Am I prepared for my visit to the Y?
Do I have Photo ID? Everyone aged 12 years and over require photo ID to access any YMCA location. To gain access, you need to present your YMCA Membership card or any other form of Photo ID.
(drivers’ license, student or work ID, passport, or your Membership card on the YMCA App.)
Did I bring my own lock? We recommend you lock all personal belongings when you visit the YMCA. Please bring a lock with you to secure your items.
Have you heard of our Swim test policy? When you arrive with your child (13 years and under) to use the pool, your child is required to take a swim test before entering any of our pools. Our new ‘ Test. Mark. Protect. ’ Policy helps determine each participant’s swim level and if a PFD (lifejacket) is required. Each swimmer is then provided an arm band to identify their swim level.
Have I checked the YMCA Calgary App?
Do I need a towel? Towel service available at some YMCA locations. Extra Memberships include unlimited towel service. Daily service: $2/towel Monthly service: $12.50/month

We deliver quality care and play-based learning experiences to help children build foundational social and physical literacy skills, as well as a spark for life-long learning.
CHILD MINDING AGE: 6 WEEKS - 8Y (SHORT-TERM CARE) You'll have peace of mind knowing your child is being well cared for while you work on your health and well-being. YMCA Calgary’s Child Minding service provides short-term care for infants and children. Your child will have engaging learning experiences that make his or her visit to the YMCA as fun and beneficial as yours! Child Minding must be booked in advance. Children are lead through the YMCA’s values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. All YMCA caregivers and educators have an up-to-date police security clearance, first aid and CPR certification. Our educators also have post-secondary education in Early Childhood Development and are certified by Alberta Human Services.
CHILD CARE AGE:12M - 6Y (FULL-DAY CARE) Set your child up for success in this well-rounded care and learning program. YMCA Calgary’s licensed child care service provides full-day care for children aged 12 months to 6 years. Our child care educators use the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, which aligns with primary school benchmarks and helps children learn and discover through fun activities and creative play. We aim to foster enthusiasm and spark a life-long love of learning in your child. * Note: As of Winter/Spring 2019, ALL child care registration is full and waitlists are capped. Any availbilty changes will be communicated on our website.

FREE Child Minding
Child Minding for infants and toddlers (6 weeks to 35 months) is FREE for YMCA Members
YMCA MULTI-DAY PRESCHOOL AGE: 3Y - 5Y Help your child get a great start in learning! In this program, preschoolers will be introduced to physical activity, literacy, mathematics and science through play-based learning experiences. Your child will have fun in the preschool room participating in story time, art, drama and music activities, and will enjoy lots of active time in YMCA spaces working on gross motor, spatial awareness and movement fundamentals. This fun, multi-day program supports children to build positive relationships and gain confidence with early learning concepts. *Note: Some classes include a weekly YMCA swim lesson with a qualified instructor. Children must be able to use the washroom independently. Please bring a healthy nut-free snack, as well as a swim suit and towel if your child’s program includes a swim lesson. Option A: YMCA Preschool Each class will include time in the preschool and activities in our dryland areas. There is no pool time in this option. Option B: YMCA Preschool – Recreational Swim* One class per week will include a recreational swim. Preschoolers will be carefully supervised by preschool educators and a YMCA lifeguard. TEST. MARK. PROTECT. Our new ‘ Test. Mark. Protect. ’ Policy requires all swimmers 13 years and under to take a swim test before entering any of our pools. Our swim test helps determine each participant’s swim level and if a PFD (lifejacket) is required. Each swimmer is then provided an arm band to identify their swim level.

