Acute Medical Unit (AMU) The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) provides high-quality, rapid assessment, close monitoring, and treatment for patients with urgent medical needs. Within 48 hours, consultants will develop and review a care plan together with a team of professionals including nurses, therapists and pharmacists. Once a care plan is in place, you may be transferred to another ward for further treatment if you are required to stay longer than 2 days. If you are assessed to be fit for discharge, you will be given early notice so that you can arrange for your loved ones to fetch you. Before you leave the ward, you will be given: 1. Medications 2. Discharge advice 3. Follow-up appointments
Please clarify with the nurses if you have questions. We have provided a comfortable discharge lounge where you can wait for your loved ones or transport. Please remember to check that you have all your belongings before leaving. Nominating a spokesperson Your care team needs a spokesperson as the single point of contact for updates and discussions of care plans and decisions. Please help us check that we have up-to-date contact details. Your nominated spokesperson is important. He or she is responsible for sharing information with other family members and arranging care resources for your return to home. In some cases, this person may be proxy for your care decisions if you are incapacitated.
