But others are prepared to go to more extreme lengths to make sure their children look their best, whether it’s by buying them a designer outfit accessorised with a crystalcovered dummy, or hairpieces and spray tans. And it’s not just celebrities who are splashing out – as the documentary Blinging Up Baby, Channel 5, 9pm discovers, a growing number of ordinary mums and dads are giving their toddlers a makeover, creating an industry that’s worth a staggering five billion pounds a year. One woman who has seen

To keep up with demand, Marie is planning to open a high-street boutique and has recruited her family to help, including daughter Hayley, who says: “Once you go into blinging, you can not go back.” One woman who would probably agree is Marie’s customer Sammy, a 26-year-old beautician from Doncaster, who started buying frilly dresses and crystals for one-year-old Halle May before she was even born. Student and single mum Sophie says her own daughters, fouryear-old Princess Bliss Tiana May and one-year-old Precious Bell Ruby Rosina, “are like little
Barbie babies. If Barbie was real, they would be her children.” The girls’ eye-catching look of frothy pink dresses, crystal-studded shoes and spray tans has attracted a lot of negative attention, both on the street and on social networking sites. Sophie May says: “There has been so much nastiness. People have said they want to put Precious into a blender… How can someone say that about a harmless little baby?” Her friends report that she has also had eggs thrown at her window, and that the stress of the situation is starting to take its toll. Some of the mums are also aware that they might also face a backlash from their own children.

A true warrior will stand up for what is right fighting for their principles and values, it’s in their very Soul to defend the real essence of truth and honour.
glen@wosmedia.co.uk david@wosmedia.co.uk
When the soul arrives on this earth, part of the journey is to overcoming challenge and adversity. It’s in the “ attitude” we chose to adopt along with the energy we put into our desires, this is the formula that determines winning the end goal.
Head of Production
To quote Michael Johnston “The only one who can beat me is me.” This is so true, you can win or have anything if you firstly believe and then engage the warrior spirit to help you - only then can your soul experience life in a positive way.

www.glasgow-news.com Or the majority of the people singing and dancing on the pitch at Celtic Park, complete first timers, volunteers, playing their part, sensing the incredible occasion that Glasgow has been rewarded with. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Sure it was kitsch, Lulu, Subo forgetting her words. The Los Angeles residing Glaswegian John Barrowman, chewing the scenery. But all 100% percent Scottish.
John Barrowman, Subo, Desperate Dan, Oor Wullie, Karen Dunbar, wee Amy Macdonald, Calvin Harris choreographing behind the scenes, and so much more. Irn Bru, inventions, shortbread, banter, gutties, trackies. All ours at a canter. Scotland might not have the ability to spend hundreds of millions of pounds in pyrotechnics in the hope of hypnotising the billion or so people viewing at home. But what we do have, and have by the shedload is heart, soul and compassion.
All that was missing was The Krankies, although lets us not mention the “Scottish Athletes uniforms”.
Commonwealth Games traffic plans
Travelling across every continent, 118,000 miles, and the only hiccup? Prince Imran the Commonwealth President having a little trouble retrieving the Queens message from the baton. Whilst the Queen looked on little more than four feet away, trying not to join in with the good natured laugh enjoyed by everyone. Mr Scottish Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy duly stepped in and both men finally managed to wrestle the Queens message from its temporary home. In the Message’s defence, it has been sleeping in the baton chamber for 288 days, you would be slightly unwilling to leave after that. A

With the Commonwealth Games on full flow at the minute, commuters to the events and commuters travelling to work have been reminded that severe travel restrictions and diversions are going to be in place for the entirety of the Commonwealth Games. With nearly one million extra people in the city, public transport systems are expected to be busier than usual and organisers of the Games have urged passengers on non important journeys to reconsider travelling either earlier or later, to avoid the disruption.
Its not to say that Glasgow didn’t put on a fantastic pyrotechnic show. It did and it was spectacular, linking the SECC, Celtic Park and the banks of the Clyde, Glasgow made sure the world enjoyed our “Scottish spectacle” The Commonwealth opening was more than just celebrity appearances, the fireworks and the flying Red Arrows, it was Glasgow and Scotland. Announcing to the Commonwealth....Welcome. From the “Scottie Dugs”, refusing to walk and their walkers carrying them round, as the rapturous crowd applauded.
Commonwealth, where it is still illegal to be gay in more than half the countries taking part. A charity appeal that changed the beginning of every major sporting event...ever. Majestic record breaking 100ft screens, NASA dropping in for a chat, Nelson Mandela, Billy Connolly, Rod Stewart and Nicola Benedetti. Only in Scotland, only in Glasgow. Bold, cheesy, daring, kitsch, loud, exciting, tongue in cheek, fun, passionate and heart-warming. All of above, like every good night in Glasgow should be.
Or to the wee Scottie Dug “couryin” in to the walker as the noise and excitement got to much for “one wee dug”.
Matheson beamed, Salmond was proud and the entire Commonwealth was united.
As the little Tunnocks teacake dancers, all fighting together to help one wee unfortunate dancer who was having a little trouble escaping from her costume.

First Bus have increased the frequency of buses while SPT have increased the frequency of trains to ensure that people will not be waiting too long to be on their way. If in doubt it will be possible to speak to one of the many Games volunteers (Clydesiders) pottered in and around the event areas throughout Glasgow. Almost all of the events and venues are a short distance from Glasgow City Centre, easily accessible by trains, buses, cycling or simply walking the distance. The Games Route Network is in full operation at the minute and incorporates the east of the
city to the southside and also transports people to venues in the west of the city. People have also been reminded that any unauthorised caught using the designated Games Lanes could face a fine of £50 pounds if caught. It has been reported however that no one has been fined for using the Games Lanes illegally yet. During the Commonwealth Games there will be no parking near the venues or stadiums, unless you are a blue badge holder or wheelchair user. There will also be exclusion zones in and around the city, on days when there are specialised events such as the marathon, or the cycling taking place. There will also be additional Games shuttle buses running to Celtic Park, Hampden Park, Ibrox from Stockwell Street to Cathkin Braes and spectators also have free access to all public transport on the days their Commonwealth Games tickets are valid. Glasgow fully booked ahead of Games With a million spectators expected to visit Glasgow over the course of the Commonwealth Games and hundreds of thousands of that number staying within Glasgow, hotels and other alternative accommodation is virtually full. VisitScotland says that 90% of the city’s accommodation is now in use. Even additional spaces set up specifically for the Games are heavily occupied. Snoozebox, who provide a ‘pop-up’ hotel service is at 87% occupancy in it’s unit around the city.
Visitors are now being advised to look at alternatives out with Glasgow as there is now extremely limited availability with the Games upon us.
The increase in demand naturally has caused prices to rise dramatically. Hotel comparison site Trivago show room prices have risen by 158% during the Games. The average price of a hotel is usually £133 but has jumped to £344 for the next week or so. The most expensive night to book would be Sunday, with one night costing around £448 on average. For those willing to brave the elements and still looking for last-minute accommodation for more a more reasonable price, there is still availability with Campingninja who have set up sites throughout the city. With 1,000 pitches, it may be the best option for those still looking and can be booked for £21 per person, per night. By

