New Beginnings The beauty of new beginnings is the endless possibilities that lie ahead. All it takes is the courage to engage in and pursue these new pathways. Without fail, at the stroke of midnight on the last day of the year, we welcome a new year ready to turn over a new leaf so to speak. It’s as if the next day, all the problems and challenges of the previous 365 days will magically disappear and give us a new slate. That is the beauty of that one day transformation that gives us hope for what lies ahead and also empowers us with the strength to conquer. Resolutions galore and we’re ready to face the next 365 days, confident that our often inebriated self after engaging in last minute libations, will be flying high with new wings. The problem with resolutions is that very few of us are resolute in pursuing those lofty goals and often by the second week of the new year, the drudgery and the weight of our problems and challenges come back with a vengeance as we abandon our resolve and retreat into comfortable habits. For most, the prospect of starting anything new and introducing what could potentially be life-altering is scary and daunting. If you’ve ever started a new exercise routine or tried writing and maintaining a year-long journal, you’ll know what I mean. The first few sentences of a new writing project, like this editor’s note is something that I have often started at the last minute because it is really hard to write about something...actually anything!

Starting a new exercise regime is the same. By the time you get into it, so many distractions and life responsibilities can get in the way. Pretty soon we are tempted to stray and instead of avoiding that sugar treat, we succumb to the pressure and fall into the same old habits slowly but surely. The only way to get rid of bad habits is to replace them with good ones. Simply removing the bad habits without replacing them with good ones will set us up for failure. The first step to success is showing up! Pick a meaningful and reachable goal. Be specific with the statement of your goal and have a measurable result with a deadline for achieving this. Make a plan and stick to it. There will be challenges but you need to make a plan and a backup plan and ways to avoid pitfalls. Remember, you can restart and continue on the path to success when you have a plan that you can execute. Finally, find a community of like-minded people who can help you achieve your goals. Don’t go it alone. Recognize that you can’t do this on your own and you need the help of others to encourage you to put your plan into action and follow through with it. Happy New Year everyone!

NIGHT OUT WEAR

Everything in fashion comes back around, what’s old is made new again, what is cliché, becomes fresh. Once again, Jumpsuits are having a moment. Originally designed as a practical piece of clothing worn by parachutes and sky divers thanks to a Florentine artist in 1919. They resurfaced in a big way during the disco era, and that style of Jumpsuits is having a resurgence in 2019. People seem to be wearing them to jump out on the dance floor more than anything! Here are a few of my favorite stand out jumpsuit looks I captured by happenstance while out on the town.

JUMPSUITS First up, this lovely lass is rocking a green floral jumpsuit, the color and pattern make it stand out among the large NYE crowd of little sparkly dresses at Nyne Downtown. The loose fit adds an element of comfort for dancing.

Yours Truly Follow me on Instagram @ Obsessed_with_getting_ dressed, to catch my own daily fashions, and find out where I’ve found my favorite jackets this season. Tag #spokanestreetfashion if you spot real life fashionistas out and about making our city proud with trendy or bold looks!

CATSUITS Check out this disco diva! Little black dress? I think Everyone needs to upgrade to a little black catsuit. This number made for some classy and sassy NYE wear. There is some epic 70s throwback happening with the cut of this piece.

Audreana Camm: Taking to the streets to research what’s dominating local trends among Spokanites, and to catch those who stand out amongst the crowd.

RETURN OF THE JUMPSUIT My go to for NYE? A catsuit you can see from a mile away… I was on a mission to outshine every disco ball in my spandex glitter suit.

OVERALLS Is A jump suit too much for you? Plenty of Spokanites are sporting overalls lately! They are casual and practical, but add a flavor you wouldn’t find with the typical jeans look. We are seeing plenty of 80’s 90’s details, from her hat to her docs, this look is playful but not over the top.
