MSGT NATHANIEL INWOOD
FSD
MSgt Inwood’s service at Yokota Air Base is pivotal for our community. As a Development Advisor (formerly titled Career Assistance Advisor and Airmen Development Advisor), our enlisted personnel are steered by his guidance onto the correct career path. MSgt Inwood oversees several notable programs here, stating: “My job has a wide range of responsibilities. I am responsible for all of the professional development seminars on base to include JBAPES, NCOPES and SNCOPES. I am also one of the chairmen for the newly formed Yokota Professional Development Council and Yokota University. Additionally, I am responsible for the First Term Airman Course. Finally, I am responsible with helping members navigate through their careers, whether that be retraining, commissioning, special duties or transitioning to the Guard or Reserves.”
Operating a program of that size is no small feat, but MSgt Inwood tackles a little bit of everything to get the job done.
When asked what his day-to-day looks like, it’s clear that he’s a jack of all trades. “It varies depending on what is going on that week. Sometimes I am in the classroom teaching courses, sometimes I’m doing one on one counseling sessions and other times I coordinate events around base,” he shares.
MSgt Inwood has been active duty for 14 years, but he’s been a part of the military for much longer than that. “I joined because I wanted to provide stable and good life for my family. Most of my family has served in either the Air Force or as Active Air National Guardsmen, so I knew what type of life the Air Force could provide.” Five of those years have been spent here with Team Yokota. “I love getting to help people with their careers. I love getting to share my experiences or stories and hear the different perspectives and stories of all the new Airmen that come through the FTAC classes,” he continues, “I really like how people in the community are always willing to help another person.”
MSgt Inwood’s dedication to the mission has certainly proven that our FSS really is the best serving the best.

APRIL 2023
Nikko Toshogu Shrine is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu (15421616), the emperor who founded the Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo, present-day Tokyo. Registered as a World Heritage site, Nikko Toshogu Shrine hosts the procession of a thousand warriors, where one thousand men dressed as samurai warriors reenact the transfer of Ieyasu’s grave from the distant Shizuoka Prefecture to Nikko, in accordance with his will.
The procession departs from Toshogu Shrine and is guided to a temporary resting place about one kilometer away, called Otabisho. It is led by three portable shrines that carry the spirits of the three Shoguns, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Minamoto Yoritomo. They are followed on horseback by Shinto priests and samurai warriors adorned in full armor. When the procession reaches the Otabisho, offerings are made and the priests perform traditional Shinto dances called Yaotome No Mai and Azuma Asobi No Mai, which mimic an angel’s dance. The grand procession then returns to Toshogu Shrine, guiding the spirits back to their resting place.
