The new Seton YMCA will offer a variety of programs and services for all ages and abilities and be a centre of community for southeast communities and beyond.

PLAY A ROLE IN BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES Careers and Volunteers

Working or volunteering at YMCA Calgary takes many different forms, and people looking for ways to give back to their community can usually find a fit at YMCA Calgary. Teach fitness classes, spend time teaching preschool programs or take part in our community outreach programs. We train and develop our leaders so their roles are meaningful, impact-focused and fun!

Aquatic and Fitness Staff and Volunteers

Seton YMCA will be an expansive recreational facility with a large staff and volunteer base. We will require over 100 lifeguards to successfully operate the pools and as many fitness volunteers to lead group fitness classes. As a commitment to developing quality aquatic and fitness staff, YMCA offers both free and discounted training and development opportunities. Start your wellness leadership journey today! Fundraising

No one is turned away at YMCA Calgary due to financial difficulties. YMCA Calgary is a charitable organization. We raise over $1.5 million every year through corporate, individuals and foundations in our community to support children and youth. We also have a subsidy program supporting adults to participate. CALGARY FLAMES YMCA GRADE 6 MEMBERSHIPS

Through the generous support of the Calgary Flames Foundation, YMCA Calgary provides all Calgary grade 6 students with a fullyear membership and special programming for FREE! It is a great way for grade 6 students to be active and practice independence and leadership in a safe and positive place that promotes the Y’s values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring. Grade 6 members have free access to all seven YMCA locations any time throughout their grade 6 year (until August 31). Students can join anytime. Proof of grade is required. The 2018/2019 Grade 6 membership will become active as of August 1st. Bring in your Grade 5 report card or proof of grade and you’re in! Once active, members will have facility access and begin receiving member benefits such as early registration and program discounts (Fall program registration for members begins August 14. Programs fill quickly!).

CHILD MINDING Child Minding is a short-term care service for children ages 6 weeks to 8 years. Parents and guardians can leave children for up to two hours/visit while using YMCA facilities. Pre-booking is required. Hourly fees are listed below. MEMBER

CARING AND QUALIFIED CAREGIVERS AND EDUCATORS. Our caregivers and educators have a passion for caring for kids and helping them learn and grow! We deliver quality care and play-based learning experiences to help children build foundational social and physical literacy skills, as well as a spark for life-long learning.

CHILD MINDING AGE: 6W - 8Y (SHORT-TERM CARE) You'll have peace of mind knowing your child is being well cared for while you work on your health and well-being. YMCA Calgary’s Child Minding service provides short-term care for infants and children. Your child will have engaging learning experiences that make his or her visit to the YMCA as fun and beneficial as yours! Child Minding must be booked in advance. Single or multi-visit cards can be purchased.

Children are lead through the YMCA’s values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. All YMCA caregivers and educators have up-to-date police security clearance, first aid and CPR certification. Our educators also have post-secondary education in Early Childhood Development and are certified by Alberta Human Services.

CHILD CARE AGE:12M - 6Y (FULL-DAY CARE) Set your child up for success in this well-rounded care and learning program. YMCA Calgary’s licensed child care service provides full-day care for children aged 12 months to 6 years. Our child care educators use the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, which aligns with primary school benchmarks and helps children learn and discover through fun activities and creative play. We aim to foster enthusiasm and spark a life-long love of learning in your child.

Children enrolled in our Child Care service receive a free YMCA membership, with all the membership benefits, including; discounted programs, free and discounted admission for guests and more!

FREE Child Minding

Child Minding for infants and toddlers (6 weeks to 35 months) is FREE for YMCA Members

YMCA MULTI-DAY PRESCHOOL AGE: 3Y - 5Y Help your child get a great start in learning! In this program, preschoolers will be introduced to physical activity, literacy, mathematics and science through play-based learning experiences. Your child will have fun in the preschool room participating in story time, art, drama and music activities, and will enjoy lots of active time in YMCA spaces working on gross motor, spatial awareness and movement fundamentals. This fun, multi-day program supports children to build positive relationships and gain confidence with early learning concepts. *Note: Some classes include a weekly YMCA swim lesson with a qualified instructor. Children must be able to use the washroom independently. Please bring a healthy nut-free snack, as well as a swim suit and towel if your child’s program includes a swim lesson. Option A: YMCA Preschool Each class will include time in the preschool and activities in our dryland areas. There is no pool time in this option. Option B: YMCA Preschool – Recreational Swim* One class per week will include a recreational swim. Preschoolers will be carefully supervised by preschool educators and a YMCA lifeguard. Option C: YMCA Preschool – Swim Lesson* One class per week will include a YMCA swim lesson with a qualified instructor. Swim lessons in this class are part of our national YMCA swim program, giving your child time each week to master or progress to the next swim level. * Swim dates and times will be announced during the first week of the program. Please bring a swim suit and towel on your child’s swim day.

L’il Dippers programs introduce preschoolers (and the adults who accompany them) to a wide range of water activities, while setting a foundation for the critical life skill of swimming.

Make lasting connections with your community through fitness and fun. Choose from two different cardio options, then relax with coffee and socialize with other participants!

Take your resistance routine to the next level! With the guidance from an expert instructor, you will learn new techniques and challenge yourself with more advanced exercises using variety of equipment. Participants will build muscle strength, core stability and endurance and enjoy training with others of similar age in this fun and challenging program. Option 1: Cycle & Coffee Easy does it with this gentle, but challenging cycle program. You will start your cycling journey with a safe, low-impact cardio workout on the bike, followed by a gentle stretch following your ride. Looking to advance your lifesaving training? This 20-hour course teaches you the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, giving you the direction on how to safely supervise swimmers in and around the water. To participate, you must be at least 10 years old and have successfully completed the Bronze Star Award, or be 13 years or older and able to swim. This course requires 100 per cent participation for successful completion. A manual is included in the program fee.

Are you ready to take the dive into teaching swimming? Apprentice under the guidance of an experienced, qualified YMCA swim instructor. This course prepares you to be an instructor trainee, so that you can assist in teaching YMCA Li’l Dippers, Learn to Swim, Star, Star Leadership and Adult Programs. You must have completed the YMCA Star 7 to take this program.

This 10-day 80-hour course is the industry standard for outdoor professionals and advanced first aid for remote workers. Many organizations require this certification as part of their job qualifications.
