Hello, I am Betty Holden Stike Congratulations on being published in Author Showcase! I was born in Brunswick County, North Carolina and lived in Bolivia and on Holden Beach with my family. My father was a farmer and owned property, and my mother a homemaker. I had five brothers and one sister! I grew up loving my family, loving to read, and loving school. I had my own library at home and our family always read together. I graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1936 and received my teaching certificate. After that, I taught elementary school back home in Brunswick County. I married Mr. Ray L. Stike, and we had one son. We named him John, and he became a dentist in Wilmington. He was a joy to me all my life. After teaching elementary school for a while, I started working at Wilmington College. There, I showed future teachers how to teach reading, language arts, social studies and math. Wilmington College became the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and I served on the faculty there until I retired in 1984. In 1985, the Ed Lab was created so future teachers could learn to teach reading under the guidance of the literacy faculty. That first year, the Ed Lab had less than forty students! When the Ed Lab moved into the new Education Building in 2005, a brand new space with books, learning games and plenty of room to learn was named in my honor. The Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory. I was so proud! Now, the Ed Lab has more than two hundred fifty students each year, all learning reading, writing, math, science, social studies and so many other things! I particularly love the Authors Showcase because you let us know that you and your family value reading and learning and supporting each other.

And Now.... On with the Show!!

The Adventures of Dylan and Bo By Dylan Boswell Tutor Elizabeth Allen

I see trees, grass and sunshine. I don’t see zombies, and that’s a good thing because I don’t have to fight yet. My name is Dylan and this is my Minecraft world. I am in survival mode that means that I must survive in this world by getting food and shelter, and fighting zombies and other stuff that might come after me. It’s just me, and sometimes that’s lonely. I start by going to get wood to make a house. The house will protect me from zombies and creepers. My house is finished, but it’s a little lonely.

Food is much more important now than it used to be. Minecraft had an update and now when I run, I need lots of food to keep my health up. To get food I need to find some animals and grow some wheat. Finding animals is easier and faster than growing wheat, so I am going to find some cows. Cows are easy to find. They moo and sometimes they are fast, but they are easy to catch.

I listen carefully and I can hear some mooing. This would be easier if I had some help. It sounds like the mooing is coming from behind the trees. The trees look small, so I walk through. On the other side of the trees I see only one cow and a person. He is about the same size as me but he’s wearing a helmet with big horns! “Hi,” I said. He must have heard me coming because he doesn’t seem surprised. He answers, “Hi.” “Do you want to be my friend?” I ask the stranger. “Yes,” he says. “My name is Bo, what’s your name?” “My name is Dylan. I’m trying to catch a cow, will you help me?” “Yes!” We catch the cow and I invite Bo back to my house. At home we realize we need a furnace to cook. A furnace needs 8 pieces of stone which we need to find. We get stone by mining down. While we are mining, we find a cave. It is a small dark cave. Even though it is dark, I’m not scared. We look around. We find stone first and then“I found iron!” I say. “I found coal!” Bo says. “We can make a furnace!” I say. “Then we won’t be in the dark.” Now we can make axes and swords and stone pickaxes, and a furnace. We go up out of the cave. It’s night and zombies are coming. They make a horrible screeching sound. We kill the zombies with our swords. We run back to the house, but there are more zombies outside. We get safely inside and look around, but all we have is a crafting table.

“Hush zombies, I’m trying to think!” Bo says. He must think more than I do. “We need to make some beds,” I say. “Beds need 3 pieces of wood and 3 pieces of wool, so we need 6 pieces of each.” But, we haven’t collected any wool yet. We will have to leave the safety of our house to find wool. We have to find sheep for wool and food. We can’t wait for the zombies to leave so we kill them and search for sheep. We wander through the plains to find 4 sheep. We take all 4 for food and wool. We make it back to the house and craft two beds. “I’m tired. Let’s go to bed.” I say to Bo. After a good night of sleep we wake up to strange noises. There is hissing and rattling outside the door. “What’s that sound?” I whisper. “I don’t know, let’s check,” Bo answer and he opens the door. Outside the door there are zombies and skeletons! Killing zombies is easy work but it makes us tired. Getting rid of skeletons takes more work because they shoot arrows when someone gets close. I’m glad I don’t have to do this on my own. Now we need more food. Pork chops sound good. We are on the hunt for some pigs. We search and search the plains. We find 3 pigs and kill them and bring them home. Food cooks faster in Minecraft than in real life, so in just a few seconds we have a hot dinner! “Thanks for being a friend,” Bo says. “Food sure does taste better when you eat with a friend,” I answer.

The Barrel Race By Beth McZilkey Tutor: Kristy Batchelor

There once were two show horses named Spicy and Spaghetti. They were both at a barrel racing competition in the forest. Their friend, Ms. Piggy, had picked them to be the horses she used for the show. The competition had three rounds. Ms. Piggy and the horses won the first two rounds, but the third round was tough! Three minutes in the final round, everyone heard a loud “BOOM” that came from a distance in front of them. It was Spicy and Spaghetti’s father, King Noodles! He fiercely ran over to them and began yelling at Ms. Piggy to get off the horses. This scared Ms. Piggy! She was distracted and didn’t see the big rock a few feet ahead of the horses. She lost her balance and fell off the horses, hitting the ground.

The two birdie nurses, who were buff and strong, took her to the hospital in the trees. She had to get stitches and a neck brace. She stayed at the hospital for two weeks until she was allowed to go home. Ms. Piggy was so upset. While she was at the hospital, Spicy and Spaghetti came to visit her. They were asking her questions about how she was feeling. They even brought her some spaghetti to eat with big meatballs made of fruit. This was Ms. Piggy’s favorite! Right after they visited, King Noodles came in to see her. He wanted to explain why Spicy and Spaghetti couldn’t barrel race. Spicy had surgery on his knees and he wasn’t supposed to be racing for a while. Spaghetti had some problems going on and Mr. Noodles was worried he would be distracted and get hurt. Mr. Noodles realized that even though he was trying to look out for his boys, he caused Ms. Piggy to get hurt instead. Ms. Piggy accepted his apology and she apologized for not asking Mr. Noodles if Spicy and Spaghetti could race. When Ms. Piggy was all healed up, she was ready to race again. Mr. Noodles suggested two horses he knew that loved to barrel race. She went to a competition with the horses Mr. Noodles suggested. She was kind of sad she didn’t have Spicy and Spaghetti with her, but she was trying to be happy anyway. Suddenly, she heard someone yell her name. She turned around to see Spicy and Spaghetti standing there smiling and waving at her. A few moments later, Mr. Noodles walked up behind them and smiled too. She was so surprised! She had her favorite horses there to support her, even if she couldn’t race with them! Ms. Piggy decided that having her friends by her side was more important than anything else!

The Pigeon and the Duck Had a Hot Dog By Hafza Camara Tutor: Camille Bayer

This is about a pigeon with a hot dog. The pigeon was eating the hot dog and then the duck wanted a hot dog. Then, the duck said, “I want a hot dog. Will you share a piece?” The pigeon said, “No! It’s my hot dog! I would never share this hot dog. I got it from the hot dog store.” The duck said, “Okay, I’m going to get one and I’m not going to share it with you because you already have a hot dog!” The duck took his hot dog and ate it at home. But, when he got home, he already had hot dogs there! The duck ate all his hot dogs! Then he said, “I don’t feel so well.” The ambulance came to get him and took him to the doctor. The pigeon said, “Hey! Where are you going? Can I come?” The ambulance people said, “No, this is for sick people.” The doctor told them that the duck had to stay there for an hour! The duck did not want to. All he wanted was a hot dog because the pigeon had gotten a hot dog.

