There is nothing more beautiful than seeing animals in their natural environment especially in times where humanity cares more about money and fame than our surroundings. I can’t wait to come to this place in winter to see the snow monkeys in the hot baths
WifeInTheWildBlueYonder Checked off another item on my 19 for 2019 list: see a sumo match! This quintessential #Japanese sport is one of the things I knew I had to see while living in Japan. I’m so glad I had the opportunity!

These military brats have come to thrive at Yokota and have proved themselves as valuable contributors within the community.
JANESSA MEDINA
Every military child’s path is different — trails of their life journeys would light up the globe. They’ve traveled cross country, boarded transatlantic flights, changed schools and moved away from friends. But for all the unique paths charted, it’s the common experiences that make them one. An average military family will move six or more times — three times more often than their civilian counterparts. And while each new move brings challenges, those challenges produce some of the most defining characteristics of a military kid: they’re resilient, culturally aware, exhibit exceptional social skills, have an affinity toward service to others and a deep appreciation for family and community.

Flight Safety The Aero Club/Flight Training Center recognizes flight safety as the primary flight objective, and raising the aviation safety bar to a higher level requires a team effort from all aviators flying in and out of Yokota’s airspace. Below is a list of the Aero Club’s practices and procedures: 1. Increase pilot awareness on accident causes. 2. Improve safety culture within the aviation community. 3. Improve pilot training (e.g., weather briefing, equipment, decision-making and human factors). 4. Improve the quality and substance of weather briefs. 5. Enhance the flight review and/or instrument competency check. 6. Develop and distribute mountain flying technique advisory material. 7. Eliminate the pressure to complete a flight when continuing may compromise safety. 8. Strive to ensure aviation activities operate as safely as possible. This means flying with airworthy aircraft operated by competent airmen after good flight preparation. 9. Comply with all applicable regulations and limit the risks inherent in flying as much as possible. Aero Club’s ultimate goal is zero accidents. To create an environment in which safety is second nature and top priority, Aero Club encourages all customers, members and staff to constantly increase their knowledge on safe aviation no matter their skill level or experience.

CLASS Spotlight Yokota Dance Angels
Yoshie Kawaguchi’s dance history is impressive. She didn’t start dancing until she was 21, but her late start didn’t stop her from doing great things. Within just a few years, she landed a job as a dancer at Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea and went on to perform and choreograph for major Japanese commercials and TV programs including NHK Good Morning Japan. Through her dance program, Yokota Dance Angels, Yoshie hopes to provide Yokota’s youth with the opportunities that opened up for her through dance. Every year, a handful of Yokota Dance Angels’ interested students audition for large Japanese companies like Sony and NHK (a popular TV channel in Japan), and one of her students was one of the lucky five to perform for NHK’s English version of the popular Japanese song, “Paprika.” The dance aired on TV and has over 3.9 million views on YouTube. Through the annual Yokota Dance Angels show at Yokota and other local performances, Yoshie makes sure all of her young dancers get the chance to perform. But the real beauty of Yokota Dance Angels is the students’ broad range of experience. Her typical class includes dancers of various ages, skill levels and genders. They walk into class wearing anything and everything from dresses and sweaters to sweatpants and jeans. After warming up, students take turns showing off choreographed moves to popular songs as Yoshie watches with a proud smile. The young dancers’ moves are minute, rapid and animated, but Yoshie ensures that students of all levels can successfully complete a dance by considering each students’ dance ability when choreographing their assigned dances. The last segment of class is spent teaching the entire group of students a new dance.
