OUTDOORS with Wylie parks, trails, and open space
Wylie Parks is taking fitness outside of the traditional gym setting. Over 16 miles of trails, specialized athletic fields, and parks are available to help you meet your workout goals.
Kreymer Estates Park is home to Wylie’s only public outdoor fitness gym. This unique outdoor fitness space combines gym-like equipment strategically placed along a 2-mile long trail allowing for a complete upper, lower, and core body workout. Find 12 pieces total at stations around the trail including elliptical machine, pull up and dip combo, step balance and double hip twist combo, lower back trainer, torso bench, air strider, and hip swing combo pieces with signage for proper usage techniques and targeted muscle groups. This park was made possible by a joint partnership between the Kreymer Estates HOA and the City of Wylie Parks and Recreation Department. Kreymer Estates Park is located at 101 Lyndhurst Drive.

AWESOME EXPERTS SANDY ELKINS offers fine art painting classes. She started painting as a hobby in 2005. In 2011, she became a Robert Garden Certified Instructor. Her lessons include using oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolors, oil pastels, and charcoal. She teaches several techniques using the different mediums, through monthly classes and camps. She teaches perspective, color theory, and timesaving brush strokes, so students may develop a greater understanding of the visual world. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since July 2012.
PATTI BRADLEY is a 200-Hour Yoga Alliancecertified instructor with additional training from CorePower Yoga, YogaFit, and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. Patti mixes several types of yoga into her teaching style, including Vinyasa, Power, and Hatha, paying special attention to transitions, alignment, safety, and fun. AWESOME EXPERTS LORI JAYNES teaches Zumba Fitness. She considers herself a late bloomer in the exercise world, but believes it is never too late to begin a healthy lifestyle. Lori began working for the Senior Recreation Center in 2016, and received her Zumba Basic certification in 2017, and Zumba Gold certification in 2018 in order to share her passion for dance and music with seniors. Lori’s goal is to get you moving and show that exercise should be about having fun.
KATHARINE ISBELL, a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, has completed over 500 hours of yoga training and has been teaching in the Wylie area since 2008. Her specialty is Gentle Flow Yoga in which poses and flows, chosen to suit the student’s abilities, are sequenced into a coherent practice. Her desire is to build stronger, healthier participants by sequentially relaxing different areas of the body while strengthening others. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since February 2008.

JAMES RANDELL has been practicing Tibetan, Wu, Wu (Hao), and Yang Tai Chi since 1990. He began his student teaching in 1998 under the direction of his teacher and mentor Dr. Robert Carpenter in New Mexico. After four years of training, James was awarded a black belt and the title of “Sifu” (teacher) in Yang style Tai Chi in 2000. JAN WILLS is a lifelong artist and advocate. Her experience in oil painting, watercolor, and drawing led her to share her passion and begin teaching in 1978. Jan’s goal is for her students to have fun and learn how to use skills they never knew they had. Jan believes “anyone can draw, you just have to give them the tools.”

LUPE KUHARSKY offers Wreath Making. Lupe is a former educator and administrator for Mesquite ISD and has been a participant of the Senior Recreation Center since 2012. She was inspired to start crafting at a young age by her sister, who owned a craft store, and her neighbor who loved to create jewelry. MATT KRUSE offers woodworking and Texas Hold ‘Em instruction. Since joining the Senior Recreation Center staff in 2013, he has become the go-to handyman and card dealer. Matt is an experienced woodcrafter who can build anything from cabinetry to decorative figurines. Matt perfected his woodworking and whittling skills while growing up on the family farm. AWESOME EXPERTS PAM LITTLE leads the Rock On class at Wylie Senior Recreation Center. She has been part of the Senior Recreation Center team since 2016 and strongly believes in expressing yourself through art. Her love for crafting began when she was a Brownie in Girl Scouts and has grown into a full-time hobby in her adult life. Pam is a patient leader and enjoys engaging with her students in new crafting projects.
ALEXIS ARMSTRONG offers craft instruction. She has been working for the Senior Recreation Center since 2017. Alexis has always enjoyed crafting with family and friends. She has helped with the holiday craft projects and decorating for parties and luncheons, and has even taken on the role of bingo caller since becoming a member of the team. Alexis enjoys helping others expand their creative expression and have fun.
SHAWN SLINGERLAND teaches TechTalk. Shawn began his career in the computer industry in the early ‘80s as a computer programmer and retired in 2015 from CA Technologies. He enjoys spending his retirement taking and editing photos, and sharing his knowledge of computers with fellow seniors. Shawn is also a volunteer instructor for the City of Plano where he teaches computer classes.

