Brush This beautiful eyeshadow brush makes for an easy application and is amazing
Everyone is talking about the bike hire scheme, how to use them, how much they cost and where to find them. So here is our guide to everything you need to know about the bikes...
How to get started...
quality. I used it to create smoky eyes and I was very impressed with this brush. L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Black This mascara is possibly my favourite item out the box. A pet hate of mine is clumpy mascara and there were hardly any clumps at all with this. With different sizes bristles the brush covered all my lashes and fanned them out for that false-lash effect. So Susan Cosmetic Concealer Squad This compact quad has three shades of concealer and a highlighter which makes it perfect for contouring. This came a close second to the mascara in my list of favourites. It is lightweight and because
it’s made with virgin Marula oil, it nourishes dry skin. Rituals... Qi Gong-Spray This lightly scented antiperspirant spray is perfect for summer. It’s not often you find an anti-perspirant that smells nice but still has protection, and infused with white lotus and yi yi ren it smells amazing! Overall, I am delighted with my Glossybox and will definitely be subscribing to it. They have monthly plans or they also have three, six and 12 month plans. So what are you waiting for, sign up to Glossybox today – you won’t regret it! For more information or to sign up go to www.glossybox. co.uk By

Before you can take a bike out, you will need to register with Next Bike which you can do online, over the phone or by downloading the app. When you go to hire a bike, you can either call up Next Bike or use the app and you will be given a pin code. Type this into the computer on the bike, it will then tell you the code for the lock and you’re good to go! When you’re finished, you just lock up the bike at another hire station.
Fair fares? Now let’s get to the nitty gritty – the price. For a casual user, the price would be £1 for 30 minutes hire, with each additional half hour costing £1 and capped at £10 for up to 24 hours. A yearly membership costs £60, with hire free for the first 30 minutes and £1 an hour, capped at £5 for up to 24 hours.
Funky Features The bikes have a really slick design and are designed for both men and women to use. The seat goes up or down by adjusting the saddle height. They are equipped with three gears, a bell and a set of Dynamo lights. They even have a wee basket for your bag.
City Cruising The bikes are perfect for nipping about the city on. If you are coming from the south side, get off at Bridge Street Subway and hop on there. Coming from East Kilbride or Rutherglen area? Get off the bus at the Trongate, where there is a bike stand there. You can cycle along the Clyde to the Riverside Museum or take a wee jaunt over to the West End where there are plenty of places to lock it when you’re finished.
Plan that Perfect Picnic! Now that the sun is out, it is best to make the most of it while we can! What better way to enjoy the sun is to make up a delicious picnic and hit the park? Read on for how to organise the perfect picnic... This might seem pretty self-explanatory but don’t forget a picnic rug. If there are quite a few of you going ask everyone to bring one each and you can join them all together.
Make sure you pack an ice cooler, which will keep everything nice and cool.
Now for the food, prepare easy to eat finger-food. Scotch eggs, mini chipolatas, olives, sandwiches, pitta pockets, quiche wedges... the list goes on! Make everything beforehand, the last thing you will want to do is start making sandwiches in the scorching sun, with bugs flying around. If you are not sure what
everyone will like, make a selection.
Ask everyone to bring a dish/plate of something. If everyone brings something they like and share, no one will go hungry – even the fussiest of eaters. As alcohol is off the menu in Glasgow public areas, prepare some delicious cooling drinks in advance. Smoothies or home-made juices will go down a treat! By

Get on your bike! The new hire bikes hit Glasgow last week, which mean one thing... shopping trip required! What better excuse to go shopping, than for a few cycle-friendly items. The good thing about the new “Weegie Wheels” (that’s the nickname i’ve given them!) is that you could be out in town
and feel like hopping on a bike to the West End. This means wearing your everyday stylish clothes that are still practical enough to ride a bike in. Here are our top picks for you to wear on or off a bike... no cycling shorts to be seen!
A baggy, oversized t-shirt is perfect for cycling as it is loose and baggy and won’t cling when you work up a sweat cycling up Hope Street!
Boyfriend Tee Topshop
£12.00 A skirt is a no-no when you are on a bike, so a playsuit or shorts are ideal. This playsuit is perfect as it can be worn bike-to-bar... just make sure you leave the bike for the day!
Frill Floral Playsuit Miss Selfridge

