Golden Record

For my project i have been asked to submit visual proposal for a new version of the famous “Golden Record” that is entitled Earth artifact. What is the Golden Record? The Golden record is a phonograph record that was included in the Voyager spacecraft which was lunged out of earth in 1977.

The information in the upper right-hand portion of the cover is designed to show how pictures are to be constructed from the recorded signals. The top drawing shows the typical signal that The golden record contained images and occurs at the start of a picture. The picture is sounds selected to show the diversit of culture made from this signal, which traces the picture and life on the planet Earth, informing anyone as a series of vertical lines, similar to ordinary who finds the record out in space, it could be television (in which the picture is a series of future humans or Aliens. horizontal lines). Mohamed Samir Mohamed Samir is an artist from Dubai. This visual illustration work is based on conceptual design that has different views from the planet earth because its purpose is to make a big shopping campaign from anywhere on earth. This is depicted by the way earth is depicting a big balloon being supported by other orange and green balloons flying, containing water fall, pyramids, sea, volcanos and green mountains. Samir was inspired by their dream of holding the whole earth in their hands “The illustration simplifies our dream of holding the whole earth in our hands”. Samir combined Japanese traditional origami style with soft drawings that look as if they were done in water colour paper.

I think the origami that take a plane shape, portrays “travel” and “journey”. This combination resulted in findings of new icons like the boat, paper kite and paper made clouds. Samir positioned the all the icons in the middle, not of them are spread out and this is because they all are in some way relating, the white bold sub-heading text ‘Clothes’ ‘Electronics’ and more appeals well to the icons and also makes it easier indicating to which icons are only ones organised together. Nick Gentry “His paintings are at once archaeological and haunting... a social art project that turns form and function inside out” - Sydney Edelist, Huffington Post Arts Nick Gentry is an artist from London. He was born on 29th May 1980. He is known for paining, social art and found art. Artists that have work relating to social comment ary are featured in galleries in the USA, UK and other places in throughout the world. His art work is known for his portrait paintings joint with floppy disk and film negative artworks. His art works is

influenced by the development of technology, identity, consumerism in the society. His work involves contributed Artifacts and materials. He reuses personal objects from contributors, these objects were simply going to be thrown away and I think that underlines the need to recycle. He states that through this process the ‘contributor, artist and viewer come closer together’, he wants his art work to hold a close relationship with the viewers and contributors who helped him through his art work because the disks are public donation. The use of Film negative and X-ray work suggests to the viewers that it is emotional

be a personal belonging to someone before they donated to Gentry and it is as if the shared a piece of them to the world. He observes that “today we go to great lengths to create a digital identity in addition to the actual lives we live, with the belief that these online records are only growing in importance and will outlive us Nick Gentry M 2014. M was made in 2014; Gentry made this by using oil paint and computer disks on wood, the computer disks outlines are noticeable and makes the painting look like a collage and to add to this there are disks that have been handwritten on, they look like title of the disks. The disks come in different colours, from black, grey, red and much more but these have been painted over to contrast details on the face. He uses the disk to make un-human like eyes.

Leonardo Ulian Leonardo Ulian was born in 1974, Gorizia, Italy. He now lives and works in London. He recently has a solo show in 2014 called Tesla Remixed, The Flat in Milan, Italy. Ulian is an artist who has many alluring work involving electronic components, copper wire, amplify, am radios, electric wire, speakers, pedal effect, adaptors. Leonardo Ulian work is called Technological mandala 51, it contains electronic components such as copper wire and paper that has been placed on the wood frame. Ulian used components from computer chips, wire

and circuit boards. The electronic components he used variation of colours but the colours that stand out more are blue, orange, green and yellow and this is because they are the components in the work. Ulian organised his work in to take an up a shape inside and outside; he laid out the components in a way to depict a mirror. There is a pattern he follows, each one has a twin in the same place but just on a different side of them, which effectively makes them appearance, like geometric patterns from a far. What is the concept behind Leonardo Ulian’s work? Ulian offers his viewers his interpretation of ‘Mandala’ congregating the

electronic component in his work. As you know ‘Mandala’ is related to the symbols in Hinduism and Buddhism and they represent spiritual and ritual symbol. Why did Ulian want to interpret ‘Mandala’? I think it is because technology components that Ulian used in his work is what we worship today, people are more connected to this type of technology than we are with other things. The Technological mandalas are to show indicate of worship of technology.

