SUMMER 2013 VISITING ARTISTS ROBIN KITTLESON A professional studio artist for over 20 years, Robin focuses on creating work that is unique and beautiful yet always functional. Pulling from a graphic design background, she mixes a love for color, texture and patterns with technically advanced kilnforming, printmaking and coldworking techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Robin has a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis with additional studies completed under many leaders in the glass industry. She teaches both graphic design and kilnforming classes throughout the Midwest. DOBRILA PINTAR Dobrila Pintar began her fashion career as a senior buyer for an international department store. After gaining years of experience, she decided to create her own line of one-of-a-kind accessories. In 2007, Lillstreet Art Studio (Chicago) became her home for lampwork, lapidary, painting, ceramics, and metalsmithing. Dobrila’s passion grew with glass beads and she soon became an instructor. Since 2010, Dobrila has been teaching a variety of glass bead classes at Lillstreet. A European native, Dobrila was invited to exhibit her collection at the Slovenian Embassy in front of international diplomats at the 2012 European Union Anniversary Convention. She has also been accepted for the second year in a row to the One of a Kind Shop in Chicago. JOHN RYSZKA John Ryszka II began working with glass at Vincennes University, where he took Scientific and Decorative Glass Blowing as an elective. During that time, John saw an exhibit by an artist whose work included sculptures with incorporated neon lights. This exhibit, together with the scientific glassblowing class, had such an impact that he decided to enroll in the National Neon Institute in Benicia, CA, where he immersed himself in neon and flameworking. In 2003, John moved to Phoenix, AZ, to become a fulltime neon tube bender at Neon Nightscapes. He has continued his studies at the Mesa Art enter, the Sonoran Glass Art Academy, J Street Glass, and most recently in Murano, Italy. In 2007, he began teaching at J Street Glass. John now owns and runs Glass Phoenix. Page 4 • WATER STREET GLASSWORKS • Summer 2014

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT:
ELI ZILKE
• Eli Zilke’s interest in glass started early in life and it was love at first sight! His first encounter with art glass came at the age of eight when his parents chose Venice, Italy, as a family vacation destination. • Eli started working with glass at the age of 11 making glass beads in his kitchen. In 2005 he joined the Fired Up! program at Water Street Glassworks in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and this is where he has spent most of his time ever since. Eli now teaches in the very program that introduced him to glass art.

• Eli is enamored by glass’s ability to bend, reflect and refract light and in his most recent work, he aims to give the illusion of the glass giving off light when none is present. He also enjoys creating micro environments by grouping together cane and murini to give the illusion of movement on an otherwise unchanging canvas. • In addition to all of his time spent at WSG, Eli is now co-owner/operator of The Hot Shop Valpo, a full service glassblowing studio in Valparaiso, IN, where he will spend his time further developing his work and mastering his craft.