Anthonee, the T-rex By Danny Frazilus Tutor: Carleigh Causey My T-rex's name is Anthonee. A long time ago he was a little dinosaur. When he grew up he was tall. He has short arms. He has sharp teeth. He has long legs. He only eats meat nothing else. Today Anthonee was hunting in the forest to find other dinosaurs to attack. He saw a Velociraptor to eat but it was too fast so he gave up. Then he spotted a Stegosaurus. They are slow so it was easy to catch. He ate the Stegosaurus but he was still hungry. Anthonee sees another T-rex. He fights with the other T-rex and wins. Then Anthonee ate that T-rex. Then later he's still hungry. He saw a Pterodactyl and the Pterodactyl saw him. But it was foggy and also the Pterodactyl realized that it was too foggy so it didn't go in the air and it went down. That made it easier for Anthonee to get it. Anthonee was not hungry anymore so he saw a Spinosaurus and Anthonee was okay. But the Spinosaurus was fighting Anthonee. A Velociraptor kills the Spinosaurus. Then there was an Allosaurus. Then Anthonee knocked the Allosaurus out. The Velociraptor ran away when it saw the big fight. The Velociraptor gets lost in the forest. Then it was hungry. It saw a bunch of herbivores and one carnivore and that was Anthonee. Anthonee ran into the forest and he saw the Spinosaurus and he wasn't really dead. The Spinosaurus comes out of the forest and fights the Velociraptor for revenge. Anthonee came and fought the Spinosaurus. Another T-rex comes and hypnotizes the Velociraptor to fight Anthonee. The Spinosaurus comes back and defeats the Velociraptor. Then Anthonee defeated the Spinosaurus and then all Anthonee’s enemies were GONE! The end.

My Birthday By Sofia Martinez-Tellez Tutor: Hannah Dalton On my birthday I went to school. It was a Wednesday, I was happy. I said nothing to my classmates and teacher about my birthday. I did my work and read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I went to lunch and had pizza. Then I had specials. After all of that I got dismissed to go to tutoring. Ms. Hannah and I had fun doing math and reading. When my dad picked me up from tutoring, I went to the car and my dad told me to grab a bag. I grabbed the bag and inside was my birthday present. A brand-new pair of boots! I went home and got dressed up so I could show off my new boots when my family came over. My sister brought cupcakes and hid my present. I ate my favorite soup with tortilla chips and watched a movie! Of course, we had cupcakes and even stayed up really late. I opened my presents; I got a lot of stuff. I fell asleep with my favorite stuffed animal. My birthday was a good day.

All About Basketball By Joel Agustin Tutor: Ava Dearing Basketball is a very fun, entertaining, and popular game. It is a good sport to play. When playing basketball, it is more fun to be on a team with other people. You can be a kid or an adult, and still learn how to play. You can participate in tournaments and even win trophies. Sometimes when I play basketball, I feel nervous because when I get the ball, I must shoot a basket or throw it to someone else. In this type of game, you must go pretty fast. It can be hard to play when you have to run around the court and try to pass it to other people. If you miss a shot, sometimes teammates will get angry, or even yell. You should not rage if you lose the game because you can break something or hurt someone else’s feelings. Even if you win, you should not make fun of the other people who lost. Good sportsmanship is an important part of playing a sport and being on a team. Basketball can sometimes become a dangerous game, and players may get hurt. When running fast, players might fall. Someone I know at school shot the ball and tried to steal from another player. They ended up falling and the ball hit them in the face. It seemed like it hurt. Basketball is a healthy activity because you get to run and exercise. Some of the most exciting parts of a basketball game are shooting hoops and running to other people and parts of the court. Basketball games are also found in many movies and books. This is great because it can spread the word about the sport and inspire people to play it. There are many famous basketball players who have practiced the one same sport to get better.

The Mouse with No Name By Mason Jelinski Tutor: Katy Doheny The Mouse who doesn’t have a name is really chubby. He’s so chubby that he can barely walk. He tries to go on the treadmill, but he can’t walk to it. His little mice friends laugh at him, but they help him to the treadmill. They we’re just kidding. After they help him get on the treadmill, they catch the mouse who doesn’t have a name eating brownies behind the treadmill. The brownie was filled with colorful M&M’s in it. That night, the group of mice snuck into the house down the street to steal some food. The mouse who doesn’t have a name couldn’t fit into the door of the house because of how chubby he is. At last they finally get him into the house. The mouse who doesn’t have a name is really happy because he can get a lot of food. His mice friends tell him that the only way he can get more food is if he walks on the treadmill more. All the mice climb into the air vents to sneak into the kitchen. However, one of the mice name Window PS4 farts so bad that they really have to hurry up. Then the people in the house turn on the air conditioning and smell something so bad that they have to leave the house. Now the mouse who doesn’t have a name holds down a rope so Window PS4 can slide down with all the other mice. They get all the food and then the mice catch the mouse who doesn’t have a name because he can’t slide down the rope. Now they sneak out the whole but the mouse who doesn’t have a name is stuck! They push and push and push him out. At last he finally is out with all the other mice. They go back but the house owners see the mice. One of the house owners chases them with a fly swatter, but they make it back to their home. They sit around the campfire and enjoy the cheese. The mouse who doesn’t have a name is really sad because he can’t have any cheese. But the mice say it’s ok to be chubby, you can still eat cheese. It was a good night for all the mice, they were very happy. When they wake up, they all are very chubby because they ate too much cheese. THE END.

The Friends Escape By Kylee Lastner Tutor: Aly Fullmer There I was panting, guns firing all around me. Someone familiar catches my eye, even in all this war on the battlefield. Then I’m positive it is him and he is in red coat. I make my way through the battlefield carefully and then I realize I’m being chased by him. I run to the woods that is a few feet ahead. I stopped at a tree with cover so I’m not seen. Then he stops and he pulls his sword from his scabbard. He moves closer and he is about to strike, the strike that is supposed to end my life. The sword is three feet from my skin and I yell “stop! “. He drops his sword making a loud thud. “Matao don’t you remember me?” inquired Link. “How do you know my name? Are you a spy?” questioned Matao. “I’m Link don’t you remember me? We were friends in Britain,” asked Link. “Your dad owned a bakery in Britain. We met when I came in to get bread for my family dinner.” Then Matao said “I don’t remember that.” “Matao, I would come in every day to see if you were done with your chores so you could play,” said Link. “Come to think of it, I do remember playing with a kid that looked like you except he was younger and a lot less banged up. The kid I remember did not have as much dirt on him,” Matao said sarcastically. “I remember a kid who was not out to get me” said Link with a laugh as they started walking through the woods together leaving the war behind them. Just then a voice yells “holt”! They turn around to see a British solder standing there. He comes forward and grabs my hand and Matao's and we start walking to the British camp.

Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

Watson College of Education UNC Wilmington

The British soldiers were questioning Matao and me as we were sitting around a table. Then the curtains open and light floods into the room as the general walks in. His name is General Cornwallis. He sits at the table in front of us and immediately starts yelling at Matao and accuses him of spilling all the British secrets to the enemy. I sit there quietly questioning if I am in as much trouble as Matao. I look over at Matao and he looks horrified. Then the General begins to inform Matao how much trouble he is in for communicating with the enemy. “Matao your punishment is death!” General Cornwallis demands. I looked over to Matao and he was so shocked that he could barely breathe. I froze in fear, that my punishment would be the same. I am relieved to hear that my punishment is only to work for the British army. The soldiers marched Matao and I down a dirt path to a wooden cell where we will wait until our punishments unfold. They throw us in the empty cell, and I land on something hard. I am horrified thinking about what it could be, but I look down and thankfully it is just a rock. The soldiers immediately slam the door and lock it shut so we cannot get out. The soldiers linger outside the door to make sure we aren’t thinking of ways to escape. After a couple of minutes, we hear their footsteps leaving the doorway. “Matao the soldiers are gone. I have a plan for us to escape,” whispers Link. Then the plan was formed. “We will escape through the window tonight at midnight” says link. They will begin their work as soon as the sun goes down. As soon as the sun goes down, everybody returns to their tents for the night. We begin to take the window off to put our plan into motion. I quietly pull the window open, so we can escape. Then I peek my head out to see if the coast is clear. I look around and no soldiers are in sight. I turn around and give a thumbs up to Matao and we sneak off into the night. We walked through the woods till the sun rose above the horizon. After a couple of minutes we noticed the sun started to shine on everything in the woods. At that moment we spotted a cave. It seemed like a safe place to take shelter so we settled there. Matao and I decided to stay in the woods because it was too dangerous to go home during the war. We came to an agreement that this was going to be our new home for a while so we started to look for wood to build a log cabin for us to live in. After a few weeks had passed we became more comfortable with our new life in the woods. This place was not perfect but it was safe and we had each other, so that was all we could ask for.

Bright Fields By McKeithan Cross Tutor: Taylor Getchell Hi, my name is McKeithan and this is the story of how I saved my horse camp….one day me and my friends Miranda and Emma were riding our horses in one of our favorite trails, Spirit Trail. Spirit trail is our favorite because there are roses, sunflowers, and tulips all over. It also has apple trees with delicious red apples. We were half way through the trail when we saw a mysterious red sign on the fence of our horse camp, Bright Fields. "What is that?" said Emma. "I don't know, let's go look" replied Miranda. We all rode our horses closer to the red sign and saw the words, "LAND FOR SALE." I felt my heart drop, "Wait? What?" I said a shocked voice. Bright Fields has been a horse camp for 15 years and I can't imagine life without it. We all head back to our stables and when we got home I told my parents what we saw. My mom had a guilty look on her face and said, "I know Bright Fields is being sold." Then my dad said, "We were just looking for the right time to tell you." I ran up to my bedroom and slammed my door. I sit on my bed and look around my room, until I see a poster on my wall of the rodeo I went to last year with Miranda and Emma. It was the most fun I have ever had and I want to go to another one so bad. Suddenly I got an amazing Idea! What if we host a rodeo and donate the money we make to save Bright Fields. The next day at school I told Miranda and Emma about my idea and Kage a mean boy said, "Please. Like you could pull that off" and rolls his eyes.

Miranda responds quickly, "Be quiet Kage, no one was talking to you" "Then why are you standing so close?" I decide to respond this time, "Because we were here first." At lunch we start to plan the rodeo. Miranda has an idea for bobbing for apples. Emma wants to have a jumping contest and I want a barrel racing contest. "Of course we will have horse rides" We all said at the same time!

After lunch our teacher announces that we have to do a project. Miranda, and Emma, and I all get to be together, but Kage also got assigned to be in our group. I try to hide my annoyance and continue planning for the rodeo! I smile to my friends "The rodeo will be perfect for our project!" After school we plan to all go to Emma's house and make a list of everything we will need to buy and plan for the rodeo. All four of us go to Emma's house and make a list of everything we will need for the rodeo. 1. Apples 2. Barrels 3. Jumping Fences We gather all of the supplies before Kage says, "Where are we going to host it?" "Well we were thinking that we should host it at our horse camp Bright Fields since we are raising money for them I think they will let us!" The day of the Rodeo all 4 of us get to Bright Fields at 8:00 am. We are all still so tired, but we have so much to do. Emma says, "Let’s get to work" I reply, "I will set us the barrel racing" Miranda offers next, "I will set up the bobbing for apples" Kage says, "Me and Emma will set up the jumps" By 11:00 am there is a line of people and horses waiting to get into the rodeo. Emma starts letting people in by selling tickets. I am in charge of the Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

barrel races. Miranda is in charge of the apple bobbing. Kage is running the jumping competition. A few hours into the rodeo I suggest we switch jobs over the walkie talkies. Miranda goes to selling tickets. I go to bobbing for apples. Kage goes to barrel racing. Emma goes to the jumps. By the end of the day all of our feet hurt from working all day, but we raised enough money to save Bright Fields! "I can't believe we did it!" I tell my friends excitedly. The next day we told the class about our project. Our teacher was so impressed. She gave us an A+. Our teacher told us that the school needed some money and would love if we did a fundraiser. All four of us look at each other, smile, and say, "OF COURSE!"….and that is the story of how me and my friends saved my horse camp!

But these particular aliens do not have pizza on their planet because they can’t grow tomatoes for the sauce! This is how the story of aliens and pizza goes. One day, the people on Earth got a team of astronauts together to bring some tomato sauce to the aliens because they felt bad that the aliens could not enjoy pizza. The aliens were SO HAPPY and they used all of the sauce in one day. The humans began to make extra sauce for the aliens but told the aliens to slow down. The aliens grew more and more impatient with the humans. They did not want to slow down. The aliens decided to take action against the humans, so they got on their spaceship and came to Earth. The aliens slowly started to take over tomato farms across the United States. The United States of America found out about what the aliens were doing and knew they had to put an end to it! They rounded up all the aliens, put them in a spaceship, and flew them out of Earth! The United States told the aliens that if they ever came back to Earth again, they wouldn’t get any tomato sauce for the rest of their lives. The Pokémon Soccer Game By: Nathan Lim Tutor: Emory Hansley

Once upon a time, there were six friends named Bellossom, Poochyena, Pikachu, Torchic, Pichu, and Exeggutor. They were best, best friends and were together all of the time. One day, they played soccer. They decided they wanted to play in teams, so there were two teams of three players. Pikachu’s team had Torchic and Pichu. Poocheyna’s team had Bellossom and Exeggutor. They decided that whoever got 10 points won the game and a trophy. During the game, both teams did their best to get the trophy. On Pikachu's team, Pichu was the goalie. Pikachu and Torchic were the forward players. On Poocheyna’s team, Exeggutor was the goalie, and Poochyena and Bellossom were the forward players. The ball started in the middle of the field, and Pikachu’s team got the ball. Pikachu passed the ball to Torchic. Torchic slide kicked the ball through Exeggutor’s stinky feet and got a goal. Pikachu’s team won the first round. When Exeggutor got the ball, he kicked it so hard that it went over Pichu’s head. Poocheyna’s team scored a goal. Pikachu’s team was sad, but they used their teamwork and never gave up. They kept using all their skills. Exeggutor kicked the ball hard, but Pikachu blocked it with his belly. He passed it to Torchic. Torchic was small, so he was able to go through Poocheyna’s legs and score. At last, Pikachu’s team won the game. Poocheyna’s team was upset, but they were all friends. They all had a party and threw Pikachu’s team in the air. THE END

The All By Razia Simmons Tutor: Meredith Howson

I like Cupcake-Sparkles because she helps me do my homework. I like that my tutor Meredith got her for me. Cupcake-Sparkles always likes to snuggle my bed with her big covers on. She’s just so cute and snuggly, that’s why I like her so much! She gives me hugs and watches TV with me, and she likes when I read stories to her. When I’m not home, I think she eats black and white ice cream. She reads a unicorn book about her unicorn friends. Her momma unicorn is pink and fluffy. She always makes me laugh and she always snuggles with me in the bed. Sometimes when I have to do my homework she eats my homework, but I still love her, sweet Cupcake-Sparkles’ mom.

