BOOKS THAT HAVE MARKED MY LIFE


PRESENTACIÓN

Reading is knowledge, the book is a tool that has allowed human beings to develop their memory capacity and grow intellectually. In the literature there are accounts of the past, thoughts, ideologies, stories and others, which complement one's own knowledge with the knowledge of different authors, with valuable points of view. Here is a series of books, with general descriptions of each one, selected according to the importance it has had for the authors of this booklet.

LA VORÁGINE

 Is a novel written by José Eustacio Rivera in 1924.  It is the most important work of this author.  This novel was written to tell a story of passion and revenge.  It also tells the story of exploitation in the Amazon rainforest.  The novel is told by the main character.  He is a poet who decides to flee with his lover Alicia to Casanare. 3


LA GATA QUE SE FUE PARA EL CIELO

 This novel was written by Elizabeth Coatsworth in 1930.  The story is based on an ancient Buddhist folk tale.  Tells the story of a poor painter and his housekeeper.  A kitten is adopted by the lady.  The painter must create a Buddha painting for the village church.  The kitten wants to be painted in the picture.  But, according to the story buddha does not love cats.  The cat was painted inside the painting.  The priests got mad at the painter.  The cat was received by buddha in heaven. 


LAZARILLO DE TORMES

        

It is an anonymous Spanish novel. This story tells the life of a child. Who was in the service of several masters. The child has a difficult life. But he is very naughty. The blind man is cared for by the child. Had many other cruel masters. When he grew up he was appointed town crier. The maid was married to Lazaro.

CIEN AÑOS DE SOLEDAD

 The novel was written by Gabriel García Marquéz.  The book is considered a masterpiece of literature.  The first edition of the novel was published in Buenos Aires in May 1967.  The book consists of 20 untitled chapters.  The story of the Buendia family, for seven generations, is narrated in this book.  Fiction and reality were fused by the author.  Loneliness is suffered by family members.  A gypsy is the one who predicts the fate of the family and the people. 6


PREGUNTALE A ALICIA

 This work was published in 1971 by an anonymous author.  The book was written like a personal journal.  In this diary the experiences of a teenage girl are narrated.  Alicia was influenced by her friends.  She tries to quit drugs several times.  Alicia dies of an overdose despite her struggle to quit drugs. 7


1984

 The 1984 novel was written by George Owell.  It tells of the way in which a government keeps an eye on its citizens, including their thoughts.  The protagonist of the novel is Winston Smith, who does not agree with the system.  A telescreen is used to see and hear citizens.  Newspapers, radio, movies and television are used to manipulate people.  In the end the party manages to manipulate the minds of the main characters. 8
