4 | Wylie Parks & Recreation | Activity Menu | Sept - Dec 2017 | QUESTIONS? TWEET US! @WYLIERECREATION
RUN WALK BIKE HIKE
THE SECOND PHASE OF THE MUNICIPAL COMPLEX TRAIL, EAST MEADOW, IS NOW COMPLETE. This fall, visitors will have an additional 1.5 miles of trail to explore; the new portion connects to the existing Municipal Complex Trail. East Meadow Trail will connect visitors from the Creekhollow Estates to the Municipal Complex Trail, which already provides access from Country Club Road to Brown Street and meanders behind City Hall, Wylie Recreation Center, and Smith Public Library. This new addition of trail features an 8-foot-wide boardwalk that connects Creekhollow Estates to the East Meadow and on to the Municipal Complex. The southeast corner of the trail has a creek overlook area providing visitors an opportunity to explore a tributary of Muddy Creek. The far south end of the trail winds through the woods and runs parallel to railroad tracks. In addition to the new features East Meadow Trail has to offer, there is also a 29-space parking lot located off of West Brown Street. Visitors will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy nature with several rest areas featuring benches and pet stations placed throughout the trail. A nature path cuts across the meadow from the existing Municipal Trail to the boardwalk going into Creekhollow Estates.
EAST MEADOW - SOUTH END Pedestrian connectivity to the complex is a high priority for the City of Wylie. The City’s 2012 Trails Master Plan identified the area near FM 544 and Country Club Road, as well as the East Meadow, as a major trail gateway and intersection. The East Meadow Trail will prove to be an important component of the trail system in years to come. This section will not only connect more visitors to the existing trail, but it will continue to promote the vibrant and active Municipal Complex as a quality location for events, civic activities, and recreation. Construction of the East Meadow Trail has been funded in part by the Collin County Parks and Open Space Program and the City of Wylie’s Park Land Acquisition and Improvement. Cost total approximately $950,000. EAST MEADOW TRAIL CONCEPT PLAN ON PAGE 32
