Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery Surgery is available for obese patients who satisfy certain criteria, including patients with metabolic diseases (eg. diabetes) that are not controlled by conventional means. Surgery results in sustained weight loss, and leads to remission or improvement of co-morbidities such as diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Various operations are available that can be tailored to each individual patient. These include: • Sleeve Gastrectomy • Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass • Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion • Adjustable Gastric Bands All of these are performed via laparoscopy (key hole surgery), providing less painful and faster recovery. 95% of our patients stay not more than 2 days after their operation.

Bariatric surgical patients need to make changes to their lifestyle and eating habits. They also require lifelong follow-up with our dedicated team of professionals, which include: • Bariatric Surgeons and Physicians • Bariatric Specialist Nurse Coordinators • Bariatric Dietitians • Physiotherapists Healthy eating and regular exercise are essential to ensure the long term maintenance of weight loss, and remission or improvement of co-morbidities associated with obesity. As part of the KTPH Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery service, the Bariatric Support Group (Singapore Lapbandits) runs once every three months. This is for bariatric surgical patients and their family members, and provides support for those who have had surgery, as well as those who are contemplating surgery.