Astrogirl is an A3 art poster. It is a collage with several different mediums used. The title of the work elaborates the work. Astrogirl represents the earth grown in technology or alternatively the origins of life. The purpose of its conception is to inform those more about the earth grown. The artist uses minimal colours, they are limited to 7 colours, and this may because each colour represents other planets around earth. They used shapes that could be seen a geometric shapes such as circles and rectangles from big to small that surround the girl and the dog as they do above them. There are also small crosses that are made to look like the stars up above twinkling. I extremely like the way he used more image

to potray the meaning through. The lines that the girl is grabbing on is linked to the circles that stands for planets, above her, the lines resemble strings attached to balloons that are being blown away. They are planets instead of balloons because it is a fiction of her imagine because she wants to be an astronaut travels out of the earth to see the world above. Moreover the background of the design is textured causes the whole other images to stand out, it gives a 60’s graphic design feel, which is also references to the decade that Neil Armstrong became the first man to land on the moon in July the 20th 1969. Since then it became a popular aspiration for many children and even adults.

Mads Peitersen The Anatomy of Technology

Mads Peitersen is a multimedia, Danish artists, who illustrated series of combination relating to anatomical biology with technology. This illustration featured popular electronics that we see in our new generation; Play Station, X-box, Iphone, game controller, camera and more. The illustration are of dissected technology revealing what we can see are human body parts such as the bones and livers etc. Now that is different and crazy look but if we went into depth into thinking what it could be depicting, then I would say this could be the real anatomy of today’s most popular used technology. I say this because I think it is showing how humanity could not live without it and we are getting deeply attached that it could even be seen as addictive. Peitersen stated “The idea is that these gadgets are becoming so advanced and cool today that we almost treat them as if they were

alive. In a way users become attached to them : After you have had your Iphone or your Xbox 360 for a while you slowly begin to see yourself as connected to these brands or gadgets. They almost become an extension of yourself or your hands. It is the feeling that we connect and attach to these machines individually. The metaphor is that a really rather simple and very dead gadget gives people a feeling of being more present, more alive. And they relate in larger degree with these gadgets almost on a par with a pet or a friend!” We have started to see these technologies as one of us. His illustration makes the viewer’s question today’s society and what we do in our spare time. I think that Peitersen work is very clever and creative, in the beginning you are attracted by the colours and also at the bizarre combination but when you take the into trying to figure out why Peitersen did this, it could lead you into thinking.

Michelle Thompson

Michelle Thompson studied illustration in Royal College of Art in 1994 to 1996. Thompson’s work include collage, mark making and photography all beautifully combined. Thompson work grabbed my interest because she uses a range of styles and combines them together as you can see from these pages, my favourite illustration from her is called ‘The Guardian - Athletes Foot’. She used a lot of black and white photo and adds in ranges of colours in interesting way such as the paints that have been added that give the work an interesting effect. The image has an red, green, brown, grey colour scheme. The background looks painted with water colour which is very common in Thompson work. Her work is then processed on Photoshop to enhance them.

The Guardian - Athletes Foot.

I think Thompson was inspired by Robert Rauschenberg works because Rauschenberg made hand made collages using recycled images.

Kacper Kiec

Kacper Kiec is a polish graphic designer and photographer. He mixes his skills when it comes to making these beautiful collages. What drew me to Kacper Kiec collages? It is the way Kiec ignores the rules, there has always been spaces in image and texts but disregard to this took a turn for the good. I think that Kiec collages work explore variety of concepts. His collages make his work an aesthetic success because they are multimedia. He uses digital photo, textured papers, illustrations and print. When I went through his collage work, I was amazed at how stunning he can make paper look in his background and I think his background choices are what make big impact on his viewers. He likes to use old documents or brown paper with some old texts and his subjects will be in black and white or sepia colour which I felt causes his work to look like it is relating to the past history. However those are not the only colours that Kiec uses in his work, as you can see he uses his colour palette effectively in his work, the bright colours shows his viewers an

