Get strong Stay strong

January - May 2013 YMCA of Greenville

A Fitter, Stronger You If you’re like many people you are bringing in 2013 with plans for a healthier lifestyle. Let the Y be the first to welcome you to the path to better health. We are here to help you set, meet, and maintain your health and wellness goals. And we’re excited that we now have five YMCA of Greenville locations to help you meet those goals. The Verdae Y is the newest Y in Greenville and its sole mission is to help you get fitter, stronger, and in better health. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Verdae Y, I encourage you to come take a tour and try some of the cardio and strength equipment as well as the professional and personal service that you won’t find anywhere else. The Verdae Y adds even more value to a PATH membership. PATH members have access to all five YMCA of Greenville locations and the GHS Life Center. PATH members receive all of the benefits of being a Y member, such as free Wellness Works coaching, discounts on programs like youth sports, and tuition to Y Camp Greenville. Group exercise classes are a great way to make new friends and find encouragement while working toward new fitness and wellness goals. One of the Y's goals is to provide our members with programs and classes that are cutting edge and effective. One program we’re putting a lot of focus on in 2013 is “functional training.” That’s a rather sterile way of describing high-intensity weight and cardio training. We now have multiple instructors who are certified CrossFit trainers who are leading new and evolving classes such as Beast Mode at all of our Y branches. These classes incorporate weight lifting, challenging body weight workouts, and bursts of cardio training to help you get leaner and stronger. And though it is challenging, you can train hard and rest easy knowing that it is Y trainers that you are working with. At the Y, our trainers’ main focus is you, your health, and your safety. Yours in health, Scot Baddley President and CEO YMCA of Greenville

Children and families who cannot afford to pay full costs deserve the experiences the Y offers as much as those who can. It is through contributions from individuals and companies committed to this community and the values of the YMCA who make it possible for us to provide for scholarships to child care and after school care at our branches, the Judson Community Center, and the Sterling Hope Center. By supporting families in their efforts to be successful, our neighborhoods become safer, healthier, better places to live and work.
