VISION
OF OUR FOUNDER
H.E. KHALED SEDDIQ AL MUTTAWA CHAIRMAN AND FOUNDER ETIHAD MODERN ART GALLERY
We are the generation that witnessed the creation of the union, and we’re proud to have seen the dynamic development and prosperity of the United Arab Emirates since its inception until now. “We have exciting initiatives and plans coming up for the local art community as we are always searching for something unique so the public can expect surprises. Etihad Modern Art Gallery hopes that the arts will continue to play a major role in developing the community, supporting cultural heritage and pass to future generations of the United Arab Emirates. This is very important, first for my country, then for my kids and people in general. It’s very important to know who we are and there’s so many things, hidden information, for us to see. “The works we display show appreciation to the land by those who come and experience the country and its bounty.”

ETIHAD MODERN ART GALLERY
ABOUT US Etihad Modern Art Gallery (EMAG) is a multi-purpose art space and café in the heart of the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. The gallery is open to the public every day (excluding Fridays) from 10am to 10pm, with an open door and free admission policy. In 2016, EMAG’s continued success brought in a respected European curator. Now, EMAG has a new exhibition with a VIP opening every month and importantly, we have extended our connections with respected galleries and institutions in Europe. In December 2016, EMAG was the first ever privatelyfunded gallery from the UAE to host a large scale
exhibition in Berlin, the art capital of Europe. The ‘Art Nomads: Made in Abu Dhabi’ exhibition announced the arrival of Emirati artists in the international art world with numerous excellent reviews in German and international media, including Harper’s Bazaar magazine. During 2017, EMAG will continue the promotion of excellent Emirati and UAE-based international artists with a presence in celebrated Art Fairs around the world. The planned 2017 season of exhibitions will see an even more diverse and prestigious display of new and exciting artists from around the globe and continued international publicity for UAE culture.

The owner, H.E. Khaled Siddiq Al Mutawaa, envisioned a friendly and versatile art space, that is open to everyone, which encouraged the promotion, discussion and growing appreciation of the burgeoning Emirati art scene. Opening in 2013, EMAG organised significant art shows and local heritage exhibitions, creating bonds with the international art scene and academic institutions. We achieved this by inviting international artists to live, teach and create in the UAE, motivating local artists to showcase their work and hosting a wide range of parallel cultural activities like art workshops, poetry nights and music events.

WHY BUILD A COLLECTION? Primarily, a private collection is to be enjoyed and to enrich the life of the collector. One-of-a-kind art pieces are also an excellent investment. Additionally, a considered collection protects and progresses the artistic and cultural heritage of a nation.
WHAT SERVICE DO WE PROVIDE? Our professional all-round service ensures complete protection of valuable artwork. We provide all essential documentation, arrange storage, shipping and insurance, as well as fully assisting in framing selection and safeguarding installation. For the pieces in your collection, we also keep track of relative performance in international auction houses, so that you will be aware of the current estimated value of your investments.
SUPPLYING IMPRESSIVE ART TO HOTELS Hotels need to stand out from the crowd as both business travellers and tourists have increasingly higher and sophisticated demands for their accommodation. Unique artwork that adorns the walls of a hotel creates an ambience that goes above and beyond ordinary hotel decoration, which results in a pleasurable atmosphere for guests. This is an essential part of our advisory service which aims to create, establish and then refine a corporation’s collection. We offer prudent advice for purchases and sales of art for auctions and private sales alike.
EMAG will handle all attributes of due diligence, provenance and authentication so that a corporation can be assured of the legality of their artwork. Needless to say that we will also take care of all the small details such as framing, hanging, lighting, storage, insurance, so that investment art can simply be enjoyed without any of the hassle of the minutia.
CORPORATE ART COLLECTIONS Corporate collections are well-known to be excellent long-term investments, regardless of global economic conditions. A corporation’s brand image will receive a great boost when acknowledged with the high-status of art connoisseur.

Furthermore, a valuable and respected art collection provides fantastic and numerous opportunities for positive publicity and marketing in all forms of media, adding a cultural and human aspect to the company’s image. A visible collection in the workplace can also be the winning factor to attracting highly sought after employees.
ENHANCED GUEST EXPERIENCE Wealthy and discerning hotel guests are increasingly knowledgable and critical regarding contemporary art. The ideal situation is to complement interior design with imaginative, eye-catching and memorable art, so much so, that hotel customers enquire as to ‘who is the artist?’. Then a hotelier can rest assured that their investment in quality art has paid off and fulfilled its primary role of creating an enhanced guest experience. The EMAG specialist has worked hand-in-hand with new-build hotels, prior to opening, to supply hundreds of pieces of art that elevate an ‘off-plan’ concept that ensured a magnificent grand opening.

Tala Hammoud Atrouni is a Palestinian artist from Lebanon who was born in Beirut in 1977. As a child, her love for art was expressed shyly. She often found herself busy with colourful crayons and paper. In Beirut, she was exposed to the city’s cosmopolitan society and vibrant culture. This exposure enriched her perspective on life. She grew up admiring her father’s art of calligraphy, poetry, and drawings. Despite the lack of formal art exposure in her high school, her passion for fine art drove her to pursue her education in the field. After high school, in the fall of 1995, she enrolled in the school of fine arts at the Lebanese American University in Beirut. In addition to fine art classes, her dad advised her to enroll in ‘more practical courses in advertising so that she would earn a minor degree in the field and improve her chances of finding a job. She earned her Bachelor degree in July of 1998 with an award of excellence in the art of painting and sculpture.

TALA ATROUNI Painter from Lebanon
REPRESENTING ARTIST The most important and highly celebrated artist of the UAE, Abdul Qader Al Rais, at the age of 14 has done wonders in painting and was well received in Kuwait where he resided as a student. He was awarded first honour as a young artist for his artwork which was inspired by the movie “Agony & the Ecstasy,” and signaled the beginning of his extraordinary life in art. Abdul Qader’s incessant pencil and watercolour sketches clearly defined his role in life as an artist. He was a perfectionist who laboured to get the right colours, studied different techniques and applied that knowledge to successive paintings. Largely self-taught, his interest in old local architecture gems and nature were depicted in romantic realism. His early work explores local scenery, coastlines and idyllic landscape in the UAE. They were essentially realist but it is an extraordinary realism distilled by an exacting eye and a mystical imagination which gives his works much of its power. Not only does he capture the place, but also the sense of time, in a medium that is most expressive, appealing and challenging – watercolour