Heidi Andreasen Heidi Andreasen was born and raised in Faroe Islands. Before Heidi Andreasen became attached to graphic design and illustration, she was a professional swimmer for 14 years but forced to stop at unfortunate serious injury. Art and design was like a ‘plan B’ to her, She gained a degree from one of the most prestigious Arts universities in the world called Central St Martins. Her work is usually made in Adobe Photoshop, a program she started using during her time in London. Page 3 girl This is one of my favourite work from Heidi Andreasen, it’s called Page 3 girl and it was done in October 2012. She used digital manipulation technique in Photoshop to combine it with her collage which was done by hand. She beautifully juxtaposed the digital collage, she said what her collages create on her website: ‘an inner surreal landscape, which unfolds new dream worlds where the rationale

is excluded’. ‘Surreal landscape’ is inspired by an early 20th century Science fiction novels and Dadaist movements. Page 3 girl collage work elaborates a retro style by the quality and colour of the images used. Page 3 girl tells the viewers a Sci-fi story. In my opinion It reminds me of Godzilla, because the size of the girl and another factor is the airplanes coming towards her. And this is what also caused me to fall in love with Heidi Andreasen collages, unlike other collage artists she is not just simply using any images she founds around, but rather she uses images that will depict the novels that inspire her. In her interview she had with Dazel Digital, that was published 19 months ago, she gave examples of stories that inspired a work she did.

‘DD : Your collages seem to tell a lot of stories, can you give an example? Heidi Andreasen: ‘Country of the Blind’ is a narrative project I did in my second year of uni.
It’s based on a short story by H.G.Wells published 1904. A story about a mountain climber who discovers a civilization where everyone is blind and who have developed unique ways of using their other senses. They notice that their new arrival is very different from them and insist that he surgically remove his eyes if he wants to stay in their community.’ Reference: http://old.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/ article/14384/1/rise-heidi-andreasen http://www.mutantspace.com/heidi-andreasencollages-photo-montages/

Zoology Deadliest animals Zoology is the branch of biology relating to animals, they have all sorts of information including habits, classification, structure, embryology, evolution, living and extinct and much more. They have studied animals since the 18th and 19th century when Alexander bin Humboldt was interested investigating their environment and organisms. Their infographics can be reliable because the statics were not randomly composed but studied for decades. Most of these fatality stats in the infographic can be easily found in the Underlying cause of death from 1999 till 2009. I think the fact that this infographic was composed by zoology can make a person almost feel like they are being protected because this infographic was purely not made just because but more of warning; if you know which animals are the most deadliest where you live, you can put a great distance between yourself and them. The deadliest animals in U.S are white tail Deer, horse, wasps(bees,Hornets), dogs, Bulls and cows, spiders, snakes, bears, alligators, sharks, centipedes,Cougars and rats. There is an image for each animal, each accommodated with different coloured rectangles portraying the stats of fatality. I think the soft colours overlaying the images really go well with the animals natural colours. This poster is simple, even so it is successful in getting the message through, they include the significance of stats scale. Countdown to Life This work was posted on the February 11th of 2013 by Yiannis Stathoyiannis on a website called ‘infographicsmania’ and the post was called Life is short. This is information graphic purpose of creation is to inform how long on average people have to live their life. When you read the title header, ‘Countdown of Life, How much time do your really have left’, you automatically get the impression that it is implying that we do not live as long as we think we will and I feel that it is the question that pulls the viewer’s curiosity. From the beginning of the countdown, it implies that we have 78 years to live and that leads to telling us that from all the 78 years, the 9 years left are yours. It also includes calculations on how much hours have been taken up at some stages and the life span left. The illustrations demonstrate activities in each countdown. Blue and red are primarily used for title and illustrations and I think that both of these colours have a purpose in portraying countdown and life. Red has been used on parts that are relating to life, for example the start road diagram and text saying ‘Life remaining’ and while blue is used on texts and number charts which all explain the amount you have left and why. However at the end there are paragraphs not relating to countdown but more of encouragements saying stuff as to enjoy our life to the fullest. The reason it is at the very end is because they wanted us to digest the countdowns of our usual lifestyle first. I chose to include this work in my research because I think that it is a good design method, especially when you want to explain the human lifespan and it also relates to a work I previously researched called ‘Life map to Quarter-Life crisis’. There is even a very famous quote from Abraham Lincoln, ‘It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years’; I think that explains the whole work. Thomas Wilder Thomas wilder is from Brooklyn, New York City. He is a art director, graphic designer and illustrator, he works in a studio called MGMT. He created these successful, stunning information graphic posters relating to animals. It was published on February 22nd of 2013. It’s called animals loose. The creation of these posters was inspired by a recent story involving a dolphin that was discovered in the New York channel. The posters include relevant details such a “wanted” poster would, the location, where they was spotted and captured, description and story; on top left of the posters is their names. I do not think these stories are one hundred percent true, you have a lot of mysteries attached to them. However this is not a necessary a bad choice, it makes them worthwhile reading more. He made a lot of compound paths and offset paths in order to I didn’t think geometric shapes could make things realistic, I like the way the illustrated the animals in this style, mainly before it is different and even looks 3D.