Any cyclist knows that baggy trousers are a definite no when you’re on a bike. Unless you want to tuck one trouser leg into your socks (eeek!) a pair of skinny jeans are the best thing to wear. There is also nothing worse than seeing someone on a bike with their trousers riding low and their pants on show. These are great as they are high waisted so will keep you nice and covered!
Brigitte Disco Fit Skinny Jeans Missguided
£24.99
If it rains – being in Glasgow, it will at some point – you won’t be able to hold an umbrella, so a hoodie is ideal for when on a bike.
Zip up hoodie Internacionale
£16.99
And another thing... An essential for EVERY woman using a bike! A cushioned saddle seat cover. This can be carried around with you, taking up hardly any space, and put on when you use a bike. It will be a god-send, trust me!
Bicycle Gel Saddle Cushion Seat Cover Amazon

Wearing a baseball will keep the sun your eyes and your out your face. It will protect your head the sun – if it’s sunny!

PETS The Scottish SPCA’s Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Re-homing centre is hoping kind residents will be willing to offer a rescue pets a second chance at happiness. Here are four adorable guys looking to find forever homes
Name: Austin Age: 2-3 years Gender: Male Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Austin is a super friendly guy who arrived in our care with Edwina. He is a relaxed and confident cat and would fit in well in most households. Austin would be fine with cat-savvy, well-behaved children. He may also be able to live with another cat pending a successful introduction.
Names: Chip and Fred Age: 9 years Gender: Male Breed: Chinese Crested
Chip and Fred are two lovely little guys who are desperately looking for a home together. They came into our care a couple of months ago and were initially very timid in a kennel environment. After a bit of work and TLC they have turned into fantastic little dogs. Chip has had his eye removed since he came into our care because of glaucoma but that doesn’t affect him at all. Both he and Fred are in their element when running around the garden in the sunshine and will make fantastic pets. Chip and Fred would prefer a home without any children and with someone who has lots of time to give them the love and attention they deserve.
If you’re interested in rehoming any of these animals, you can download and complete a pre-homing questionnaire on the Scottish SPCA website and bring it with you when visiting our Ayrshire Rescue and Rehoming Centre. The centre is open from 10am to 4pm seven days a week.
Doggy Day Care & Grooming Open: Mon - Sat 8am - 6pm
Why not have your dog groomed whilst you shop at Braehead. Full groom includes a couple of hours in the doggy day care centre. Afterwards your dog can then socialise and play with other dogs while you relax! Full Groom includes bath, dry, groom, nail cut. Full grooms from £27 Bath and brush out in between grooms £12

Tel: 0141 778 8335 Protect your pet from pesky parasites! The warmer months are peak season for pesky parasites like fleas and ticks. Fleas are a major source of irritation to pets and owners alike. They feed on the animal’s blood and multiply rapidly to cause an infestation. As well as being found on your pet they will live in the carpets and bedding at home. Fleas are responsible for transmitting tapeworms in pets so worming your pet if you find fleas is also advisable. Ticks are found mainly in woodland areas or on the hills and moor land but can be found in areas of long grass, especially if deer or hedgehogs are in the area. Ticks also feed on your pets’ blood and can cause serious diseases such as Lyme’s disease as well as a reaction to the bite itself. It is important never to pull a tick from your pet’s body. This can result in the tick’s head being left in the skin, causing infection, pain and irritation. Tick removers are available to ensure safe and complete removal.
Angiostrongylus vasorum (also known as French Heartworm) is a parasite that infects dogs. The adult worms live in the heart and large blood vessels supplying the lungs and can cause a whole host of problems in affected animals and if left untreated it can be fatal. The lungworm parasite is carried by slugs and snails, which are often eaten by dogs on purpose or accidentally when attached to toys or grass or in outdoor water bowls. Symptoms range from breathing problems, blood clotting problems, general weakness and depression and even sudden collapse and death. Infection can be prevented by using a specific spot on preparation, available from your vet.
Lungworm is another parasite that is becoming increasingly common. The lungworm
Flies can cause a major problem to rabbits in warmer weather. They can lay eggs around the