The Princess and Her Pets By Kendra Hippolyte Tutor: Haley Hiatt

One upon a time, there was a Princess named Kendra who had a pet koala and bunny. One day, the castle door was open, and the bunny and koala ran out of the castle. Princess Kendra was so upset that the King and Queen sent the royal dogs out looking for the bunny and koala. Next, a wizard named Wally comes to the castle. The wizard has come so he can help in the search for the koala and bunny. The Princess believes that if anyone can find her pets, it'll be the wizard. She has never seen a wizard before, but she decides to trust that Wally will find her pets. However, the King and Queen don't want Wally to help. They don't trust the wizard and think he is up to something. Kendra knows the wizard is their best option for finding her precious pets, so she tries to convince the King and Queen to let him help. "Oh, please let Wally help us!! We have to find my bunny and koala!" They pull Kendra aside and the Queen says, "Do you really trust him?" The Princess says, "I'd do anything for my koala and bunny, we MUST let him help!" The King and Queen tell Princess Kendra they will have to think about it. Kendra was frustrated and angry. Later that night, she helps Wally sneak into the castle.

Wally tells her about a potion he has been working on. He says, "This potion I have can give you night vision and help you find your pets." "But I don't like to go out in the dark" says Kendra. The Wizards stops to think and finally says "okay, I have another plan." "I'll call my frog and bird because they can find anything." The frog and bird set out to find the bunny and koala. They wandered around the forest until they came across a big green monster. "Who are you and why are you in my forest?!" says the monster. The frog says "we're looking for the Princess' bunny and koala. Have you seen them?" The monster says "No, but if you complete my challenge, I will help you look." "To complete the challenge, you must hop on each lily pad to get across the river. If you fall in, I won't help at all, but if you make it across, I promise I will find the bunny and koala." The frog and bird look at each other with fear in their eyes. Frog says, "I'll step up to the challenge, this was made for me." Bird flies to the other side and waits anxiously for frog. Frog makes it across the river, but the big green monster disappears. Frog and bird are amazed and don't know what to think! They walk over to where the monster was and, on the ground, there is a map. The frog and the bird look at the map to discover there is a big red “X” on the other side of the forest. Bird tells the frog to hop on her back and they head to the x. The frog and bird arrive at the x and find the koala and bunny sitting by a tree. The bird swoops down and tells the koala and bunny, "we have been looking everywhere for you! You have to come back to the castle with us." All of a sudden, the wizard appears. "You guys should head back to the castle before the princess worries too much." He then snaps his fingers and creates a portal for the animals to travel back to the castle. The animals arrive at the castle and the Princess is so happy to see her pets. The King and Queen are amazed that the wizard was able to find the pets, so they award the Wizard with a big pot of gold. The animals trot into the castle where they live happily ever after with Princess Kendra.

He woke up from a nap and he was late to pick his Pokémon, but some other people had already picked Squirtle, Bulbassaur, and Charmander. So, Ash had to get Pikachu. They walked off into the forest where Ash saw a Gyarados and he threw a pokeball. Ash caught Gyarados, but then Gyarados escaped and tried to get Ash and Pikachu. So, they ran and Pikachu got hurt. Then they went to a lightening center. In the lightning center, Ash goes into a room and he finds a Charmander egg, and then the Pokémon center employee said that he could have the egg. Next, Ash gets Pikachu back from the center, and they all walk to a Pokémon water gym. Ash goes inside the water gym, and he sees the gym leader, and he fights him. Ash wins! Ash leaves the gym and continues walking, and once he walks for a while his Charmander egg hatches. The charmander hugs Ash. They start to walk back home. Baking Brownies By Erik Everhart Tutor: Anne-Graham Hope On a Thursday afternoon, Anne-Graham and Erik decided to make brownies! Erik had his mom and grandma help him bake the brownies. First, they both poured the brownie mix into large bowls. They then added 2 large eggs. The next ingredient to add was 3 tablespoons of water. The last ingredient to add to the mix was 2/3 cups of vegetable oil. Once all of the ingredients were mixed in, they stirred all of the ingredients together to make a smooth, thick, brownie mix. Once the brownie mix was all stirred together, they poured it into a large pan and placed the pan in the oven at 350 degrees for 23 minutes. The Bike By Ian Davis Tutor: Kinne Huxtable The first bike was made in 1817. Here is what a bike looks like:

Handlebars / Grips → ← Seat Frame

→ ← Pedals

Wheels/Spokes → A bike is made of wires. A bike has suspension. The suspension is called a shock. A bike also has grips. Grips are black rubber tubes that go on handlebars to help you hold on. A bike needs wheels and tires to move. A bike's wheels have spokes. A bike has handlebars and a seat. It is made up of a frame. The frame is the body of the bike. The handlebars are held on by the stem. You can use a bike for many different things. You can use a bike on trails, streets, flat ground, and you can go to the skate park with your bike. There are a lot of different types of bikes. There are mountain bikes, road bikes, and BMX bikes. Mountain bikes are different in many unique ways. They are built differently, they look different, and they feel

Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

different. Their tires all look different. They have lots of tread that gives you more grip, so you don't wipe out. BMX bikes are very fun to learn on. You can do so many cool things on them. You can go down hills and go super-fast. You can also go off ramps and grind. Grinding is when you put your front tire on a skinny square and glide across it. Your back tire can also sometimes go onto the square. Once you get the hang of riding a bike, it is easy to do. Most kids have to have training wheels to help them learn to ride a bike but, THIS KID DIDN’T!

How to do a Tail Whip, a very cool biking trick: 1. Get a high bike ramp and an open space. 2. Get onto your bike. 3. Start pedaling quickly to gain momentum as you go up the ramp. 4. While holding onto the handles, remove your feet from the petals and spin the back of the bike around. 5. Catch the bike with your feet on the petals. 6. Make sure to bend your legs and body as you land back on the ramp. 7. Slow to a stop. 8. If there's another ramp do not automatically do another trick to stay safe.