DAVID WASHINGTON is an all-around athlete, playing tennis and varsity basketball and running cross country in high school. He earned All-City and went on to play basketball for the University of Arkansas. Following graduation, David went on to play professional basketball overseas, playing in Ukraine, Poland, Scotland, China, and other countries. Upon his return he began coaching. David has a passion for coaching, mentoring, and motivating his students for success both on and off the court.

YEE HSUN U holds a fifth degree black belt in Ryubukai Okinawan Karate-Do and a first degree black belt in Kojosho Karate. Since 1967, Yee Hsun has practiced various forms of martial arts including Karate-Do, Taekwondo and Bukijutsu (Kobudo), Judo, Wing Chun Kungfu, and Arnis. Yee Hsun has been an assistant instructor to sensei Nakaya of the Okinawan Karate-Do classes since 2004 and the head instructor at the City of Mesquite Florence Community Center since 2008. GINA KATIN has been coaching volleyball since 2011. She plays competitive sand volleyball every week, but her true passion is teaching kids. Gina coaches all ages, from kindergarten through high school. Her classes focus on the rules, plays, and techniques of volleyball. She gained her love of archery through her family who taught her about the sport. Bee enjoys shooting with her family and participating in friendly competitions. Bee’s objective is to share her passion of archery with others.
DAVID WILMOT has been playing pickleball since 2003. He began teaching beginner and intermediate pickleball classes in 2013 and has been a major advocate in bringing pickleball to the North Dallas area. David focuses on fun, fundamentals, and safety in each class. He sees himself as a guide rather than a coach as pickleball can match whatever skill level the individual brings to the court.

WYLIE PARKS = 700+ acres of parkland and open space
In those parks, you’ll find over 16 miles of trails, 18 playgrounds, and 11 pavilions available for reservation, soccer fields, baseball fields, football fields, a nine-hole disc golf course, a cricket pitch, and much more. Over the next few years, the Parks and Recreation Department plans to continue implementation of the 2012 Trails Master Plan, which will increase the miles of trail in Wylie to better connect you with your community.

GREYHAWK PARK 2301 RAY HUBBARD WAY Greyhawk Park is the fourth and newest of its kind as an HOA-maintained park that resides on City property. An 8-foot-wide concrete trail measuring half of a mile in length meanders through the park complete with a picnic shelter, picnic tables, benches and pet stations. Greyhawk Park sits on approximately 6 acres, and offers several pleasantries. Take a quiet stroll through the woods on the trail, or celebrate a birthday party at the shaded shelter.
MUDDY CREEK PRESERVE
5351 PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD Muddy Creek Preserve is a unique park that is owned by Dallas County, but maintained jointly by the cities of Wylie and Sachse. The preserve covers 205 acres, and is split by Pleasant Valley Road. The area north of Pleasant Valley is maintained by the City of Wylie, and features a small parking lot and a half-mile concrete trail loop. This is one of few heavy-wooded areas left in this part of Dallas County and is a great place to experience nature.