Edinburgh church bought by creator of Grand Theft Auto The president of Rockstar North studios, responsible for creating the Grand Theft Auto series of video games, is set to purchase St Stephens Church in Edinburgh for a sum thought to be around half a million pounds.
Spokesman for Mr Benzies, Phillip Johnston, has described the move as ‘an entirely philanthropic purchase’, with the intent to maintain the property and preserve it as a community gathering centre for the local residents. Mr Johnston also said the plans for St Stephens will ‘ensure the long term viability of the property as a community centre that benefits all’. Mr Benzies, originally from Aberdeen, has lived in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh for over a decade, Mr Johnston said that it is due to this lengthy time in the area that Mr Benzies recognized St Stephens ‘importance to the community’ saying that ‘Stockbridge is a busy residential area with a relatively small number of community venues’. Mr Menzies beat out around 50 interested parties when purchasing the property, many of whom planned to turn the property into private flats or a bar/restaurant complex. By

Reduced number of mortgage approvals
According to statistics released by the Bank of England, the number of mortgages approved has dropped to the lowest level since June of last year, citing the new mortgage affordability checks as the reason for the decline in approvals. Figures for May showed that there were 61,707 mortgage approvals for private individuals over the course of the month, down from 62,806 in April and much lower than January’s peak of 75,901. Due to new regulations brought in by the government in April of this year which compels lenders to carry out stringent tests on potential borrowers, which includes questions about the prospective customers lifestyle and
PROPERTY
other aspects of their personal life, before approving a loan the number of mortgage approvals has fallen sharply across the UK. However, despite these new tests, the rate of home sales has been rising consistently month on month over the course of the last 12 months. The British Bankers Association (BBA) has echoed the Bank of Englands findings in a recent report, which showed the number of mortgage approvals had fallen nationally over the last four months, despite fears over the past month that the property market was starting to overheat again. These recent findings have shown that the new mortgage affordability checks have been working as planned, however, the Bank of England’s
Financial Policy Committee has made recommendations that such checks should be made more stringent again, in an effort to guarantee that another national property bang/bust cycle cannot begin. The committee has advised that the checks should test whether or not a mortgage applicants finances could withstand a three percent rise in interest rates, a slightly more difficult test than currently given. The government will also be implementing new measures from October, intended to prevent lenders from lending out too much capital to too many high risk applicants, who are borrowing more than 4.5 times their annual income and may not be able to maintain the payments. Magical teapot house goes on a whimsical journey
A house shaped like a teapot, dubbed the ‘Magical teapot’ by it’s creator, artist Ian Hunter, in the border town of Lilliesleaf has been sold for the sum of £10,000 and is set to be transported all the way to the south of France later this month. Originally Mr Hunter built the teapot as a kiln for drying timber which he
works with in his art, however, the building eventually became a visitors attraction and studio for the artist, with a enough space to squeeze 28 people into the whimsical structures top floor. When the teapot arrives in France, it will be repurposed as a tourist attraction and addition to the tea room business that bought it. Mr Hunter said: ‘I am really happy
someone is going to enjoy it.’ It had been advertised on a property website as a ‘fabulous addition to any visitor attraction’ The teapot is set to be dismantled, with every piece being numbered and catalogued before being shipped to France by lorry where it will be reassembled. By

