A er o C lu b & F li g h t Trai n i n g C e n t er

Make Sure Laser-Light Displays Aren’t Aimed at the Sky With the holiday season upon us, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants to make sure your laser-light displays are aimed at your house and not towards the sky. A well-meaning attempt to spread holiday cheer has the potential to create a serious safety risk to pilots and their passengers flying overhead. Each year, the FAA receives reports from pilots distracted or temporarily blinded by residential laser-light displays. The extremely concentrated beams of laser lights reach much farther than you might realize. Many high-powered lasers can incapacitate pilots trying to fly safely to their destinations. Laser strikes against aircraft continue to increase each year. In 2018, the FAA received 6,754 reports of laser strikes against aircraft — a 250% increase since the FAA started tracking laser strikes in 2010. If FAA or base officials become aware of your laser-light display affecting pilots, they will ask you to adjust them or turn them off. If your laser-light display continues to affect pilots despite FAA warnings, you could face a civil penalty. Intentionally aiming a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety risk and violates federal law.

CLASS Spotlight Morning Yoga

Morning Yoga is more than just your typical class. It’s a place of sanctuary and non-judgement where anyone and everyone can take a break from the daily grind and stresses of life to simply breathe and slow down. You don’t have to be an athlete to participate. As instructor Alexis Miller likes to say, “All you need is a body and breath.” Morning Yoga is also a community as can be seen before class when teacher and students greet one another by name and reflect on the trials and triumphs of their week. Alexis purposefully and gently guides students throughout the entire practice, often offering modifications for beginners. She also reminds students they are welcome to take a break at any point during the practice. Classes always start with breathing exercises and gentle stretches before gradually leading up to a more challenging move or series of movements. Class winds down with calming yoga poses before concluding with savasana (a traditional resting pose in which practitioners simply lie on their mat in final relaxation). Leave class feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on whatever life throws your way. See page 28 for the Morning Yoga class schedule or call 225-6133 for more information.
