EXPLANATIONS General information. Grades of the accidental

On the fingerboard

’Tasto’ in Italian

High up on the fingerboard ’Molto sul tasto’ in Italian

Near the bridge

’Ponticello’ in Italian

On the bridge

’Molto al ponticello’ in Italian

Play a fast vibrato with intense small gestures.

Play hard pressure with a variation in speed. The dynamic should not be affected

Play an open string together with another tone.

Play with the bow on the tail piece (the black wood behind the bridge). Dark and mellow sound.

Gradually from molto vibrato to normal tone.

Play with the bow on the side of the instrument body (on the middle). The dynamic will be soft but it is necessary to play hard to get any sound at all.

A fermata without a specific length. Listen to the electronics.

Let the bow ’jump’ on the string. Play with molto vibrato while playing a glissando. Let the bow ’jump’ on the string with both hair and wood part of the bow.

Play normally with the bow but let both the hair and wood part of the bow touch the string.

Play a glissando between two natural harmonics. There will be no sound in between.

Play with the bow on the side of the instrument body (on the middle) and play at the same time a tone on the fourth string.

Move the bow between different positions on the instrument and play an open string together with a stopped tone. No vibrato.

Tremolo between normal tone and harmonic.

Play behind the bridge with both bow and finger.

Play a gradually transmission from normal pressure to hard pressure and back again.


ELECTRONICS The electronics in Palabra is made in Max/MSP. It can also be done with external effects (EQ, Reverb, Feedback/Distorsion and Harmonizer) controlled by a mixer, or similar. All the electronic is improvised and live. It is reacting on the violin part. In the patch there is a possibility to either play a soundfile or a live sound through the effects and record what you are playing in 3 different versions: - Mix of the soundfile or live sound and the electronics (effects) in stereo - All electronics (effects) separated into 4 channels (Reverb, Feedback, EQ and Harmonizer) - Soundfile or live sound and electronics (effects) in 4 channels (1-2 Sound source and 3-4 Electronics) You can either choose to control everything from the computer or use a midi controller.

To change presets: double click on the box Presets and store.

To play a soundfile through the patch: double click on the box X.player and choose file or folder.

To change midi number for a fader or knob: double click on the box FadersKnobs.
