Small group training is becoming a popular activity for both the fitness novice and the experienced athlete alike. Here are five reasons why:

LEAN; Lifelong Essentials for Activity & Nutrition
Lifelong Essentials for Activity & Nutrition (LEAN) supports you in your journey to becoming more active and eating smarter for healthy weight loss. We’ll focus on ways to tip the calorie balance, mindfulness, and positive self-talk.
Classes are group discussion-based with an in-session physical activity component and delivered over 12 weekly, ninety-minute sessions.
The LEAN Program promotes healthy living and chronic disease
prevention and management through weight loss. LEAN curriculum is evidence-informed and aims to create positive changes by promoting participants to become physically active, well-informed shoppers, and knowledgeable decision makers.
LEAN is designed to meet participants where they are at in their wellness journey and set them up for long-term success by developing realistic and sustainable healthy habits.

CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT
LIVESTRONG AT THE Y
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a small-group program developed and established in partnership with the LIVESTRONG Foundation, assists those living with, through, or beyond cancer to strengthen their spirit, mind, and body. Recent research from the Yale Cancer Center and Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Institute confirmed that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participants experience improved fitness and quality of life, as well as significant decreases in cancer-related fatigue.

Rock Steady Boxing
The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation estimates there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. More than 60,000 people get the diagnosis each year. Rock Steady Boxing is the first gym and program in the country dedicated to the fight against Parkinson’s.
Rock Steady Boxing improves the quality of life for people battling Parkinson’s disease. It does this through noncontact, boxing-inspired fitness training. We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life. With this program, you can build impressive power, strength, flexibility, and speed! By exercising with coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.
Classes are on-going and new participants may join at any time.

LY SWIM TEAM
The purpose of YMCA basketball is to teach the basic skills of basketball to first-time players and refine skills for return players.
The focus will be on ball control, shooting techniques, offensive and defensive tactics, rules and regulations of the game, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play for all.
Youth Soccer is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills.
The YMCA fall and spring soccer consists of programs that are progressive programs with age-specific levels.
Every child can play in a safe, exciting, and fun atmosphere.
We encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement.
LY Swim team focuses on the long-term development of successful competitive swimmers, providing stroke instruction and age-appropriate training to allow swimmers to progress to their highest potential. LY is a program of the YMCA of Central Virginia and a member club of USA Swimming and Virginia Swimming. Our coaching staff is experienced and professional, certified by both USA Swimming and the YMCA; you can rest assured that your swimmers are safe and receiving sound instruction to improve their swimming. LY swimmers compete at all levels, from the LAL Championships to the U.S. Olympic Trials and everything in between. LY swimmers learn self-discipline, commitment, delayed gratification, goal-setting, friendly competition, and teamwork.

Home school YMCA Physical Education is a great way to work physical activity, health and wellness, and socialization into your homeschool curriculum.
H.Y.P.E. offers young people ages 5-12 hands-on instruction in health, wellness, and physical education.
Classes are held for two days a week for two hours during the school calendar year. One hour of instruction focuses on health and nutrition, while the other hour is focused on physical education.

Jamerson Family YMCA KidzGym will be sure to keep your family moving. Enjoy the newest interactive games, a climbing wall, inflatables, and activities with friends, all while being cared for by qualified and trained YMCA staff! Children 5-13 years old are welcome in KidzGym. KidzGym is a YMCA of Central Virginia Member Service available at no charge to those with YMCA Family Memberships. KidzGym is available for kids up to 2 hours a day or 8 hours per week.
Crossfit Teens - Based on the principle of mechanics, Consistency, and then Intensity, CrossFit Teens emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence.

KidzGym, located at the Jamerson Family YMCA, is a fun, engaging, and interactive gymnasium where kids can play and get healthy while having fun. Over 5,300 sq feet, KidzGym has a rock climbing wall, interactive gaming center, age-appropriate fitness equipment, inflatable play structures, and scheduled activities for kids and their families.

TEEN CENTER OUTREACH
The Downtown YMCA Teen Center offers a safe, friendly, and casual atmosphere for teens ages 12-18. We provide adult supervision and a fun place to hang out with friends. Our staff builds positive relationships with teens through games, special events, and programs created by teens and YMCA staff.
Swim to Work, and BYMOC (Boys and Young Men of Color) are both initiatives of the YMCA Teen Center focusing on career readiness, selfesteem, character building, and community engagement.

We offer swim classes for infants, children, teenagers, and adults. Choose from weekday, evening, and weekend classes all year long. Morning classes may also be available based on season and interest.

Our instructors can help you overcome apprehension, improve technique, or assist in developing a plan for endurance swimming.

Swim Starters
Develops water enrichment and aquatic readiness in children ages six months to three years. This category focuses on developing swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences. Parents also learn how to supervise children in the water, prevent accidents, and plan for emergencies. Parents will be in the water with their child.
Swim Basics
Develops personal water safety and basic swimming skills in students of all ages. Swimmers develop a higher level of comfort in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety and exit if they fall into a body of water.
Swim Strokes
Introduces and refines stroke technique in older students. After mastering the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and building stroke techniques. They develop skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity. After completion of this level swimmers are often prepared to take on leadership roles, or
PREVENT & PROTECT LIFEGUARD | CPR TRAINING
The YMCA Lifeguard course prepares participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard.
This comprehensive course offers upto-date information on how to guard, anticipate and prevent potential hazards before they occur, and take action to help those in danger when necessary.
Age Requirement:
Those interested must be 16 years old to participate in the training.
This course also includes American Safety and Health Institute:

• ASHI Oxygen Administration when necessary.
We offer CPR/First Aid/Oxygen/AED classes for members and non-members through the American Safety and Health Institute.

We are the only community organization in Lynchburg that offers year-round pool access with four indoor pools, including an aquatics play center for families. You can drop into one of these indoor pools for some lap, family, or recreational swimming.
In addition to indoor pools, we have hot tubs, a sauna, steam rooms, and designated locker rooms for you to enjoy.
Our Masters Swim program is for swimmers who want to improve their stroke technique and work on endurance. Our qualified coach will give you a challenging and beneficial workout for your level of swimming.

We provide programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. We promote our core values of responsibility, respect, honesty, and caring in all that we do. Through donor-supported financial assistance, we ensure our programs and services are available to all in our community. In addition to our annual support campaign, we host several events to raise funds for our scholarship program.

$210,506 in donor-supported financial assistance created a better life for Central Virginia families.
BY THE NUMBERS
$25 a month supports two health seekers on their quest to prevent chronic illnesses such as diabetes, and heart disease, through the L.E.A.N. Program.
$50 provides life-saving swim lessons for one child or one youth sports session, boosting their confidence and selfesteem.
$100 gives two children the opportunity to develop life skills and values that can be used on and off the field through YMCA youth sports programs & activities.
$300 can help save the lives of 4 children while building self-esteem and confidence through 10 weeks of free “safety around water” outreach swim lessons.
$850 gives hope and healing to a local cancer patient through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a 12-week cancer survivorship program dedicated to improving the quality of life of cancer survivors.
$1000 gives ten children the ability to explore their community, stay active, build character, and cultivate