The Super Good and Brave Heroes By Ebun Oyetunji Tutor: Gabe Johnson It was a beautiful day at the Daily Bugle. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. It was the perfect day to go to the pool. Which is exactly what Spider-Man, Super Man, Green Goblin, Thanos, The Foundation, Black Panther, Shanta, DJ Lama, Oran, Raz, The Mandalorian, Lexa, Drift, and Beast Boy decided to do. The group splashed and played for a few hours, having the time of their lives in the water. Everything was perfect until Spider-Man noticed something in the sky. It was a flying spaceship of some sort, but not one he had seen before. It was huge! The size of three hundred lions and was as colorful as a rainbow. The doors of the spaceship opened and out came a girl. “Whoa” The Scientist, D.J. Lama, Thanos, and Venom said. “That is the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen!” The Foundation said, “For some reason I feel drawn to her, like there is something she wants me to do.” The girl began to descend down to Earth and met our heroes. The people who were not charmed by her looks told The Foundation not to fall for her compulsion because it could be a trick. The pretty girl told The Foundation that she needed his help to take over the world, and he listened! The Foundation and the others who fell for the pretty girl’s compulsion followed her back to her spaceship. Spider-Man, Green Goblin, Drift, Beast Boy, Oran, Lexa, and Raven were very confused. “What just happened? Why did all of our friends leave with that girl?” Spider-Man asked. “Something doesn’t feel right.” Before they knew it, the

spaceship was leaving. Knowing that something wasn’t right, the heroes tried to catch the ship before it left. But they were too slow, it got away. Days later Oran and Lexa were doing some recon, trying to figure out where their friends might have gone. Everything was fine until they received a disturbing transmission that appeared to have come from the alien’s ship. The transmission revealed what the aliens were planning to do. Their plan was to invade Earth! Oran and Lexa hastily relayed the message back to the crew. The crew was ready and all packed for the road. It took them about five hours to plan their mission. Before they left, they had noticed some shadowy figures appearing on the ground. They looked up to the sky and saw a few friends. It was Doctor Strange, Gunner, Naruto, and Erica, they were looking to tag along on their mission. They set out to try and intercept the spaceship before the aliens could execute their plan. After eight hours, the crew finally arrived at the ship. They stalked the ship, waiting for the aliens to depart. The hangers of the ship opened and out came a smaller battleship, but the crew noticed something. The foundation was the piolet of the ship! The crew moved in to intercept the ship. They snuck and got at close to the ship as they could and latched on. From here, the crew was able to enter the ship. While on the ship, the crew had to move cautiously to avoid being seen. They went from room to room in search of their missing friends. Then they heard something, a cry for help, it was their friends! They followed the sounds of the cries and found their friends locked in a cage. Then the crew heard a large sound rumbling down the hall of the spaceship. The Foundation was coming! The crew hid in a compartment in the room to avoid being seen. The Foundation entered and

with his booming voice ordered the prisoners to quiet down. After saying this, he left the room and went back to his command post. After the coast was clear, our heroes released their friends from their cages, and they returned to their ship to prepare for their fight against the aliens. After careful planning, it was now time for the battle to commence. The war broke out. Everyone was firing on all cylinders. After the first wave of the attack, the crew and The Foundation came face to face. “Foundation why are you doing this?” said the crew, “I have to” he replied. “But why? We’re your friends, don’t you remember all of the good times we’ve shared back home?” The Foundation stopped and thought for a minute. He began to remember his home, his friends. He asked himself, “Why am I doing this?” And at that moment, he snapped back to reality! “Guys? What happened?” The Foundation said. “You fell under the pretty girl’s spell, but that doesn’t matter, you being back is what’s important.” With The Foundation reuniting with the crew, they combined their powers to destroy the remaining alien fleet and spoil their plan to take over Earth. While they were finishing the last of the fleet, the pretty girl fled in an escape pod. Although she was gone, the crew could not help but wonder if she would be back again. Despite the thought of her returning, they did not let this scare them. The heroes returned to Earth and threw the biggest party the world has ever seen.

How to Break a Geode By Jacob Pierre Tutor: Alaina Jones

First, you need to grab a hammer; it should be 8+ or 12+, and a towel or a washcloth. Then you smash it! Also, watch out for your hands. Move your hammer down, smashing it. Then unwrap the geode. It is nice and cool because you can see what is inside. If you can see that it is smashed, then stop because it is done. That’s how you smash a geode.

The cake even had candles for her to blow out. We did not sing happy birthday to her because she didn’t want us to sing to her. We played on the playground, which was tons of fun. It was a very cold and windy day, but we still had fun. I made lots of new friends. After playing on the playground for a little while my friends and I saw lots of turtles and birds at the park. We even tried to chase the birds, which was kind of funny. Lastly, I got to bring home fun little toys like a kazoo and candy. Overall, I would say it was a pretty good day!

The Turpigmaid By Nay King Tutor: Abby Kleist A long, long time ago, there was an accident in a factory. One day a pig was just wandering around the factory, and a turtle and mermaid slammed into him. Then a big zap and light flash happened, and the pig became a TURPIGMAID!!! What is a turpigmaid, you might ask? Well, a turpigmaid is a mix between a turtle, pig, and mermaid. The turpigmaid can swim, it can hide in its shell, and it can have lots of fun in the mud. But other animals didn’t like him. One day he was walking home, and a Zebra stopped him and said, “Eww! What are you? You look so weird!” the turpigmaid replied, “I’m a Turpigmaid! I’m a mix of animals.” and the Zebra just laughed at him. The rest of the way home the Turpigmaid cried. So he put a big blanket on his head and put on a Halloween mask so that the other animals would think he was a regular pig! And they would want to be his friend. That day when he was walking down the road he saw the Zebra and she said “AHHH! IS THAT A BLANKET MONSTER!?!?” the Turpigmaid cried because he had nothing else to do. So he went to the spirit Halloween store and got a REAL pig costume! The next time he saw the Zebra, She asked him to play. The turpigmaid was very confused because just yesterday the Zebra was very mean. He was happy, but he was also sad because that meant he only liked him for something that he wasn’t. So he took off his disguise and the other animals laughed at him, which made him very sad. He did not understand why the animals liked him when he looked like a pig. He was the same person. So he asked them, “Why not like how I look when you are just being a crook?” It took the other animals a minute and then a squirrel stood up and said, “I’m sorry! We should not have done that. The Zebra followed with an apology. After this, the turpigmaid never had to worry again because they all became good friends. And the turpigmaid was a new generation.

Princess Berkeley and her Best Friend, Echo By Berkeley Black Tutor: Berkley Loeblein