PROPERTY Scottish parliament abolishes Right to Buy MSP’s at Holyrood have voted to abolish council tenants right to buy their homes. The move has been touted by MSP’s as an important step in preserving Scotlands social housing stock, which has seen a loss of nearly half a million properties in the last decade due to the ‘right to buy’ scheme, contributing to increasing waiting lists for social housing across Scotland a list amounting to 185,000 people.
The scheme which was introduced by the Thatcher government in the 80’s is credited with the quantum shift in the home ownership model in Scotland when paired with the housing boom of the early 2000’s, more Scots than ever own their own property. However, a large proportion of former social housing is now part of private letting portfolios, creating an inflated market price for housing originally intended to be accessible to people on the lowest ends of the income scale. The amendment to the housing bill was voted in by a margin of 93 votes to 12, in a statement to the press Housing Minister Margaret Burgess said: ‘We’ve lost 455,000 properties taken out of the social sector while thousands people remained on housing waiting lists in the last year. This could not go on – abolition will protect up to 15,500
homes in the socially rented sector which would otherwise be lost over the next decade. Continuing right to buy would affect all of us, as many former council homes bought under the right to buy end up in the private rented sector, leading to higher benefit costs than would otherwise be necessary. These council homes will no longer be lost to the socially rented sector and this will help to bring down waiting lists as more affordable homes are built.’ Conservative spokesman for housing Alex Johnstone has hit back against the move saying the abolition of the right to buy scheme was ‘the most successful driver for social change in more than 30 years’.
Going on to criticize the Holyrood parliament saying: ‘People in Scotland aspire to own their own homes, but the Scottish government has kicked the property ladder out from under them’.
However, despite immediate concerns following the vote, tenants will have until 2016 to apply to buy their social housing from the local authority, this may mean that a larger proportion of social housing will be sold off in the next two years than previously would have been, as tenants panic buy their properties. Shedden closes the gap on Turkington McLaren unveils support for STEM subjects

McLaren unveils support for STEM subjects This week McLaren Group revealed it will join a government launched campaign to boost participation in science, technology, engineering and maths (the ‘STEM’ subjects). The campaign called ‘Your Life’ was launched by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. McLaren will continue its efforts to boost the perception of science and engineering amongst young people by carrying the campaign’s logo on the McLaren Mercedes car for the British Grand Prix, as well as committing to actively support the campaign into the future.
George Osborne said: “The Your Life campaign is part of a long term economic plan to support our high growth sectors across science, tech and engineering, by bringing together some of Britain’s best businesses, institutions and government. “This fantastic commitment by McLaren will help inspire even more young people into well paid jobs in these exciting industries that are essential to our economic prosperity.”
“But I want to do more. With continued government backing, I think we can grow the number of high tech firms here in the UK, we can rejuvenate our manufacturing industry, and Britain can help tackle the global challenges that confront us. To do that though, we need the brightest and best young people to study science and maths and to choose technical careers. That is why I am proud to support the Your Life campaign.”
Ron Dennis CBE, Chairman and Chief Executive of McLaren Group said: “The UK has a rich heritage in science and engineering. It’s no coincidence that eight Formula 1 teams are based here.”
During a visit to the McLaren Technology Centre, George Osborne will discuss the career paths available in high technology companies with a group of female engineers from across
seven points closer to the top position on the board, currently occupied by Turkington.
eventually taking the pole in the final race of the meeting.
McLaren. He will also meet young women from Waldergrave School, recent winners of the GSK McLaren Scientists in Sport challenge, which is designed to inspire students to continue their STEM education and take up technical careers. Over 180 leading businesses and institutions have now signed up to the
Your Life campaign including Google, L’Oreal, Microsoft, Ford, BP, BSkyB, Airbus, Nestle, Samsung, the Science Museum and now McLaren Group. They have all pledged to do more to highlight the career opportunities open to those studying STEM subjects, with some creating new entry level job opportunities and others extending their outreach programmes.
Shedden closes the gap on Turkington Last weekends British Touring Car Championship meet at Croft was a roller coaster of successes and failures across the field. With Colin Turkington in the eBay BMW taking the pole in the first two races of the day with Gordon Shedden hot on his heals in both instances before Turkington retired in the third race of the day, leaving the field wide open for Shedden and in the process move
The weekends racing also signalled a return to form for reigning champion Andrew Jordan who once again finds himself in contention for the championship after a number of disappointing runs this season. Jordan, like Shedden benefitted from Turkingtons mechanical problems and subsequent retirement,
However, despite the advantages gained by Shedden and Jordan, Turkington and his BMW showed consistent pace and excellent form across all the races of the weekend obliterating his own qualifying record at Croft by 1.2 seconds and going from lights to chequered flag in two consecutive races. True to BTCC form there was plenty of
paint trading and shoving amongst the pack, with Jason Plato receiving a 10 place grid penalty after making heavy contact with Alain Menu’s VW CC. Matt Neal, Shedden’s team mate was also embroiled in some controversy, after a ride height check during scrutineering showed that he was sitting below spec, disqualifying him from race one, in the second race, Neals luck remained poor after smashing into both Rob Austin and Warren Scott, resulting in all three cars
being put off the track with only Scott being able to return to the competition. After the dust settled on Sunday, the race for the championship isn’t looking like a foregone conclusion anymore, with the leaders of the table closing in on each other, leaving only small margins for each driver to gain or lose throughout the rest of the season. MOBILITY I BATHING I TOILETING DAILY LIVING AIDS I HOUSEHOLD
At last weeks I/O conference, Google finally unveiled their awaited Android Auto car integration system, the search engine giants answer to Apple’s Car Play system. This latest development in the mobile OS war between the two technology giants has signalled the beginning of a new era for in car entertainment and smart integration for end users. Both Google and Apple’s new systems will be powered by the users handset in place of the cars onboard systems unlike systems previously developed in house by car manufacturers, this development means that car owners will no longer have to bring their car to a dealership for a complicated upgrade process to their on board entertainment system but will instead use their phone as the driving force behind their onboard information and communication systems.

