City in Flux. My final idea was on urban fashion based in Leeds. Fashion and music go together, so I was extremely interested in the relationship between two. Urban music is a big part of urban culture, which is why the music massively influences urban fashion. I took photographs of people with this particular fashion style in mind whilst in Leeds with the urban areas being the location.

One of my much-loved pages from my own magazine I have is a great example of urban wear; the main reason it’s one of my favourites is because I used typography to coinside with the geometric shapes. The design splits the visual space vertically down the centre of the composition which makes it seem like a mirror image that joins to form a circle.

The way I designed some of my pages was a reflection of an artist called Lauren Goodwin who was a strong inspiration; she designed three great examples of dynamic forces of a rectangle utilizing point; lines, shapes and typography. I loved the variety of the different tones she

Initially i found this brief very difficult at first because i usually design with a target audicnce in mind, however there was none in particular. But as time progressed i found myself getting the hand of it. I wish i had done more experimentations with paper, however i still could not find

the right place to print with the typical magazine paper texture. With saying that i am still happy with my outcome and would not change the design, i think the pages match well.

Earth Artifact. For eath artifact we was required to submit a creative proposal through a finished design for new version of the famous ‘Golden record’ and it could be contemporary version reflecting on the content i have chosen. There was three ideas i decided to takeinto experimenation, dangerous animals, human life span and technology. Dangerous animals was going to be a information graphic about the animals you should avoid and why, in my experimentation i added in detailed information about where they come from, what they eat, what they look like and lastly why they are dangerous. For my human life span, it was about our life map, the

will have to do or will do. From birth to Funeral. Lastly technology was going to be discarded because i did not know how to take it further, i thought a poster would be fine ‘warning’ people that technology is dangerous however the information was lacking and so the visual side. I decided not to give up on it the end and of to change it into a info graphic, i collected statistic inform people that technology is controlling us without even realising it and i thought it would be nice to design this because it is something i have experienced myself.

I have experimented with title, headlines more, initially I was struggling trying to composite them in an area where they would not overtake the design but also be present in clear view. MY goal was to try and get a texturised background. I experimented wih the with the scanner and used the photocopy image and duplicated the areas ardoun my background. I was extremly happy with my final outcome and would not change Page 7

anything except how i positioned the sources link, i could not remove them because i needed them and also keeping it caused me to my file to englarge which made the font look small.

Korean Characters. inspired

I created my own typeface inspired by korean characters. I was given a task to create our own typeface inspired from anything. I chose chocolate swirl wrapper, josef muffer brockmann, Milton Glaser, tom and jerry the looney toons and more. The When i drew out this typeface it looked great and it had character, so i became my favourite.

I am pleased with my design, i enjoyed overall making it form into a real alphabet and i wish to

In the beginning we had to draw our typefaces with the five letters ‘ANESG’, After i drew 9 typefaces with my penic, i was adviced to use illustration in order to create chosen font. I scanned in the typeface in order to process it on illustration. I experimented with different colours too which i also like, although they are experiments not my final outcome.

MORDERNISM Modernism existed from 1900 to 1930, it did not last long however many are still influenced till this day, although it has been more than 60 years. What is modernism? Modernism is a philosophical movement that emerged at the end of the 19th century into the beginning of the 20th century, the tradition began to change. Western designers and artists felt a necessity to produce a new kind style in the industry, in order to reflect the changes taking place such as innovation technologies, science and philosophy. Western society was responsible of the changes taking place because they wanted to develop new ways to form the human culture and improve the constructed environment. This new style that the designers and artists took up were on the way to influencing literature, music and architecture and because technology was advancing it caused artists to come up with new techniques and strategy and this also influenced the designers of today’s society. The reason modernism was so popular by those involved in creation and activities, is because many felt that traditional forms of art, architecture, literature, religion faith, philosophy, social organization, activities of daily life, and even the science, were becoming outdated and did not fit in with the new Era. The transformation to modernism emerged new ideas in all area and it reflected a new mood which was more appropriate to the modern life they had.

The artists were curious and begun to associate with so many isms. Isms like fauvism, expressionism, cubism, futurism, dada, constructivism, secessionism and surrealism. They did not want to be left behind all of the theatrical and technology advancing, so they challenged all of the rules. They started to explore different art visual language that could be used to appropriately represent the new follows. In this period people were expressing their feelings and ideas rather than representing what is real, this was one of the things that provoked post-modernism which will spoke about more in the research. The artists and designers were insisting to follow the no ‘style’, by no ‘style’ is the style that they was going by with, and this was because modernism was more than a style, it was all about the world being viewed differently, a new perspective. So in order for the audience to understand the artists and designers intention it would take a good observation and concentration before judging their work.

POST MODERNISM Post-modernism emerged in the late 20thcentury. The term carried many descriptions in various fields, from religion beliefs to dissatisfaction with modern architecture since 1914 to 1971. Since it appeared in wide areas of studies, it became hard to define the concept. An easier for people to define the concept is to think about modernism, as if it was the opposite reflection. Postmodernism is also described as an era that that challenged and rejected modernism in various fields. Originally it was a response to modernism; the post-modern artists used the modernist styles against them as an insult and contradiction. The post-moderns artists did everything that was against the statement made in modernism. The idea behind post-modernism

retro, techno, beach, parody, grunge and pastiche.

Postmodernism didn’t have a big impact on the graphic designers until the 1980s, because in the beginning many designers thought it was just an undisciplined act for one’s own pleasure. But In fact it instigated a new way of think about design. The younger generation of designers began to realize that they were not keen in hiding behind “problem solving”. They simply acknowledged a new development in the culture, one that could have political or ideological agendas. There is not actual right definition of postmodernism but there are obvious features, one of them is the erasing of borders between high culture and pop culture. A feature of postmodern graphic design were all the noticeable trends including punk,

MY MANIFESTO A manifesto means a published written statement that will describe the policies, intentions, opinions and goals of a person, group, government or political party. The world manifesto comes from the Latin manifestus, manus means hand and festus to thrust; it means to make it plain, display, noticeable, not hidden and to easily understand. In relation to art, it would mean a public declaration of motives, intentions or views from an the artist or artistic movement, such as various movements in modernism; manifestos featured in various movements in the modernist avant-garde. A manifesto’s form and structure; the aim is to write and give a visual form of a well thought personal opinions about some issues, for example some issue’s in graphic design. Your opinion should be between theory and practice. It should be short texts, evidence is not too important.

Research - Research is important, especially to graphic designers. We should always research before starting, this could open more doors to inspirations, other designers experiences and what has already been done. When i have done your research, i can always go back to it. Always be organised - Being organised can help getting things done faster. This approach can save up time. Recording deadlines and teaching sessions. A target list that will need to done every week. Pushing limits - Even when it looks complete, try different solutions. A work is finished when nothing more needs to be added. Rechecking - Double check your work for mistakes my may have done and this includes grammar and mistakes i may have done in my design e.g. wide tracking on text or design of page layout. Reflection and analyse - Reflection is the key to constructively think about my work, to bring in ways to improve them.