Animal loose

it is different and even looks 3D. The Geometric shapes like triangle, rectangles and circle are all individual filled shapes that were aligned up together in a way to resemble each animal. This design technique resembles ‘Magic animal world, geometric flat’ by a graphic designer and illustrator called Oleg beresnev. The background colours are strong and bright, this causes the poster to attract the younger viewers based on the stories and it also makes the infographic look fun other than serious. Oleg Beresney Magic animal world by Oleg Beresney. These illustrations are outstanding, defiantly a work I could take pointers from. Beresnev is a new graphic designer and illustrator “I’m trying to find develop new ways to go in graphic design”, so he designed series of illustration in a geometric flat style which a fresh and unusually unique. Geometric flat style has become increasingly popular lately and many people are trying to fill in the gaps but many also have the same taste of style, I found Beresnev work was fresh and beautiful because is it very different from what I usually see. He stated that the style was based on simple shapes and the colours contributes ‘This style is based on distribution of propositions of simplified geometric shapes and on emphasising this shapes with colour’. I think that the tone of the colours clearly important in the whole illustrations because the tones provides an understanding of what each illustration is depicting. He illustrated animals, flowers, branches, and trees all relating to Birds, savanna, forest and sea. I feel as if Beresnev work is very inspiring, considering the fact that his style technique is simple but yet impacting and I also like to interpret it in my own sense of style.

Shane Zhong Shane Zong is from Chine but currently living in London, he is an illustration interactive and motion designer. These illustrations he produced are regard the issue of technology addiction and the successive subculture of urban hermits in China who have seem to constantly rely everything on technology which caused them to suffer from a disorder called ‘idisorder’. ‘Idisorder’ is when you have an obsession with technology. ‘Idisorder’ is not actually yet accepted as a true disorder but it has been acknowledged, thanks to Dr. Larry D. Rosen who wrote a book regarding the disorder. His book is called ‘iDisorder: understanding our obsession with Technology and overcoming its hold on us’, published on 1st of August 2013. He went into detail about what the disorder is, why so many of us suffering and how we can overcome our addiction in an increasingly technological world. It seems as Shane Zhong also believes this new regarded disorder is a serious issue but produces illustrations which can explain for themselves rather than a book. I personally feel that if an image is very clear in conveying their message through then there is no need for many texts. It is understanding that the viewers may get different messages because of lack of text attached, however one of the certain messages they should be able to receive is that technology such as our mobile phones, iPad’s and computers are constantly there, never absence, which says just exactly how long we spend in these activities. In the images there are patterns, where a person or people will be looking at their phones or laptops and the light is reflecting on their faces. Another pattern is the colour choice, baby orange, baby blue and black have been mainly used and I think they can successfully grab a viewer’s attention. On Shane Zhong’s behance gallery page there are texts under each illustration and they explain they cause, which are procrastination, narcissism, physical presence and mental absence, packed passengers in subways, use our phones before sleeping, empathic impairment and lastly to look up fragmented information on devices instead of using newspapers.