£100m housing Homeless charity appeal for help development in to wash donated sleeping bags Robroyston takes step forward The Glasgow News reported a few weeks ago on the amazing number of sleeping bags that were donated to Glasgow homeless charity, The Invisibles, by T in the Park goers.
City charity The Invisibles put out an appeal to people to bring back their sleeping bags and donate them, and after receiving more than 1000 bags, they are said to “flabbergasted” at the result. The charity say they have enough sleeping bags to keep the city’s homeless warm for 12 months. However, they are now appealing to local launderettes to help with washing the donated sleeping bags.
Detailed planning applications for the proposed site of 1600 homes in the north of the city have been lodged by housebuilder Stewart Milne. This comes four years after the initial proposal was approved by city planners. The huge development will also include a new rail station and other much needed amenities for the community. A hotel, park and both indoor and outdoor sporting facilities will all be created on the site in Robroyston. North-East Labour councillor Gerry Leonard welcomed this move forward, saying: “I am delighted Robroyston is getting new housing and community facilities because they are badly needed”. Mr Leonard said it is important that Stewart Milne consults local people and businesses to help reduce disruption to local residents during construction.
The new rail station will also provide a park and ride service for users and will help people get into the city centre in just six minutes. Despite the general positive reaction to the proposals, there have been some concerns expressed. SNP councillor Gerry Boyle said “these will be four and five bedroom houses and the local schools don’t have the capacity to take all the children.” Mr Boyle added there may be problems with the extra traffic generated from the new homes increasing road issues in an already busy area. Despite these issues facing the development, it is a much needed boost to the Dalmarnock area to advance the proposal for the new homes and facilities and it will be hoped the first phase of 400 homes will begin construction soon. By
Charity worker Tommy Lamb, from Anniesland, said: “So far we’ve been washing them ourselves. With two going in one cycle our washing machines are taking a pounding. “If there’s a laundry who could help us out, or a business who could cover the laundry bill, we’d be very grateful.” He said: “It’s a great result for the city’s homeless, but I reckon the real story here is just how brilliant the young people have been. “They listened to us on the way out, said to us what a great idea they thought it was, then kept their word
by bringing their bags back and giving them to us.

THE SCOTTISH RESEARCH SOCIETY
With the looming referendum vote just two months away, the people of Scotland are facing a monumental task in deciding the future of their country and the United Kingdom. What they decide will affect generations to come and will impact on the future of the economy, NHS, jobs, the oil industry, and defence." With so much at stake, the Scottish Research Society was formed on 6 May 2014. One of its tasks between now and 18 September 2014 is to research and present the facts about issues that really matter in the Scottish Independence referendum debate."
!
We ask the questions and provide you with the answers to"
• Would the Orkney and Shetland Islands prefer to remain within an independent Scotland, or within the United Kingdom, or gain independence for themselves?" • What are the realities of an independent Scottish economy – in the first year, in the first five years and in the first 10 years?" •Will you still be paid all your welfare entitlements from Day 1 in an independent Scotland?" •Will you still enjoy the same level of access to a National Health Service?" • Will leading companies really move out of Scotland and what would that mean for Scottish jobs and prospects?" •Will an independent Scotland join the EU?"
!
The Scottish Research Society has commissioned projects to look into these issues and more because we believe someone has to and we believe that you have a right to know." We will be keeping you up to date with these issues and stories you may have missed, or may want to be reminded of, through our daily press briefing, our social media network, including Facebook and Twitter, and our website.

A potential walk out of First Glasgow engineers was avoided at the last minute with a compromise being reached over pay increases.
The dispute, which could have caused chaos during the Commonwealth Games, began after workers felt the initial offer of a 0.5% wage increase was derisory. After negotiations – and a rejection of an improved offer of a 1.2% rise for the next two years – a deal that will see the engineers receive an increase of 1.8% a year. aspirations for a decent pay increase and ultimately we’ve been proved right – 3.5% over two years is a significant mark-up on the initial offer of 0.5%”. First Glasgow will be delighted to avoid industrial action at a time when public transport across Glasgow will be vital in ensuring the success of the Commonwealth Games. The deal has left union officials questioning why it has taken so long to produce a suitable deal. Fiona Kerr, managing director of First Glasgow, said: “I’m pleased that we’ve successfully resolved this dispute and that our customers will be spared any inconvenience that might have been caused by industrial action”. EAST Games beach created in East End
With temperatures soaring across the city, Elcho Gardens in the east end has been transformed into a beach as part of ongoing Games celebrations. A £9500 grant from four lottery organizations – Big Lottery Fund, Creative Scotland, Heritage Lottery Fund and SportScotland – have made the event possible in the Calton area of the city. Almost thirty tons of sand have been brought in to create the seaside scene, with council workers raking the sand to ensure its safe use. The ocean – here the local pool – is being filled by local firefighters each morning. The organisers have focused on different countries with Indian,

A sixteen year old boy needed hospital treatment after two men and a woman forced their way into his home, struck him with a blunt weapon, fracturing his skull in the process. Two business owners have revealed how their stolen van was tracked down via Facebook just hours after it was taken. Ian Gerrard, 40, woke in the middle of the night to find his £25,000 Mercedes Vito had been stolen from outside his Bridgeton home. Business partner Andy Cairney posted a Facebook appeal at 7.30am, it was shared more than 500 times within 30 minutes and three hours later someone spotted the vehicle after seeing their post online. The Merc was found in a street in Glasgow’s Dennistoun. Police Scotland seized the van and are currently examining it for fingerprints. Ian said: “I woke up because my front door was lying open and I could feel a draught. I’d left my keys in the door, so whoever took the van must have fished them through the letterbox and got into my house for the van keys. “I called Andy and asked him to put an appeal on Facebook, along with a photo of the van...I can’t believe it was successful. “It’s amazing to think that the power of social media tracked the van down before the police.”

Glasgow City Council announce £1million Loan Fund Glasgow City Council today (Tuesday 22 July) announced the introduction of a new £1million Glasgow Business Transfer Loan Fund (GBTLF) in a bid to protect jobs put at risk when businesses close.
The programme, developed in partnership with Strathclyde University, will offer funding and support to help entrepreneurs and existing business owners to purchase an established going concern. Speaking ahead of the opening of the Glasgow Business Embassy, a part of Scotland House during the XX Commonwealth Games, Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “There are currently five times as many firms for sale in Glasgow than there were a decade ago, and in terms of survival rates, only 30% of start-ups survive after five years compared to 95% when an existing business transfers to a new owner.
Firefighters called to Science Centre tower.
“More than 99% of businesses in Glasgow are small to medium enterprises, providing two in every three private sector jobs. It is crucial, therefore, that we do everything in our power to help safeguard these jobs.” Entrepreneurs and existing business owners who are actively seeking to take over a business are eligible to apply for the GBTLF. Funding will be provided where a viable business case and feasibility study have been completed in support of the transfer of a business from one owner to another that would otherwise not have taken place, due to lack of funding. Buyers will also need to demonstrate the safeguarding of jobs and/or the potential for future growth as part of their take-over bid. Councillor Matheson added: “Business succession, whether in family or non-family firms, has the potential to make or break a company. Managed well, it can help a company sustain its competitive advantage. Managed badly, however, it has the

potential to cause a business fail in a very short space of time. To help to combat this, the Business Transfer Loan Fund will also provide buyers with access to advice from legal and financial experts to ensure the success of the transfer.” The fund forms part of a wider set of measures announced at the 16th State of the City Economy conference last year to support the creation of 2,000 new businesses in Glasgow by 2017. Tel: 0141 778 8335 Protect your pet from pesky parasites! The warmer months are peak season for pesky parasites like fleas and ticks. Fleas are a major source of irritation to pets and owners alike. They feed on the animal’s blood and multiply rapidly to cause an infestation. As well as being found on your pet they will live in the carpets and bedding at home. Fleas are responsible for transmitting tapeworms in pets so worming your pet if you find fleas is also advisable. Ticks are found mainly in woodland areas or on the hills and moor land but can be found in areas of long grass, especially if deer or hedgehogs are in the area. Ticks also feed on your pets’ blood and can cause serious diseases such as Lyme’s disease as well as a reaction to the bite itself. It is important never to pull a tick from your pet’s body. This can result in the tick’s head being left in the skin, causing infection, pain and irritation. Tick removers are available to ensure safe and complete removal.
Angiostrongylus vasorum (also known as French Heartworm) is a parasite that infects dogs. The adult worms live in the heart and large blood vessels supplying the lungs and can cause a whole host of problems in affected animals and if left untreated it can be fatal. The lungworm parasite is carried by slugs and snails, which are often eaten by dogs on purpose or accidentally when attached to toys or grass or in outdoor water bowls. Symptoms range from breathing problems, blood clotting problems, general weakness and depression and even sudden collapse and death. Infection can be prevented by using a specific spot on preparation, available from your vet.
Lungworm is another parasite that is becoming increasingly common. The lungworm