ACTIVITY SATISFACTION GUARANTEE So you tried Macramé Comeback and it just wasn’t for you. A full refund is available through the first day of most contracted courses. If you are dissatisfied with the quality of a registered activity, please contact a staff person immediately so we may have an opportunity to solve the problem. DON’T MISS A THING! Activity registrations are available on a first-come, first-served basis with full payment. Register early and guarantee your spot before maximum enrollment is met. Full payment and waiver are required prior to participation. Allow time for your front desk registration or skip the line and register online. Activities cancel several days out if minimum enrollment is unmet. Register early and encourage friends to do the same. Registering “in bulk” is encouraged as a timesaver. Full refunds are available for most multi-day activities through the first meeting date. Review full withdraw and refund policies prior to registration. ANYTIME ACTIVITY REGISTRATION Register online with a credit card for most activities at https://apm.activecommunities.com/wylie. Some exclusions apply. IN-PERSON ACTIVITY REGISTRATION Register in person with cash, check, or credit card at Wylie Recreation Center, Senior Recreation Center, or Parks and Recreation Administration Office during business hours. ACTIVITY REGISTRATION SCHEDULE Get the worm! Activity seasons open up for Early Bird Online Registration (EBOR) one week prior to standard registration. Winter and Spring activities with a start date between January and May open up Dec. 1 for EBOR. Summer Activities with a start date between June and August open up for EBOR on May 1. Fall and Winter Activities with a start date between September and December open up for EBOR on Aug. 1. Some Activities may require special registration procedures including deadlines. Some Activities may be excluded. ACTIVITY DISCOUNTS The City of Wylie Parks and Recreation Department offers ongoing discount programs to encourage enrollment in a variety of recreation activities. An Early Bird Online Registration (EB)
discount of 5% is available for online registrations processed during the week prior to standard registration. The discount is available for designated activities. A Rec Pass Holder (RP) discount of 15% is available to current Rec Pass Holders for most contracted activities held at Wylie Recreation Center. The RP discount may be combined with Early Bird Online Registration. To receive the discount when registering online, use your existing account tied to your Rec Pass. Let us know if you need assistance, Recreation@WylieTexas.gov or 972-5166360. EB and RP discounts may not be applied to Special Events, Leagues, off-site activities, or staff-led activities. ACTIVITY WAITLIST You may be eligible for a waitlist when an activity has filled. If space opens up, waitlisted guests will be contacted in the order received. Please maintain current contact information with us. Waitlisted guests will be given a limited amount of time to follow up with a full registration before the next waitlisted guest will be contacted. The waitlist does not guarantee your spot nor serve as registration. ACTIVITY CANCELLATIONS Encourage friends to register with you and register early. An instructor may require a minimum number of participants before offering an activity. A decision about whether or not to cancel an activity is typically made the Friday before an activity starts. Please maintain current contact information with us. Registrants are notified by phone. If your activity cancels, you may transfer to another available activity, leave the credit on your account for future use, or request a refund. Supply fees are nonrefundable regardless of withdraw or cancellation of the class. ACTIVITY SUPPLIES Books, handouts, and other supplies are included with your registration unless otherwise noted. ACTIVITY WITHDRAW AND REFUND The City of Wylie Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to try something new and enjoy your enrollment. All patron-initiated withdraw requests must be made in writing and delivered to an employee or emailed to Recreation@WylieTexas.gov. Withdraw requests must include 1) date of the request, 2) full name of the person being withdrawn, 3) name of the activity, 4) reason for withdraw, 5) mailing address, and 6) how you would like the eligible registration fees applied. Registration fees eligible for refund may be applied 1) to your account with us for future use, 2) transferred into another eligible activity, or 3) refunded back to you. To be eligible for credit, 1) Requests for Contracted Activities and Courses must be received prior to the start time of the second class meeting. 2) Requests for withdraw and refund of Flex Reg Programs, One-Day Activities, Trips, and Special Events must be received at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time. 3) Requests for withdraw, and refund of Activities categorized as Camps must be received no later than noon, Friday before the first day of the camp. Refund requests made after the time limitations previously