HELPING TO PROMOTE WELLBEING AND MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE FOR INDIVIDUALS Unhinged proposals for Cycle Streets AND THEIR FAMILIES A number of manufacturers have chosen to implement both systems instead of going exclusively with one system as market research has indicated that many prospective buyers may make their decision on what new car to purchase based on which smartphone operating system they use in their day to day lives, as choosing a car with the opposing system would create a number of problems for a new user including changing their phone.
Many technologists have presented the view that Google will initially come out on top in this battle as one of the most important aspects of the new integrated systems is navigation, an area where Google has the most comprehensive lead in the industry. However, as the 2015 models roll onto the showroom floor later on this year, how the systems work on a day to day basis for motorists will decide which OS is the victor and which will slide into obscurity.

In the latest Traffic Signs, Regulations and General Directions proposal document which is used as a discussion document to set policy for the coming year on Britain’s roads, a proposal has been made for the introduction of what have been dubbed ‘Cycle Streets’.
Streets giving the Cycle Street designation would have a 15mph enforced speed limit for motorists and overtaking a cyclist would become illegal. Under such regulations, any motorists found to be exceeding this ridiculous speed limit or overtaking a cyclist would be subject to a suggested fine of £100 and penalty points placed on their licences.
The document proposes that certain streets within city centres nationwide should be regulated with a view to making cyclists the main priority.
Such a system would give priority to cyclists on the roads within cities, despite the fact that the majority of cyclists do not pay road tax as a
bicycle is their primary method of transport and as such do not contribute to the upkeep of the road system. If this proposal is approved, the government will have to spend millions of pounds re-designing road systems around cyclists, something that Westminster will no doubt justify as local authorities recoup the money spent through fining frustrated motorists for over taking someone going 1mph on the new Cycle Streets. Tigers Timing Perfect?
There are lots of everyday contentions and competitions between Scotland’s biggest two Cities’ in relation to business and commerce – this weekend things turn serious and highly focused on the speedway track as Glasgow host rivals Edinburgh in what will be the most hotly contested Premier League match of the campaign so far. With the Allied Vehicles Tigers having gradually improved their home form around their Ashfield Stadium circuit in recent weeks – winning their last three home league encounters – Glasgow fans will be hoping that their favourites have timed the visit of dearest rivals, the Monarchs, to perfection. However, with the capital club yet to suffer defeat, home or away, since their 2014 season started some 22 matches ago in April, Sunday’s first Scottish Speedway derby league clash of the season has all the makings of a sensational spectacle. Tigers, who have had to contend with weather interruptions to their season as well as injury to key riders, will