A fire started due to an overheating cable in the tower’s lift motor room. Firefighters were called to the scene but the flames had already been put out by the crew of HMS Bangor which is situated nearby. After being closed for almost four years, the tower was opened on Saturday. This incident is just one in a long line of problems that have arose in the tower since it opened in 2001. The £5 million tower was closed after it was found the elevators were too heavy which caused overheating in the mechanism. Additionally, the ball bearing which held the weight of the entire structure had sunk by almost an inch.
lengthy closures and it was hoped that the recent reopening would see a period of uninterrupted service for the public. The tower, which originally would rotate fully from top to bottom, has been largely disastrous. The concept for the tower worked in theory but when put into practice has largely failed to live up to it’s capabilities. A spokeswoman for the Science Centre said: “We should emphasise that the tower was not in operation when the incident occurred as it had closed for the day. There was no risk to the general public at any stage”. Whilst being closed, refurbishments had taken place in the tower. New technology was added to the viewing cabin, as well as a new interactive experience area at the base. The intention was to keep the tower open throughout the summer before closing on the second of November.

the Rugby 7’s competition, former Rangers star Mark Hateley and Chief Executive Officer Graham Wallace, jumped in to pose for a photograph. After passing the baton, Mr Singh and his friends and family (all kitted out in t-shirts with his photograph, when he joined the police and present) were invited into the stadium. Mr Singh was delighted with the turnout. He said: “It was out of this world, it was fantastic. I wasn’t expecting half of the people to turn up!”
His family also managed to keep it quiet from him, he revealed: “To dig out the old photograph – from 1970 when I joined the police, 44 years ago - and the current photograph and put it together, it was a complete surprise.” It was through his love of sport that he became involved with the Queens Baton Relay. Mr Singh is a director for the Sports Council for Glasgow
at the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC), the ViceChairperson for the Sports Council for Glasgow, a member of the Govan Rotary club, the president of the The Scottish Ethnic Minority Sports Association (SEMSA) and is also a director at Glasgow Life, which is responsible for providing all the Commonwealth Games venues.
He isn’t a stranger of the stadium, as speaks on his work at SEMSA, they play one year at Rangers Football Club, then they next year at Celtic Football Park. He added: “You’ve got to keep everyone happy. Even in my family, they all support different teams!” It doesn’t stop there, Singh explained: “I also a do a lot of charity work, I do fundraising for different charities. There was one in particular where we raised thousands of pounds for
an Indian charity, the girls were abandoned and on one day they celebrate the birthday for all 65 girls who don’t know when they were born. It’s never stopping, there is never a limit.” As if his list of achievements wasn’t full enough, he has been awarded an MBE, and is due to meet the Queen next month. He said: “That was out the blue. The MBE was related to my connection with both sport and the community. I’ve been playing sport since my late teens and I run classes, badminton clubs, marathons, I love giving up my time. I was very fortunate to be awarded it for two reasons. You can see how many people turned up, and you can see there must have been something i’m doing right! By

Demise of local paper the Govan Press Free newspaper, the Govan Press, has sadly come to an end, after the Editorial Director and Publisher made the decision to step down.
The Govan Press and its sister titles, the Southside Press and East Renfrewshire Press, were fortnightly free papers, with a distribution of around 10,000 copies of each title.
In the tough industry of free newspapers, Editor John Maclean has revealed the workload is the reason for stepping down. Maclean bought the Govan Press six years ago when it was a monthly title with sixteen pages.
“Unfortunately, I feel at this stage that I have to step off the hamster wheel and catch a breath” said Maclean. In an announcement, Maclean said: “I’m so proud of what the sales director, and I achieved in taking over the Govan Press, turning it into a group of papers with 32 great-looking pages distributed every two weeks, covering Govan, south side of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.
“The papers were very popular with both readers and advertisers in what is a very competitive area.” “We had built up a great following and a bank of regular advertisers.” “My thanks go to all our contributors, supporters and readers.” By

Dreams really do come true at Slimming World! A happy couple from Parkhead say their relationship is stronger than ever after losing a combined weight of 9st and finally putting their dreams of having a family together into a reality. Evelyn and Colin Jackson have transformed their lives since joining Parkhead Slimming World and are now on their way to achieving their dreams. The pair, who have been married for 9 years, decided to join Slimming World after realising that their weight was putting their health at risk and most importantly of all stopping their chances of conceiving. After being told that in order to be accepted for IVF treatment, Evelyn had to lose 7 stone. Since current criteria within Scotland states that women must have a BMI of 29.9 or less to be accepted for treatment, the couple decided to join. Evelyn says: “I think it’s easy for couples to become comfortable with one another and over time daily family life takes priority over your weight and health. Convenience foods
are so tempting when you’re busy. So like most people our weight crept up gradually.” The couple are no longer part of that statistic. Evelyn has lost 6st 3 lbs and Colin has dropped 3st 2lbs by following Slimming World’s Food Optimising healthy eating plan. Evelyn, 33, says: “I’d say our relationship is much stronger now. We can finally see future which involves us creating our own family. Being able to do this together as a couple and support each other has brought us so much closer together.” Kathleen, who runs the Parkhead and Carntyne groups , and is also
relaunching the Cranhill group on Tuesday 15th July says: “Evelyn and Colin are living proof that slimmers are more successful when they lose weight with a friend or loved one. Some men think that slimming clubs are just for women but that’s just not true, everyone’s welcome. It’s been a pleasure to watch Evelyn and Colin slim down – they’re a real inspiration to the rest of the group, including me.”

SOUL
Warrior A true warrior will stand up for what is right fighting for their principles and values, it’s in their very Soul to defend the real essence of truth and honour. When the soul arrives on this earth, part of the journey is to overcoming challenge and adversity. It’s in the “ attitude” we chose to adopt along with the energy we put into our desires, this is the formula that determines winning the end goal. To quote Michael Johnston “The only one who can beat me is me.” This is so true, you can win or have anything if you firstly believe and then engage the warrior spirit to help you - only then can your soul experience life in a positive way. We cannot underestimate the power of any life lesson though as they come at us thick and fast in our everyday life but it is all in the way wee handle them that either produces a positive or negative experience.
Are you in pain or suffering with a medical problem and cannot get any form of relief? I can offer an alternative form of healing to help with imbalances in mind, body and spirit. Clinics held in various locations, please visit website for further details.

