We're pleased to provide two community film screenings in March. Learn more about the impact of physician shortages in rural America with The Providers and get an intimate look at America's favorite neighbor, Fred Rogers, in Won't You Be My Neighbor.

April 27 • 12-3pm Join us at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon for our free, annual family day. This year we bring the world to children of all ages with the help of Let’s Go Luna!, a new PBS KIDS program that makes connections between communities all over the world. Guests will meet international students from SIU and learn about their cultures, take pictures with walkaround characters Arthur and D.W., and enjoy a children’s book giveaway. Guests can get into the rhythm with Drumz-R-Guru-Ven, and enjoy circus performances by the St. Louis Arches youth troupe. Find details at wsiu.org/luna. Join us Sun, Mar. 9 at 2:30pm at The Carbondale Public Library for The Providers screening. The film follows three doctors from New Mexico as they provide care to rural Americans who would otherwise be left without healthcare. Stick around after the film for a community conversation around local healthcare infrastructure and access, health disparities, and the impact of addiction on local healthcare systems.

2:30PM Then, join us Sun, Mar. 24 at 2:30pm at the library for a special screening and discussion celebrating the life, career, and influence of America’s favorite neighbor: Fred Rogers. Guests are invited to share their favorite Mister Rodgers memories after the screening. Independent Lens’ Won’t You Be My Neighbor? tells the story of a soft-spoken minister, puppeteer, writer, and producer whose show touched Americans for more than 30 years. In his beloved television program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Rogers spoke directly to young children about some of life’s weightiest issues in a simple, direct fashion.