With no Premier League side yet having conquered the Monarchs in any competition so far this season, that fact will only add fuel to the desire of Glasgow to be the first team to lower their colours. Undoubtedly Tigers will require the best possible performances from each of their remaining team members, each of whom have shown glimpses of what they’re capable of. With
Rusty Harrison, Kevin Wolbert and Anders Thomsen all highly capable of some spectacular racing on the pacey Ashfield circuit, the Tigers will look to make it a hot afternoon for the unbeaten Edinburgh side. Racing at Ashfield will get underway at 3pm this Sunday – can Glasgow claim all the derby bragging rights and send shock waves around British speedway? Trump defends Turnberry name change Tycoon Donald Trump has defended his decision to add his name to Turnberry, one of Scotland’s most famous golf courses.
The US billionaire bought the Turnberry course and hotel in Ayrshire in April. It is not known what the sum was. During his first media conference at the course, he claims he wasn’t renaming the course for his ego, but to make it “more successful”. Trump said: “I looked at the name change in the form of logos and it looks so incredible. “One of the things that I think is good

AGAINST ALL ODDS Messi and co. versus Belgium is going to be a battle of wills. The Belgians are a team in form, with some truly remarkable individuals, however the Argentinians Have Messi, Di Maria et al. Strategic plans will come in to play, and I fancy a low scoring game, with Argentina to just edge it, 1-0 at odds of 6/1 However the tie of the weekend is Brazil versus Colombia, there will be goals in this one, two sides full of flair, and goals that can come from anywhere, over 2.5 goals is 21/20, so more than double your money is on offer, I see this as a dead cert. Holland and Costa Rica - the experience of the Dutch, led by LVG, against the surprise package in Costa Rica. I think this is where the Costa Rican run will come to an end, the Dutch have a hunger about them, backed up by the flair of Robben and the Goals from RVP, take a Dutch win with both teams to score at odds of 3/1 12th July sees the Darley cup take place, and I can’t see past Paddy Powers mums horse, Slade Power. The double is on the cards after winning the Diamond Jubilee stakes. Currently trading at 5/2, however, wait until the day of the race for this one, and get guaranteed odds. I think it will open around 11/4 or 3/1 , so even if it shortens up, you will still be guaranteed the higher price (not available with ante-post betting) By Odds correct at time of going to print Only gamble with money you can afford to lose

World Cup Round-Up So the group stages are over, the last sixteen has been whittled down and its time for the last eight showdown. Current world flopped.

Spain
England, Portugal, and Italy could not escape the clutches of mediocrity, however this World Cup has proven that you need more than expensive players and previous history to triumph. With Costa Rica, Columbia and the universally derided USA playing some of the best football of the tournament so far, it seems like a changing of the guard is upon world football. Its not to say that the tournament is now without teams expected to progress, prior to the beginning of the World Cup. Hosts Brazil are still favourites. Argentina are being almost single handedly dragged through the tournament by magician Messi and the golden generation of Belgium are still firmly in the mix to become world champions. The difference with this World Cup is that it’s the less fancied teams that are playing without fear, Columbia, arguably the team of the tournament, marching fearlessly into the last sixteen, their odds in the local bookmakers have quickly narrowed.
The second week of Wimbledon has certainly seen a few upsets, as defending champion and home favourite Andy Murray crashed out in straight sets following a below par performance against the Grigor Dimtrov. Murray seemed to struggle against the Bulgarian and made 37 errors throughout the course of the match. Reigning Wimbledon champion Murray, was looking to continue his 17 match unbeaten run at the All England Club, but was demolished in just over two hours. Murray has yet to reach the standard of last year following his back surgery and also losing Ivan Lendl as coach. Murray shouldn’t be too downhearted though, there have only been four men in recent history to retain their
Wimbledon title, Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. One of the greatest upsets in Wimbledon history occurred the day before Andy Murray played, as reigning world number one and French Open champion Rafael Nadal crashed out to a player ranked 143 places below him in the world. Nadal faced the relatively unheard of Nick Kyrgio who only appeared at Wimbledon through the wildcard process. Kyrgio surviving nine match points in the previous round to triumph 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. It has been 22 years since anyone outside of the top 100 has defeated a number one, Andrei Olhovskiy beat Jim Courier in the third round in 1992. By