Ancient SOUL Warriors....
Samurai, Viking, Aztec, Mongol and the Apache The warrior spirit has existed throughout the ages in every culture and will continue to do so, during our life cycle we go through various stages with this spirit: at an early age we fight to walk, talk and take our place in the world - leading into early teens when we become the rebel without a
cause thinking we are invincible to the latter part of life when we understand that there is more than one way to fight a battle – at this stage the soul has come a long way and knows that knowledge is power. Real warriors are those whom we respect
and look up to as role models – for kid’s it’s the super hero’s and the celebrities, for adults perhaps a parent or a figure that stands out for them, maybe someone who made history. The spirit needs a challenge to give it new goals to aim for in our life so; using my psychic powers I have connected with some
ancient warrior energies to provide you with
a spiritual message of courage to help you face these challenges head on.
Simply take a look at all of the warriors - see which one you are drawn to then read the message of courage.
Samurai
Viking
Aztec
Mongol
Apache
They started out as debt collectors and bodyguards before the noble code of honor came into play and they became respected an elite military fighting machines, whose honor was the most important things to them.
I can now see where we get the word Berserk from, these warriors would be on a high working themselves up into frenzy before heading into battle making themselves fearsome with their unorthodox ways.
Known as the “Shorn Ones” they went into battle wearing animal skins and feathers from the eagle and Jaguar - armed with Clubs and Bows they were well known for their skills.
I would run for my life if I seen the likes of Genghis Kahn coming my direction, these warriors used great strategy in battle and were also masters at psychological warfare - a real force to be reckoned with and a formidable enemy.
They were almost ninja like as they crept up on their opponent and did the deed – well known for their hand-to-hand combat with no fear they stood their ground and fought for both their land and their values.
Message - If you have chosen this warrior then the message for you is connected with a situation that you need to stand up to however, you may be torn between your emotional heartstrings and what the real truth is. You need to be true to yourself and let nothing stand in your way or brow beat you into submission.Your responsibility is to yourself first and foremost and everything else comes after – this is about standing in your own power.
Message – the attitude that you adopt will be your ally and help you to over - come anything that stands in your way especially where authority issues are concerned. However, you don’t need to go berserk, as this could be the very thing that pulls you down so, look at other ways of achieving your end goals without brut force. Ultimately these warriors were the shape shifters changing their form from one thing to another and this is what you need to do as it keeps your opponent on their toes not knowing what is coming next.
Wonders Little Shop
Of
Message – there are times when you need to adopt the role of someone other than yourself, this helps you to step outside of the problem and see it in a whole new light. Whatever is happening around you just now my psychic senses tell me that this warrior would say - you should be looking around you to see who your real allies are. Charlatans or those who pay lip service are not helpful and your mission is to oust them out and reclaim your own power.
Message – the mind really is a powerful tool and you can use it to turn things to your own advantage so, consider your position carefully before diving into any situation and as they say, pick your battle carefully but most of all - don’t get involved in the mind games of others. By doing this you stand a far better chance of winning the war and coming out the victor of your challenges. Sense and use your intuition to uncover what is happening, then tap into your gut feel for the best course of action to take.

Message – I am sensing from this warrior that the message for you is all about protecting your family values and ensuring that no one over steps the mark. I feel it is time for you to see through the certain forked tongues and communicate loud and clear that you have your boundaries and that they are there for a reason. Challenging situations are there as tests us and even though its not easy I sense that you will come out a stronger person and see your own true potential as a result.

Are you Adult Indigo? So what is an Indigo Adult? During the 1970’s the first Indigo children began to be noticed – they were here to fulfill a mission or purpose and part of this mission was to shift the consciousness of humanity – no pressure there then. They were known as the Warrior spirits, the trailblazers who would challenge authority and the ways in which we did things with the aim of making things better and simpler.
• Their over all passion will be to bring about change in the world in some way and they are certainly not driven by money – the mission is way more important.
Yet, in saying this, they have a deep sensitivity and a love that you can’t help but see as their eyes tell the whole story – they are big and penetrate into your very soul as if knowing everything about you, which, could be a bit scary for some.
• Not suffering fools gladly their face tells the story.
But there sense of truth and value is of the upmost important to them and they stand up for what they believe in so disloyalty or dishonesty does not sit well with them and they rebel against it. They take things very much to heart and if you hurt them it goes deep and it takes them a long time to get over it as they don’t understand why this would happen in the first place. An Indigo as a friend, partner, child or business colleague would be at your side to help in times of need and God help anyone who upsets or harms you as they will fight your corner.
How do you know if you are an adult Indigo? • If they can’t work for themselves then they want to be the one in charge running the whole show. • They are highly creative and need to be doing things all the time, as they get bored easily. • They always need to know the reasoning behind everything so - a common word for them would be WHY - not out of nosiness, they just want to understand things down to the finest detail. • Not a fan of authority, they rebel against it along with rules or regulations as they don’t sit well with them and this becomes a challenge for them.
• They jump from one conversation to another and - even though folk can’t follow it at times, they know exactly where they are in it. This is because they work at a faster pace than most but - expect others to keep up.
How to work get the best from an Indigo:
Tarot Card of the Week The tarot is an ancient and powerful divination tool that has been used for centuries, its hard to pin point exactly where it originated but what we do know is that the rich and famous have consulted it to assist them in their life. Using the tarot the reader taps into it’s hidden mysteries and symbolic connections to provide the client with what lie ahead and from there they make their own choices and decisions. Each week I will be taking a look at one card from the deck and explaining what it means.
This week I have chosen the Eight of Wands: This card links with the suit of wands and they are all about career, the Aha moments when we have the spark of creativity that comes out of the Blue and also they are the Fire element and connect with the star signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The Eight of wands comes along when things are happening fast and especially in the work place. If you have been looking for a new job or in fact a change then this card suggest swift moves and a positive outcome. The deeper spiritual meaning of the card is all about a divine connection and I sense this to be about tapping into your own intuition and senses, as that is where you will find the answers to your questions. The number eight in itself forms the shape of the infinity sign and means that there is no ending only a continuation in a different form so – when faced with a situation that feels like the end know there is something more to come forward.
• Offer them as many choices or options as possible and don’t lay down ridged or hard rules, as they will fight it. • Always have an explanation of the end goal and the steps leading up to it. • They like the art of negotiation and respect this so engage them in this and they will be happy to play ball.
Indigo children: Don’t expect an Indigo to conform to the normal workings of things, anything but, they will test you and others to the limit until they are satisfied that it works and in their way.

Joan Charles I am delighted to be delivering your stars although; I won’t be doing them in the traditional way, as I am not an astrologer. For many years I have provided the stars using Tarot cards and that is what I will be doing here so, I guess in a sense they should be called, Taroscopes. Did You KNOW?
Aries
Well, you’re on a roll and no one can stop you from getting your goal and that’s all you have on your mind at the moment. I sense there will be a bit of luck on your side and so your making things happen effortlessly.
Taurus
Now we all know that you can charge in like the bull in the china shop when the notion takes you however, you may need to ask yourself if this is the best way to get results? Maybe a softer approach would get you what you’re looking for.
Gemini
Work, work and more work, this is not a balanced way to move forwards and to be honest what will it get you in the long run? Perhaps you need to look at your priorities and put yourself at the top.
Cancer Instincts and intuition are no stranger to you and if you can tap into them and make them work for you then you’ve won a watch. During this time pay attention to what your dreams are trying to tell you.
Leo
Finances could be a little out of sync and you may need to give them some attention to make sure that they are heading in the right direction. Where there is financial outlay just make sure it’s for the right reasons.
Virgo It would seem that emotionally you are at sixes and sevens and that you are trying too hard in a certain situation. Perhaps if you back off a little things will find their own balance and harmony.
Libra
Your not one to readily admit defeat however there is something just not that’s pulling you down, something that you want to off load and the more you think about it the more difficult it seems – change your tack on this and see what happens.
Scorpio
Well, your cup is over following and I sense this is in all areas of your life but more especially where romance is concerned. You are in a good place and life is quite happily floating along.
Sagittarius
How could you make your cash work better for you? This is the thoughts you may be having right now and I feel that you could be looking into and researching ways to make this happen.
Capricorn Well being is at the top of your list of to do’s – you seem to be looking at ways in which you can bring more equilibrium into your life to get more you time and enjoyment out of life – be focused on your own needs.
Aquarius Things look as if they are at full capacity right now where
work is concerned and you will be need organization if you are to get through everything and see the end result you are aiming for.
Pisces
The working environment is perhaps not as smooth running as you would like and this could mean a few issues to deal with. I sense two things that are getting in the way and if they were changed it feels as though everything would flow nicely.

Some famous American Presidents have enlisted the assistance of Psychics in the past to help with some major decisions of state. Abraham Lincoln would hold séances in the Whitehouse and was interested in spiritualism from a young age. He was considered by many to be a very intuitive person himself and would meditate regularly – he even termed himself a “ mystic” and had many prophetic dreams. Nettie Colburn Maynard was only 21 years of age when she visited the President at the Whitehouse at the request of his wife, while there she fell into a trance state and was able to give him information about matters of great importance concerning the state, this was not the only time she gave the president advice. The president had a belief in all things psychic and spiritual and conducted his life in such a manner.