Shane Zhong illustrations are meant to cause the viewer’s reflect on their behaviours, it aims to trigger reflection on our addiction and our habit of relying so much on technology, ‘The illustrations reflect the phenomenon and their behaviours; the application aims to trigger reflection in urban hermits on their over reliance on technology by providing both individual moderation as well as a co-moderating method. It challenges the conventional notion of “connect together” with a notion of “disconnect together”. Yukai Du Way-out-ll Way Out is an animation made on September 2014, illustration was by Yukai Du and music and sound design by Angus MacRae. Yukai Du is an animator from Graungzhou, China but is currently living in London, England. A book called ‘Alone together’ by Sherry Turkle inspired this animation. The book is about technology, specifically Internet ‘thirty years ago we asked what we would use computers for. Now the question is what we don’t use them for’, we use Internet for everything now, it is like a battle between reality and virtual life. Sherry Turkle is also an author I already took Internet in my research, her book explain what I wanted to express in one of my ideas relating to “technology”. The animation is explaining our lifestyle in a generation where technology subconsciously became an extension to us. The animation begins with passengers scanning through their phone whilst waiting for the bus, inside the bus you have more people concentrating on their phone only, further into a different scenes and locations. Other scenes were of a date in a restaurant, living room with family members and much more but they all had one thing in common which was people always on their phones and the clicking and scrolling sound was heard in each scene. The sounds started to slowly get more extreme and aggressive and continued when everyone was stranding closely together, clicking quickly through their phones in a fast manner and then every single source from their phone formed into a ‘monster’ that captured and contained the people in very phone they seem to have trusted so much, looking for a way out. The people didn’t express emotions and which made them look cold and non-interactive, as if the virtual media is the only importance and I think it explains our obsession with this technology. Then at the end, we seen mark and consequence where they was contained in the phones and nothing could be done; it Is like we cannot beat technology nor escape it.

Initially I felt that the illustration of was way to extreme and busy to the eye, everything around always took the same grain texture and style as the people but gradually through the video, I started to think how it suited the story and sound. The grain texture is as if your old TV has been turned on. Reference: https://www.behance.net/gallery/21999873/WayOut-II-(full-version http://www.yukaidu.com/Way-Out-Animation

Nokia 7500 prism This weekend I went into city centre to look for a new phone for my mother and whilst we were inspecting phones around Carphone Warehouse, I came across a mobile called Nokia 7500 Prism. Nokia 7500 Prism previews vibrant green coloured triangular shapes when you switched on the phone, and these shapes was triangular prism can be seen as traditional geometrical shapes. Prism is a transparent optical element with flat surfaces that divert light. I found it inspirational, I like the way it had so much tones and shades this caused it has a virtual effect to it. I would like to interpret this style in my experiments; I think I could benefit from this style relating to one of my ideas.

Top 10 Most Dangerous Animals My top 10 most dangerous animals idea is aiming to become a book filled with illustrations of different animals and each with their own details such as height, weight, life span, diet and information on what they eat and how they right and why they would be a threat. My book would of aimed on stating what type of dangerous animals resided on earth.

Top 10 Most Dangerous Animals Experiments

Life span map Second Idea Life expectancy is a statistical measure of how long a person may live, based on years, their birth, current age and other demographic factors including genders. I think that our life span has routine, the specific things we are expected to follow in footsteps. I wanted to draw a map explaining these footsteps.

Planning Life span order • Birth - first tooth, potty training, crawling, first word, first footsteps. • Nursery hand awkwardness.

paintings,

ABCD,

• First day in school - Meeting you best friends, learning to read, learning timetable, basic science, swimming lessons, riding a bike for the first time, halloween. • Highschool - Awkwardness, puberty, new best friend, crushes, first girlfrined. • College - driving lessons, 18th birthday. • University - declared degree, serious relationship, allnighters, responsibilities, independance. • Job - Lonliness, marriage, children. • Retirement - grandchildren, travel. • Old age - funerals, death.

Life span map Experiments

These are my experiments mostly done on illustrations. However i used photoshop for third experiments to manipulate circle into looking like stars. I used the illustration pen create my shapes such as the ‘heart beat’ and earth . I experimented with different style of text and background. Initially I liked my first experiments but am leaning into this design because it looks more presentable. However i think it needs more developing.I feel that it would look humounious with some incons on stages instead of words. I also want to try and changing the technique of illustration out my work and the reason for that being is because there are artist from my research like Oleg Beresney and Thomas Wilder and it also resides on the opening of the Nokia 7500 prism phone. Oleg Beresney and Thomas wilder designed series of illustration in a geometric flat style which a fresh and unusually unique. Geometric flat style.

