FALL 2014 VISITING ARTISTS WES HUNTING "I took the 'scenic route' to working with glass. In 1976, I started my education at Kent State University with a major in painting. During this time, I had a weekend job as a groundskeeper at Hale Farm near Kent, Ohio, which has a small glass shop. One afternoon the manager told me, 'Get over to the glass studio and give them a hand.' The next thing I knew, I was gathering hot, molten glass out of a replica of a historic furnace. When the next semester started at KSU, I took my first steps into being educated in glass art." In addition to WSG, Wes has taught at Ox-Bow (Saugatuck, MI), Senoran Glass Art Academy and Philabaum Glass (Tucson, AZ) as well as many other schools and studios. His art is included in many public and corporate art collections. Wes opened Hunting Studio Glass in 1979 and now is a full time studio artist. CINDY JENKINS Cindy has been melting glass with a torch for over 30 years. She started with pulling stained glass strips into stringers and twisting strips together to use in fused glass pieces. Cindy is the inventor of the Hot Head torch and author of three books on lampworking including Making Glass Beads. She loves experimenting with lampworking techniques and coming up with new ways to do things. She also loves teaching classes and passing that knowledge on to others. DARLENE TROYER Darlene started working with precious metals over ten years ago. She has studied with some of the best metal artists in the business including: Celie Fago, Linda Kaye Moses, CeCe Wire and J. Fred Woel. Darlene holds a Level I & Level II certification in Metal Clay from PMC Connection. She continually strives to learn the newest techniques that are available in fused glass as well as metal, and believes that her desire to continually learn and experiment is what sets her jewelry apart from the ordinary. Darlene’s designs have been featured in Metal Clay Artist Magazine Gallery and a she has also been a feature writer for Metal Clay Today Magazine. Darlene enjoys a successful career as a jewelry artist, displaying her designs at juried art shows throughout the year and has won numerous awards. She recently was chosen to display her unique designs at the Buchanan Art Center's Summer 2014 Artist Exhibition. SHAWN WATT Growing up, Shawn Watt was always finding outlets for creativity and ways to learn new skills, whether it was tinkering with machines or painting his friends’ skateboards. After taking his first Water Street Glassworks course in 2006, he dove in head-first, taking more classes and pleading for a job shortly thereafter. Shawn gained experience at Ox-Bow (Saugatuck, MI), and Penland School of Craft (Penland, NC), where he trained with Italian glassmaster Davide Salvedore. He began working as a teaching assistant for Jerry Catania at both Water Street Glassworks and Ox-Bow. He then spent several years cultivating his skills and style as a full-time glassblower at Silver Dollar City, in Branson, MO. Now the Master Glassblower there, Shawn continues to work with glass and metal in collaboration with other artists and studios.
Introducing David Edwards, new instructor at WSG David has been a hobbyist blacksmith for the past 14 years. He is a member of the Indiana Blacksmithing Association and has demonstrated with them at various events. David also had the opportunity to do restoration work on some 1914 horse-drawn carts.