Each week Joan will provide messages from your loved ones in the spirit world with the aim of providing comfort. If you read one of the messages and feel that it connects with you message Joan and let her know. SPIRIT CONNECTIONS
I have the sense of a younger male in spirit and I feel this would have been your Brother who passed over a number of years ago I’m feeling this was as a result of an accident where he drowned and he would have been around the age of 11 when this took place. He is with you and has been watching over you and he is saying that you have been under a lot of pressure with emotions and work and that this has been getting to you and he is trying to send you some good energy to help life things. He says that you often chat away to him asking for help and that he wants you to know that he hears you and that you are not to feel alone. Since he passed there have been a lot of changes in the family and he is with a male figure in the spirit world that is with him and they look after each other. There is also a baby that was miscarried and it is also with them. He takes me towards Inverness and also Aberdeen areas and you will understand why this is but its evidence that he is there for you.
SPIRIT CONNECTIONS
I am hearing over and over Saint Teresa and I sense that you have been praying to her for help with a situation that involves a child that seems to have gone off the rails and where you feel that this is out of control and I have to tell you that your prayers are heard and will be answered. I’m told this from a lady whom I feel was a good friend on the earth plane and she has passed over to the higher side of life now. I can see so many good times and she
takes me to Ardrossan where I sense she may have lived – she shows me the ferry terminal there and I feel this is a memory of days gone by when you both may have got on the boat and headed off for a wee break. You have moved since she passed over and this is just so you know she is still watching over you and she can see your worry for this child whom I feel is a grand child that you are close to. I sense this is a phase the child is going through and I do feel they will come out of it so you just need to go with the flow for now.
SPIRIT CONNECTIONS
The gentleman I have in spirit tells me he could eat Camembert cheese to a band playing and that he loved the finer things in life but was never greedy in fact I sense he was a very generous man who would have given you his last. I’m seeing a Hovis loaf and have to clue as to what that means, perhaps someone worked in a bakery or it was his thing I don’t really know but you will know what it means. He is giving the names Jeanie, Susan and Sarah and again they will connect with either you or him but the reason he comes forward is to tell you that he loves you so much and he knows that you know this but its as if you just need that little bit of reassurance just now as you appear to have come through a wee low spell which, he tells me you quickly pick yourself up from but you so you know he is there. I get the name of Alex linked with this man and he is saying that he is in spirit with a Brother called Bill. He says that it was cancer that he passed over with but that he did fight back giving his all. On your marks - get set - GlasGO! The 2014 Games go off with a bang!
On Wednesday, as one billion people tuned in from all over the world, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games started with a bang. With performances from Rod Stewart, Amy McDonald and Susan Boyle, all eyes were on Scotland. John Barrowman and Karen Dunbar’s opening performance featured all the Scottish cliches including an inflatable Nessie, giant Tunnocks Tea Cakes and a giant kilt. It represented Scotland – vibrant, funny and not afraid of taking the mick out of ourselves. As well as entertaining our visitors from across the globe, we were welcoming them. As each of the 71 countries joined the party, they were joined by a scotty dog. Knowing that people, worldwide, would be watching at the same time, the opportunity was seized to donate £5 to Unicef and raised £3.1 million. The ceremony was an amazing start, to what is going to be a fantastic competition. Here is a guide to everything you need to know if you are attending any sessions.

FRIDAY 25- -THURSDAY THURSDAY JULY FRIDAY 18 24 31 JULY
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules battles terrifying foes in a fresh and visceral new take on this legendary action hero. Having completed his character-defining twelve labours, tormented Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) has become a battle-weary warrior who leads a band of mercenaries. The King of Thrace (John Hurt) calls upon him to help end a bloody civil conflict by defeating a savage, brutal warlord. Now Hercules must find the strength to become a hero again. But this will not simply be a battle against a formidable enemy, but a fight for his very soul! ‘Fast & Furious’ star Dwayne Johnson underwent eight months of serious working out for his role as the legendary Greek demi-god tough guy. ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ director Brett Ratner brilliantly conjures up such mythological enemies as the hydra and gargantuan boar, while rooting his ‘Hercules’ in heartpounding, grittily realistic warfare. The exceptional supporting cast includes Brits Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell and Joseph Fiennes.
Kick (Bollywood) Salman Khan stars in an intoxicating Bollywood action-romance about a man who lives for the thrill of the adrenaline rush. Psychiatrist Shaina (Jacqueline Fernandez) is about to marry Indian police officer Himanshu (Radeep Hooda). Neither of them are delighted at the prospect of this arranged union. But when they meet on a train journey to Warsaw, the couple quickly form a firm friendship. Shaina talks about her previous relationship with thrill-seeker Devi (Salman Khan), whose life is devoted to the pursuit of kicks. Himanshu reciprocates with the tale of how he finally met his match in the form of a very clever thief. But what they don’t realise is that they’re both talking about the same man! And when Devi re-enters their lives, a deeper mystery unfolds - with deadly consequences. ‘Dabangg’ superstar Salman Khan leads the superlative cast of this remake of the Telugu hit of the same name, which was partly shot on location in Glasgow.
EARTH TO ECHO A trio of kids find their lives changed forever when they befriend an alien being with amazing powers! Tuck (Astro), Munch (Reese Hartwig) and Alex (Teo Halm) are at a crossroads in their young lives. Fed up with being well-behaved nobodies, they face separation when a massive highway construction project forces their families to move away. With just two days to go before this big upheaval, the lads find a curious signal on their mobile phones. Filming their adventure, they head into the desert to trace its source. Here they find an alien entity that seems to be stranded on Earth. They call their new friend Echo and find that it has incredible abilities. But sinister government forces are also on Echo’s tail! This first feature from a talented writer/director team features a fresh young cast and balances breathtaking ‘Transformers’-style sci fi with a heartfelt story of childhood friendship.
THE PURGE America’s annual night of mayhem gets even scarier in this edge-of-seat sequel to the futuristic horror hit. In nearfuture America, the Purge has become established as a national event. Each year, all crime is legal during one allocated twelve-hour period - even murder. Emergency services are suspended and ordinary citizens are warned to keep off the streets to avoid getting caught up in the carnage. But for one young couple (Zack Gilford, Kiele Sanchez) in Los Angeles, disaster strikes when their car breaks down just as the Purge begins. Elsewhere in the city, an armed man (Frank Grillo) takes to the streets bent on revenge and two women (Carmen Ejogo, Zoe Soul) are dragged from their home by sinister uniformed figures. The fight for survival has begun! Writer/director James DeMonaco’s dystopian nightmare thriller ‘The Purge’ was a surprise box office hit last year. Now he returns to amp up the tension with this nerve-shredding sequel.

ome parents consider their kids to be reasonably well-dressed if they’ve only got one item of food slopped down their t-shirt. One woman who has seen
the market grow is Marie Fullerton, who has been making bespoke children’s wear for 25 years, and is currently busier than she’s ever been as customers ask her to transform everything from potties to prams. Although money is tight, the little

girl’s wardrobe is worth thousands, and Sammy scours online boutiques for new designer clothes, which she orders months in advance. The proud mum doesn’t believe her attitude is that unusual, saying: “I think that every woman thinks of their daughter as a doll.” However, the documentary makes it clear that not everyone approves of blinged-up babies.

Kirstie Allsopp Kirstie’s Fill Your House for Free Channel 4, 8pm Glasgow couple Christine and Chris have just bought their first home and have little money for décor. Chris is a graphic designer, so has a good eye – and therein lies the problem. He knows what he wants, and it’s not something that can be bought “off the peg” at your typical furniture store. Also in need of help is single mum-of-two Helen, who’s recently moved back to the UK after 14 years in France and wants to give her new bedroom a makeover.

