Love & Lust Some say that we can compare love and lust to a bonfire. Lust is the spark that starts that fire and gets the fires burning hot while love is the slow and steady burn that sustains that bonfire. In the physical sense, lust focuses on physical attraction at the expense of dulling the other senses. It is also more concerned in that particular moment -- the short-term satisfaction. It is selfish in the sense that it only cares about satisfying that intense desire to keep on getting more to satiate its desire. It is insatiable desire and the more it gets, the more it wants. Love on the other hand doesn’t focus on itself but focuses more on one desire -- the desire to please the other person. Its desire is to give and not to take. Love seeks real intimacy and continues to persist and exist even if the fire isn’t burning as hot as when it first started. Two key ingredients of love that is not present in lust is persistence and patience. Lust is short-lived. It can start a bonfire but it cannot keep the fire burning because it is not persistent or patient enough to do so. Persistence and patience -- two key ingredients in winning. Persistence is the firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without getting angry or upset. Both are tough characteristics which only winners possess. A popular proverb says it well -- “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

The birth of this publication started in February. A month where winners are made as well as recognized for their achievements. The biggest sporting event, the Super Bowl, is held in the first week of February. Football’s grueling 17 game season which starts in September takes its toll on 32 teams vying for the prize of being called world champions. Football is a tough and competitive sport and the top two teams battle it out on Super Bowl Sunday at the start of every new year. This year’s Super Bowl proved that persistence and patience wins over anything. The New England Patriots made football history by overcoming a 25 point lead by the Atlanta Falcons. When most everyone probably gave up on their chances of winning the game, their quarterback and leader, Tom Brady, was persistent and patient in leading his team from a comefrom-behind win to prove that you can never count a winner out. In a fee weeks, we will be witnesses to two award ceremonies, the Grammys, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the music industry and the Oscars, which recognizes excellence in cinematic achievements in the United States. The world loves winners. Who doesn’t? We celebrate our 4th year as a publication as a win. And we are thankful for all the contributors and the talent who believe in what we are doing. Come celebrate our 4th year WIN with us!