YOUTH INDOOR SOCCER Awesome fact: court handball is the world’s oldest game played with a ball. In this program, you will learn to pass, run, jump and score. This fun sport will help you improve hand-eye coordination, balance, footwork and bilateral body movements. All levels and abilities are welcome. Skills taught will vary between age groups.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP BABYSITTING CERTIFICATION COURSE AGE:11Y - 17Y Learn to take charge and develop a great new skill. You will learn safe practices for working with children, as you develop leadership skills. This Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviors in children to basic first aid, as well as how to conduct yourself professionally as a babysitter. A manual is included in the course fee.
BRONZE CROSS AGE:13Y AND UP Looking to advance your lifesaving training? This 20-hour course teaches you the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, giving you the direction on how to safely supervise swimmers in and around the water. This course covers emergency procedures, injury assessment and spinal injury rescue. Prerequisite: completion of the Bronze Medallion Award. This course requires 100 per cent attendance and participation to complete. Times Offered: April-June, weekends

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD AGE:16Y AND UP
AQUATICS LEADERSHIP BRONZE STAR AGE:10Y AND UP Gain the confidence and skills you need to perform low-risk rescues. Increase your understanding of lifesaving skills and personal water safety while developing individual and group decision-making abilities. This course will also prepare you for the Bronze Medallion course. Before taking Bronze Star, we recommend you complete the Canadian Star Patrol program. Times Offered: April-June, weekends
BRONZE MEDALLION AGE:13Y AND UP
Advance your YMCA aquatic leadership to the ultimate level. This 40-hour program builds on the skills, knowledge and values taught in the lifesaving awards. To participate in this program you must have completed the Bronze Cross Award and standard first aid with CPR level C. This course requires 100 per cent attendance and participation to complete successfully. The manual is included in the course fee. Times Offered: Weekends
NATIONAL LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION AGE:16Y AND UP Continue your certification to be able to work in any pool across Canada. This 4-hour recertification covers all the skills, knowledge and values taught in the National Lifeguard Service pool option course. To enroll in this course, you must hold a National Lifeguard Service card current within the past five years. This course requires 100 per cent participation for successful completion. YMCA ASSISTANT SWIM INSTRUCTOR AGE:11Y AND UP
YMCA PERSONAL TRAINING CERTIFICATION AGE: 16Y AND UP
Are you ready to take the dive into teaching swimming? Apprentice under the guidance of an experienced, qualified YMCA swim instructor. This course prepares you to be an instructor trainee, so that you can assist in teaching YMCA Li’l Dippers, Learn to Swim, Star, Star Leadership and Adult Programs. You must have completed the YMCA Star 7 to take this program.
Work with clients one-on-one after completing this course. The scope of this certification will focus on prescribing exercise for generally healthy populations, with some learning about groups living with chronic illness and/or injuries. The costs include coursework, apprenticeship hours and the practical observation required for certification. Participants should be prepared to do homework alongside the course hours. Prerequisites include having Standard First Aid and a recommended 50 hours or more experience in strength training classes.

FITNESS LEADERSHIP YMCA GROUP CARDIO AGE:16Y AND UP Have you ever wanted to step in and lead the class? If you have ever wanted to instruct choreographed classes such as Hi-Lo or Step, then this course is for you. YMCA leadership courses take you through all of the theoretical and practical information needed to become a YMCA certified Fitness Leader. In this course, you will learn anatomy, physiology, use of music, class components, class safety and exercise design. Through a combination of classroom and studio time, you will learn how to teach and cue to your fellow classmates. In addition, you will be partnered with a current YMCA Cardio Fitness leader for 1-2 hours of weekly apprenticeship. Cost includes all classroom and studio instruction observation time for certification, apprenticeship work (one to two hours per week for a minimum of eight weeks, handouts and self-study assignments, and final evaluation required for certification. Prerequisites include attending 50 hours or more of cardio/choreography fitness classes, and CPR level C at time of certification. You must be 16 years or older at the time of certification. Times Offered: May 29-June 15 / Wed: 6:00pm -10:00pm and Sat: 9:00am - 3:00pm
YMCA OLDER ADULT FITNESS AGE:16Y AND UP Do you have a keen interest in older adult populations or individuals who require a modified program? This progam teaches you to lead group fitness-based activities for older adults and anyone requiring a gentler approach to fitness. You must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of 50 hours experience attending resistance style group fitness classes.