The Smart Girls Guide to... Being a Savvy Shopper 3. Don’t buy on impulse
We all need to indulge in a bit of retail therapy every now and again, however it’s not always easy finding the funds. Whether you’re saving for a holiday, treating the kids or moving home, there always seems to be somewhere else your money could be better spent instead of those Zara heels. That is why I’ve came up with my top tips for shopping on a budget...
1. Get Back to Basics The high street is girls best friend when it comes to shopping for basics. H&M, New Look and Primark have a great range of t-shirts and vests. That way you can afford to splurge a bit more on a more expensive bag.
2. DIY! No we are not talking about putting up shelves, we mean clothes! Love that designer tie-dye t-shirt? Buy a white cotton one and dye it yourself! Need those expensive ripped jeans in your life? Bu a pair from Topshop and rip them yourself. There are lots of tutorials online on how to do both.
It’s the moment of truth, you are standing in River Island clutching a pair of boots you just MUST have. But before you rush to the check-out, ask yourself ‘do I really need these?’ If you can’t make up your mind, leave them and go and have a coffee or a wander about before buying them (ask a shop assistant to keep them behind the till if there aren’t many pairs). Scottish beauty must-haves revealed By
With the addition of a new Superdrug store opening last week in the Glasgow Fort, the beauty habits of Scottish women have been revealed. When it comes to pampering and preening, us Scottish lassies love quick cleansing, body fragrance and maintaining our eyebrows, according to Superdrug.
We love making sure our brows are groomed to perfection and have embraced brow threading. Brow threading originated in India and the Far East and can be carried out across any of the 24 Brow Bars across Scottish Superdrug stores.

I was told about Liz Earle products by a friend, who wouldn’t stop raving about the hot cloth treatment. Me, being me, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and couldn’t wait to try it – and I was not disappointed. I received a set with three productsto cleanse, tone and moisturise. The Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser works together with a pure muslin cloth to gently clean deep into your pores and clear away dead skin cells. As you pump it out it feels thick and luxurious, and as you massage it into the face it feels more like a mask. You then use the muslin cloth (you get 2 cloths) which cleanses your make up off, including waterproof mascara. Skin feel soft and

plump, as you can actually feel the moisturiser sinking in. The next step is the Instant Boost Skin Tonic toner, which softens and smooths the skin. It left my skin glowing. As its alcohol-free it doesn’t dry out the skin. Finally, the Skin Repair Moisturiser is applied, which is incredibly conditioning. It contains natural antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin E to replace lost moisture and help protect against dryness. I’ve been using the three products twice a day and I can honestly say I have noticed a difference. My skin is less dry and flaky and it’s glowing. For under £50 for the entire three step routine it’s reasonable considering the small
amount you use each time. It gets my approval, and will continue to use it in the future.

Council approves £3.5m redevelopment of Dalkeith Country Park The refurbishment will include the stable yard, orangery and amphitheatre. A new adventure playground will also be built, along with an improved cafe, bakery and retail shops.
The development of the park, which is owned by the Duke of Buccleuch, is expected to create around 35 jobs and help conserve historic buildings on the estate. Manager Ian Herbert said he is “thrilled” that the plans have been given the go-ahead. He said: “As well as creating jobs this significant investment will play an important part in facilitating economic development and growth in the region. “Since the planning application was submitted in February we have been canvassing views via an online survey and are continuing to liaise with key stakeholders and partners including Scottish Natural Heritage and Historic
Scotland. Our next step will be an open day in August where we will be in a position to share more of our plans in detail with the local community.” The plans have been approved by Midlothian Council and the contract for the first work is due to go out for tender. Cllr Jim Bryant said: “Dalkeith Country Park is a great asset to our local community and provides both visitors and locals with a beautiful spot to enjoy the great outdoors. It is also the venue for many large scale events, such as Tough Mudder, which brings a wealth of visitors to our area. “In fact, this year, we’re looking forward to a bumper year at our second Midfest Festival with some events taking place in the park. We are delighted to be working in partnership with both the park and Historic Scotland to bring these redevelopment plans to fruition.” By

PROPERTY Athletes Village to be turned into Green houses in the aftermath of the Games.
With the Commonwealth games upon us, the legacy of what will be left after the events end is already under examination. The Athletes’ Village development that will be transformed into family homes is one of the major benefits that will be left for the residents in Glasgow’s east end.
The Village is also home to an impressive energy centre which will help residents by drastically reducing their future energy bills. The state of the art heating system will provide instant heat and constant hot water to all the homes in the development and at a lower cost than traditional, less efficient systems.
City Legacy delivered the awardwinning village which will host 6500 athletes and officials from around the world while they compete at the Games and reaction to the development has been overwhelmingly positive. Slight alterations will be made to make the homes more suitable for residential use after the athletes depart, however this has not stopped home-buyers with 238 of the 242 homes available already having been reserved.
Other features on the site which follow the high efficiency, low cost model include double glazing, solar panels and thermal insulation. The creation of affordable, family homes in what was recently a tired area of the city is certainly a huge positive in the Games’ legacy. It will also serve as a distinct and memorable reminder of the event to the people of Glasgow and hopefully demonstrate some of the long-lasting benefits of hosting the event for the city.
With a variety of different styles it is hoped they will become home to a vibrant community in the once run-

Downsizing trend set to continue
Home-owners of a certain age are reversing the trend of up-sizing their house and are looking at moving to smaller homes within the next five years. The age group with the largest percentage of people considering downsizing from their current home is between the ages of 70 and 79. 52% per cent of 70-79 year olds are considering moving to a smaller home, with 39% percent of 60-69 year olds also considering downsizing as well. Home-owners considering downsizing will have raised their children in the home and although at one time it probably seemed as if the house was too small, now seems too vast once their children have flown the proverbial nest. It has been said that if the baby boomer generation start to move to smaller accommodation it could go a long way to easing the current housing crisis, by increasing supply and thus would halt the ever increasing housing bubble currently enveloping the market. Stephanie McMahon of Strutt & Parker said of the current downsizing trend “There is no doubt that downsizing is a consistent trend. Some 72% per cent of
the people we surveyed are planning on moving in the next five years. “The UK has a housing shortage, however, we are also a nation of under occupiers and the move towards smaller homes will stay constant or increase over the coming years as the large group of UK baby boomers move into retirement and beyond,” Ms McHahon explained. It’s a worrying time for homeowners at the minute, with many fearing that a rise in interest rates would lead them to defaulting on repayments of their mortgage, and could lead to another housing bubble burst, aspects of which led to the recession. According to Prudential, there are over two million downsizers which fit into the over 55s baby boomers category, often with grown up with children owning properties worth in excess of £750,000.
Thief-proof your home this summer
PROPERTY
Summer is one of the most popular times of the year when thieves attack, as it is the ideal time to break into your home. With the warm evenings, many people are out in the back garden having a barbecue – with the front door unlocked. Warmer weather also encourages us to open windows and often forgetting to close them before going out. However, the main reason summer is when burglaries are the most rife is because a lot of people often go away on holiday – leaving their home empty. However, don’t fear, here are our top tips for preventing a break in – a little extra precaution could make all the difference... Don’t announce the news on social
media. Posting about your upcoming fortnight in Malaga on Facebook and Twitter is an invitation to burglars in the area. It’s also a wise idea to turn off location settings when putting up posts, and hold off putting up photos until after you come back.

