SIMULACRUMX (PART 2) Ruben Reniers Premiere: 28 September 2016, 7 pm Further performances: 29th, 30th September 2016, 7pm each DOCK 11 Kastanienallee 79 10435 Berlin Karten: 030 - 35120312 ticket@dock11-berlin.de www.dock11-berlin.de www.rubenreniers.com

Choreography: Ruben Reniers Dance: Rebecca Jefferson & Ruben Reniers Performance: Paula Dombrowski Live music & composition: Evelyn Saylor Video & Photo: Philine Sollmann Costume: Karin Rosemann Dramaturgy: Nicole Kohlmann A rubarb dance & art production Supported by the District Office Berlin Pankow. In this interdisciplinary project using dance, spoken word, video and live music, Jean Baudrillard simulation and synthesis theories act as a thematic base. He sees the simulacrum as a detached particle from the signifier, which only simulates a reality, but is no longer identical with the original. Based on this, simulacra are empty remnants of a transformed reality, yet we still perceive them as real signifiers or signs. This also means we can not differentiate them from “true reality”. The choreography attempts to visualise this unsettling perspective wherein the artists as well as the recipients are compelled to question their perceptual habits. Using video projection the various strata of truth become tangible: images composed from light land on both acting (bodies) and non-acting (surrounds) surfaces. This supports a blurring of the borders between bodies and surrounds. The reality of the bodies, taken for granted as a consequence result of their immediacy, becomes ambiguous. SimulacrumX,(Part 2) is the successor of SimulacrumX, which premiered in Turin, Italy (2014) and was selected for the “Best Solo Fördernachswuchs” and winner of the “Audience Award” of the International VI. Solo | Duo Dance Festival NRW (2014). In addition, it was invited to competitions in Budapest (H), Gdansk (PL) and was a finalist at the Euro Scene Leipzig (2015) in the competition “Best German Dance Solo”.

SIMULACRUMX (Part 2) Dance, Video projection and performance. Left: Some photos of one rehearsal and some others of the video we projected. The idea was to have the impressions of the balls moving on the bodies of the dancers. The scene in quite dark illuminated only by this video projection. The result is a very dimmed light scene. The dancers dancing in the darkness and the balls moving at the same time, interacting. The effect is very suggestive and beautiful. This piece integrates two video projections: One on the floor and another one on the back wall. From the point of view of the set up, it was a challenge for us, because of the positioning of the projectors. To have a bigger projection we installed the projector 1 on the wall behind the audience, but the thing was that when we projected on the floor, the video becomes distorted because of the deformation in perspective. Here I made some tests with video mapping softwares to correct the video. We had only two days to solve this problem. That was the time I could test and learn about video-mapping.

Conclusions As a lighting designer I also had to deal with other fields such as sound, interactive and multimedia projects that are beyond my knowledge, but that gave me the possibility to learn new things finding out solutions in different levels. In this specific work I had the chance to experiment with video - mapping, and I learned to program lighting Cues and to run a real show. This was one the works I liked more.

Activities Developed In this dance piece I had the chance to make the set up (general mounting, hanging lamps, managing dimmers, managing channels, etc.) I also could make some proposes for the Light Design; I suggested to use video mapping instead of normal projection to correct the view of the balls, that were distorted by the perspective of the projector. I made some experiments with video - mapping softwares (TABULA FaรงadeSignage) I also made the selection of the lamps and the filters that we used. I programmed the lights Cues using the light board and then I runned the shows by myself. I made the lightplans of this piece for future shows.

Upcoming performance by TEN PEN CHii ART LABOR FOUNDER: YUMIKO YOSHIOKA, ZAM JOHNSON, JOAXHIM MANGER TEN PEN CHii art lab celebrates 20 years of existence with the play “ASO-Bi-Spiel” “TEN the skies, CHi the earth, PEN the change, the last i stands for differently, and when the sky changes, the earth changes, in short,” natural catastrophe “(Japanese) , The dance, the space, the light, the music, is the result of all this: the twitching human flesh, the sounds, the music, the colors drawn by the light, the spatial installations as the framework and the world. And, of course, the power of the images is impressive. TEN PEN CHii does not color the inferno. Rather, the group finds means of expressing the violent relationship between man, man-made nature, and even the same technique. She does not forget that a lot of man-made is shooting about the measure of the initiator. “(Text: Tom Mustroph) Director / Concept / Installation / Lighting: JoaXhim Manger (D) Composition / Music: Zam Johnson (US) Coordination: Yumiko Yoshioka Performance: Natsuko Kono (J), Ichi Go (J), Matilde Javier Ciria (ES), Spiros Paterakis (GR) Video art documentation: Mario Morleo (D / I) Yoann Trellu (F) Graphic design: Ollie Peters (D) Assistance: Tom A-dam (NL), Yukihiro Ikutani (J), Jens Zimmerman (D) Photo: Klaus Rabien Supported by Steierischekulturinitiative, DOCK 11 EDEN *****

Activities Developed In this dance piece I had the chance to collaborate with the set up (general mounting, hanging lamps, managing dimmers, channels, filters, etc.) My collaboration in this project was limited because the company had already defined all their technical details, and light plans from the beggining. It was important to me, because here I learned about multimedia performances. They integrate video and music using one software called “Max. This software can manage several videos simultaneously and can also integrate them with the music, through the ryth. It is quite sofisticated. Here they mixed several videos, overlaping them, using transparencies in real time. It is technically complex. This software allows to change the color of the videos in real time, changing not only the light scene color, but the atmosphere, and the mood. This was quite interesting to me, exploring the possibilities of the multimedia for lighting.

„Grrr, I”m dancing“ - Universe of a dancing bear Show dates in the DOCK 11: Performances: 01 and 02 October 2016, at 7 pm DOCK11, Kastanienallee 79, 10435 Berlin Ticket reservations: ticket@dock11-berlin.de, 030-35120312

“When I was a child, I often imagined I was a big, strong bear. That was my job, too, if I were tall. And what have I become later? A dancing bear. “ The dancer and choreographer Mathis Kleinschnittger contests his new solo evening on exploitation and pleasure. With the help of the figure of the ‘Tanzbären’, he wants to fight against prevailing models of exploitation of the one for the benefit of others. The dance bear himself is the symbolic godfather of this principle - he is an “elaborate” being for amusing others and serves the added value of his “owner”. In the Tanzbär, however, is the bear with its power, its urge for freedom and self-determination. When reactivating these forces, this could be the beginning of an overcoming of external control and suppression. “Grrr, I’m dancing” goes on the search. With repetitive, powerful, entertaining and frightened movement sequences, new images and identities appear, ambivalences become clear and rituals evoke change.

MIRAGE (PREMIERE) a Solo by and with Jennifer Ocampo Monsalve – Colombia What you are it doesn´t belong to this reality, its far and its close, hidden in your nature, like a mirage... Jennifer Ocampo Monsalve belong this time to a self portrait solo where she explores her memories of life . Her landmarks are the references to fold out memories of ancestry through her body. Historical and personal images come to the surface and embody her present. Engraved emotions are part of this path, allowing them to be reborn in her actual being. An encounter with personages, places, wishes and remarkable facts of her life become a narrow band right above the horizon in her Solo. The resonance of a distorted real world creates an underworld almost unrecognizable.
