FLOWERPOT LANDSCAPE
Project 3xLP Project 3xLP, the winning submission to the TEX-FAB SKIN competition conducted design research on the structural properties of textured stainless steel sheeting, which typically is used for skinning and other nonstructural purposes. The team conducted performative analyses of the material, and verified the results through full-scale prototyping. Structural studies relied on scale shifts that began with molecular composition and culminated with largesale geometric systems.
Form
EXOtique, Digital Fabrication in a Week Their final product is a lit, componentbased, drop ceiling. Everything was accomplished in Grasshopper besides the input surface from Rhino. Their motivation was to create a simple, hexagonally based, component system that would act as a lit "drop ceiling" for the space.
Material
Landesgartenschau Exhibition Hall Designed and built at the Institute for Computational Design, part of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning at the University of Stuttgart. The Landesgartenschau Exhibition Hall is constructed from 2" thick beech plywood, with 243 panels machined on a 7-axis tool that created 7,600 finger joints. The very complex vault is designed on the computer with each of the pieces, sort of shaped like a sand dollar, cut out on a CNC machine and then finished by the robot arm.

Laser Cut Shape Assembly
Advantage: Sometimes the pieces are easily to be aligned. And it is efficient for us to assemble them. Disadvantage: The accuracy is limited by the ratio of pieces number and thickness.

Using curves to make surfaces. Extruding surfaces.
Final Work
Separating up and bottom lattice. Dividing intersection geometries to two parts. Each control each.

Consideration of a robotic arm assembly: Basically, a robot need a specific thing to get stuck each piece in a specific dimention space. Secondly, a robot should know the correct orientation and order of each piece, also the direction of each interlocking. Finally, the material should be rigid, the size of each notch should be accurate, and the finer of the robot's fingers the better.