Scots come tops in passing driving test
Scotland comes tops in passing their test, a study reveals. Learners who are taking their first driving test are twice as likely to pass in Scotland than those living in London, according to an analaysis of driving test results. The study reveals that the centres with the four lowest pass rates in the UK are in London, for those sitting their test for the first time.
The Renault ZOE was being test driven last weekend in certain areas, it has been on sale now for about a year but you will be forgiven if you don’t recognize the name. This super-mini sized all electrical vehicle has managed to scoop a barrage of awards including “Best Electric Car of the Year” at last years Scottish Car of the Year awards (SCOTY), although it has its flaws. With the batteries weighing in at 290kg it isn’t exactly spritely off the line with it taking 13.5 seconds to reach 60mph and with a more realistic 90miles of charge than Renaults 130miles max range it does need to be charged fairly regularly, even with
Renault throwing in a free wall-box fitted in your home by British Gas and a new Chameleon Charger allowing for charging time of between 30mins and 9hours, it will be on the plug more than the road. As a car for driving around the city it certainly would be ideal, with a low price tag and gutsy feel from torque being available at 0rpm. I just can’t escape the feeling though, they have lost out to the better choice of a Hybrid which would be able to take you further without having to plug it in and that name, along with the Vauxhall ADAM, doesn’t sit well. Imagine having to say “I’m away to just plug in my ZOE”? By

Improvements planned for major road The next phase of a major roads improvement programme will get under way next month.
Work will be carried out on East Kilbride Road for eight days from Tuesday 5 August. The programme will see the road resurfaced as well as improvements to drains, white lines repainted and some kerbs repaired. The stretch of the road affected runs from The Crescent in Busby to the
South Lanarkshire boundary.
East Kilbride Road will remain reopen throughout and temporary traffic lights will be in place.
It was announced that the four lowest pass rates were; 31% of learner drivers in Belvedere, 32% in Wanstead, 32% in Barking and 33% in Wood Green. However, it seems that bonny Scotland dominates the top of the table for successful first time learner drivers, with a 70% pass rate in Kelso. Lochgilphead (69%) and Stranraer (67%) were other top scorers. By

Motorists urged to have vehicle serviced before holiday Thousand of car drivers and families will be looking forward to their annual motoring holiday where they tour the continent and see many of the sites that Europe has to offer. However the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has warned drivers to fully prepare for the trip to avoid paying expensive repair bills and avoid dealing with a family full of irate family members after the resulting, vehicle breakdown. IAM chief executive Simon Best said “A breakdown is inconvenient at the best of times, but to have that occur while on holiday is even more upsetting. Even with comprehensive travel insurance, there will be huge disruption to your holiday if you have a breakdown-and factoring in the extra expense of getting your car or bike towed back to the UK. The survey conducted by IAM showed that the majority of drivers (85% per cent) do travel with adequate insurance and also regularly check the condition of their vehicle, but also admit to being unsure of the motoring regulations on foreign roads. If you’re planning a driving holiday, it is better to be safe than sorry. Get your vehicle serviced.
Lunacy Hits the Streets
Has the excitement of the Commonwealth Games made you yearning for something a bit crazy? Have you gone a bit overboard with the sun and the drink? It is the latest phase of carriageway reconstruction that is taking place along the A727 from Clarkston Toll to the South Lanarkshire boundary.
Severn Valley Motorsport is a specialist in tuning GT-R engines so they do have a few tricks up their sleeve when it comes to making the
most out of what they have.
well, you’re right!
How the concept was born came after the speculation of the Juke being tuned with the same engine to produce the Juke-R although they found that the wheel base for the GT-R and Qashqai where only a few millimeters apart. So in an art more graceful than dumping a different body on to a different chassis, the Qashqai R was born. They weren’t done there though, using their years of know how and big tools they masterfully managed to find 1100bhp from the now 4.1 litre engine.
This car can go from 0-62mph in just
When the behemoth under the hood you would imagine this would be fast,
2.7secs, 0-124mph in just 7.5 and keeps on going way past 200mph and all this in what is essentially a family car. Now if you still want one then the lovely people at Severn Valley Motorsport will happily build one for you but because you are mad they will only tell you on application. By

Eurojag reports phenomenal growth in demand for its Jaguar car parts
Bizarre reason given for stopping on motorways The Highways Agency has released a list of odd reasons motorists have given when stopping illegally on the motorway.
One driver abandoned his car after the word fire appeared on his dashboard display. Fearing his car was set to burst into flames the driver stopped abruptly, failing to realise it was referring to Adele song ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ which was playing on his radio at the time. Other examples included people stopping to take pictures, renewing their insurance and even picking flowers. Traffic officers found two cars on the hard shoulder with the owners negotiating the sale of one of their cars.
A UK company specialising in the supply of new and used Jaguar car parts has just reported an astonishing growth in demand for its genuine Jaguar components in the first half of 2014. The Darlington-based company, Eurojag, believes this unexpected increase may be due not only to more and more drivers choosing to drive a Jaguar car but also that a shortage of some components is forcing Eurojag’s competitors to seek parts from them! As everyone knows, Jaguar is a worldwide prestigious brand that has been around for more than 90 years. Indeed, the very name Jaguar conjures up images of performance, beauty, luxury and style. And its future looks as exciting as its past and present, with their latest range of concept cars that will incorporate extraordinary design thinking and superb technological advances. As if that wasn’t enough, in a nod to the 1960s, Jaguar is even building six brand new ‘Lightweight’ E-types in aluminium. But why the increase in demand for Eurojag’s Jaguar parts right now? Eurojag is convinced there are two reasons. The first is to do with the economy. As the UK and other countries across the globe begin their long climb out of a deep and worldwide recession, increasing numbers of car enthusiasts are discovering they now have sufficient funds to invest in a Jaguar car.
And, despite what the advertising companies love to tell you, a Jaguar car is just that: a car. And cars have components that can and do wear out. Hence more Jaguars on the road means more Jaguar components that need replacing sooner or later. The second reason behind the increase in demand for Eurojag’s services is to do with the way the company does its business. By focusing entirely on Jaguar cars to dismantle, Eurojag has built up an expertise and knowledge of Jaguar cars that it believes is secondto-none. And the company doesn’t believe in sitting back on its laurels either: it is constantly on the look out for used Jaguar models from 1995 onwards to dismantle for components that it can supply to the UK and worldwide. Consequently it has a volume of stock that is now sufficient to help out other Jaguar parts suppliers as well as its own customers. Eurojag believes that some of its competitors may have missed a trick by failing to invest in the purchase of more Jaguar cars to dismantle for parts as the UK grows out of recession. Convinced that it can meet customer demand, Eurojag proudly announces on its website at www.eurojag.com/ that it is THE Number One new and used Jaguar parts specialist. With its mission dedicated to get Jaguar cars up and running again with genuine top quality parts as soon as possible, regardless of location, Eurojag looks set to benefit hugely from this remarkable growth in Jaguar cars on the road.
The act of stopping on the hard shoulder when there is no emergency is illegal, yet the agency said that
between July and September of last year there was a total of 2,062 occurrences. It is also illegal to drive on roads where there is a red X sign displayed over the lane. Highways enforcement
Agency national coordinator, Jamie
Hassall said: “Every day, millions of people use our motorways. Most of them use the hard shoulder correctly and don’t ignore red Xs, but we are appealing to the few who put themselves, other road users and those working on motorways at risk.” By

2014 sees growth in car production.
The first six months of 2014 seen growth of of more than three percent due to the production of new models.
Manufacturers have produced more than 790,000 cars so far in 2014, a rise of 3.5% from the same period last year. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said the rise was primarily due to a 16.5% increase in production for the domestic market. Production for export also rose by 0.5%.
This trend is expected to continue with new models of cars being cited as the main factor for this upturn in production. New models released in the last twelve months include Honda’s estate Civic Tourer and Nissan’s SUV Qashqai. Chief executive of SMMT, Mike Hawes said: “With several manufacturers having started assembly of new models this year and billions of pounds of investment still to reach fruition, this is an exciting time for the UK automotive sector.” Hawes has warned that it is not all positive as there are still issues to address within the British automotive production industry. “With this growth comes a need to bolster the domestic supply chain and address major skills shortages; both of which the UK industry is committed to addressing.” By

