Kidz Bop

A Review by Emily Ham

Year after year, modern pop songs continue to have a sense of vulgarity to them. I don't know about you but if I had children, I would so much rather them sing edited and clean versions of these songs. That way, they won't learn about something of adult content at too young of an age. Kids Bop has been doing this for years. Since 2000, they have ut out numerous albums of kidz singing edited versions of popular pop, pop punk, radio rock, etc. songs. They are just music to my ears. I almost prefer them to the actual versions. Let's take a look at some of the albums and individual tracks.

The first Kidz Bop album was released in 2000 and it has some absolute classics. From "All Star" by Smash Mouth to "Summer Girls" by LFO, you can't get any better than these 90's and 00's classics. It even reached number 76 on the Billboard 200. Wowza. All in all, I'd give this a 6/10 bops.

In 2004, the fifth album was released. I personally enjoy this one because of the female power houses included. I mean, Beyonce, Michelle Branch, Gwen Stefani, and that's only within the first five songs. Finishing off the album with the The Cheetah Girls' cover if i5's song "Cinderella" was a bold move, but ultimately one in the right direction, hitting 34 on the Billboard 200. I'm amazed. 7.4/10 bops.

Now let's skip ahead to Kidz Bop 10. What a game changer. These kidz slowly, but surely kept climbing their way up the ladder to kidz stardom. Their version of "What's Left of Me" by Nick Lachey gets me everytime. I can't believe that these are kidz. I am in awe of their raw talent and potential. Another bop off this album is the unforgettable "Who Says You Can't Go Home" by Bon Jovi. These kidz just tug at my little heart strings with this one. A solid 7.7/10 bops for this 2006 release.

As for the rest of the albums, they get a little more pop influenced and continue. As with anything, the quality also gets a little better. Their best song for the holidays is their version of "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth". That track is an absolute banger. The last one was released in 2017. This year, there is another Kidz Bop Kids concert tour. Now excuse me while I listen to their version of "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne and sing into my hairbrush.