Once upon a time, there was an evil witch in her cottage planning to do something cruel like always. She was planning something big, and her target was Echo. Echo is Princess Berkeley’s horse who lived at the farm near the castle. Berkeley lives in the castle. Berkeley was talking to her parents about sending the evil witch to the mysterious place of doom. On the farm Echo was happy eating hay and relaxing, but all the sudden she heard the farm doors burst open. The evil witch was coming near Echo. She opened her stall door and got her halter on Echo, then she took her to her cottage. Usually, Berkeley comes to give Echo more hay at that time, but when she was done filling the hay net, she found out that Echo was gone! Immediately Berkeley ran as fast as she could to get back to her castle. Then, she went straight to her parents to tell them about Echo. After thinking for a while, the mother thought that the witch might have taken Echo. Back at the witch’s cottage, the witch was tying Echo to the fence. When the witch was done, she started to head back into her cottage to finish her potion. The witch was making a potion to give to Echo, so she could transform herself into a horse, so the king and queen wouldn’t send her to the mysterious place of doom. The king’s men gathered up the horses and the carriage and set off to the witch’s cottage. When they arrived, the king volunteered to go knock on the door, but then Berkeley said “Hey dad! Look, Echo’s right their tide to the fence.” Dad quickly untied Echo’s lead and then put the saddle on Echo Berkeley hopped on Echo and cantered right behind the carriage. The next day the king and queen sent the witch to the mysterious place of doom. The entire kingdom celebrated with a cake, it was a vanilla cake with 2 layers that had chocolate frosting and extra sprinkles. Soccer on Sunday Retelling By Luis Sanchez Tutor: Jacob Lolley Jack and Annie only knew of Pelé when they went to Mexico. Once there they met Benjamin, the embassy guard. After receiving directions from Benjamin and taking off on their way they got lost. Lucky for them, they met a kid named Roberto on the city subway. Roberto was heading to the stadium too as it was Roberto`s birthday and he had gotten one ticket to the game as a present. Once at the stadium they realized that Roberto's seat was way in the sky so, Annie wanted to trade seats with him but so did Jack. So, Jack and Annie made a deal to have Jack sit up there for the 1st half ad Annie would sit up there for the 2nd half. This did not work out as planned because at halftime Jack went to go switch seats but by the time he got near Annie the halftime was over and guards were having fans go back to their seats, so the guard did not let him pass to get to his sister. So, Jack returned to the seat in the sky and kept thinking Annie was looking for him. Pretty soon the game was over, and they were reunited, but Jack was a bit confused as to when he reached Annie and Roberto, Annie did not seem worried at all. After the game fans rushed the field and soon the team got on the bus, and they left for the banquet in the city. So, Jack and Annie followed Roberto to the city. But Roberto stopped by where his friends were playing soccer. There, his friends asked Jack and Annie if they wanted to play, but they only wanted to play if Roberto played. But the friends only wanted Jack and Annie to play as Roberto causes them to lose they used Merlin magic and all of them said they wanted to play like Pelé and they did and they won the soccer game and when they were leaving, kids were chasing after them, but they had to leave as they had to go back. They went to go eat tacos and drink lemonade. Then both of them had to part their separate ways so they said goodbye to each other, and they left. They went into the magic treehouse and spawned on a knight tree, and they met Morgan, Teddy, King Arthur, Merlin, Queen Guinevere, and Kathleen in Camelot. They congratulated them for completing the missions. They ran through the trees back to the treehouse to head home. When they got home, it was if time had stopped during their adventures.

NBA Suggestions to Improve By David Osinuga Tutor: Barry Lu To play the Spin of Wheel game, it will follow the “explain, demonstrate, guide, practice, and reflect” logic. The skills could be developed include but not limit to summarizing, evaluating, comparing, and brain storming. For example, the tutee creates the suggestion "More ads like NFL ads." This idea will lead to more questions like: 1. "What is difference between NFL and NBA ads?" 2. "Why NFL ads are more expensive and interesting?" 3. "How NBA could improve their ratings to attract more sponsors?" 4. "How NBA is using her international influence to improve their ads revenue and presentation?" The items on the wheel will go deeper as the game goes on. It is not just a spin-of-wheel game; indeed, it is a spin-of-thinking game for the tutee and tutor.

My Dream Bunny By Ja’Niya Bullock

Tutor: Chloe McVetta I want a bunny that is white, fluffy, and cute. I would name her Cupcake.

I would take Cupcake on walks at the park, maybe on the beach if it was sunny. When my bunny is good I would give her carrots and celery. Cupcake’s favorite holiday is Christmas because I would give her bunny toys. Her favorite toy would be the hay balls because she likes to play with them. Cupcake would sleep in a cute pink cage in my bedroom.

She will sometimes sleep in my bed. I would be Cupcake’s favorite in my family because I always hang around her and treat her right.

And on the train, I had hot cocoa, chips, gummies, and we could go to the restroom if we needed to. All of us could do stuff on our electronics because the train had a satellite. This train could turn into a Transformer, a high-speed train, or go underwater. The next thing we knew, someone uncoupled the train couplet, and we were in the middle of nowhere. But then, we started to move. Someone was pushing the train really fast and coupled it together again. We finally made it to Disneyland for our field trip!

Surviving the Formidi-Bomb By Brodie Krieger Tutor: Caroline Patterson One day Jack woke up at nine in the morning and ate breakfast. Jack got dressed and ready for the day and then ate his lunch which was hot dogs and cake for dessert. After lunch, he went mining for diamonds, emeralds, and iron which he used to build a new tree house. He got done building at eight o’clock and hurried inside. Suddenly, a creeper came and exploded the house and a piece of iron trapped Jack, holding him down. Luckily, Jack's friend, Miss Caroline, destroyed the iron, freeing him and they went back to her house. Their friend Sophia joined them. The three of them enjoyed dinner and went to bed, tired from the long day. At ten they heard a loud roar, when they looked out the window they saw a wither storm which devoured everything in its path, they grabbed their weapons and scurried out the back door, as they ran they came upon a fortress. They went inside the fortress leaving the storm far behind them. Inside, they saw cobblestone pillars and a platform which Jack jumped onto. Jack fell behind one of the pillars and spotted endermen who were moving pieces of cobblestone. Jack cried for help so Sophia and Miss Caroline went down to help him. Once they helped him up, he thanked them for coming to which they replied "anything for you". Suddenly an endermen approached them and roared so they ran into a river, luckily the endermen did not follow after them. Deeper in the fortress the group found a hidden passageway, Sophia recognized it because only an axolotl can access them. In the passageway she found a chest, when she opened it she saw potions. Miss Caroline recognized something else in the chest, an axolotl potion which when drunk turns you into an axolotl. They drank the potion and continued through the tunnel, it took them almost an hour to get to the end. The potion wore off eventually and they were back to normal. Once they reached the end they found a cave and it looked like nobody lived there, but someone did, his name was Soren and he was the master builder, he had built a bomb that was more powerful than 10 stacks of TNT, although he was not home. Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

Watson College of Education UNC Wilmington

The friends found a ladder and climbed up out of the cave, once they reached the top they saw a tree, Jack went over to the tree and felt it and said “hey wait a minute this is made of wool”, Sophia and Miss Caroline gasped “wool”? Also on the tree were buttons and levers, Jack went to pull one lever but to his surprise there was no hidden passageway, he wondered how there could be no hidden passageways? Sophia exclaimed “it's kind of obvious Jack, Soren is a master builder there's no way he would leave a trace behind,” that's when Jack saw a lever with a label and when he pulled it a door opened. Behind the door was a room where they found blocks which Jack picked up. They also noticed an enderman costume, Sophia noticed that the tall one was missing. Miss Caroline assumed that someone must be wearing the tall enderman costume. Jack put on the small costume and the helmet and said “this thing smells horrible” then he went outside, he met eyes with an enderman who thought it was one of them but short. He saw one of the endermen carrying a block so Jack walked right up to him and in their language he asked to borrow the block. The enderman handed Jack the block and noticed a blueprint, when he picked it up he saw that it was the blueprint of something being built by Soren. He put the blocks in order, the endermen looked right at him as he did this and Jack recognized the helmet, it was Soren right in front of him. Soren asked “why are you here”? Jack replied “I heard you built the bomb and you are the master builder.” Soren responded, “I have a confession to make, I um didn’t build the bomb yet.” Jack pulled him to the side to where no endermen were and said “What the heck man!!??” He went inside the house and told Sophia and Miss Caroline that he had found Soren. Soren took off his endermen costume… then something unexpected happened. The endermen teleported inside the house and Sophia yelled “eyes down everyone”. They walked towards the door but there were more endermen in the main room. Soren told Jack that endermen hate water and if they could destroy the cobblestone, the room will fill up with water and the endermen will go bye. Soren tells Jack “you still have the costume on, if you're lucky you could go towards the fountain and take away two cobblestone blocks.” The rest of the Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

