WSIU Radio Explores Gallatin County’s Historic Crenshaw House Located in Gallatin County near the town of Equality, Ill., the historic CRENSHAW HOUSE, also known as the Old Slave House, has a storied past. Some facts are known, while other aspects of the well-known landmark are, at best, legend and heresay. Dr. Mark Wagner, director of SIU Carbondale’s Center for Archaeological Investigations, led a team to conduct a thorough scientific investigation of the site. The team used the latest technology, like remote-sensing equipment and ground-penetrating radar, to do the work. In this feature, Wagner sits down with WSIU Radio’s Kevin Boucher to talk about the results of their research.
