Project : Jorge Olivos/ José Tomás Videla Location: Manila / Philippines GeAi arquitectos 2007 The Grove Tower is conceived to provide a comfortable indoor environment using passive means to reduce mechanical means such as air conditioning in at least 35%. The typical floor area of 2,600 m2 is divided in two wings, creating an atrium, just above a ground floor garden, that allows natural daylight go “down” and the indoor air go “up” using the stack effect, improved by the “wing” shape of the building. Plants are also part of the indoor design, moderating the indoor climate, adding shade where needed, and filtering dust. The wings are grouped in a compact shape to protect the building from the strong winds and typhoon effects, that way the atrium became an architectural feature the balance the indoor environment. The façade incorporates shading louvers to diffuse the light, control glare and limit heat gain. The distribution plan and the structural strategy also allow flexible partitions.

Beijing Garden Residences Project coordination: Jorge Aguila Location: Beijing / China AA asociados The buildings are orientated in its lenghtwise North-South, and the distance between them allows that no shadows from other buildings will cover the south faรงade in the winter midday. This south faรงade have a conservatory, improving the heat gains and keeping the house warm in the night. Building main circulation are all across north faรงade, apartments are duplex and they open both sides, allowing cross ventilation an improving the solar entering angle and heat gains of internal mass in winter. The buildings main circulations and the service rooms in houses works as a buffer zone. In the hot seasons of the year the same building external structure protect the apartments from solar direct beam. Crossing natural ventilation is in every apartment to allows the internal structure loose the heat acumulated during the day. I was invited for a closed competition for this proyect.

TVN Regional Headquarters competition. Location chosen: Center. Date November 2007 Complex competiton, looking for a “one-fits-all-climate building, who was supposed to work with minimun building changes in 3 different climates; desertic north, mild center climate, and cold and rainy south. The network looked forward to build a new image on its regional branches, who are today located in rented houses, without any common corporate image. Our proposal ment to work the relationship between the media images and the proximity with the spectators. The main body is wrapped, as the people gets with information. The second body holds the small TV studio, that fits the braodcasting needs.