group stayed where they were while Jack walked over to the fountain, but an endermen was in his way, luckily the endermen did not look his way so he continued towards the fountain and snatched the two cobblestone blocks, putting them in his pocket. The room started to fill up with water. The endermen got wet but teleported upstairs to a different level, where they looked down and roared at Miss Caroline, Sophia, Soren, and Jack. The group floated toward the exit but there were endermen in the other room so Soren told Jack to find a lever at the top of the fountain because it would make the room overflow with water and they would be able to swim to safety. Jack went over to the fountain and climbed a ladder to the top, he pulled the lever and the room started filling with water fast. The endermen on the ground roared and teleported up, others disappeared, and some were on the trees. The group found a trap door and swam for it, once they were out they jumped through the portal to the end. There were zombies, skeleton archers there and started shooting at them. Everyone got to the side and Soren told Jack to pull a lever on the wall, when he did Soren said “hold onto your socks.” There were giant stones on the wall and pumpkins came from everywhere and landed on them. They turned into strong stone warriors. They began to attack the skeletons, creepers, and zombies. They did not attack Jack, Miss Caroline, Soren, or Sophia. They walked into the main room, there was a platform and on it were chests. Soren told two stone giants to make a stone warrior ladder. Soren climbed up and searched through the chests while everyone else split up. Jack's chest had gunpowder and weapons inside. Soren found super TNT in his chest. Suddenly, the endermen showed up. Jack found a button, when he pushed it mind carts came out and the gang hopped in, shot across the tracks as the door closed behind them. It was sunset, the monsters were awake but Soren told them “don't worry, they're not itching for a fight, they're running away.” Worried about what they were running away from, they noticed a familiar roar, it was the wither storm. Jack found a crafting table and started crafting the formidi-bomb but he got caught in one of the wither storm’s beams so he threw the formidi bomb and it went straight for its heart, the command block. The gang launched the cable to catch Jack, the formidi-bomb was right on top of the command block. Jack got to the ground and there was a giant KABOOOOOM. The wither storm fell in pieces, Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

there were survivors and it was finished. The wither storm turned into ash. Jack went to anyone that was trapped and helped them. The whole group was finally safe and went back to Miss Caroline's house, they rebuilt, had dinner, and then went to bed. The end.

The NORMAL Camping Trip By Ava Jones Tutor: Destiny Pearce One night, four friends were camping. They were all making jokes about scary legends. As all of them sat around, Theodore had an idea to tell a supposedly “real” scary story. “I bet it’s just another joke Theo, your known for being funny in school anyways.” Jeremy had said smirking, Theo smirked back. “Yeah, yeah whatever, anyways, one day there was a little girl…” “Oh god!” Gabriel sighed. Theodore gave him a look that was so blank it was scary. “Anyways, she was skipping down the trail, her mother told her not to go through the woods, but she didn’t listen. A man had come out asking if she was lost, the little girl said yes, the man told her to follow him because he would help her get back. She agreed, but instead of going left to go home, they went right.” Jeremy, Gabriel, and Michael all leaned forward to listen. “This is real?” Michael asked, usually he was brave, but he looked scared. “I don’t know…” Theo said, “As they went deeper in the woods, a small cabin appeared in the distance. They were now inside the cabin, the lock clicked, “huh?” the girl said turning around. The man shifted into a tall black figure, sharpened long claws and beaming red eyes. A scream echoed, but nobody was able to hear it. The girl had been reported missing. But don’t worry. This story dates back to 1985.” Theo ended his story. “Yeah, we’re still scared” the others said all together. Theo just shrugged. “I’m going to sleep, goodnight!” Theo announced. “Night!” the others replied. “Let’s roast marshmallows” Jeremy said “Yea- “. “Did you hear that?” Gabriel asked. “What?” Michael replied. “Nothing…” Gabriel responded. As they began roasting marshmallows a scream from a girl echoed. They all huddled together, scared. “I

thought that story wasn’t true?” Jeremy said in a shaky voice. “It dates back to ten years ago! That wasn’t too long ago…” Michael said. They’d decided together to wake up Theo. “Why’d you guys wake me up?” Theo questioned. The three others just looked at each other, they pushed Gabriel forward. “Well, uhm… we heard something in the woods. I think there’s somebody in there.”, “Ha Ha, now this is a prank, right?”, “Uhm… no?” Jeremy responded. “Okay well, I’m sure you guys are hearing stuff, just go to bed.” Jeremy crawled in the tent and covered himself with a blanket. “I’m not sleeping.” Michael said to Gabriel. “Nor am I.” Theo and Jeremy were asleep now. Meanwhile, Gabriel and Michael were packing their bags with a med-kit, food, water, glow sticks, and flashlights. “Are we ready?”, “Yeah.” They both clicked their flashlights and started walking into the woods. The leaves crunched beneath their feet. “Did you bring a map?” Michael asked. “Uh, no?” Gabriel responded. “Why did I do this…” Michael mumbled. “Be better than that, unless your scared- “, “I’m not scared. I’m uncertain.” Another crunch of a leaf popped behind them us if there was a third person, they both stopped walking and looked behind them. “What was that?”, “I don’t know?” They both started running back to camp. But something was chasing them. Michael looked behind them, the only way he could see it was the way it moved across the trees in the shadows and its red eyes. They both took a hard turn and went tumbling down a very steep hill. They both lied there tired. Aching in pain with cuts and bruises. “I could’ve had sworn it said camp was this way.”, “I saw it too, but where are we?”, “I don’t know?” They both just decided to lay there and sleep and get help in the morning. Morning came faster than they expected. Theo and Jeremy yawned and stretched as they woke up. “Hey where’s Gabriel and Michael? They aren’t in their tent.” Jeremy looked at Theo. “Wait what?” Theo

ran over to check. Theo pulled out his phone and called Michael, who always seemed to answer no matter what. But this time he didn’t answer. They decided to search for them. Theo grabbed a map and they walked into the woods. They got to the sign and saw it had been switched. “These signs are switched; I know where they are!” Theo said and led Jeremy down the steep hill. When they got to the bottom, they saw Gabriel and Michael asleep. They both picked one up and carried them back up the hill. They put them in their tent and started bandaging their wounds. Nighttime came and nothing weird had happened since. But all four of them weren’t sure they were ready for tonight. “That creature knows we’re here, what do we do?” Gabriel begun to worry. “We’ll be okay.” Theo promised. They were all eating around the campfire then went to bed. It was about 3:47am when Michael woke up, but he wasn’t next to Gabriel. He was gone! Michael listened as he heard something walking around their camp. He was frozen in gear as the cold air from the outside washed into the hot tent. The tent was open, he closed it with no sound. He went back to bed figuring Gabriel was just using the bathroom. Later he was woken up by police sirens. He climbed out of the tent to Theo and Jeremy shocked. Michael took one look at the ground and gasped, there was blood all over. How did he not hear Gabriel scream? He said the holes where Gabriel was dragging his nails across the dirt. Theo and Jeremy hugged Michael while he was in shock. They day had passed; Gabriel still hadn’t returned. They ate hot dogs and sat around the campfire in silence. It wasn’t the same without him. Zombie Invasion of 2014. By Eli King Tutor: Robert Queen 2014 military base the zombies have taken over. More people along with the cure are evacuating in a truck. They stopped at a forest to get water from the stream. Then! 2 zombies attacked them! One of them fought them off then they fled. They make it to a City hoping to find London's Military base. They find a broken-down lab that they can use to find a cure. One soldier named Bucky goes to get supplies and fights any zombie that he sees.

