126th Annual Report 2012-13

The President’s Message Dear Members and Friends, I greet you all with joy and gratitude as we move over from yet another eventful and glorious year for the YMCA. I consider it God’s grace that I could sit in the chair, as the President of the Young Men’s Christian Association Thrissur. Men with a mighty heart and an indomitable spirit gave their all to build a strong foundation to ensure that this organization would stand the test of time. At this time I fondly pay my respects to all the Members of the YMCA who departed from us during this reporting year. As I reach the end of my term as the President of this esteemed organization, I fondly look back at the past one year in office. There have been challenges and there have been opportunities as well. In all, I am extremely thankful to the Lord Almighty for enabling me to face each situation with confidence. The YMCA being one big versatile team with a common mission, I am deeply thankful to the Members of the Board for their support and guidance during the past year. I am also happy that the work of our International Convention and Youth Centre at Kannara is progressing well. I express my profound gratitude to Sri. Jose Chiriankandath, a doyen of one of the most reputed business families of Thrissur and also our member, for sponsoring the main hall at our Convention Centre. The hall shall henceforth be called C.J.Palu Memorial Hall in honour of his late father. During the past year we had initiated many new social projects, importantly the Tribal Education Project and the Education Scholarship Project for Children with HIV/AIDS. I thank the Chairmen and the Members of our different Standing Committees for their enthusiastic efforts in conducting the different programs of our YMCA. I also thank the Chief Guests, guests, participants, volunteers and delegates of our various programs. A special word of thanks goes to the various sponsors and facilitators of our programs. I am also happy to say that this year we have embarked on a new path by strengthening International relations. We hope to develop volunteer and exchange programs with the YMCAs of Germany and the YMCA of Ajman has partnered with us for the Tribal Education Project. In conclusion, let me share a thought with you. The world that we live in has not yet torn down all the narrow walls of segregation. The world that we live in has not yet given meaning and dignity to womanhood. The world that we live in, still ignores the cries of the bonded and oppressed sub-altern. When you are a member of the YMCA you are part of a global family of men, women and children who strive to give meaning to the existence of human beings. We may be an Indian national but we are also global citizens; we may be of a particular religious persuasion but our vision is ecumenical; we may have different ways of life but we are all united in one mission. Thank you all once again. Sd/-

Dr. Justin George
