Allows full use of the Downtown and Dunigan Family YMCAs, including all membership benefits. Members also receive free or reduced pricing on programs.

Participants who enroll in individual YMCA programs (swim lessons, basketball, etc.) without being a Facility Member.

Refund Policy

For YMCA programs, a credit or refund will be given before the first class. Participants have the option of receiving a credit or a cash refund for 80% of their fee. After the first class, refunds and credits are given for medical reasons only. Credits and refunds should be requested at the Member Service Desk or from the program director.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CHILD CARE Parents Night Out

Enjoy a night out and take the worry out of finding a babysitter. Children ages 3 to 12 will participate in fun activities, games, and crafts. A fun snack and drink will be provided. Children must be pottytrained. Children will be separated into age appropriate groups. Space is limited, please register by the Wednesday prior to the event.

Safe Sitter

Would you know what to do if a child was choking while babysitting? Would you know how to call 911 or how to handle a nosebleed? Safe Sitters will learn all these things and more! Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized babysitting preparation program for boys and girls 11-13 years of age. Gift certificates are available for purchase. Students need to bring their own lunch. Manual is included.

School Days Off Program We know that working parents face a dilemma when school is cancelled due to single day holidays, short breaks and inclement weather so we have filled in the gaps with the School Day Off program. We offer supervised games, swim time, open gym, and activities in our youth center for school age children (K-6) from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. Each child should bring a sack lunch, swim suit, and towel daily.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP Academic Enrichment Boy Scout Troop Aquatics

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana hosts programs for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of all ages. Boys can experience a variety of Aquatics, Sports, and Fitness programs offered to fulfill badges, rank achievements, belt loops and pins, but they can also be customized to suit the interests of the group or just for fun. Girl Scout Journey Program

The YMCA has partnered with the Girl Scouts to offer programs that support the Girl Scout Journey Program. For a fee of $7 per scout, we’ll help you Discover, Connect and Take Action through various workshops and classes. Call 426-6210, ext 3316 for more information.

Leadership Development IN IT TO WIN IT

Through a partnership with Youth First, Inc., IN IT TO WIN IT educates 7th & 8th grade students on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The book by Sean Covey is the basis for this free leadership program which introduces youth to the leadership qualities they already possess and how to grow stronger in areas such as time management, prioritizing, goal setting and resisting peer pressure as well as building strong relationships with friends and family. Funding for the IN IT TO WIN IT program is provided by a grant from the Old National Bank Foundation. To register, email Diane Braun at braun@ymcaswin.org.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SWIM, SPORTS, AND PLAY

Competitive Swimming and Sports Riptides Swim Team

On the YMCA swim team, everyone is a champion.

The emphasis is on having fun and doing one’s best.

The team is open to all children ages 6-18. Swimmers must be able to complete 50 meters (2 lengths of the pool) without stopping, have the ability to swim freestyle and backstroke, and complete at least an hour practice. A free trial period is available for those kids who want to try the team for a week.

Riptides Stroke Technique Clinic

This month-long clinic is an excellent introduction to the sport of competitive swimming and is a great lead in for any swimmer wishing to participate with the YMCA Riptides swim team. It’s also a great way for current swim team members to brush up on their skills. Participants will be presented with the four competitive strokes, starts and turns, and introduced to various drills and workouts for each. This class meets 3 days per week.

Let’s play ball! The YMCA Instructional Baseball League is a six week program designed to focus on skill development, rules of baseball, fundamentals and YMCA character values. From the moment your child steps on the field, our program is designed to assist each player with their understanding of the game of baseball, working to assist them with the advancement of their individual skill level, while eventually working up to playing an actual game. Sessions begin with seven practice sessions and then conclude with a three game and practice rotation over a six week time period. Everyone plays!

Youth Fundamentals Basketball League For boys and girls ages 3 to 11 years old, our fundamental youth basketball league is designed to focus on player development through fundamental skill work, sportsmanship and team building concepts every time they take the floor. The league is divided by ages: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-11.

Everyone plays (automatic sub rotation)! Players will receive 8 games, a one-hour instructorled practice session every week, instructor coach, a t-shirt and awards.

So when deciding where your children are going to play basketball this year, don’t just pay to play…play to learn the game at the YMCA----the birthplace of basketball!

This parent participation class introduces beginning tumbling and agility skills. Focus is placed on 5 basic movements (run, jump, throw, catch and climb) to help your child’s overall development. The fun setting gives you the opportunity to interact with your child and become part of their success.

Now that you have mastered the perfect cartwheel and fundamentals on the bars, beam and vault, it is now time to jump onto the next level. FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Youth Cheerleading Cheerleading is now at the Y! Cheerleading offers the opportunity for kids to develop self reliance and self confidence on an individual level while stressing the importance of teamwork within a cheer squad. Cheerleaders will learn basic skills, chants, cheers, jumps and experience the performance aspect of cheerleading at our Youth Fundamental Basketball games. This session will run for 8 weeks.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SPECIAL—”PARENT PALS PROGRAM”

Martial Arts is one of the few “family friendly” sports programs where parents and children (7 yrs +) can participate together. To encourage parent and child participation in our Martial Arts program, our PARENT PALS PROGRAM offers parents the opportunity to have their child attend the session for FREE when they register and pay for the adult class session. This reward program lets our children have fun while learning with mom and/or dad while the parent helps, encourages and supports, not only their own child, but the other students in class.

To participate in the PARENT PAL PROGRAM, both parent and child must register at the front desk (one parent per child). Parent must register as a paying adult for Level 1 or 2 program and child receives any level for free.

Soccer First Kicks Soccer Clinic

Shoot and score with the First Kicks soccer program. This clinic is designed to teach the soccer basics of passing, dribbling, shooting, defense and teamwork in a fun and entertaining instructional class setting. NEW RACE COURSE FOR 2014! The 13.1 mile course will start and finish along the Ohio Riverfront in downtown Evansville. The course emphasizes beautiful views of the city, travels the Greenway, highlights Garvin and Bayard Park, and takes you past some of Evansville’s Historic homes.

FOR HEALTHY LIVING Hydroriders Try our Hydrorider class for a different workout! Hydroriders are user-friendly, in-water cycling bikes that are perfect for any skill level. These biking-in-the-water group classes mix the cardio and lower-body conditioning of spin with the gentle-on-the-joints resistance of the water. The class uses stationary bikes in the pool to place riders in waist-to-chest deep water while pedaling away.

The equipment allows you to adjust resistance generated by paddle wheels.

The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is approximately a 25-hour course which provides participants with the knowledge, skills and training necessary to become a lifeguard.

Community CPR/AED The American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED is a combined CPR and AED program designed specifically for those who do not work in the healthcare field but are occupationally required to, or desire to, have CPR knowledge and skills. Emergency response teams in business and industry, school bus drivers, teachers and child care workers are just a few of the many professions that this training is suited for.

Community First Aid The ASHI Basic First Aid Class will help you to develop basic first aid knowledge, skills and the confidence to respond. This class is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting and is consistent with recommendations of the 2010 National First Aid Science Advisory Board and OSHA’s best practices for first aid training programs in the workplace.

YMCA 15K The second race in the YMCA Series will be held Saturday, September 6th at 7:00 am.

The race will start and finish near the downtown YMCA, using the Pigeon Creek Greenway.

Family Services & Skills Development Community Marriage Builders The YMCA is offering “REVIVE”, a workshop from Community Marriage Builders for distressed couples.

This workshop is designed to give couples immediate skills to start healing their troubled marriage.

Couples will be taught skills to aid them in resolving conflict and communicating effectively.