Geometric flat style influenced my work greatly, from nokia 7500 prism opening to Oleg Beresney and Thomas Wilder. I loving how so much different it looks from previous work. It is more visually appealing. I want to try and test out what type of look I could get if I included icons. Rather than having so much text explaining the stages, I have some icons.

Technology Throughout history, developments in technology and communications have gone hand-in-hand, and the latest technological developments such as the Internet and mobile devices have resulted in the advancement of the science of communication to a new level. The process of human communication has evolved over the years, with many path-breaking inventions and discoveries heralding revolutions or a lift from one level to another. In the beginning the invention of new gadgets such as mobile phones made communication easier by allowing people to communicate from anywhere. An underestimated impact of mobile gadgets is the effect they have on the nature of communication. Referenced from Bright Hub Project Management, written by N Nayab on 10/24/2014. The environmental is impacted by the way our addiction, it is taking over humanity, despite the fact of these electronics devices are stimulating and necessary, to have them is a high cost to our planet. Do you know the amount resources? Moreover the millions of devices that are being placed over and over again which makes it an enormous amount of resource being use every day. They also physically ruin our planet, for example not every electronic is recycled properly, the raw materials that are inside them such as the leech toxic chemicals goes into the ground spoiling both our the planets water and food supply. Global warming is already affecting our live but so is technology.

Technology Youtuber Prince Ea The video I came across last year called ‘Can we auto-correct humanity?’ that lead me to realise the irony in our eventful technology. A youtuber and artist called Prince Ea, he speaks about how humanity has took a turn because of our technology. He put the reason why the video was made on the video description ‘Why I refuse to let technology control me. You need not delete your social networks or destroy your cell phones, the message is simple, be balanced, be mindful, be present, be here. :)’. Prince Ea said many things that caused me Goosebumps because there were things that I can relate to and am sure many from the over 11 million viewers can too. ‘Kind of ironic aint it, how these touch screens can make us lose touch’ ‘I asked a friend the other day lets meet up face to face, they said alright, what time ya wanna skype? I responded with OMG Srs with a bunch of SMH’s and I realised what about me… do I not have the patient to have a conversation without abbreviation this is the generation of media overstimulation’ Have we ever stopped and thought about the irony in technology? The fact that we became addicted to electronics and it lead to affecting our lives and environment. Communication over the years has became shorter and succinct. I know that technology help spread he next of communication for example you can track your old friends now and even talk to a family member who is not in the same country as you on the other hand technology has made us more selfish and conceited, is it because the ‘ipads’ ‘ipod’ ‘iphones’ so many I’s but yet not enough We’s and Us’s. Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRl8EIhrQjQ

Technology Materials I smashed one of my old memory sticks with a hammer because I think the mother drive could be useful in terms of relating to technology taking over humanity because the mother drive is what controls the technology and in the end us. I put in my old college ID because of the ID icon on the bottom. However I did not use this because I felt that the mother drive was enough.

Iphone Screen shot could be used to overlay an icon or electronic on Photoshop for skin, I think that Iphone’s are the most popular mobile phones in today society and they play a big part in the reason humans are losing touch with everybody and the world itself.

My new purple camera.

My Laptop keyboard.

Screen shot from my phone.

Technology Illustration process As you can see initially I begun designing technology icons. I used illustration Adobe pen to i draw out each icons vector. I think that illustration icons with realistic HD image such as my camera could be combined however, I think that the work was too busy. I decided to remove some of the icons. It looked as if the whole world was revolved around the vector icons rather than technology itself. Camera was edited on Photoshop to darken and contrast.

Technology Photoshop &Illustration I moved on experimenting on to Photoshop. I really liked the way this has been arranged, and can’t wait to continue in developing it. I will work on my background, colours and putting in more images because I think this could come out nicely. I designed a Circuit board on illustration, simple colour blue and red, I think these colours in comparison will enlighten my work. I didn’t want to add anymore colour because I felt that it looks good. These two designs will be combined together for more experimentation.