listed result in forfeit of any refund. Activities that require advanced ticket purchase are nonrefundable. In the case of staff-initiated withdraw due to course cancellation or other reasons, staff will contact you to discuss how you would like your eligible fees applied, 1) to your account with us for future use, 2) transferred into another eligible activity, or 3) refunded back to you. If this information is not relayed to staff within seven days, any eligible fees will be automatically refunded. All refunds will be made to the original payer only. If original payment was received in the form of a credit card, the refund will be processed to the same valid credit card; allow three to five days for processing. All other refunds will be processed in the form of a check from the City of Wylie; allow four to five weeks for processing. Supply fees are nonrefundable regardless of withdraw or cancellation of the class. To make a request for accommodation, please contact the facility supervisor where the activity is coordinated prior to registration. ENHANCEMENT REQUESTS You are encouraged to suggest recreation enhancements. Activities, features, and programs are added or changed based on need and industry trends. To help us help you, please complete an Enhancement Request form as thoroughly as possible. Staff will review your request for possible existing means and/or alternatives. The decision to implement an enhancement is largely based on need, industry trend, and impact on resources. Enhancement implementation or response is not guaranteed. Forms are available at the facilities and online, WylieTexas.gov. Email requests, Recreation@WylieTexas.gov are also encouraged. REC PASS REGISTRATION AND TERMS OF USE Guests that are ages 18 years and older must provide a valid driver’s license and proof of residency to register for and purchase a Rec Pass. Ages 7 through 17 must have the waiver signed by parent or legal guardian to purchase a Rec Pass. Ages birth up to 6 years of age must be directly supervised by an adult ages 18 years and older at all times in a City of Wylie Recreation Division facility. Registered Annual and 1 Month Rec Passes allow the identified person entrance to Wylie Recreation Center. Registered Junior ID Rec Passes allow the identified youth, ages 6 years and younger, entrance to Wylie Recreation Center. Registered Sr. ID Rec Passes allow the identified person entrance to the Senior Recreation Center. The use of the Rec Pass is governed by, and the Rec Pass Holder agrees to abide by, City of Wylie Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedure. A Rec Pass is non-refundable and non-transferable. A Rec
Pass expires at one month or one year from date issued. A Rec Pass is property of the City of Wylie and must be returned upon staff request. Each guest must purchase and scan their own Rec Pass. A completed City of Wylie Waiver and Release is required for all Rec Pass Holders. Proof of residency is required to receive or renew a Rec Pass. The City of Wylie may ask for identification at any time. A replacement card must be purchased at a rate of $5 for lost or damaged cards. The Day Pass allows the identified person entrance to Wylie Recreation Center during operating hours for the day purchased only. The use of the Day Pass is governed by, and the pass holder agrees to abide by, City of Wylie Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedure. A Day Pass is non-refundable and non-transferable. Each guest who does not have an active Rec Pass must purchase a Day Pass or a Rec Pass. A completed City of Wylie Waiver and Release is required for all Day Pass holders. Valid proof of identification and address is required to purchase a Day Pass. The City of Wylie may ask for identification at any time. QUALIFICATIONS & VERIFICATION Qualifications or criteria may be required for activity and pass registration, discounts, reduced fees, and reservation rates. Some of the criteria may include residency. A resident is someone who resides in Wylie city limits and pays City of Wylie property tax on residence. Residency is verified by staff review of the guest’s most recent City of Wylie utility bill and valid driver’s license or government issued ID. FACILITY RENTALS With at least two weeks’ notice reservations accepted up to 90 days in advance on a first-come, first-served basis pending availability. Your rental time must include your setup and cleanup time. All fees, deposits, and Agreements due at initial booking request. You may have an open Permit for up to four open bookings at one time. Minimum charge applied to all reservations. Review, print and/or complete the following prior to requesting booking: Recreation Facility Rules and Guidelines, Rental Terms and Conditions, Gym Rental Guest Check-In List, Climbing Wall Rental Participation Waiver, and Recommended Capacity at WylieTexas.gov.
