MODULE 1
MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT How to measure a Croissant? Firstly, the outline of the croissant was traced, this gives a rough idea of the form of the croissant. Secondly, the outlines were hatched to show the depth and define the form of the croissant.

MODULE 2
NEW MARIO WORLD The making of new Mario world. The mario world given was very cloudy thus it is faithfully recreated in this drawing. The river, as a natural barrier separates the two worlds while the pipes are a joining the above and underground world. Characters were added to interact with the world and make it more lively.

MODULE 2
LINEWORKS This is the combined linework due to the size of the drawing exceeding the given A3 size. Two A3 traces was produced and scanned then put together via illustrator.

MODULE 3
LANDSCAPE OVERVIEW The making of new landscape The new landscape is a product of digital fabrication. From the initial digital model in Rhino to the creation of templates and the physical model. The design approach was to create a faithful representation of the given landscape. The distribution of 3D and 2D panels are decided by the height of the landscape, eg. a hill would have 3D instead of 2D panels.

MODULE 3
CLOSE IN PHOTOGRAPH
The model is first generated in Rhino then created into a templates that is finally laser cut and manually constructed.

MODULE 3
STAGES OF FABRICATION
Rhino Model. This is the digital model as viewed in Rhino.
Prototype. This is the prototype that was produced with standard print paper.
The bend that gives the model a 3 dimensional property is created by utilising the uplifting property of the material. Physical Model Underside. The 3D panels are joint by small tabs which was held in place by clips while glue was setting.
Physical Model Above. The 3 dimensional effect is created by the precise joining of the panels.

MODULE 4
MAPPING THE UNMAPPABLE Trading Cities 5: Esmeralda Through the use of notations, it is possible to map the unmappable. The movement and experience of Marco Polo’s journey through Esmeralda is represented through this isometric view. The notations conveys meanings that is objective and tells the story in a mathematical form that does not open itself to wild imagination.

MODULE 4
PERSPECTIVE ONE
Esmeralda is a city with multiple levels and many paths that intersects. The intersecting paths creates many different routes that zigzags through the city, land and water.

MODULE 4
PERSPECTIVE TWO
This is the dark underground scene of Esmeralda, also scattered with many different routes. This is where shady characters and businesses resides.

REFLECTION
Throughout the semester, I was able to learn and try out the different principles and skills. This is especially true for skills relating to digital fabrication. In M1, I learnt I have learnt how to setup a photo stage and cleaning up photographs for presentation purposes and the importance of the consistency and readability of a presentation. In M2, illustrator was used extensively and the many created objects produced even more complex structure. The importance of organizing the layers and everything that is involved was key. However, there was a lack of emphasis and coherency to the overall construction; especially the underground proportion which lacks justification. M3 was the introduction to Rhino and 3D modelling where many basic concepts were taught and learnt. The availability of digital modelling software allowed extended exploration and insight before the physical construction. Due to a mismanagement of time, the initial photographic documentation of the work was poor. The importance of documentation of progress and final product is emphasised in this module. In M4, we explored how to represent and show story that is interpreted from written story. The limitation of the Old Quad as a frame was challenging, there were very little dimension compared to the scale of the story. Learning from previous modules, every stage and process was organized and every component of the work was justified. After completing the four modules, I have gained a large amount of experience to utilise the tools available. This allows more fluent production of future projects and higher quality as it goes.