If the Columbian team continue to triumph and overcome Brazil in their next match and go on to lift the World Cup, local betting shops would be left with a quite a considerable financial headache.
The upcoming game between these two footballing giants is being considered by many as a possible game of the tournament, with both teams being commended for their free flowing style of football during the World Cup.
The Netherlands and Germany have quietly went about their business securing their place in the quarter finals.
Costa Rica have been the true dark horses of the tournament, with many predicting them to finish bottom of their “group of death”, they confounded the critics and have played with a finesse that teams have struggled to compete with.
Germany eventually seeing off an unfancied Algerian team. The Germans, however barely scraped through and the Netherlands needed a dubious penalty against Mexico to progress, These games have proven that at this point in the World Cup there are no guaranteed results. With the Netherlands reaching the World Cup final and subsequently losing, more times than any other team in world football, they will be looking to finally hold the trophy aloft instead of being runners up looking on. France under the tutorship of Les Bleus legend Didier Deschamps (who previously won the World Cup as a player with France) are playing with the confidence needed to win a World Cup. Facing Germany for a place in the semi finals, both teams will certainly stride into the game expecting no less than 110% percent from each player and expecting the win.
Considering Costa Rica began the tournament in a group consisting of Uruguay, England, and Italy, they not only escaped the group, but finished top above Uruguay. Forcing England and Italy onto the first plane home with their tail firmly between their legs. Facing the Netherlands with the winner securing a place in the last eight, Costa Rica will go into the game fearless, as they have done throughout the entire tournament. The lineup for the last eight looks like this Brazil vs Columbia Netherlands vs Costa Rica France vs Germany Argentina vs Belgium Until next week Gaaaaame Onnnn!

from Carlisle
The three time Scotland cap was recently released by English side Carlisle United after they were relegated to League Two. The well travelled Miller has previously had spells with Falkirk, Hearts, Dundee United and Aberdeen, making more than 100 appearances for the Dons. Gordon Strachan was a known admirer of him whilst manager of Celtic and in 2010 after becoming manager of Middlesbrough, he paid Aberdeen almost £600,000 pounds to take the striker to England. Kilmarnock fans will be hoping that Miller can show some of the form that led him to being called up for Scotland, as there will be a huge void left in the Rugby Park front-line following the departure of top scorer Kris Boyd.
Lee Miller put pen to paper and signed a two year deal with Kilmarnock this week. After Kris Boyd signed for Championship club Rangers. Boyd scored 22 times for Kilmarnock last season, arguably keeping them in the Scottish Premiership and it was always expected that after Rangers announced their interest in re-signing the Ayrshire born player he would wish to join the Ibrox club. With Allan Johnston’s Kilmarnock facing a newly promoted Dundee team, on the first game of the season. A Dundee team that will be full of desire to impress manager Paul Hartley, Kilmarnock fans will be hoping for Miller to find his shooting boots as quickly as possible. Kilmarnock also announced the signing of ex Hibernian midfielder Paul Cairney and a two year contract extension of midfielder Sammy Clingan after he impressed following his move to the Rugby Park club last January.
