Our Camp Counsellors are ready & waiting

Our qualified counsellors have a passion for working with children and youth. Their mission is to make camp fun, safe and beneficial for all campers. Each counsellor has training in healthy child development, first aid and CPR certifications and a valid police clearance. In addition, they have completed 32 hours of training in physical literacy, health & safety, program planning for healthy child development, and more. Our Outdoor Camp Counsellors have also completed extensive wilderness training and certification, ensuring all campers enjoy a fun and safe camp experience.

Is your child interested in becoming a camp counsellor or leader one day? Our older campers get to explore and practice leadership skills! We also offer leader in training camps that give campers specific skills to become a camp counsellor.

COMMUNITY LOVE YOUR WEEK August 13 -17

Helping everyday campers become community leaders! During the week of August 13-17 campers will have the opportunity to explore philanthropy and learn the value of getting involved in the community during our Calgary Food Bank drive. Campers will visit local communities to collect donations for the Calgary Inter Faith Food Bank. Over the past 18 years YMCA Calgary has raised over 200,000 lbs of food. Last year campers supported local communities by collecting 10,620 lbs! If you’d like your camper to participate in our Calgary Food Bank drive, register them for an August 13-17 camp. It applies to all Camp YMCA and Camp Riveredge camps.

FAMILY CAMPS

Our Gray Jay site is located two hours north west of Calgary on the east boundary of Banff National Park.

Camp Chief Hector YMCA offers 6-day and weekend camp experiences for the entire family.

This area of Alberta is well known for spectacular views, horseback riding terrain and hiking trails. More rustic and smaller than Camp Chief Hector’s main site, this camp location is often used by our older campers. Campers at this site get to take on more responsibility than at our main site, including: feeding horses, helping with meal preparation and more.

Famlies can choose from a variety of activities to create their own unique outdoor experience, including; horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, high ropes, climbing (on tower), group games and arts and crafts. Each evening will be complete with an optional evening campfire with other camper families. Activities are parent supervised, allowing families to deepen their connections while having fun.

Some camps are start and finish at the Gray Jay site, and some include time at both Camp Chief Hector and Gray Jay.
