Oil colors Street painting process: The first one is “Les Ninfee” of Monet. I just inserted it on my area, to see the effect and to think about my street painting work. I wanted to create the illusion of a lake, or a swimming pool in the park. It was the first test. The second one is a mimic of the “Papa Songs” restaurant floor in the movie “Cloud Atlas”. Then, I decided to change the configuration of the Park, because it was too rigid and difficult to integrate with the Street painting. So, I designed a new configuration based on the position of the trees, creating a set of “islands”. The Street painting would create the effect of “floating islands”. The floating islands were inspired on the movie “Castle in the Sky” of Hayau Miyazaki.

Plasticine models + Painting Street painting process: The idea of using oil colors for the Street painting work, was because I needed time to define the painting. I didn’t know how it was going to be exactly, so I needed to make some experiments, some tests and oil colors allowed me to do that because then I could work on the same painting during many days, defining it, let’s say “sculpting it”. In comparison to watercolors which are a fast technique because it gets dry in few minutes Oil colors gets dry in at least three days or even one week, depending to how thick it is. Here I had to plastified the carton and the paper with glue, simulating a canvas to avoid that the Paint becomes dry too fast. Part of my Project included also the sculptural artwork of Giorgio De Chirico “THE MYSTERIOUS BATHS” . To represent the statues of De Chirico I used plasticine models. In this case, color is inherent to the artwork, so I used colored plasticines. I also proposed some other statues as a complement of the ones of De Chirico.

Mock ups Design strategies: Personally, I’m interested in processes and strategies of design and usually, I give more importance to the projects such experiences and less to the results themselves. The project as a result of a process. In this case, I tried to trace my own way by doing the things I love. Painting, making plasticine models, drawing, watching movies, reading, because the love for what I do allows me to not only do a good job but to enjoy every day. It’s the pleasure as a work, done with dedication and discipline. In general, my job is very handcrafted, because I consider that the work on the computer is very limited. For example, when I decided to do a street painting work, I knew I was going to paint. No doubt. Painting and drawing are two opposite processes. When one draw, define shapes with surfaces, with stains, and, by the other hand, when one paint, define shapes through the definition of its contours, of lines. This project has been defined with stains color instead of lines. This wouldn’t be possible with AutoCAD for instance.

Mock ups

HANDWORK SAMPLES Yina Mora Conclusion: In architecture, I learned to make study models and mockups as a design tool. In this case, I chose realistic mockups because they were useful to visualize the project, and to explain my ideas to my Professor, even if realistic models are not academically accepted, but I wanted to do an experimental work. Part of my intent in this project was to take care of the sculptural complex “The Mysterious Baths of Giorgio de Chirico, restoring the statues and inserting them into the temporary park project. The result is a sort of aqua park with valuable statues. At the end, the Temporary Park becomes overcharged, over designed, lush and extravagant, but funny. I chose my Thesis Project in Interior Design to present my handwork, because it is the most complex project in terms of techniques and design resources. Here, I discovered that I also like writing, a lot.