Circuit board

Technology Experiments I imported the circuit board into my Photoshop work to see what type of style combination it could come to be and I was happy that the colour choice and how the circuit board was the undertone background for he icons as if they share one circuit board. Inputting the keyboard was a great choice, at first i was contemplating but when I accidentally changed the colour I think it made my work look more attractive. Kacper Kiec is influential. As you can see the eplispe circle was an influence from Kacper Kiec work and the way i positioned my icons and technology collage on top of the illustrated mountains.A little bit of pencil work could make a big change in the background.

I was extremely interested in collages for my

technology idea. This is because I think it would be fun to layout primary materials with virtual materials i designed on illustration. The layout will play a significant role in my idea because the way I will arrange my icons and technology will need to convey the message in an easy way and look appealing to attract interest. I am looking to enhance the look of my work but also the meaning. While I was working on my research’s, I came across stunning collage work from artists such as Kacper Kiec, Heidi Andreasen and Michelle Thomson. They each have different style when it comes to collage, you can see that some of them are more interested in texture materials while others are in photographs and illustration. They all played part inspiring me. You can see their

work’s reflecting on my designs such as the colours and the composition of my collages.

Technology Second hand market

A Trip to the Second hand market I passed by Huddersfield second hand market on my way to tesco because I heard the things people sell their a very cheap. Whilst I was looking around I came upon booth with old small photographs in a box, they were costing around between 25p to 80p. You could tell these photographs were old because of the sepia colour it took. The reason why they caught my attention is because despite the fact of them being old, I found them appealing and wondered which one of my idea I could possibly use them on and i also wanted to add them onto my primary research. At that time technology idea came into my thoughts since that I was fascinated in designing a collage.

Experiments I imported the old sepia photographs I bought for 25 to 40p from second hand market in Huddersfield. I placed the mountain I drew in pen over the mountain photographs which gave a really nice effect, as if it was portraying a real world behind all the technology and virtual world. I played around with the hue , saturation and contrast to enhance the photographs. Finally I edited the photograph of the two women by cutting of half of the image of and contrasting to black and white to get rid of

the camera layer and placed the copy of the woman on the left head, so i could see how small i would of to resize it. This idea was actually influenced by Mad’s Peitersan, his work explained how technology is becoming an extension to us.

I played around with different colours and also read properly through my work and corrected my title. due to error in the grammar. As you can see I put ‘an’ when it was not needed.

‘

I

refined my experiments, excluded the; x’ that would be on top and added a background texture which was from my photo scanning. I also drastically changed the center of the design, rather than an empty one, I have filled in with a design known as mother drive pattern gown straight down the end of the design. The mother drive pattern looks like it connects to my previous one. These mother drives could be the guide for the information graphic. Information such as the time we spend on the computer, phones and ipods and more and includinfg the stastics which will make my information reliable. I am interested in creating a an information graphic rather than a simple poster explaining our problems in todays society, i will be showing with clear evidence. Further more I have experimented with title, headlines more, initially I was struggling trying to composite them in an area where they would not overtake the design but also be present in clear view. I am aiming to get an appealing eye catching background the way design elements, look like, so I experimented with a different color and shade; ranging from vibrant gray mixed with pink to dark green brown with also pink and lastly to a creamy orange color. I like prefer the light orange because the texture in the background is can be seen.

Developments

‘

These are my developments, I am happy with the outcomes and love the fact that so many facts are around the background. I noticed that many infographics are laid out in a long rectangle giving it long look, and because I wanted to add many intriguing information I have came by in relation to technology, I modified the size of the layer entirely to height, near A3 size and the width the A4 size. Initially experimented with many different fonts and mixed them all together as you can see on the second image and i did this because i wanted a different bold font to depict the shocking facts. However i learned that its is best to keep fonts the same style as i did on my third design which is to the left. The black cirles with texts overlayed on them represents the information in a bold way as it is the most important information. Everything was processed on photoshop, i only used illustration on the mother drive and technology illustrations for the icons. The only problem I had when developing are the bottom section where my sources would have to go. As the first image you can see looks squished because the text and images will decrease to a smaller size when uploading more. I feel like the third image has a really a nice effect to it because the sources look as if the links are meant to be there, it mixed well with the mother drive. I am happy with my outcome, the only thing i would change is to less information for the sources would be smaller than this and because the layout gets bigger than the texts becomes smaller which is diffificult to read just like the first development.
