ETIHAD MODERN ART GALLERY Etihad Modern Art Gallery is an independently run, sponsored art gallery located at the heart of Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates. Our primary goal is to develop the next generation of artists through exciting and different exhibitions, events and exclusive publications from a breadth of talent. The talent at Etihad Modern Art Gallery doesn’t distinguish or discriminate between contemporary, urban, street and pop art, rather embrace and look to display visually engaging exhibitions from a hybrid of artistic disciplines. The gallery’s core principal of offering affordable original artworks and limited editions is combined with the belief that the work on display must have a strong visual impact and high quality production. This is what unites all of the artists we work with, as many experiment with a variety of different media from a multitude of backgrounds and disciplines. The gallery’s founder, H.E. Khaled Seddiq Al Muttawa, created a friendly and versatile art environment that is open to everyone. Over the past three years Khaled has always championed new and interesting visual artists, irrespective of background or discipline. He has seen a huge number of what were once seen as new and emerging artists grow into the household names that are now collected all over the world. The championing of new artists and their work has never been more prominent than in the last 3 years. Etihad organized significant art shows and local heritage exhibitions and created bonds with the International art scene and academic institutions worldwide. The gallery is invited international artists to live, teach and create art in the UAE. The aim is to motivate local artists to showcase their work and host a wide range of parallel cultural activities like art workshops, poetry nights and music events. Etihad Modern Art Gallery is a strong art organization deeply rooted in the local community, aiming to play a positive role in the brightly emerging art scene of Abu Dhabi and integrating different cultures with the local community.

AbdulQader Al Rais Sumaya Al Rais Musab Al Rais

AbdulQader Al Rais The UAEâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most important and highly celebrated artist, AbdulQader Al Rais was born in 1951. He left Dubai at the age of 6 to study in Kuwait, a country that would come shape his initial artistic and intellectual development. Returning to Dubai in 1974 to take up a position at the Ministry of Labor, the prospective artist earned a degree in Sharia Law at the United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain. Largely self-taught, his artistic interest in local architectural styles and the natural world gave shape to an acute eye for romantic realism. His early work explored the Emirati landscape: its coastlines and idyllic scenery. Despite his worksâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; essential realism, AbdulQader distilled the fluid elements of the terrain into an exploratory mysticism which resonates with power and vitality. Not only did the artist train himself to capture a sense of place, but also a sense of time, all through the challenging and expressive medium of watercolor painting. His paintings are in many museums such as British Museum, Louver Paris Museum, Art Museum Sharjah, Amman Modern Art Museum Jordan, Qatar Museum, Shanghai museum, India Art Museum New Delhi, Kuwait Art Museum and North West Spokane Museum in the United States. For his achievements he has received many awards.

He was awarded his first major accolade as a young artist for an artwork inspired by the movie The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965, dir. Carol Reed), signaling the beginning of his extraordinary life in art. AbdulQader’s incessant pencil and watercolor sketches clearly defined his role in life as a perfectionist who labored to get the right balance of color through experimental techniques that he would apply to successive artworks. These early works led to awards and critical acclaim from national and international media, making AbdulQader Al Rais a household name in the GCC world of fine arts. Sumaya Al Rais Sumaya AbdulQader Al Rais, Emirate Artist, received her baccalaureate in the Department of Islamic and Arabic studies in (Dubai). She began her career in painting at the age of eighteen. Sumaya grew up in a house with an artistic background; she was very impressed with art drawings by her father AbdulQader Al Rais. Most of her work addresses the culture she was born in. Her drawings are a combination of the inherent heritage and modernity. She stopped her art career for several years due to her circumstances. Musab Al Rais Musab Al Rais was born in 1980 an engineering graduate; he has participated in several Exhibitions in the UAE. Musab Al Rais tries to convey both his modern Emirati identity and his heritage through these ambiguous scenes. He has innate knowledge of art and has been painting from his early childhood. Musab has a distinct style of painting yet one can see an inspiration from his father’s style through the use of limpid color spaces, stippling style and other common signs between the father and his son, his father the epitome of UAE art. At first Musab’s paintings may look plain abstract paintings but a moment of thought provokes the feeling of a landscape, seascape or a cityscape. He uses acrylic as a medium to propel his work from a lifeless canvas into a work of art that paints a story of the country’s cultural lineage and makes an unmistakable mark of Musab’s Emirati identity. The use of the blues monotones overlapping the reds and the formations of grey has a lasting impression on the onlookers mind. He also does Still life with a blend of his abstract background, which is a unique style created by him, the paintings of doors, windows, and lanterns, is a proof of the artist’s desire to show the cultural reflection in his paintings.