Glasgow Warriors announce fifth new signing in summer bonanza
SPORT Glasgow sporting events boost construction to the tune of £769 million
Glasgow Warriors have signed South African prop Rossouw de Klerk from Super 15 side the Cheetahs, subject to a visa and medical.
The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Scotstoun and will join up with Gregor Townsend’s squad for pre-season training at the end of the month. The 6ft 1in tight-head began his senior career in Pretoria, making his debut for the Blue Bulls in 2009. He went on to make 41 appearances for the club, 14 of which were in Super Rugby. In 2013 de Klerk joined the Cheetahs and has made 14 appearances in the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup and has played seven times in Super Rugby this season. De Klerk becomes Glasgow’s third prop to join the club this summer and fifth signing ahead of the 2014/15 season, following the arrivals of Alex Allan, Euan Murray, James Downey and Murray McConnell. Rossouw de Klerk said: “I’m delighted to have signed for the Warriors and I’m looking forward to playing in the GUINNESS PRO12 and European Rugby Champions Cup
next season. “It’s always been an ambition of mine to play for a European club and I’m looking forward to going over to Scotland later this month and meeting my new team-mates in Glasgow. “I’m expecting tough competition to get into the team but that is a great challenge and something which really motivates me. “Glasgow have made excellent progress over the last couple of seasons and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.” Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “To get a tighthead of Rossouw’s quality into the club
is fantastic and he’ll add depth and competition to our front-row. “Playing in that position you know you’re going to play a lot of rugby throughout the season and Rossouw already has a lot of experience for a 24-year-old. “He has come through Super Rugby with the Cheetahs and prior to that the Blue Bulls and those two teams are renowned for their scrummaging. “Rossouw is also very good in the loose and a strong tackler and has already played more than 20 games in Super Rugby. “It’s great news that he’s joining us and we look forward to welcoming him to the club later this month.”
Figures released today reveal that more than £769 million has been invested in construction contracts to get Glasgow in shape for this year’s summer of sport, with more projects still in the pipeline. New data from construction intelligence specialists, Barbour ABI, reveals that more than £769 million worth of construction contracts have been completed to upgrade the city’s sports facilities, with nearly half of this accounted for by the 35-hectare Athletes’ Village valued at £300 million. A combined £217 million has also been spent on the Emirates Arena (incorporating the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome) and purpose-built SSE Hydro national arena at Pacific Quay. The data also shows that £120 million was used to regenerate existing sports facilities in Glasgow and further afield, such as a £30 million refurbishment of the Grade A Listed Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and an extension to the
National Swimming Centre at Tollcross Leisure Centre worth £15 million. Looking ahead, more than £50 million of post-summer regeneration work is already in the pipeline – a huge boost to construction contractors north of the border. Michael Dall, lead economist at Barbour ABI, commented: “There is no underestimating how much work is required to get a city ready for a global sporting event, so it’s not surprising to see the huge sums of money being spent on construction contracts in and around Glasgow, both new build and regeneration, over the past year. “With the Scottish economy now growing past its pre-recession levels, and our latest Economic & Construction Market Review showing that the country dominated medical and health, industrial and education construction contracts in the UK last month, the future is certainly looking bright for contractors over the coming months.”

AGAINST ALL ODDS As the football season doesn’t start for a few weeks, why not get your bets on early to make the most of the value prices. Take the winner of the top 4 leagues in Europe, Italy, France, Germany, Spain – We have Juventus, PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to get attractive odds of 4/1 . All have made some great acquisitions, and should take their respective leagues. Saturday the 2nd of August we have the 32Red Cup, there are 133 confirmations for the £100,000 prize fund up for grabs. Lightly raced Discussiontofollow is my selection for the 6f race. Since joining Mike Murphy’s yard last year has been improving, winning 4 of his 6 starts. Although carrying a 6lb penalty for a short head victory at Ascot on July the 12th, but I think he will be too strong and the 14/1 available is tremendous value!
Tigers
Friday 1st of August sees the Betfred Mile take place. William Haggas’s ride, Homage, is my pick for the race. After an eye-catching race taking a mile handicap at Windsor on June 29th. Currently trading at 12/1 is too good to miss, especially with the ¼ the odds available for a place.
Together
Again
In a season that started so promisingly before injury and adverse weather interruptions, Glasgow Tigers fans are very much looking forward to winding back the clock on how it all began this Sunday.
With the club delighted to welcome back teenage French ace Dimitri Berge to the side, Tigers will once again have their full compliment of contracted riders to take to track against Berwick Bandits in Premier League action. Berge, making his debut season in British speedway, had been a revelation for the Scottish side in the early weeks of this season before
Before those two races, on the 26th of July we have the Longines International stakes, and as a long term follower of Gabriels Lad, I can’t part company with him now. An excellent sprinter, who has been in terrific form, from a yard with a great recent track record. Saddled by George Baker and at odds of 14/1, I will be having a few of the Queens sterling (or Scottish Currency, Ginger Bottles) on that – again, ¼ the odds are available for a place. By

being injured in a high-speed track crash at Ashfield against Peterborough back on 27th April. The accident resulted in 18 year old Berge being taken to hospital when he stayed for several weeks, suffering some internal injury, before being allowed to return home to France to complete his recuperation.
his Glasgow team mates, line-up to face a powerful Bandits team who are currently riding high in the Premier League. The visitors have claimed several away wins to their name already this season, and will target Glasgow as another winnable meeting.
In the meantime Tigers have, as the speedway rule book allows, covered for Berge’s absence through guest rider bookings. However with different riders sharing that role, Tigers fans have been ultra keen to see their new crowd favourite Berge return to the fold.
Tigers, buoyed by being back at full strength for the first time in 3 months, will have something to say about that prospect, and will be all out to register a home win and claim the league points to accompany it.
His long-awaited track return comes this Sunday afternoon as he, and
Racing commences at 3pm. For all the latest news on Glasgow Tigers, visit www.glasgowtigers.co.uk

Ex Queens Park star Robertson set for Premiership switch
Hull City continued to test United’s resolve with an improved bid for Andy Robertson. The English Premier League side thought their offer of £2 million, plus add ons would be enough to secure their target. The youngster has quickly established himself as one of the best young defenders in Scotland, having made the move to Dundee United from Queen’s Park just last summer. He was voted PFA young player of the year after
his performances last season. This has attracted strong interest from down south with West Ham, amongst other teams, ready to pounce if Hull don’t pursue their interest beyond this bid. United are in no hurry to sell having already lost Ryan Gauld to Sporting Lisbon for £3 million, they will continue to hold out until they receive what they consider the correct price for the Scotland Capped left back. thoughts turn to medals
Daniel Purvis
The home team was roared into Celtic Park by a vociferous home support, but with the pageantry of the opening ceremony over and done with the real work begins to ensure the Games are considered a success for Scottish athletes. With an ambitious target of beating their record medal haul of 33, set at the Edinburgh games in 1986,
Hannah Miley
the team will be looking to build momentum by getting in amongst the medals early and often. With a huge team and unprecedented funding, Team Scotland have the talent and the backing to challenge in a number of events. Swimming will be one of Scotland’s strongest events at the games, with two of their most well known athletes in Michael Jamieson and Hannah
Michael Jamieson
Miley expecting to claim medals in the pool. Jamieson is looking to add to his Olympic silver and is the favourite for the 200 metre breaststoke. Miley will be looking to defend her 2010 Games title in the 400 metre medley, but will feel she has a real chance in the 200 metre also. Away from the pool, Scotland will be looking at 23 year old Dan Purvis as their best hope in gymnastics.
Liverpool-born Purvis will compete in the team and individual events in his first Commonwealth Games. Scotland won 10 judo medals twelve years ago in Manchester, the last time the discipline was included in the Games, and will be hoping for a similar result at the judo arena in the SECC precinct. Sisters Kimberly and Louise Renicks will compete in the 48kg and 52kg events respectively.
There are plenty more members of Team Scotland with their eyes on medals and many have realistic chances of finding themselves on the podium. The team will be hoping that when the medals are tallied at the end of the eleven days, Scotland will find itself near the top so that the Games can be deemed a complete success. By