While Bucky is finding supplies he finds a briefcase with a modified Ar-15. He returns back to the base and when he gets there they found out the London Military is under attack as well. The only thing they can do now is to try and get to a colder climate since the zombies cannot survive in the cold. On their way since leaving, they find another town and decide to take everything they can. But while they are there, a man attacks them from behind killing 1 of the soldiers. Bucky shoots him and takes his sword.

They found an airport. They tried to get one of the planes working but they needed more things. As they were leaving to get the parts a massive crowd of about 1,000 to 1,500 zombies were at the door. They did not know what to do. All they had was 1 door between them and the zombies. They decided to spend the night at the airport. In the morning 1 soldier woke up and decided to take out the zombies. He attached grenades to himself and ran out. When they woke up they saw he had blown himself up to take out the zombies. They decided to go quickly Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory

and try not to think about it because they knew more would come. They found a broken-down military base that had all of the supplies they needed but there was a lot of zombies at it. They decided to sneak in and grab the parts. As they were sneaking out a Zombie noticed them, and they had to fight all of them. Everyone was shooting at the zombies and eventually killed them all. They got back to the airport but then they realized they had left the cure back at the city. So they decided to go back to the city. While they were there the streets were crowded with zombies. They were shooting their way through but eventually ran out of ammo. So they went to the broken down lab to get the cure then got in a car and drove back to the airport. When they got there someone had already fixed the plane. But they didn't know where to go. They decided to go to China where they could launch the cure-all around the world.

They arrive in China and get into a car and drive into any zombie that is in their way. They get to a place where they can launch the cure but it is all beaten up and broken. They have to fix it. They look around the entire city and got about half of what they needed. They could try and get to Japan but they need a boat. They go to the docks and try and find a boat but all of them are gone except for 1. They need to fix the boat but do not need that much to fix it. They have the parts but now they only have about 25 percent of what they need.

About a week later they get to Japan. They spend a couple of days looking for the parts for the lab. They go back to the docks to discover the zombies that destroyed their boat. They need to figure out a way to get back.

They go to a destroyed military base and find a jet but only two can go but there are 4 soldiers. Two go and two stay. They go back to China to launch the cure.

When they get back to China they get back to the lab they get ready to launch the cure but it will take 1 hour. Zombies are at the door and are going to break it soon. They have about 30 minutes until the door breaks but that is about half the time it takes to launch the cure. They put what they can find in front of the doors. They try and stop it but that only gives them about 15 more minutes. They do not have enough ammo left either. But at the final moment when the zombies are about to break the doors when all hope seems lost. Out of nowhere the London military comes and starts shooting at the zombies. The soldiers say “We thought you were overrun” But a couple of them managed to escape. They have to hold off for 10 more minutes but are unsure if they can do that. There are only 10 people shooting and there are a million zombies. There is 1 minute left. Most of the soldiers are down there is only 1 soldier remaining.

There are 5 seconds left but the zombies have broken down the doors. But then one of the soldiers runs through distracting the zombies giving them enough time to hit the button at the last second. The cure explodes in the air and instantly goes around the world. The people are saved. 1 year later: The world is almost done fixing itself and things slowly go back to normal.

If I Owned a Pet Shop By Micah Braswell Tutor: Melissa Replogle If I owned a pet shop, I would name it Fun Pets. It would be a huge store. The pet shop would have two levels. First level has pets in it. Second level has things for pets. I’d like to have dogs, cats, lizards, hamsters and turtles. The first things you would see in the store are cats and dogs. I’d put cats and dogs in the front because they are common. I’d put the other animals in the middle of the store. On the second floor, I’d sell food, cages and toys for the pets. Simon, my brother, helps take care of the pets. He gives them water and food and makes sure they are happy. The store would smell like pets but it would still be clean. The pets would be really loud in the store. It would be a lot of hard work for Simon and me but we like to work together. We really love taking care of all of the pets. I think it would be awesome to own a pet store.

Seahorse Surprise By Darcy Kingston Tutor: Marisa Rosser

Daddy seahorse finds a nice place to stay the night after he ventured away from mommy seahorse. She gave him the eggs to take care of. The next morning, he realized all the eggs hatched, and the babies ran away. Now, Daddy Seahorse searches all over the ocean for them. Then, he meets a turtle named Squirt and asks him if he has seen his babies anywhere. Squirt responded with a simple, “no, but good luck finding them.” Next, Daddy Seahorse meets a manta ray named Manty. He asks Manty if she has seen his babies. She responded with, “I think… I saw 5 of them by the big coral.” Daddy Seahorse then goes to the big coral to search for his babies. He doesn't see his babies, but he sees an octopus named Tentacles. Daddy seahorse says, “Have YOU seen my babies?” “Yes!” said Tentacles. “I have them right here safe and sound.” Daddy Seahorse is so happy his babies are okay. He counts his babies, but he only counted 4 of them. He is still missing 1 baby. A jellyfish named Justin comes by and said, “I heard you were looking for a baby seahorse, I saw one going towards the old shipwreck.” “Oh NO,” says Daddy Seahorse, “that is where the sharks live.” Now, he was really scared and worried about his missing baby. He goes to the old shipwreck, where he sees his baby playing inside, so he goes in to rescue him. He puts the baby in his pouch. Just then, a shark came by. Daddy Seahorse swam away and hid behind a barrel. The shark did not see them. He swims away as fast as he can. He is so happy to have his babies back. He counts them ONE more time just to make sure. He indeed counted 5 babies this time. He is so relieved that all his babies are okay. “This was a very long day,” he says. He hopes this never happens again. The end!

Space Girls By Delilah Hunnicutt Tutor: Staisha Wojciak There were once three girls who loved exploring and saving the solar system. Sophie said, “Let’s explore the galaxy one more time!” Maryana said, “We can explore the planets we haven’t been to yet.” Alena said, “Mercury and Mars!” The three girls went off into space, landing on Planet mars. They saw that Earth was getting weaker because rocks were flying off and starting to hit Earth. The girls quickly thought of what to do. They got super space glue and stuck the rocks back onto Mars. They kept running out and had to use all the glue in the whole world to fix it. Finally, Earth was going to normal again! Earth was healthy and fixed, so they left to explore Mercury. They landed and gasped! Sophie yelled “Oh no! Mercury is getting low on oxygen.” “It’s getting lower, and the aliens can’t breathe!” said Alena. Maryana said, “We have to fix that!” They had to get 1 million bike pumps to connect together and balance their atmospheres. This way they had similar oxygen and they all lived happily ever after!
