Mar Vista Neighborhood Association annual Picnic

JUNE 29, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

O

n June 29, Windward School was honored to host Mar Vista Neighborhood Association’s Annual Block Party. Located on Windward’s Foley Field, the Picnic was an afternoon full of fun with our friends and neighbors and was a great way to kick off Summer!

Highlights included: • Music by the Venice School of Rock • Neighbors potluck delights • Craft activities for kids • Fun and games • Windward sponsored BBQ

SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY

O

n May 5, Windward once again partnered with Mar Vista Elementary for Big Sunday, one of many such events in a month-long betterment initiative devoted to providing service in the community. Windward students, parents, and faculty teamed up with members of the Mar Vista community to bring a fresh look to the Mar Vista Elementary campus.

Doing Our Part At Windward, we pride ourselves on being a good neighbor. As part of that commitment, we recently introduced new signage around campus to remind and encourage the respect of our community.

Volunteers painted classrooms, pulled weeds, and provided general upkeep, further fostering the spirit of community Windward so proudly shares with its neighborhood. Said Ashley Goodman, Director of Service Learning, on this year’s event: “It was so wonderful to see the two schools, who are a part of the same community, come

together on a Sunday morning. We accomplished so much in just a few short hours. Several people were having such a good time, they elected to stay well past the end of the event to put finishing touches on the projects they were working on! Mar Vista Elementary is a great community partner, and we enjoy working with them both inside and outside of the classroom.”

SECURITY UPDATE As a school operating in a residential neighborhood, we partner with the city and you, our community, to ensure that we are a good neighbor. Windward is committed to implement a traffic mitigation plan starting in the 20192020 school year. This plan includes key components such as: • An increased participation in our bus program • Limiting the number of student drivers by mandating carpools • Increasing the efficiency of student and adult-driven carpools

We hope these changes will further the positive relationship we have with our neighbors and our ongoing efforts to be as green as possible.
